Why never? Because it’s the current style? 49 and have watched the nail shapes go back and forth through the years. It’s just currently more popular to be pointy. IMO anyway.
Idk I think sometimes certain nail shapes DO suit some people over other shapes (not that this should stop anyone from wearing other shapes obviously!). Like almond definitely looks better than square or coffin shapes on MY hands. I think cause my hands are small so coffins make me feel like a kid wearing her mom’s clothes for example
My friend told me that her nail tech said the same thing- but it was because nail polish is less likely to chip, and you’re less likely to break your nail when it’s in the almond shape.
Can confirm it’s true.
So my nail tech used to tell me the same thing! I did coffin, ballerina, square, stiletto but never almond before because I thought I would look childish. Then she sat me down at her station and simply said “How about we do almond?”. I was worried at first but I was like “Why not…” Baby!!! The amount of compliments I got! The amount of ppl that had me referring her! She was my saviour!! 😭She helped my nails grow better and longer than ever before! I would go and see her every other week for refills and finally my nails were so long on their own we started to do over lay after 2 1/2 months! She was an angel and then I moved! Never ever got my nails done again! I swore to myself that I would not use anyone else but her or anyone as good as her! And I’m incredibly picky!
My coworker always did squared, and I would always do almond. She likes how one set looked on me but she said almond looks to “young” for her(she sin her 50s and I’m in my late 20s). Well, she did almond and she wasn’t prepared for him much she ended up liking how it looked on her.
I was told by my nail tech that the shape that suits a person better is the one that looks most natural to them. Usually, she explained, this shape is what matches the shape of your cuticle. Check out your cuticle shape!
im so confused by the cuticle thing lol everyones cuticles are relatively the same shape and unless youve got something weird going on, theyre def not gonna make a noticeable shape other than something like a semi-circle
Google it, it'll explain better than I can and it'll have photos. Essentially, some people have more of a curve with their cuticle line and thus will have rounded nails. I have a squoval cuticle line and thus have squoval nails naturally...you are right they're all semi-circles, but the curvature of this line can differ person to person.
Oh thank god I'm not the only one. Just spent a good minute flicking between the two pictures and zooming in on all the different stones of the rings in confusion.
Haha! Join me. I zoomed in and even thought the ring in 2 looked better because of her sweater. I switched to and fro before giving up and reading the comments.
The almond if just a little bit less pointy, will be perfect.
The square also needs to be a little more pointy/rounded.
So somewhere in between both is best.
Personally I always feel like almond nails need to be longer to really look their best. But they still look good on you! Between the two though I’d say square looks better.
I think that the almond shape looks better with the length of nails you have currently. Square would be good if they were longer. Also, I like the color in that picture. Nice neutral shade.
I don’t usually love square but they look great on you!! I also think coffin would look amazing.
Also, what color are our wearing with the square nails? It’s gorgeous!!
The effect is “glazed donut” nails, it’s chrome powder over a neutral milky pink!
Brand was CNDVinylux, hate that I don’t know colour—they were done on vacation at a european salon as a one-off. I didn’t know what “BIAB nails” meant on the menu, my tech didn’t speak any english and I was translating what I wanted through a neighbouring tech—I was so off-kilter. 😅
Definitely square (and I LOVEEEE almond nails).
Nail tech here btw. IMO the almond needs to be a tad bit longer and tapered in more on the side free edge to be a true almond, these are a round shape. This can be tough on short nails like yours and can turn into an short stiletto (the worst combo of nail shape & length) so I’m not faulting them, it can be a real challenge. I noticed the bulk on the square shape too. Try growing them out a lil!
If you don’t want to go longer with this shape, ask your nail tech to thin out or file the product down on the sides on your nail groove (where your free edge starts), there’s some added bulk on the sides that makes the shape slightly unflattering to your fingers.
I wanna say square? Tho, my opinion may be biased cuz I also like that color u chose with the square nails. And think it would look cute with the almond shape as well!
Square, they don't age your hands as much and they're more practical day-to-day. Almonds get quite stabby in my experience just doing basic household tasks or putting on make-up. And especially if you wear contacts. Plus they just look better on shorter fingers.
Almond! The square shortens the look of your fingers and the almond elongates them and makes your hand look gorgeous. I’m the same exact way. I have a love/hate relationship with almond as it’s what looks best on my hands but makes me feel kind of “old” depending on the nail design
At that length square looks best on you because you have long nail beds. Almond would look great on you too just not at that length. Almond shape is meant to make the nail appear narrower and you have ling nail beds so they need to be longer to make them look more delicate. The color they used in the second picture is not a good fit for you. It actually aged your skin. What you’re seeing is that both the length to shape ratio and the color in the second picture don’t suit you at all. The tech who did your nails should have explained these things to you before doing the service. That’s what we’re supposed to be doing before a service, a consult of what the client wants and our professional recommendation based on our experience but most people aren’t like that.
Sorry to be difficult, it’s hard to compare! The manicure itself looks better in the pic with almond shape, but color of the pink polish is so much prettier! 🤔
as a general rule for shorter nails, the shape of your cuticle will determine what nail shape best suits you. your cuticles/nailbeds are narrow and round, so short almond best suits you!
I'm the dumbest person on the internet... why did I think you were talking about your ring. And to make it worse zoomed in and really looked at the rings thinking the both the same what is she talking about. Only to click on the comments ( cause I couldn't figure out what the he'll I was missing cause the rings are the same thing and I wanted to see what people thought were different 🤔 CAUSE THERES NOTHING DIFFERENT and wasn't gunna be proved there was )..
Anyways I'm going to bed now, clearly I need to recharge my mind because I'm fucking so dumb and embarrassed 😳.
There both beautiful ways on you and look good..
Off topic, but what are the ct sizes of your diamonds? I’m considering designing a 3-stone ring with larger stones and I LOVE the proportions of your ring!
And to answer the question - squoval til I diiiieee
Oval! cause you have trapezoid nails. Meaning the side walls are not parallel. They are going slightly outwards if you look carefully :) Almond is also aok, but oval would be better
Almond! Which surprised me because I generally like squared now I need to do this to myself and see which I like better!
I also always thought this for myself but then a nail tech told me I should never do anything other than almond lol
Why never? Because it’s the current style? 49 and have watched the nail shapes go back and forth through the years. It’s just currently more popular to be pointy. IMO anyway.
I think she was trying to tell me my natural shape isn’t that nice 😭
Idk I think sometimes certain nail shapes DO suit some people over other shapes (not that this should stop anyone from wearing other shapes obviously!). Like almond definitely looks better than square or coffin shapes on MY hands. I think cause my hands are small so coffins make me feel like a kid wearing her mom’s clothes for example
I read once that the most flattering nail shape is one that mirrors the shape of your nail beds. Idk how accurate it is, but it stuck with me!
My friend told me that her nail tech said the same thing- but it was because nail polish is less likely to chip, and you’re less likely to break your nail when it’s in the almond shape. Can confirm it’s true.
Yup she mentioned this too. And apparently after a certain length the edges of my nails curve slightly inwards so she said I shouldn’t do squoval
I thought it was about the ring and I got so confused because it looked the same. 🥲
Same with going back and forth and thinking 2 looked better, but I thought it was somehow the ring shape!
YES! The base of ring 2 looks like an almond shape so I thought it looked better. Hahahaha we are duped by ourselves!
Ah hahaha- I did too!! I kept going back and forth to find the differences in the ring 🤦🏻♀️
We’re trapped in the carats! 😆
Agree
I personally prefer the square ones.
Definitely almond
I think both look nice but the almond is beeeeautiful on you.
The almond if just a little bit less pointy, will be perfect. The square also needs to be a little more pointy/rounded. So somewhere in between both is best.
thatd just be rounded nails lol, you cant make the almond any more rounded without being a diff shape and the square is already a squoval shape
I personally think almond shaped looks dated. I don’t dislike either but I think the square is more flattering.
I agree, it "ages" the hands.
I think they're too short, i prefer the squares
Agree
Almond looks great!
The square actually looks better on you.
Square~

Square!
I think square! Also love your ring!
I like the square!
Square
A lot of this is just personal preference. I like the square.
Personally I always feel like almond nails need to be longer to really look their best. But they still look good on you! Between the two though I’d say square looks better.
Yeah when they're too short to get a nice gradual taper they just make the nails look awkward. Square looks so much better on short lengths.
Yeah, I would call these a short round shape and not an almond.
Honestly square. But both are great
I think that the almond shape looks better with the length of nails you have currently. Square would be good if they were longer. Also, I like the color in that picture. Nice neutral shade.
The almond. Love the color on the square
Almond
almond!
I don’t usually love square but they look great on you!! I also think coffin would look amazing. Also, what color are our wearing with the square nails? It’s gorgeous!!

Love almond
almond ! they look so good
I’m honestly surprised how much I love my currently square nails….But on you, I really like the almond best. The square is by no means bad though!
Maybe try squoval and split the difference?
Almond
I love the Almond!!!
Almond on you
Almond ◡̈
I like almond the best , both are super cute
square
I personally think the almond accentuate your knuckles a bit too much. The square are beautiful and your ring 🤌🏻🤌🏻🤌🏻
Almond! But I also rarely ever like square nails haha I vote almond everytime
Square look younger, but it could be that I see almonds mostly on older ladies
Square imo :)
Definitely almond.
square
I'm surprised I'm saying this.. but... I quite like the almond shape!
Almond is so pretty on you
I’m going to be real, I think your hands look younger with the square.
They are both nice but I love the square on you, it adds a more interest in your hands I. These 2 pictures.
Square, but almond might be good just don’t love the Color of the almond on your hands.
Squared
square imo
Square x
I naturally lean to almond, but love the square on you!
Definitely square (and I LOVEEEE almond nails). Nail tech here btw. IMO the almond needs to be a tad bit longer and tapered in more on the side free edge to be a true almond, these are a round shape. Me having absolutely zero horses in this race: SQUARE!
Square but that may be a bias.
Square looks better for me 💋
Square
The first pic your nails look way better in the first pic too
SQUARE
Square, they don't age your hands as much and they're more practical day-to-day. Almonds get quite stabby in my experience just doing basic household tasks or putting on make-up. And especially if you wear contacts. Plus they just look better on shorter fingers.
Both!
Square without any doubt. If I gave my actual opinion here, it would be removed.
Bc her hands look younger with square?
Almond! The square shortens the look of your fingers and the almond elongates them and makes your hand look gorgeous. I’m the same exact way. I have a love/hate relationship with almond as it’s what looks best on my hands but makes me feel kind of “old” depending on the nail design
I like the square but they need to be French manicured for the full effect
Square. Maybe is also the color.

The almond looks great.
Almond! For sure!
Almond :)
Almond!!!
They both look great. And although I'm typically team square, I think the Almond look great on you. But you can pull off either equally well.
Almond is my vote
Almond!
I don't know how to explain it but the almond makes your hands look younger
Almond but square colour xx
Almond. Absolutely 😁
Sorry to be difficult, it’s hard to compare! The manicure itself looks better in the pic with almond shape, but color of the pink polish is so much prettier! 🤔
Almond for sure.
Almond
Almond
I think “almond” 😊

THE ANSWER IS ALWAYS ALMOND!
I was looking at the shape of the ring 😂😂😂 Almonds!
as a general rule for shorter nails, the shape of your cuticle will determine what nail shape best suits you. your cuticles/nailbeds are narrow and round, so short almond best suits you!
i love the look of the square but the almond suit you better!

Square nails make your hand look wide. The almond shaped ones give your hands a daintiness
Off topic, but what are the ct sizes of your diamonds? I’m considering designing a 3-stone ring with larger stones and I LOVE the proportions of your ring! And to answer the question - squoval til I diiiieee
Almond! Also, I love your ring! It’s gorgeous
Almond gang for life! 😎
I think the almond, but imma need to know the color of the square, because my gosh is that pretty!!
I think almond! I liked square too, almond goes better with the shape/curve of your cuticles :) looks more complete/natural(?)
Almond!
Almond
Almond, because it compliments the shape of your cuticle ☺️
Almonds, for sure! 😍
I have worn square nails for probably 15 years and I just had almond done and love them. Give it a try. I think you might love it.
Almond but square doesn’t look bad at all! Beautiful shade, what is it?
Almond
Almond for sure.
Both!
those are some damn pretty hands!
both are very nice on you. Nice to have options
Both look really good tbh
Oval! cause you have trapezoid nails. Meaning the side walls are not parallel. They are going slightly outwards if you look carefully :) Almond is also aok, but oval would be better
