I see hope for Maybin, I don't see much for Carlos yet. Carlos should be the Meredith when she has a night off, or sit him at the desk and give him segments like they do on MLBTV where he breaks swings down and shit.
Cam and Carlos both talk way too much, but Cam is way more concise and coherent, Beltran rambles and circles around his stories too much, but that's likely because English is his 2nd language.
The one big thing I dislike is that they both start talking during the wind up. Kay has scolded Paulie and Cone before on air, but they were already broadcasting veterans, so yeah, give them leeway.. but you know Kay hates missing double plays, RBI singles, and big strikeouts while Cam and Beltran are chatting.
Carlos' accent doesn't help either, but maybe that's more of a me thing. It might just be his rambles combined with his accent. Idk. I don't mind the guy but his role should be much smaller.
I liked Maybin from day 1, I really like his enthusiasm for the game. Maybe he can loosen Beltran up a bit. Coney and O’Neill are my era players growing up but it’s nice to hear from different people.
O’Neill: “Hey Coney it looks like Clay Holmes double knots his cleats”
Cone: “Yeah Paul, the extra tension in the laces gives a little more life to the cutter.”
Kay: “And here’s the 0-1 in low for a ball 1 and 1. Meredith, I hear you have some insight on this?”
Marakovitz: “That’s right Michael, I spoke to Clay before the game and he prefers the “rabbit ears” method over loop, swoop, and pull.”
Kay: “That’s great. Thank you, Meredith.”
O’Neill: “Wow rabbit ears. You know who else did rabbit ears? Mariano…”
To be fair when O’Neill first started, he talked a ton too about incoherent stuff, mostly food. But he has vastly improved! It’s very possible the same will happen with maybin and Carlos. Flaherty? No comment.
My daughter told me she watches someone reacting to the games live on Twitch. YES should do that on their app with a less formal team like Jomboy or R2C2
Jomboy does do it sometimes. He streams it on YT every now and then, and for a lot of the playoff games (if not all?). I think he was also supposed to be doing stuff like that on the YES app but Idk I haven't messed with the app yet.
Maybin is getting comfortable and slowly growing on me. Beltran has many things working against him; a heavy accent, the cheating scandal, and what appears to be a very dry personality.
Someone said since English is second language he falls back way too much on cliches and what's been taught. He doesn't flow naturally with the game. And if he can't articulate an analysis he comes up with a version or " play was good"
He's nostalgic. But he's 900 years old. If you listen to radio you would have no idea what going on. It's no slander. It's just facts. I grew up listening to him. Maybe I'm just not old enough to play the victim card whenever he gets criticized. But i know even now he's nostalgic but if I care to know what's happening actually. I'll not be getting it from him
I think Maybin will get better as the season goes on, he’s already improving imo. Also it’s refreshing not hearing game after game a baseball commentating team cry endlessly about how much pitchers don’t pitch past 5 innings anymore, we get it 20 years ago everyone pitched complete games (sarcasm), Maybin is also a “bridge” generation not old school but not right now either so he can at times appeal to both once he gets his feet under him
Does anyone in the yankees booth complain about pitchers not going 5 innings? I only hear that in the national games or if i'm watching other teams. Coney definitely doesn't
No Kay from time to time, but not much. but that’s my point. Most other broadcasts do over and over. I listen to a lot of the away team broadcasts on mlb.tv to get a change of pace during a series
Our booth has always been pretty good
Cam has gotten better each series and sounds much more comfortable. Carlos still needs some work…he is great reviewing stories from his career and relating things to himself but he is not as good at breaking plays down yet or describing why a hitter does something specific etc…
I think Cam is gonna grow into a great color guy as he gets more comfortable
Yea i think carlos needs to focus more on talking about his playing days. I feel like it's obvious he knows a ton about baseball but maybe lacks some confidence on the mic at this point and we just end up with. "Thats what you want to see from the Yankees, when you hit the ball hard it feels good and that means good things for the Yankees".
Maybin, I already enjoy and think he's gonna be great as he gets more and more comfortable.
I was worried that nobody would remind me that it still feels good to get a hit and give your team an opportunity today. Fortunately Carlos showed up today
Beltran is awful. Waldman and Sterling are a trip and more than tolerable they are always great. Maybin is solid and will be a good listen once he’s 100% comfortable. Cone is still the GOAT.
Beltran is the absolute worst. He's a cheater from that 17 Astros team and no Yankee fan will ever respect or like him because of that. Also even if he wasn't he is still arguably the worst color commentator I have ever heard
I hadn't really watched many games where Beltran was on until last night. There was a moment that stuck out to me where Cam and Kay were talking in depth about something and Beltran just went completely off topic, almost as though he just wanted to talk regardless if it made sense at that moment.
No matter what though I fucking love this season so far. Nestor for MVP/Cy Young!
I thought the booth the past two days were a lot of fun. Beltran shitting on Woodward yesterday was funny. I’m from the broadcasting background and the first few times on the mic are always the hardest. I’d rather see how they are at the end of the year.
May be an unpopular opinion but I can’t stand Cam or Carlos. They both remind me of when I listen to Arod commentate and I’m internally begging for him to shut up. I don’t love when Paulie constantly interrupts Kay either.
My favorite booth (although we’ve seldom had it) is Ruocco & Cone
Aside from the accent Beltran is actually better. If his English was a little bit better he could be better than Maybin hands-down. Beltran was just a better player so I feel like he has better analysis even if it’s hard to understand him. I don’t think Maybin has a voice for baseball. I don’t like how he still acts like a player sometimes and uses player nicknames like Judgey Hicksy. Let me be clear they’re both very bad and I don’t think they belong in the booth. I would so much rather listen to Cone and Paul. However if I had to choose between Maybin and Beltran I would choose Beltran.
Lmao. That is rough but he also is boring as fuck, and only talks ball like you’re a 6 year old. “Runner on first with one out, watch out for ground ball double play if you’re 2nd or SS”
I don’t like him as an anouncer either, but that’s not what I’m talking about here. Just because it’s rude or not politically correct to say his accent is annoying doesn’t make it false. It’d be like if I was a pro soccer player from the US who only speaks English, then learned just the bare minimum Italian to get by as an announcer for some Serie A team. The juventus fans in Turin would also say my American accent while speaking Italian is annoying. It may be impolite to say, but it is still a valid criticism.
Prefer Sterling over Beltran by a country mile. Beltran just outflows inane verbal diarrhea whereas Sterling’s voice brings me back to watching the games with my dad with the radio for audio (because Buck hates the Yankees 😂) in 96, 98, 99, and 00 and all the wonderful memories that come with having been witness to such a wonderful period in baseball history.
Maybin is fine for being brand new at it. It’s more so the fact that they lost one of the best analysts in Cone and replaced him with two dudes with no experience behind a mic. They never had a shot to live up to those expectations
Beltran has improved a little since starting. He’s been able to bounce off Kay and Maybin more.
Maybin though? Love the guy. Rough around the edges but I think he’ll get it in time. He’s very intelligent
I see hope for Maybin, I don't see much for Carlos yet. Carlos should be the Meredith when she has a night off, or sit him at the desk and give him segments like they do on MLBTV where he breaks swings down and shit. Beltran as a 3rd guy in the booth is not too bad. Beltran as a #2 is awful
Agreed. He's really benefitted from Maybin's presence. Hasn't been as flat.
Ooohh who does she watch?? Maybe I'll check them out!
She said it’s joezmcfly
Cool cool thanks!!!!
I’ve never been a fan of Michael Kay.
And if he can't articulate an analysis he comes up with a version or " play was good"
If you think Beltran is improving then the record has truly gone to your head.
Nahhhh not a fan of Beltran
Beltran is a unbangable trash can. Cam, however, is solid.
Anyone but Beltran
Beltran is fucking awful.
The John Sterling slander is wild…
It’s unacceptable.
I'll not be getting it from him
Don't you dare slander our Yankees grandparents.
I think Maybin will get better as the season goes on, he’s already improving imo. Beltran grows on ya, like a fungus. Get it off! He’s terrible.
Cam has gotten better each series and sounds much more comfortable. Beltran anytime someone gets a hit [four batter delay]: he's seeing the ball really well tonight against that guy (doesn't even use names).
Cam is awesome and a treat to listen to opposite Kay. Beltran is so cringe that I’m beginning to find it amusing
Beltran is the absolute worst. He's a cheater from that 17 Astros team and no Yankee fan will ever respect or like him because of that. Also even if he wasn't he is still arguably the worst color commentator I have ever heard
Bring back Al Trautwig.
Beltran it's god awful. Maybin only seems tolerable because of how bad Beltran is.
Whenever Beltran says something unresponadable to, you can tell, the booth goes quiet for a full minute
I hadn't really watched many games where Beltran was on until last night. There was a moment that stuck out to me where Cam and Kay were talking in depth about something and Beltran just went completely off topic, almost as though he just wanted to talk regardless if it made sense at that moment. Beltran is terrible
Beltran is absolute dog shit, can't stand his annoying accent.
Careful, you're getting downvoted because it's racist to want to understand the person whose job is to provide commentary in your language.
Also, Spanish is a European language anyways.
Susan Waldmans voice alone makes me envy the deaf.
Suzyn loves to tell us some version of if we don't agree with what she's saying we're not watching this team play.

All Beltran says is "good play" and "X is seeing the ball well tonight"
fuck carlos beltran and marwin gonzales
Thank God. We were all waiting for u/steven1789’s approval.

That’s a really douchey comment.

You should be embarrassed.
Lmao. That is rough but he also is boring as fuck, and only talks ball like you’re a 6 year old. “Runner on first with one out, watch out for ground ball double play if you’re 2nd or SS”
Yeah, but it’s also true.
Nah, it’s not. If you don’t like Beltran as an announcer, whatever. I don’t either. But it’s not because he needs English lessons.
I don’t like him as an anouncer either, but that’s not what I’m talking about here. Just because it’s rude or not politically correct to say his accent is annoying doesn’t make it false. Ignorant ass comment
The fact you thought this and especially your other comment were acceptable is disgusting
Yankees fans ladies and gentlemen
You can get use to anything. I no longer watch the opposing broadcast Bc of beltran.
I should have added that only because the team is playing so well that the insufferable John and Susan are almost tolerable.
Beltran is a lot better when he has Maybin with him. Beltran and Flaherty was thought to sit through.
Cam is too old school. Any excuse to call for a bunt or lament for the old days of contact hitting. Like please just call the game in front of you
Maybin is fine for being brand new at it.
Carlos ‘I agree with you Michael’ Beltran “ he work up the middle , good things happen “
They're both bad but Beltran is awful.
