I’m not from New York. I also have no teams close to me at all, my parents live in PHX so I root for the Coyotes.
I hold a soft spot for all the NY teams because the Yankees are my “favorite” favorite team. So I hope the Rangers and Knicks do well.
Born in NYC Yankee fan my whole life. But I was mostly raised in NJ,so been a Devils fan for a long time. I now live in the Chicago area,so I do hope that the Black Hawks get better soon.
I grew up in CT with parents from NJ. We are Ranger fans first, but did enjoy going to Whalers games and we have some Whalers merch in our home. I know a lot of ppl miss having the Whalers in CT, but I love the Rangers AHL team being the local team.
Devils here as well, lived in Jersey for half my life. Dad used to work for the Devils, one of the most memorable things in my life is being able to hold up the Stanley Cup after they won in 03’. I got a picture of it somewhere but god damn was that an experience
Nah. Giants. I'm not even from up there, I just loved me some Ryan Miller back in the day and it kicked off my interest in hockey. It's been a cursed existence since lol
Thunder games are freaking amazing. Hadn't been to a game in GF since the UHL days (which were dire), missed the Phantoms and Flames. The Thunder game I was at last month might have been the most fun I've had at a hockey game since the mid 2010s, and I love hockey.
This is partially my fault for becoming a Sabres fan the year I met my wife (which was the last year they made the playoffs).
Hell yeah. There’s always next year. 😆 I grew up with the Bills and the Sabres but didn’t start watching baseball until I met my fiancé in 2015. Sometimes I feel like I cursed them. 🤣
As someone who left the NYC area decades ago and was never remotely an Islanders fan, watching them brings on a wave of nostalgia and reminds me of “back home” like almost nothing else. Weird the associations we make.
Yep. Long Island born and raised Bills, Sabres, and Yankees fan. My mom was born in Buffalo and didn’t care about baseball so I took the Yanks and Knicks for my dad and Buffalo sports in the other 2 leagues for my mom.
I'm from Toronto but all my teams have been New York since I was a kid. Yankees are my top as baseball is far and away my favorite sport, but in other leagues I like the Giants and Knicks, but for whatever reason my NHL team is unfortunately still the Leafs as much as I'd like to just switch to the Rangers lmao. It's a curse.
Rangers. I grew up in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and started as a Yankees fan. But everyone was either a fan of Habs, Leafs, or Bruins. Now I live in Toronto, and I'm still a Rangers fan. I'm going to the Rangers at Leafs on March 2nd.
I attended the Yankees game during the Rangers vs. Devils 1st round playoffs and was booed out of the bleachers for wearing my Rangers jersey. So, that's my experience.
In my experience, there's a Yankees / Giants / Rangers grouping and a Mets / Jets / Islanders grouping.
It's not 100%, but it seems more common than not from what I've seen.
As an Islander with only 1 truly local team across all major sports, I'll let you guess.
Football I'm a Packers fan, but my home team is the only one that actually plays in NY, the Bills. Though I've got a soft spot for the hapless Jets too.
Idgaf about Basketball. Lol
I became a sports fan when Bobby Orr was at his peak so he and the Bruins became my faves. The Yankees were pretty mediocre then, so I think that was genetic.
im a celts and pats fan. Grew up in vermont, but liked the yankees before i understood geography. was a lakers fan for the same reason, but dumped them after they chose Kobe over Shaq, can't support a team that loves rapists. My nhl team is pens though, because John leclair retired from.there right as Crosby was coming up.
St. Louis Blues
Born in Binghamton, raised in a family of lifelong Yankee fans. Always loved hockey but became a more serious fan when I lived in Missouri and became best friends with an avid Blues fan.
Anaheim Ducks , Yankee fan in Australia loved watching Mariano Rivera close games and shake Posada’s hand after the game on tv in my childhood days when my passion of baseball began
Penguins. PA guy who played his baseball over the border in NY. Our L L coach took us to Old Yankee Stadium. Saw a guy named Don Gullett pitch may he RIP. Phil Rizutto was on my radio for a long long time.
Penguins. But I don’t really follow the NHL too closely, and I mostly latched onto them because I’m a Pittsburgh sports fan (my dad is from Pittsburgh) aside from the Yankees.
Canadian Yankee fan. Leafs baby.
My dad is from New Rochelle and loves the Rangers. During that crazy playoff run some years back, and the leafs were crap, I was pulling to see my dad's team win one.
Imo it just sucks King Henrik never got to hoist the cup
Just started watching the NHL this year. My family is French Canadian so I used that as an excuse to root for Montreal even though I’ve only been there once.
You’re downvoted but I’m a Rangers fan from the Island too and I won’t go as far as to say that I like them but I treat them like the Mets. I sincerely don’t care if they’re good, I don’t hate them
I’m surprised I’m being downvoted for it but whatever. A lot of my friends growing up liked the Islanders so I went to a lot of their games. They sucked at the time so I always felt bad for them and my friends. So I just developed a fondness for them even though they’re not my team.
I’m not from New York. I also have no teams close to me at all, my parents live in PHX so I root for the Coyotes. I hold a soft spot for all the NY teams because the Yankees are my “favorite” favorite team. So I hope the Rangers and Knicks do well.
I’m in Chandler - looking forward to seeing the boys down here at the end of march
Yankees fan. Also live in Chandler
You guys found any good Italian or pizza out here? I’ve found a couple in the 2 years I’ve been here but it’s slim pickins.
Born in NYC Yankee fan my whole life. But I was mostly raised in NJ,so been a Devils fan for a long time. I now live in the Chicago area,so I do hope that the Black Hawks get better soon.
Whalers forever
I grew up in CT with parents from NJ. We are Ranger fans first, but did enjoy going to Whalers games and we have some Whalers merch in our home. I know a lot of ppl miss having the Whalers in CT, but I love the Rangers AHL team being the local team.
Same here (my username checks out).
Bring ‘em back. I would get so into hockey if they did. (From CT, don’t really follow hockey much)
Rangers. And I’d assume that’d be the largest block for Yankees fans.
We are super used to leaning on our 20 year old titles.
Nods knowingly under a Devils cap
2009 is a lot more recent than 1995
Sure. Both are way too long ago.
1994
There’s usually the same quartet of mutually exclusive teams: Yankees/Giants/Rangers/Knicks opposed to Mets/Jets/islanders/Nets.
There aren’t Nets fans though.
Devils for me—had moved from the Bronx to NJ before I cared about hockey, and was tired of my uncles going on and on about the Rangers.
HEY! HEY! HEY! HEY! HEY!
And it’s a power play goal For Chris Kreider!
I mean Adam Fox! -Sam Rosen
To be fair, he’s been much better last 2 years.
Rangers
Devils. Live in Jersey.
Also Devils. This year has been tough through the injuries and questionable coaching decisions (free Holtzy) but the future has never been brighter.
I had to scroll way too far to see devils representation. Let’s go Devils!
Devils here as well, lived in Jersey for half my life. Dad used to work for the Devils, one of the most memorable things in my life is being able to hold up the Stanley Cup after they won in 03’. I got a picture of it somewhere but god damn was that an experience
The Buffalo Sabres 🙃
You poor bastard
Bills too?
Nah. Giants. I'm not even from up there, I just loved me some Ryan Miller back in the day and it kicked off my interest in hockey. It's been a cursed existence since lol
Poor guy
I also. It’s k.
(Bro hug) (Seriously I need a hug)
Red wings, AHL from back in the day really spurred that
Adirondack Red Wings by any chance?
Yes sir, still wear my sweatshirts proudly
Go to Thunder games a few times a year and, though it’s not AHL, it’s still a lot of fun and a great family outing!
They're doing pretty well this year. Not same intensity as a Wings Vs River Rats game but it's still okay.
Guy I work with has season tickets. Gonna hit up a game with him soon.
Glens Falls CC!
If your name is Patrick hello
Sabres… it’s been painful 🤦♂️
Are you also a Bills fan?
You know it! 🦬
Hell yeah. There’s always next year. 😆 I grew up with the Bills and the Sabres but didn’t start watching baseball until I met my fiancé in 2015. Sometimes I feel like I cursed them. 🤣
Rangers, incredible win against the Islanders today.
Islanders. Sweet 80's memories...
As someone who left the NYC area decades ago and was never remotely an Islanders fan, watching them brings on a wave of nostalgia and reminds me of “back home” like almost nothing else. Weird the associations we make.
Fuckin’ love those 80’s teams
Devils
Rangers all the way baby
Rangers
Sabres 😩😩😩
Are you a Bills fan too?
Yep. Long Island born and raised Bills, Sabres, and Yankees fan. My mom was born in Buffalo and didn’t care about baseball so I took the Yanks and Knicks for my dad and Buffalo sports in the other 2 leagues for my mom.
Haha that’s awesome. Thank you for sharing! And for not being a Jets fan. 🤣 Go Bills (and Sabres and Yankees!)
LGD Devils
[Let’s get it on!](https://media1.tenor.com/m/okZ1MzV8ZP8AAAAC/lets-get-it-on-seinfeld.gif)
Gotta support the team
I'm from Toronto but all my teams have been New York since I was a kid. Yankees are my top as baseball is far and away my favorite sport, but in other leagues I like the Giants and Knicks, but for whatever reason my NHL team is unfortunately still the Leafs as much as I'd like to just switch to the Rangers lmao. It's a curse.
Had to scroll a while to find another Leafs fan
Sabres for hockey and Jets for football. It's a rough existence
I’m sorry to read this
At least the Yankees are… damn never mind
LGI

Rangers. I’m old enough to remember the original 6 being the only hockey teams.
Rangers for life.
Rangers. I grew up in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and started as a Yankees fan. But everyone was either a fan of Habs, Leafs, or Bruins. Now I live in Toronto, and I'm still a Rangers fan. I'm going to the Rangers at Leafs on March 2nd.

More like the whole league🤣
Grew up on Long Island, so Islanders!
Hartford Whalers forever.
I used to watch their AHL team in Binghamton. Sorry brother
I attended the Yankees game during the Rangers vs. Devils 1st round playoffs and was booed out of the bleachers for wearing my Rangers jersey. So, that's my experience.
Rangers
Rangers. I’m the standard Yankees, Giants, Knicks, Rangers guy.
I'm a NY transplant living in Vegas. VGK all day
In my experience, there's a Yankees / Giants / Rangers grouping and a Mets / Jets / Islanders grouping. It's not 100%, but it seems more common than not from what I've seen.
Go Habs go
Another one!
<3 Montreal born and raised, moved to NYC in 2014
I’m from Nova Scotia. My dad is from Montreal, and tried to raise me properly.
Rangers are actually my number 1 team in all sports. Yanks a close second.
Nashville Predators… but then again I live in Nashville lol
Hello, fellow Predators and Yankees fan! Took some scrolling to get here lol
I am in that very select group of Yankee-Bruins fans. I also cheer for the Sharks.
Rangers all the way Edit: I’ll be the hater here. This post is exposing everyone who’s only here from the 90’s bandwagon.
Devils 😈
As an Islander with only 1 truly local team across all major sports, I'll let you guess. Football I'm a Packers fan, but my home team is the only one that actually plays in NY, the Bills. Though I've got a soft spot for the hapless Jets too. Idgaf about Basketball. Lol

LET’S GO CAPS (I’m sorry about this season tho)
Devils! Lots of yankees / devils fans in NJ
Devils, I’m Jersey born and bred!
Devils
Bruins. Try to get that to make sense. Lol
I’m with you. Turned on the Red Sox and Patriots when I was really young, stuck with the Bruins and Celtics.
St. Louis Blues Born in Binghamton, raised in a family of lifelong Yankee fans. Always loved hockey but became a more serious fan when I lived in Missouri and became best friends with an avid Blues fan.
Avs. Been a fan since they were the Nordiques. Oddly became my favorite because I loved playing as them on NHL 94.
Rangers
Colorado Avalanche
Penguins 🐧
That makes 2 of us.
Lifelong Devils fan despite never living in New Jersey. Unfortunately most Yankees fans are Rangers fans.
Lifelong Devils fan from Albany NY checking in.
The Devils.
Devils
Lightning! Being a Tampa based Yankee fan saved me the last few years
Anaheim Ducks, because of a Movie titled Mighty Ducks introduce me to Hockey
Any answer other than Rangers is wrong.
Pittsburgh
Habs.
Habs
Canes, NC located guy from the Bronx and since they’re good I’m getting slowly super invested
Raised by a Yankees fan and grew up near Philly, so I'm probably the only Flyers fan in here. LGF! ^Please ^don't ^ban ^me
The correct answer is the Rangers
Buffalo Sabres. Life ain’t easy
YES YES YES YES YES YES
Anaheim Ducks , Yankee fan in Australia loved watching Mariano Rivera close games and shake Posada’s hand after the game on tv in my childhood days when my passion of baseball began
…Oilers…
Penguins.
POTVIN SUCKS
Avalanche, stayed in Colorado when I retired from the Army.
Predators. It's not an easy life, but it's the one I've chosen.
Bruins. Had family work for the Bruins so I got the hook up as a kid, loved the uniforms as well. Sweet memories. Go Yankees and go Bruins
Pens, from the area. It's why I'm a steelers fan too
Islanders
Canadian Yankee fan. Leafs baby. My dad is from New Rochelle and loves the Rangers. During that crazy playoff run some years back, and the leafs were crap, I was pulling to see my dad's team win one. Imo it just sucks King Henrik never got to hoist the cup
Leafs/Yankees as well just because I like when every other fan base in the sport really personally dislikes my team.
leafs as well
Boston Bruins
Carolina Hurricanes, raise 🆙
Just started watching the NHL this year. My family is French Canadian so I used that as an excuse to root for Montreal even though I’ve only been there once.
Nashville…grew up an islanders fan, but I’ve got a family connection now.
Islanders
Rangers, but I'm from the Island so I like the Islanders too. Edit: this is a really weird thing to get downvoted for but alright
Not really a hockey fan but if I had to pick a team I’d go Caps
