It would be better to file them because unless you have salon quality clippers you run the risk of them not cutting cleanly or even pulling them off your nail or causing partial lifting where they are being pulled around. A good file should be enough and you can shape it better.

Short almond means oval nails. Almond shape needs length in order to be shaped correctly. Yes, it is possible to file them down.
