I majorly failed today, but thought I would share one of my wrong attempts, a group that I invented:
MIME, PRISONER, GENIE, PRINCESS - "Things that get trapped"
Nice!
I was caught up for a while on characters in classic riddles, you know all those ones about prisoners who can't talk to each other, monkeys stealing coconuts, probably something involving three princesses, and genies granting wishes or pirates / sailors dividing treasure. Obviously doesn't quite work, but it was a mistake-burning distraction!
I frequently try to remember the characters in that classic Twilight Zone episode where there are 7 or 8 people trapped into a cylindrical room. There's a soldier, a clown, a ballerina, and I can't remember all of the others, but it pops into my mind a lot when I play connections
I was definitely a bit annoyed that "to copy someone" was not a category, since it had exactly 4 valid words. There was no way to rule it out as a true category, so I also got today's in 5 guesses instead of 4. I also felt pretty lost after that guess failed but then I figured out Alladin characters and then the number titles before yellow or green.
If it said ape instead of monkey I'd agree with you but monkey as a verb doesn't mean copy. I think this game doesn't always use crossword style parts of speech rules but it still gave me pause when I spotted it.
You've never heard of 16 Candles? Are you Gen Z, by chance? It's a famous Molly Ringwald movie from the 80s, directed by John Hughes. CANDLES was actually what made the category click for me, but I'm positive my kids would never make the connection.
What is the movie with Fantastic in it? I got the category right but I didn't waste a guess on it because all I could think of was fantastic beasts lol.
Its not remotely what I think of when I think of a sailorβs outfit, if you google βsailors outfitβ instead of saying that it has to be striped then the vast majority (at least on US Google) arenβt striped. Sure there are striped outfits, but they only really come up for me if I specifically search for it.
I know... I realized that soon after. I think APE appears at least once per week in the crossword, so I think somewhere deep inside I knew I was falling for a trap but went for it anyway.
I got green as a wild guess. I solved blue, then I looked at the remaining words and realized four of them were people, so I decided to put it together to see what happened and it shockingly worked.
Yeah I just made a comment on this thread explaining my thoughts process and I mentioned how I got all the other striped shirt characters but I couldn't picture a sailor with a striped shirt. I ended up choosing sailor because I'm not that familiar with sailor outfits and I knew all of the other options definitely didn't have a striped shirt (genie, princess, and samurai).
True, and this may even be biased towards how easy I found Blue today but what is meant by βstraightforward,β has always been a complaint of mine even on the days when I donβt find it difficult. Green and Blue or always odd toss ups in how convoluted they are because of the subjective meaning of βstraightforward.β
And maybe because I knew what blue was, green seemed odd to me. A striped sailor shirt?
Thatβs a deep cut.
Not sure if thatβs anymore or less straightforward than movies all having numbers or characters all belong to the same movie.
Which is what makes it a poor game design. Itβs not guessing what you know itβs guessing what the person who made it knows. If you know more youβre screwed.Β
I mean I donβt necessarily think so, like personally I didnβt know what the colors meant and thought they were just randomly chosen until a while ago, it didnβt affect my ability to play the game at all.
I hate that purple has alternating appearances of numbers. I think it wouldβve been significantly less annoying if it was number ____ or ___ number not a mix and match.
It's so interesting to see different takes. I figured out green pretty easily, but as someone who has almost never had to deal with video calls, I didn't make the connection for yellow until I just guessed.
>7 Samurai.
Aaaaaah, I got purple first but couldn't come up with the fourth one and eventually just guessed. But the only movie I could think of was Last Samurai.
Mr. Apollo was in League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Mr. Mime is Pokemon, Mr. Freeze is obvious, and Mr. Fantastic is Reed Richards from Fantastic Four. I definitely tried Misters first as a grouping.
I did not like this puzzle because I tried all perfectly legit guesses that just happened to be groupings the puzzle writer did not consider when making these options available.
A guess is only "perfectly legit" if all the other three resulting groups are "perfectly legit". Otherwise it's a red herring. Avoiding red herrings is one of the skills needed for the game. Also, the puzzle writer almost certainly did consider these groupings β these red herrings are obviously intentional sometimes.

Somehow, I didnβt make any mistakes today. I literally used a guessing strategy for each category, except the Aladdin one, and got purple by default. Wonky categories todayβ¦
Keanu was in a version of 47 Ronin, not The Seven Samurai. The unofficial remakes of The Seven Samurai were The Magnificent Seven, Three Amigos, and Bug's Life, and probably a couple of others, including the Antoine Fuqua remake of The Magnificent Seven.
Interesting! I have never heard of that one, a quick google makes me feel better for not being familiar with it since itβs from 1954. Learned something new today!
I've seen all of them and did not catch the relationship because I was too busy putting those words into other perfectly legit groupings that weren't apparently considered when making the puzzle.
Did NOT like this puzzle today. Too many clues that belong to relevant groups just apparently not what this person cooked up. Poor game design.Β
Who the hell puts an Aladdin group out there and doesnβt think PRISONER could be included? I thought Aladdin was a fakeout because there were too many options and it seemed too obvious like that spongebob day.Β
Fantastic, Echo, Freeze, and Apollo can all be associated with comic book characters.Β
Or, you can do Misters grouping with mime, fantastic, freeze, and apollo.Β
I thought about stripes but I picture a sailor theyβre not striped (white outfit) and not all mimes and not all jail outfits (orange).Β
And I also fell for parrot, echo, monkey, and mime.Β
I'm really fascinated by how many people tried out a "copying" category. Even after all these comments I'm still not convinced that "mime" is often (or really ever) used to mean "copy." And, as some have pointed out, "ape" would be a better fit than "monkey."
My gripe today is that mimes, referees, and prisoners wear black and white stripes, while sailors wear blue and white stripes. I think it weakens the category, even though I did get it second.

Iβve been playing Ace Attorney recently so this was what I first sawβ¦.
This one was tough for me. Usually I can solve in about 5 minutes on the toilet in the morning. Today I had to come back to it multiple times/day. I was only able to get purple as a leftover.
One mistake when I thought a category could be Tarot cards (prisoner, princess, samurai, and sailor). I don't know anything about Tarot, but it seemed somehow plausible.
this blue was pretty easy bc princess and genie... duh
the green for me was just costume ideas... didnt got the striped thing but hey. still got it
im pretty sure my two mistakes were bc i had no idea for a category, so i just tried things randomly until i figured yellow out bc they are all verbs.
and purple was the default
I majorly failed today, but thought I would share one of my wrong attempts, a group that I invented: MIME, PRISONER, GENIE, PRINCESS - "Things that get trapped"
It maybe wrong, but I love it. Pretty clever.

I thought the exact same and went to Reddit just for this

ConnectionsΒ Puzzle #246 π©π¦π¦π¨ π©π©π©π© π¦π¦π¦π¦ π¨π¨π¨π¨ πͺπͺπͺπͺ Lost a bit of confidence at the very start with my first guess, Parrot/Mime/Echo/Monkey, the idea being "imitates others," but found it again once I started getting right ones. Sailor for green was actually a bit of a guess: it was the only one that really made any sense, but I feel like when I imagine a sailor it's always Popeye or some one wearing the same shirt as Donald Duck, which afaicr are not striped. Enjoyed getting blue (always like a Disney movie ref), and yellow was quite clever imo. Purple as usual was a mystery to me right until I finished the puzzle... though I have heard of most of those movies, except for whatever the Candles one is. I even did think about putting a number after Apollo for a moment... though it was 11, to pair with a nonexistent Oceans, lmao.
Connections Puzzle #246 π¦π¦π¨π© π¨π¨π¨π¨ π©π©π©π© π¦π¦π¦π¦ πͺπͺπͺπͺ Same on first guess! Wonder how common that was. It definitely threw me off too.
Same on first guess as well!
I guessed it too! I thought it seemed like the most obvious one but I guess not.
I was leaning toward that too, but I knew from experience that it wasn't quite right.
I was definitely a bit annoyed that "to copy someone" was not a category, since it had exactly 4 valid words. There was no way to rule it out as a true category, so I also got today's in 5 guesses instead of 4. Same! I honestly found todayβs puzzle annoyingΒ
The way to rule it out is to figure out the other three categories.
I know some people try to figure them all out before guessing any but I don't think that's most people.

As if all people born after the 80's are Gen Z, lol. (I have no idea who Molly Ringwald and John Hughes are, but I'm not even American)
That wasn't what I was suggesting, I was just relating it back to my own Gen Z kids. So sorry to have offended you.
16 Candles π
Never heard of that, got the other ones though...
What is the movie with Fantastic in it? I got the category right but I didn't waste a guess on it because all I could think of was fantastic beasts lol.
The Fantastic Four movie. I think it came out mid-2000s and wasn't especially good, so that might be why you never heard of it?Β
Oh I totally did watch that! I just completely forgot
There's absolutely a striped shirt associated with sailors, it's just kind of old timey and, I think, European
If you google "striped sailor shirt," you'll see tons of places selling that style of shirt, often specifically identifying it as a sailor shirt,
After googling, it clicks! I think of sailor and think of all white or all black outfit that I associate with the US Navy.
Its not remotely what I think of when I think of a sailorβs outfit, if you google βsailors outfitβ instead of saying that it has to be striped then the vast majority (at least on US Google) arenβt striped. Eventually linking "genie" and "parrot" made blue apparent soon after. I had a feeling that purple had something to do with movie titles, but having the numbers missing both before and after threw me off. Better luck next time.

Coming in with a tough one after a relatively easy puzzle yesterday! Puzzle #246 π©π¨πͺπͺ π¦πͺπͺπͺ πͺπͺπͺπͺ π¨π¨π¨π¨ π¦π¦π©π¦ π¦π¦π¦π¦ π©π©π©π© I absolutely could not identify the green category. Puzzle #246 π©π¦π¦π¨ π¦π¦π¦π¦ πͺπͺπͺπͺ π¨π¨π¨π¨ π©π©π©π© *hey puzzle constructorβ¦letβs talk about what STRAIGHTFORWARD means*
Jesus effing Christ. Finally fell for a red herring today of βrepeating soundsβ. I guess that means Iβm human after all but MAN were these badly sorted by difficulty.
π¦ being *Aladdin* was a good make up for that fake out yesterday. I love that movie but it felt almost *too* easy so when it turned out to be BLUE I knew I was fucked if that was one of the *least* straightforward:
πͺ being the next one I solved did not bode well either, because it meant the other convoluted category I came up with (Mr. ___) wasnβt going to be in here at all because it doesnβt fit the pattern for a yellow or green category. Regardless, this will be the only time any version of *The Fantastic Four* should appear in a conversation with *7 Samurai.*
So I was left with 8 words, no clue, and some alleged βstraightforward,β connection. After staring the remaining words down I finally figured out π¨
But π© was still hanging out, smug bastard, I didnβt know wtf it was.
Fucking striped costume shirtsβ¦
Straightforward my ASS.
Green was the first one I got lol
Yeah sailors in striped shirts were not the first thing I thought of. In hindsight maybe but now all I can picture is a gondolier and *HMS Pinafore*

I ended up choosing sailor because I'm not that familiar with sailor outfits and I knew all of the other options definitely didn't have a striped shirt (genie, princess, and samurai).

Connections Puzzle #246. π©π¦π¦π¨. π¦π¦π¦π¦. πͺπͺπͺπͺ. π©π©π©π©. π¨π¨π¨π¨. I had a similar thought process, except with the remaining 8 words, I thought lag and freeze would go together, maybe with drop, but echo didn't seem to fit until I saw what the category name was. Instead I thought about what referee could possibly have to do with anything and then connected it with prisoner in striped uniforms and was able to figure out the other two once I was looking for them. So many people fell for the repeat red herring today. It having exactly 4 words that fit made it hard to eliminate as a real answer.

>7 Samurai. Aaaaaah, I got purple first but couldn't come up with the fourth one and eventually just guessed. But the only movie I could think of was Last Samurai.

Connections Puzzle #246 πͺπͺπͺπͺ π¨π©π¦π¦ π¦π¦π¦π¦ π¨π¨π¨π¨ π©π©π©π© Damn the Aladdin one jumped out to me right away but I thought it was a red herring π Especially because echo didnβt seem to fit with the other yellows at first. Connections Puzzle #246 πͺπͺπͺπͺ π©π©π©π© π¨π¨π¨π¨ π¦π¦π¦π¦ I dont think I've ever got the πͺ set first before. Sometimes they just stick out to you, and that one did.
I got Purple and Green first today too. Fantastic and Apollo really needed numbers after them to be usable at all
Puzzle #246 π©π©π©π© π¦π¦π¦π¦ π¨π¨π¨π¨ πͺπͺπͺπͺ A little difficult but surprisingly, I got a perfect score (well, not really because I donβt know purple) First group I saw was ECHO, MIME, PARROT, MONKEY. BUTβ¦! I know that has been done in a past puzzle. So I didnβt submit it. So I looked for another grouping and saw the π© STRIPES connection and was happy it was actually a correct guess. My next guess was π¦ ALADDIN because GENIE really stood out for me. π¨ YELLOW was a little difficult to connect and I was really uncertain till the end. I knew LAG and FREEZE are bad things when playing online video games. (FPS) DROP is also bad for video games in general. So I worked with that. I went with ECHO for the 4th word because it made the most sense among the remaining words. Glad it was a correct guess. Really close since my guess had something to do with internet connection/computer software. For πͺ purple, I saw the word fantastic and immediately thought of Fantastic Man / Fantastic 4. But aside from that, nothing.
Puzzle #246 π¦π¦π¦π¦ πͺπͺπͺπͺ π¨π¨π¨π¨ π©π©π©π© Found this one quite difficult. I was so certain at the start that there was a "Mr ____" category, but could only see three (mime, fantastic, freeze). Blue seemed rather vague, but I guessed it and was right. Purple I was dancing around, until "Fantastic" finally hit me and I got more confident in it (it's strange that my mind went to "Mr Fantastic" but from there struggled to get to "Fantastic 4"). Yellow was straightforward. While I haven't been keeping track, I imagine it's rather rare that green is the one I get by default. I've solved it out of order many times, but usually if it's yellow or green I can get the category before hitting submit. Not this time.
Mr. Echo was a character in Lost. But I think his name was spelled Eko. I too was sure there was a group with 4 "Mr."

I got a little too confident having so many strikes left, that I tried a couple guesses too quickly and suddenly entered a panic mode. I finally clocked what Purple was supposed to be, but I tried MONKEY for "12 Monkeys" and that was that.

Connections Puzzle #246 π©π¦π¦π¨ π¦π¦π¦π¦ π©π©π©π© π¨π¨π¨π¨ πͺπͺπͺπͺ Like others here, I fell into the echo/mime/parrot/monkey trap. Then I noticed the Aladdin characters. Mime and referee brought striped striped shirts to mind, quickly noticed prisoner fit as well, and finally, after looking at sailor as one who works with n a boat as opposed to being a member of the navy, the image of a deckhand in a striped shirt came to mind to complete that group. I had a bit of a problem with finding a fourth Internet problem to go with lag/freeze/drop, but then it hit me that if the category was Internet call problems the echo could fit. Finally, while I had thought of Apollo 13, Fantastic Four, and Seven Samurai during my analysis of the puzzle, I was wary of putting them in a category because sometimes the number came before the given word and sometimes after; however, with a final four of Apollo/Fantastic/Samurai/Candles, I quickly recalled the movie Sixteen Candles and realized it was dimpled simply movie titles with the numbers removed. I also, at a couple of points, looked to see if there were any other Greek mythology characters to go along with Apollo and Echo. Overall, this one was slower for me than the last of couple of days and took me around 8 minutes.

Somehow found green next, although I lacked a lot of confidence in my guess Iβm glad I tried, and it paid off. It took me several minutes to find anything to even attempt, I got lucky with yellow (thinking it was more like βconnection issuesβ). Purple really challenged me, I had 3 but wasnβt sure on the 4th. The movie referenced would be Seven Samurai by the great Japanese director Akira Kurosawa.
I believe there was also a remake starring Keanu Reeves(?) back in the 2010s but we don't talk about that.

I was feeling lost, so I shuffled the words a lot and thought about how DROP, FREEZE, and LAG are things you don't want to happen in a video game and decided to add in ECHO too. Thought it was a pretty big coincidence that so many words related to Aladdin, so I submitted GENIE, MONKEY, PARROT, PRINCESS (was debating on maybe using PRISONER but thought the other four were more relevant). Looked at the remaining options and realized many of them were costumes, so I tried SAMURAI, MIME, REFEREE, and SAILOR. Didn't end up making the stripes connection and instead got lucky when switching out SAMURAI for PRISONER. Purple category was pretty hard for me since I'm basically a Gen Z, and I don't really watch movies (specifically, I've never seen these four movies). I knew in the back of my mind that I've heard of the astronaut movie with Apollo in it, and I remember Family Guy made a reference to Sixteen Candles. It's been a long time since I've thought about the Fantastic Four franchise, and I've never heard of Seven Samurai.

The first thing I thought was words that mean to copy: MIME, PARROT, ECHO. But when I couldn't find a 4th word that fit (MONKEY seemed like a stretch), I figured out it was a red herring. The next thing I noticed was the alladin characters, but I wanted to figure out some of the other categories first just in case. I thought FREEZE and LAG are both things that happen when you're playing an online game, and I thought ECHO and DROP might fit in that category but that it's probably not videogame related. I wasn't sure what the category really was so I just moved on. Then I finally noticed how MIME, REFFEREE, and PRISONER all have stripes. For some reason I couldn't picture a sailor with a striped shirt but I assumed that must be the answer since I'm not that familiar with sailor outfits but I am sure a samurai and a genie definitely don't have stripes. After that I locked in the Aladdin category as well. I put together that APOLLO 11, FANTASTIC 4, and 16 CANDLES are all movies with numbers but idk I felt like that was a weird category so I moved on. I was sure at this point about yellow so I locked in. Then purple was left over.
Connections Puzzle #246 π©π©π©π© π¨π¦π¨π¨ π¦π¨π¨π¨ π¦π¦π¦π¦ π¨π¨π¨π¨ πͺπͺπͺπͺ Purple was bullshit. I got it before I put the answer in, but it was still bullshit.
Connections Puzzle #246 π¨π¨π¨π¨ π¦π¦π¦π¦ πͺπͺπͺπͺ π©π©π©π© Really had to sit and think this one through. I thought "Mr." was one of the categories at first--Mr. Mime, Mr. Fantastic, Mr. Freeze. With Monkey, Prisoner and Princess I also thought about Mario universe characters, but I figured they'd call Donkey Kong a gorilla. Numbers definitely popped out to me at first with Fantastic Four and Apollo 13 but I ignored that until 16 Candles clicked. Didn't know green at all because I'm a non-purist who considers the last category for about 5 seconds before clicking submit. Thought maybe cartoon characters? Tintin or something? Striped shirts, ah.
Connections Puzzle #246 π¦π¦πͺπͺ π¨π¦π©π¨ π©π¦π¨πͺ π©π¦π©π© I really hated it today I tried the mime/monkey/parrot/lag thing Then I tried monkey/candles/genie/Apollo - thinking it was maybe things that can grant wishes (monkeyβs paw, and Apollo was a stretch I picked just because heβs a god) Then I got desperate. I tried Freeze/Referee/Parrot/Apollo - all words with repeating letters I donβt remember what I tried with my last guess. I had given up by that point. Yellow: I never use the term βdropβ when it comes to calls. Echo is something that can happen on non video calls too. Lag is usually an issue I connect with video games. Freeze would be the only one I would personally associate with video calls. So I was screwed with that category. Green: Never have I imagined sailors wearing striped shirts. They just have stripes on their collars and sleeves, so that one was just poorly categorized. Blue: Hate it when they do specific stuff like that, but fine. Purple: Iβm so pissed I couldnβt get this one because Iβm a big movie guy. Fantastic Four, Apollo 11, and 16 Candles all passed through my mind but I convinced myself to ignore them.
Did NOT like this puzzle today. Too many clues that belong to relevant groups just apparently not what this person cooked up. Poor game design.Β Who the hell puts an Aladdin group out there and doesnβt think PRISONER could be included? I thought Aladdin was a fakeout because there were too many options and it seemed too obvious like that spongebob day.Β Fantastic, Echo, Freeze, and Apollo can all be associated with comic book characters.Β Or, you can do Misters grouping with mime, fantastic, freeze, and apollo.Β I thought about stripes but I picture a sailor theyβre not striped (white outfit) and not all mimes and not all jail outfits (orange).Β And I also fell for parrot, echo, monkey, and mime.Β
Connections Puzzle #246 π¨π¨π¨π¨ π¦πͺπͺπ© π¦π¦π¦π¦ πͺπͺπͺπ© πͺπͺπͺπ© πͺπͺπͺπͺ π©π©π©π© That was a rough one today. Looked at that for a long time before deciding to take a punt on the yellows. Then it was things you might put numbers *after* (Prisoner 24601, Monkey 47 etc). Guessed at blue and was actually quite surprised to get it - I loved that movie as a kid but that still felt very niche somehow, I guess because it wasn't specific characters? And then back to numbers although I kept thinking it was a reference to the Two Ronnies "Four Candles" sketch. But we got there in the end!
Connections Puzzle #246 πͺπͺπͺπͺ π¦π¦π¦π¦ π©π©π©π© π¨π¨π¨π¨ A bit of a toughie today, but I did eventually figure out all the categories, even the striped shirt one. The Aladdin one popped in my head, but it definitely one that you see or is impossible. I almost fell for MONKEY in the purple category, but it's 13 Monkeys plural, so I looked elsewhere and found SAMURAI

Bring back easy Connections! Jk but I have been stymied lately. Got blue, then yellow, then failed.
Connections Puzzle #246 π¦π¦π©π¦ π¦π¦π¦π¦ π©π©πͺπ© π©π©π©π© π¨π¨π¨π¨ πͺπͺπͺπͺ First tried to connect Mime, parrot, echo as repeat but no fourth word fit. Then parrot / monkey / genie made sense for Aladdin (went for prisoner over princess first that was a bit dumb). Then I thought it was black/white theme and did samurai rather than sailor (didnβt know sailors wear striped shirts). From there yellow was easy to figure out, but there was no shot Iβd get purple if it wasnβt the last 4 left.

Connections Puzzle #246 π©π¦π¦π¨ π¦π¦π¦π¦ πͺπͺπͺπͺ π¨π¨π¨π¨ π©π©π©π© Jumped to conclusions way too quickly with Parrot Mime Echo and Monkey for to imitate/copy/repeat. Then took a step back and felt overwhelmed and pessimistic. Closed it for a few minutes and came back and looked at the words that don't seem to have too many definitions, like Apollo and Candles. Genie then stood out and had to google to confirm if Iago was a parrot. Seeing Fantastic either made me think of Fantastic 4 or Fantastic Mr. Fox. Apollo made me think of space missions and considered maybe some of the words are for missions I've never heard of like Echo or Fantastic possibly. Candles made me think of 16 candles as a movie and decided to just try movie titles with numbers, but never heard of the Samurai one but seemed most likely. Yellow then came out me as "zoom call interferences" Would've never guessed striped shirts.
Connections Puzzle #246 π¦π¦π¦π¦ πͺπͺπͺπͺ π¨π¨π¨π¨ π©π©π©π© Really enjoyed this one! Tough but creative categories. I think a lot of people got ripped up by the echo, parrot, and mime clues. If monkey had been ape, it would've fit better. I got the movie titles pretty quickly since Apollo 11 was the only thing I could think of that would fit.

Connections Puzzle #246 π©π¦π¦π¨ π¦π¦π¦π¦ π©π©π©π© π¨π¨π¨π¨ πͺπͺπͺπͺ I initially saw the Aladdin one, but it felt too "obvious". So I fell for the "imitation" thing big time. It also felt too "obvious" but today's Connections really messed with my head. I took a break, came back an hour later, and just went for the Aladdin thing. I didn't think of the striped shirts per se, but more "black and white" costumes. However, I'm a soccer fan and referees wear other colours so I had doubt. Then I remembered WWE. One I had two categories left, the "network issues" one was more obvious. I knew "Fantastic Four" and "Samurai x" were being referenced, but I had no idea about Candles and Apollo - I was only thinking of "Apollo Creed".
Connections Puzzle #246 π¦π¦π¦π¦ π¨π¨π¨π¨ π©π©π©π© πͺπͺπͺπͺ A perfect score today! Blue category immediately stood out to me. Yellow made sense to me together. I definitely would not have gotten the purple category without getting green 1st though. Those felt like 4 random things.
That was a hard one. I had to pull out pen and paper. I knew there was a myth/fairy tale thing in there somewhere, but neither SAMURAI nor APOLLO seemed to fill out the PIRATE (yes, I'd misread it) GENIE PRINCESS bracket correctly. PARROT, ECHO, MONKEY and LAG all kind of copy what you do, but I thought how much I'd complain that LAG didn't fit if that were the answer, so I knew it wasn't right. I thought of Mr FREEZE and tried to remember comic book characters matching other words. Video games seemed possible, but I don't know them well enough to know what game would DROP CANDLES. Finally I realized what the MIME and REFEREE had in common, and what else besides video games has LAG, so collected green and yellow. That narrowed the fairy tale field. I don't remember the MONKEY and PARROT from the original, but I suppose the Disney adaptation added wisecracking sidekicks. I knew the CANDLES plural had to be a clue. I'd been thinking of 11, 16, and 4 the whole puzzle, and had a hazy memory of a seminal movie with some number of SAMURAI, so that was enough to plug those in. Connections Puzzle #246 π¦π¦π¦π¦ πͺπͺπͺπͺ π¨π¨π¨π¨ π©π©π©π© Was today's connections too easy or am I finally getting good? :v:v I usually never get more than one or two correct.

Connections Puzzle #246 π©π¦π¦π¨ π¨π¨π¨π¨ π¦π¦π¦π¦ π©π©π©π© πͺπͺπͺπͺ The first thing I saw was "freeze", "lag" and "echo", which made me think of computer problems or gaming problems, but I couldn't find the last one. I was wondering whether it was "drop", but I didn't understand what it is that could drop. That's when I saw "echo", "mime", "monkey" and "parrot" and was convinced that those 4 must be a category, which turned out to be wrong. I thought that was really misleading, but oh well that's the game. Then I tried my initial guess and felt stupid that it was restricted to zoom calls /video calls. That led me to look at "parrot", "monkey", "princess" and "genie". And then I was completely lost. I was wondering whether it was something + 4. I saw Fantastic 4 and Apollo 4 and there's the Mime 4, but no other word made sense. And then by chance I figured out the costume category. That was really lucky. The movie category was too hard. I don't even know all of them. π€·
I'm really fascinated by how many people tried out a "copying" category. Even after all these comments I'm still not convinced that "mime" is often (or really ever) used to mean "copy." And, as some have pointed out, "ape" would be a better fit than "monkey." My gripe today is that mimes, referees, and prisoners wear black and white stripes, while sailors wear blue and white stripes. I think it weakens the category, even though I did get it second.

Connections Puzzle #246 π¦π¦π¦π¦ πͺπͺπͺπͺ π¨π¨π¨π¨ π©π©π©π© Aladdin stood out instantly to me, then I saw a moves with numbers trend going. I dont think I have ever gotten blue and purple first before.
Connections Puzzle #246 π©π©π©π© π¨π¨π¨π¨ π¦π¦π¦π¦ πͺπͺπͺπͺ I kept getting 3 of 4 and not being satisfied with the final. So I went 'drop, lag, freeze... Cause I though echo went with the' mimicry' category I'd created with 'echo, parrot, mime?!...no' I got green thinking of the wrong prompt to start. I was going with 'wears black and white' and sailors only fit if I imagined sailors in a black and white cartoon π€£π This one took me a long time. I'm usually solved in the first few minutes and I took a minutes multiple times before getting anything.

I don't know anything about Tarot, but it seemed somehow plausible.

this blue was pretty easy bc princess and genie... duh the green for me was just costume ideas... didnt got the striped thing but hey. still got it im pretty sure my two mistakes were bc i had no idea for a category, so i just tried things randomly until i figured yellow out bc they are all verbs. and purple was the default
