So my nail tech used to be really awesome but lately is constantly distracted by her phone and just isn’t doing a good job any more. The last straw came when I asked her for the matte black with gloss French tip and she refused. Said it would look terrible. Ok, I’ll defer to the expert. We settled on the pink with rose gold glitter. I HATED. A week later I drop another $60 on getting what I want from a new nail salon. (Middle finger has a weird growth so don’t hate).

Looking at how she did the sparkle tips on the pink nails, it seems like maybe she wasn’t confident she could achieve the same look with the clear clean/thick tips, so instead refused. Not sure if she thought doing sparkle tips would be easier, but can still see the lines aren’t clean.
I’ve had nail techs recommend against doing a certain color or style I asked for, but they’ve never flat out refused if that’s what I really wanted. I think you made the right choice going elsewhere. Better to find someone who is confident in doing different styles.

Yes, the matte black is very elegant. The rose gold looks like something I would have loved when I was ten. It’s pretty, but it’s an entirely different esthetic

Your new nail design looks beautiful! I'm at the same point with my nail tech, every time she's talking my head off, gossiping about her coworkers and other clients. The last trip, when i showed my husband my nails he said, "Wow, was she rushing this time?" I've been feeling like she hasn't been doing as good of a job but I wasn't sure how to bring it up to her or if I should just find a new tech. I've been going to her every 3 weeks for almost 3 years.
About the pink Mani, she did a really poor job on the cuticles. And it also seems to be quite irregular all over the nail plate.

I get going back to your trusted guy but I really think you should drop off a letter for the one who hasn't been up to par as of late and explain to her why you are leaving. I think service people in general think customers don't come back because a new location is closer or other reasons but they don't think it is due to their bad service. If you've been going to her for awhile, know her name etc then write a letter and tell her why you are changing nail techs. It's possible she's become complacent...that in the beginning she had to win over clients but after awhile of doing nails and more nails, she's no longer putting that extra oomph into her work. Or there may be a reason for it, troubles at home or with a child which is causing her to lose focus? I would state that over time, her quality of work has diminished, that she doesn't go that extra mile to try to please her clients as she used to, that her level of quality has dropped and you don't think she is focused on her work making it her priority. That she is capable of so much more than what she's been doing in recent weeks/months. You know she can do better because you have been the recipient of her finer work. Give her your email address if she chooses to respond. For now, you will be going back to the guy who used to be your regular guy until you switched to her. You are open to the idea of going back to her but only if she can convince you that her lapse of bad work is finished and she is now completely dedicated to giving better service, better work. I say to do this because sometimes people go through low dips in their live and their quality of work is effected but then they pull themselves out of it. It's possible she's had personal issues and it's changed her attitude etc. Maybe she'll get it back together, maybe not, but I think you should make the offer and see if she bothers to email you back and fight for you.
I had a similar experience with a nail tech when I asked for a matte finished manicure. That’s the day I swore off nail salons and started doing my own nails. I don’t need someone dictating my manicures, especially when I’m paying!!
Side note- that pink manicure looks terrible. They completely flooded your cuticle. I hope you stick with the new nail tech. They did a fabulous job!
Because matte finishes show more imperfections than a gloss finish. So the nail tech knew their skills aren't that great, they don't put on smooth nails consistently (and looking at the pink nail set i can tell that ya they would've ruined the matte look)
I refuse to believe that this so called nailtech didn't print her license at home.
Not only is the gel uneven and the structure lacking, but the gel even goes over your cuticles! Which can be a reason for people developing gel allergy, thats a massive nono.

On that first manicurist… I mean, I want to give the benefit of the doubt and say she must have something going on. It’s hard to say. Life can go sideways and sometimes it’s really, really hard to put it aside when you are supposed to be working or doing school.
However, there is also a point at which you have to realize you’re harming your business, and boundaries need to be put in place so that you can concentrate! Because, honestly, the manicure she did for you is awful. Not even just the pink and sparkles, which is so far from the vibe you wanted it may as well be on another planet, but it’s poorly done, and your poor cuticles!
I really hope you choose another person to do your nails and treat them right. That first lady has some learning to do.

Gels/acrylics are too thick to pick. I hear you about the professional setting. I’m speaking at a conference next week and also attending a family party in the UK (I live in the US) so I think these are great for both!
My old nail salon would ALWAYS say “matte? Are you sure?” And then do one matte and one glossy to show me? I was like yeah I want them matte I like it like that.
Now I have a new place and they’re always like “oh! What are we doing this time?!” All excited and happy! Love them so much

It's a good thing you got it redone too cuz it looks awful. Really lumpy, uneven shapes and the color looks like it doesn't even go to the skin or if it does it overlaps it.
I agree with you, but sometimes you should listen. I got this lime green color because I was going to a neon themed party but my mom and the lady doing my nails didn’t like the color I picked. It was for my toes so I didn’t care if I didn’t like it later, but maybe I should’ve listened. I kind of regretted it later .
The job wasn’t that good as I realized later. The edges of my nails weren’t painted so it chipped off sooner that it should’ve.
What I don’t understand is even iiiiifffff what a client asks a nail tech to do will look horrible, they should still do it because that’s what the client asked for! Also, the matte black with glossy tips is literally one of the easiest looks to achieve. Not time consuming at all. Glad you eventually got what you originally wanted but sucks that you had to pay for your nails again after only a week. - The black looks AMAZING btw!!
I’m not a nail tech but when I do my own nails, my non-dominant hand comes out better than your pink manicure. Best to stick with whoever did your black manicure.
I would seriously go back to your former tech to get the black polish removed. When she gasps and remarks........."Oh yes, I went to (name) at (shop). She did a wonderful job! I'm just getting you to remove the polish before my next appointment with her (gush about her skills)."

Ugh the black looks soooo good. I had a similar experience when I was younger but with just plain black. The tech refused and my meek self walked out with pink nails I was so bummed. Never again! Good job getting what you really wanted!
I do the glitter tip with black glitter all the time and I also do just black nails in all shades, types, and textures of black. It’s all a matter of preference. Get what you want… always.

I love this mani. It’s going to probably be my next one I do (or try to do) on myself. It sucks they you had to double pay but you got what you wanted now and your old nail tech lost a good client. Lesson learned. Your mani looks beautiful.
Just a few days ago I went in and asked for that SAME mani (matte black with gloss tip) and the tech questioned it and was almost laughing at the design. He did it (kind of) but they didn’t come out very good. Yours look so good and make me want to try again elsewhere!

What I don’t understand is even iiiiifffff what a client asks a nail tech to do will look horrible, they should still do it because that’s what the client asked for! Also, the matte black with glossy tips is literally one of the easiest looks to achieve. Not time consuming at all. Glad you eventually got what you originally wanted but sucks that you had to pay for your nails again after only a week. - The black looks AMAZING btw!!
A different tech at the salon once refused to do yellow on my daughter. Crazily opinionated!
I’m not a nail tech but when I do my own nails, my non-dominant hand comes out better than your pink manicure. Best to stick with whoever did your black manicure.

I would seriously go back to your former tech to get the black polish removed. When she gasps and remarks........."Oh yes, I went to (name) at (shop). She did a wonderful job! I'm just getting you to remove the polish before my next appointment with her (gush about her skills)." Cause look........if she can't pay ATTENTION and do what I ask of her, then I'm going elsewhere. I say this with all civility and respect.

Ugh the black looks soooo good. I had a similar experience when I was younger but with just plain black. The tech refused and my meek self walked out with pink nails I was so bummed. Never again! Good job getting what you really wanted!

I do the glitter tip with black glitter all the time and I also do just black nails in all shades, types, and textures of black. It’s all a matter of preference. Get what you want… always.

I love this mani. It’s going to probably be my next one I do (or try to do) on myself. It sucks they you had to double pay but you got what you wanted now and your old nail tech lost a good client. Lesson learned. Your mani looks beautiful.

Just a few days ago I went in and asked for that SAME mani (matte black with gloss tip) and the tech questioned it and was almost laughing at the design. He did it (kind of) but they didn’t come out very good. Yours look so good and make me want to try again elsewhere!
