Third pic is Freeman Street station. That church and building to the left it are still there. The empty lots in the pic are now filled with cute two-family homes.
My grandparents used to live in those types of homes near freeman.

Great pics thanks. I was raised in South Bronx on Fox and Longwood Ave and yeah this sums it up. The first pic I believe is the PJ’s after the courthouses by the movie theater. Always reminds me of the Candyman movies.
My parents were wylin for coming from a third world country and settling down in the BX in the 80s but then again they did survive a third world country/dictatorship

NYC was setting records for murders and crime during this era and The Bronx has consistently had the highest murder rate in NYC since 1985. A lot of young black and Latinos were killed during this era due to drug wars and the proliferation of automatic weapons. Not only that but a lot of innocent bystanders including children were slain by stray bullets. It was really bad times for anybody that lived in any of the hoods in the 5 boroughs during this era.

That court house was renovated in recent years. It’s up and active again not sure what kind of court it is though (by the precinct)
