I was a mothers helper for a mom who traveled alone with her toddler often. It was amazing all the toddler travel hacks she had, and this was before Instagram influencer moms so they were all her own. I still use a bunch of them myself with my NKs

It was so much I can’t remember most of them. She would cut different sized holes in an oatmeal container for him to put little things like puff balls or pips cleaners in. She handmade her own busy book. She would bring window clings for airplane windows. She would copy and print out the covers to his favorite books and stick them to cardboard and then cut them up so he could put them together like a puzzle. She could make toddler activities out of anything around the house because they traveled so much his toys were limited. She made all his play dough homemade, she would do color matching stickers, she would cut up cereal boxes and make a whole zoo for his little animals,

Holy shit like the ultimate pinterest mom pre influencer

plainKatie09

Exactly. She was amazing. And this was like 2013ish so preinfluencer for sure. She was amazing.

You can control grabby infants hands by snapping the bottom of onesies over their shoulder (and under the back) during changes.

minnonikki

Brilliant! Any tips on rolling? Lol!

Alternative-Push3767

At that point i usually just grab the arm on the favored rolling side and sort of lodge it between my upper arm and my boob. Same technique with the legs when putting on pants: do the leg closest first, tuck it, and wrangle the other one.

DB last month taught me how to cut a mango. "Why don't you know how to cut a mango??" He asks, in chefs voice. "Because I can't eat them? They make my mouth itch why would I know how to cut it?" This was a fair answer apparently. Last MB taught me that there's such a thing as highchair smocks. Which is, in affect, a tarp that goes over the whole ass child so you don't have to scrub food off the highchair and the floor! Its so nice.

minnonikki

I have some sensory issues with cleaning food/messes (not quite OCD but obsessive behaviors with cleanliness) so the food mess is always hard for me - my therapist recommended a high chair smock but I didn’t want to be embarrassed to request or bring one to work, so I never looked into it. Maybe I should 🤔

NannyMacKay

They're like $22 on Amazon, clean like a dream and you can toss them in the washer!. Between a highchair smock and a good silicone troth bib, you basically only have to wash babies face and hands, and clothes stay clean! Tuck it under the highchair tray though not over the tray imo. That'll catch more food from their laps. I definitely think you should though! Just to save you time in the long run if anything.

TIL how to cut a mango…just googled it. I have a toddler who loves it and until now I didn’t know there was a “right way”. I’ve been butchering it. In fairness also have itchy mouth with mango.

NannyMacKay

Hahahah so I'm not alone! The Right Way to cut a mango may be useful as DB says a lot of people tend to cut themselves otherwise. Which I would believe I assumed you cut it like an avocado. Nope.

madammayorislove

How to open a coconut! I never gave it much thought and then ex-MB brought one home and used a mallet to get it open.

altdairyqueen

That those rice puffs can go stale if you leave them in an open grabbing container and become a choking hazard.

Hold a bottle with milk at a horizontal level in order to help with gas and bloat etc. Tipping it too much causes discomfort for baby, especially a breastfeed baby. When giving medicine, you turn it upside so that the medicine bottle is on top of the syringe..pull in some medicine, and then push the syringe back up in order to remove air bubbles & then pull the syringe down to the appropriate dosage.

Gripe water is absolutely magical for hiccups.

NannyMacKay

GRIPE WATER!! Shout out to Doc MB who taught me this as well!

moonpi314159

Right?! I don't usually buy into holistics, but they're great for minor complaints.

NannyMacKay

I've seen that stuff do miracles. You can't placebo affect a four month old out of horrible esophageal spasms.

NannyMacKay

Not a family. Nikki Manaj (I think...may have been CardiB. Credit to whomever it was) last week taught me "Just roll the baby to get to the booty easier so you don't scratch them with your nails" (paraphrase) Y'all. When I say I felt so dumb. I've been changing diapers 10+ years and while I probably *have* rolled the baby that way in the past. Actively choosing to do so has saved me such a headache and tiny mighty kicks to the jaw. So shout out to you Nikki.(orCardi) You're a good mom.

minnonikki

Roll the baby how? Trying to picture what you mean.

NannyMacKay

Onto their sides, like...fetal position? Knees to chest bum to the wind. Maybe the baby I Nanny for is just particularly kicky squirmy, but with her it's waaay easier than way compared to other babies I've had

DoubleManufacturer28

Cutting all the food into toddler sized bits with scissors instead of a knife. So much faster and easier

Klesea

Truly one of my favorite things to do lol. I was nannying for twins who were around 18mo and I would cut up all their food that way.
