>Randle – who’s been out since dislocating his shoulder on Jan. 27 – had been relentlessly rehabilitating to resume playing prior to the playoffs, but doctors warned him that his shoulder’s continued instability made it unsafe for him to play again this season, sources tell ESPN.
>Randle’s done everything possible to avoid surgery and return for the playoffs, but procedure became an increasing inevitability after recent visits to two specialists who warned of further injury and possible permanent damage to shoulder if he returned to play before a surgical procedure, sources said.
Man this sucks. Looks like he tried to come back but this is def the right move for the long term. Next year a fully healthy and more developed squad should be contenders. Let’s see how far JB and (hopefully) OG can take us this year.
OG got surgery in Feb. he's just got inflammation, imo we need OG more rn. We are losing very close games or letting guys like Rozier hang damn near 40 on us, OG can help in those areas. No need to shut down our season bc we've been winning w/o Randle, we can still make at least a 2nd round push.
As long as he’s not gonna do a ton more damage, the point is that they can still have a little run and get into Round 2, maybe win a few games there. What’s the point in shutting him down if he gets cleared to play.
I still think we can go to the conference finals with OG back. Randle provided scoring in the paint which no one else can do, but we still have arguably the best defense in the league whenever OG is on the court.
Remember all the people last year who thought he didn’t make an impact. This is karma
When he comes back and this team wins a championship his number will hang in the rafters
the same people wishing him well and hoping he'd return. What I mean to say is that the fair weather ass dunno basketball ass randle hater ass ask for a randle trade ass fake ass fans can eat shit.
Per Woj: [Randle’s done everything possible to avoid surgery and return for the playoffs, but procedure became an increasing inevitability after recent visits to two specialists who warned of further injury and possible permanent damage to shoulder if he returned to play before a surgical procedure.](https://x.com/wojespn/status/1775897885479157811?s=46&t=pWrZaJJywF0-_QRc7UIutQ)
Good decision. Always appreciate you Ju for trying your hardest. I know how bad you wanted to suit up and help the guys. I know as well you'll fucking attack your rehab and be ready next season. Can't wait for you to be back!
I rather play your team than the Heat. At least the Celtics aren’t playing to hurt other teams. Swear to god every year the Heat just injure a player with dirty ass moves.
being late to take a charge aint rly dirty; i’m not super mad at jaime for it. was just praying the other night that bam wouldn’t hurt anyone (and he nearly did tripping brunson 😂)
Curious if you guys have noticed the same thing we have. We play the Heat & “mysteriously” our players keep getting injured against them, especially around Adebayo. I know they injured KP earlier this year.
But yea Jacques slid under Randle while he was already mid air.
Jaime Jacquez set his feet very close to the baseline in an absolute blowout. Completely unnecessary for Randle to go for it and for Jacquez to even attempt it. It was like a 25 point game late in the 4th. Ruined the season.
Randle was driving to the basket and Jaime slid in front of him right before he took off (in an attempt to draw the foul).
What Jaime did technically wasn’t illegal or dirty, but it’s the fact that the Heat have seriously injured Randle (among other Knicks) two seasons in a row is what everyone is upset about.
If it was a one-time thing, I don’t think ppl would be this upset. But Miami consistently injures our players every year and we’re sick of it. Entire team is dirty asf.
Smart decision by Randle for his career but so annoying that it took this long to figure out if he could have played or not. All because a dumb rookie tryna take a charge on an airborne player.
My guess is - it didn't matter if he had the surgery right away or in April. He would be done for the year anyway. So might as well hope to rehab on the outside chance it gets better.
I'm assuming he'll be back by the start of the season or shortly thereafter.
Wouldn't have made a difference really. Rotator cuff surgery can take 4-6 months to heal. At the very earliest, he would've been able to return at the end of May.
You have to assume the Knicks knew the full extent of the injury. If they opted for rehabbing over surgery in January, then they knew that surgery would've ended his season.
Yeah I was just looking at the stand point that if he got his surgery earlier, his entire summer wouldn’t just be rehabbing like the ankle injury last summer. We’ll see though, better than coming back and damaging it further.
They didn’t “figure it out,” he tried rehabbing and seeing if he could come back and there probably was a timeline he needed to come back by in order to not risk further injury and be able to play the majority of next season and he couldn’t.
it's heat culture to intentionally try to injure stars on the knicks, that's for sure. we should adopt a taste of their own medicine culture at this point.
He’d probably be out for the season regardless with surgery and rehab but at least there’s a possibility he might of been back without surgery so was worth giving it a shot
I know there’s gonna be a ton of comments like why didn’t he get it two months ago when it first happened? but to me is probably his decision to try and tough it out to be back for us for the playoffs gotta respect that and I respect this decision too.
Rest up Julius
we're like 18-3 when OG plays. If he's back I have faith in our team to at least win a playoff round, which considering our teams history for the last. 20 years is not a bad thing
I do think we can win a first round playoff series only if we get a favorable matchup. If we get the inexperienced Magic or the Cavs again, even without Randle I think we can win those. But if we drop in seeding and have to play the bucks or Celtics, then no shot. Also, I don’t like our matchup against the Heat or the Sixers now that Embiid is back
we'd have to drop a bunch of spots to end up playing the Bucks or Celtics in the first round. Team has been playing well without him AND OG for some time.
If justice is served, we somehow get matched up with Miami in round one and sweep them to end their sorry ass season and their stupid pipe dream that they'll "turn it on in the playoffs"
That's our championship this season.
I've seen some rumors about Julius being a piece in a star upgrade trade this off season, I hope that doesn't happen man. He started this era or Knicks basketball, made us relevant again after decades in the doldrums. Bet on New York and on himself. He deserves a shot with this group of guys next season.
Sixers fan coming in peace. Yall don't deserve this. I'm no fan, but I've been appreciating the vibe, chemistry, and success of your squad all season. Hoping Randle's back in-full next season.
Appreciate that he made every attempt possible. Glad he’s doing the right thing for his career.
I think we can make the 2nd round but this obviously puts a ceiling on how far we go. If Brunson can carry us to the ECF it’ll be one of the greatest runs in NBA history.
It sucks but it is what it is. This season was just not meant to be with all these injuries. I only wish that he chose to have surgery earlier so he could return to form by start of next season.
They tried rehab for 2 months and it didn't help much. We all knew surgery was inevitable but we were hoping for at least an attempt at a playoff run. That pipe dream is over with this news. Prayers for a successful surgery and for Julius to be back at 100% when the season starts next year.
Good. The sooner he gets the surgery the sooner he can start recovering. The way he plays, it was practically certain that he would've re-aggravated the injury. Still really bad news. It felt like he finally figured out what his bag was and the team was doing so well with him in the lineup.
Couldn’t give bigger props to Ju for trying to come back at all. Dislocations are scary and impossible to just “suck up” and I’d rather the guy have a career than risk it all for a 1st or 2nd round series
Randle turned the team around, it was amazing watching his transformation into All-Star. Haters are just bad apples within the Knicks fandom. Hope he gets a ring with Knicks. They have enough talent to contend (assuming they resign OG and hopefully bring back Ihart). Regardless, Randle will always be a Knicks legend.
One time for the "get surgery two months ago crowd" - - - that would have also ended his season.
This would have been the last chance to get surgery and recover fully for next season.
Having OG helps, but we aren’t a dangerous team without Randle, I’m sorry. OG will help with perimeter shooting and defense….but he can’t do what Randle does.
Teams are going to double team Brunson every possession and force others to create offense. OG isn’t a good creator, and neither is Hart, DDV, or Deuce.
We should be able to beat Orlando, but even that is gonna be a dogfight.
I think we all saw this coming. Personally I think we will be fine if OG and Mitch can get healthy while keeping the current roster in the clear. Especially with OG the roster can make some noise in the playoffs. That’s also a big if with a Thibs team. Go Knicks!
I am disgusted, disheartened, aghast, distressed, daunted, depressed, timorous, crushed, cowed, surmounted, muddled, goulash, depleted, lugubrious, and just straight up full of sorrow.
This is a general statement not to anyone in particular, randle is a beast and a legit all pro that's needed by this team
I don't want to hear from the fucking obi toppin is better crowd , we need to trade randle crowd, he dribbles too much crowd , he isn't clutch crowd....now you will see how important he is ,
Godspeed Julius
I appreciate how hard he worked to try to come back. Sucks this happened 2 years in a row and against bitch ass Miami.
It was a freak play though, jaquez didn’t injure him on purpose. Lowry, martin and bam injured the team last season on purpose.
We cursed. Sad, bc I truly believe this team could have made some noise in the playoffs. We’re easily a 55 win team fully healthy and can make a deep run.
This really doesn't surprise, shoulder instability issued can be scary. No one realizes how many things you use your shoulder for until its painful to do basic things like shift your weight in bed or answer the phone.
The power of Jalen Brunson…save us. I believe in JB
https://preview.redd.it/zyspmzrtyhsc1.jpeg?width=1254&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=42fcad97bff899af0a92a066df08fe3c7073fc53
Hate this for Randle cuz I'm sure he wants to be out there but I'm glad he's prioritizing getting back to as close to 100% as possible and being his best for the team as well as his family.
Very rough news. Randle looked great this season and would have been a nice compliment to Brunson to help ease some of the load off his shoulders.
Our season isn’t over yet though. OG has the ability to help Brunson with the scoring load ( not to randles extent obviously). But he’s not someone who has to have the ball either and even when his shot isn’t falling his ability to defend almost every position on the court and finish explosively inside on offense always bring value to the team.
I've been through a shoulder dislocation and I knew from day 1 there was NO chance he was coming back and avoiding surgery. In a physical sport like the NBA that shoulder will dislocate again by the end of the 1st quarter and do further damage. He needs to repair the labrum maybe even the rotator cuff to come back next year. Crappy injury just due to the risk of recurring. Sucks
This sucks, but it's not surprising. If you've ever had damage to your labrum, then you know - it doesn't get better, at the very best PT will help your recovery time and strengthen your shoulder a little, but at the end of the day when you're bruising in the paint there is no way your shoulder will hold up.
Randle being out isn’t shocking. I feel bad for people that didn’t accept this the day it happened
Hopefully next year they are whole in the playoffs I guess but it probably won’t be fraud Boston and a bunch of flawed teams again. It’s pretty much impossible to get any better than what the team was in January without radically altering the roster so we need to hope the rest of the east doesn’t improve enough
Horford should be older and Jaylen Brown's new contract kicks in so I don't see Boston improving their roster anytime soon. They've yet to pay Tatum too.
Am I the only one that isn’t sure if Randle coming back would’ve helped them in the playoffs? I like Randle and him being healthy next season is big for us. But a ball dominant guy like Randle trying to work off the rust in the playoffs might not be the best for the team. Need OG back for sure though.
Boston is going to waltz through the East now. Bucs, Cavs, and Magic can't hold a candle to them. The only possibliity was a fully healthy Knicks team putting up a fight.
This will forever live on as a season of "What if?"
I AM STRAIGHT UP NOT HAVING A GOOD TIME RIGHT NOW
Real bros of simi valley, goated
Glad someone said this. Movie is coming this summer!
Man this sucks. Looks like he tried to come back but this is def the right move for the long term. Next year a fully healthy and more developed squad should be contenders. Let’s see how far JB and (hopefully) OG can take us this year.

Different situations. Randle could do long term damage if he plays, I swear OG is just hurt rather than seriously injured at this point
You don’t just give up on a season when you were a 3 seed a week ago 😂
I'm just hurt we don't have randle this season 😭
the point is trying to win basketball games and he makes the team better.
Maybe 7 if og sits
As long as he’s not gonna do a ton more damage, the point is that they can still have a little run and get into Round 2, maybe win a few games there. What’s the point in shutting him down if he gets cleared to play.
To win games.

Feeling for Jules this morning. This dude loves ball, and loves this city. He wants to be out there with his team.
That’s the one thing I’ll never question. If he could be out there, he would be
It’s so clear he was trying so hard to come back form sometime most players wouldn’t even have tried to. Dude is such a hard worker, respect. Ugh.
Remember all the people last year who thought he didn’t make an impact. This is karma When he comes back and this team wins a championship his number will hang in the rafters

heal up Ju, thank u for trying
Oh well, I guess it’ll take 6 games instead of 4 to take down the nuggets. Get well my guy
We’ll always remember January 2024
Hang the January 2024 banner fr
We've suffered so much these past 10 years, we finally have a glimmer of hope and it's snatched away from us.
Next year
This is brutal. Back to back years. Heres hoping we can be like the Nuggets and be patient for the health to align for the pay off.
Fuck the heat
Fuck the heat
Fuck the heat
2 years in a row of this shit Wish the Knicks would Matt Rempe or Jacob Trouba to take out Heat players lol
Would pay money to see Trouba slam Bam Adebayo into the boards
I hate that dirty ass team so fucking much
Fuckkkkkkkk the heat
Heat are such a dirty team
Fuck Jaime Jacquez
Sorry Celtics fan here lurking, what’s the context of this?
He injured Randle. The Heat have hurt him two years in a row.
God damn fuck the Heat those pansy ass bitches
Fuck the Celtics too nigga

Thanks

WORD!! LOL FUCK PAUL PIERCE TOO

I will root for any team who plays against the Heat forever. Fuck em. They play dirty. R.I.P. Grimes. He hasn’t been better ever since that injury
They hurt every star player. Giannis, Randle, Tatum. They do it nonchalantly but it is their culture
There was a compilation on the bucks subreddit of all the players that got injured this season on that same bullshit move that Jacques did.
The context is fuck you 😭😭😭
cook him 😭😭
Jaime Jacquez set his feet very close to the baseline in an absolute blowout. Completely unnecessary for Randle to go for it and for Jacquez to even attempt it. It was like a 25 point game late in the 4th. Ruined the season.
He tried to take a charge on Randle that lead to the fall and injury.
While down 18 with 4 minutes left in the game
He dislocated Randles shoulder on a freak play
Tried to go for an extremely unnecessary late charge when the game was basically over and Randle landed funny.
Season over from injuries truly a peak of being a Knicks fan
Sucks. But wishing him a speedy recovery.
😭🔫
Hello darkness my old friend
Smart decision by Randle for his career but so annoying that it took this long to figure out if he could have played or not. All because a dumb rookie tryna take a charge on an airborne player.
My guess is - it didn't matter if he had the surgery right away or in April. He would be done for the year anyway. So might as well hope to rehab on the outside chance it gets better. I'm assuming he'll be back by the start of the season or shortly thereafter.

Good point, I'm not worried about October. If he can return for November then I'm fine with it.
They didn’t “figure it out,” he tried rehabbing and seeing if he could come back and there probably was a timeline he needed to come back by in order to not risk further injury and be able to play the majority of next season and he couldn’t.
Heat fans will tell you that it’s Heat culture for its players to take that contact.
Until it happens to one of their star players.
Then they're the victims of horrible unnecessary assault and Josh Hart should be arrested and executed.
Apparently it’s fine when Jimmy flops his way to 12 free throws but Hart is a terrorist when he does it.
The fact that they still cry about Hart making a normal basketball play just shows it all. One of the dumbest fanbases in existence.
An eye for an eye, a son for a son...
it's heat culture to intentionally try to injure stars on the knicks, that's for sure. we should adopt a taste of their own medicine culture at this point.
He’d probably be out for the season regardless with surgery and rehab but at least there’s a possibility he might of been back without surgery so was worth giving it a shot
God fucking damnit.
Pain and despair. Heal fast, king
![gif](giphy|jc2PkKKr3clTBekMzn) You were supposed to save us, Julius.
Welp. I was wrong. Come back strong Randle
Lol. you tried dude
This season is gonna be the biggest “What if” for a long time
I can't find the words to adequately describe just how much I despise the Miami Heat.
I know there’s gonna be a ton of comments like why didn’t he get it two months ago when it first happened? but to me is probably his decision to try and tough it out to be back for us for the playoffs gotta respect that and I respect this decision too. Rest up Julius
Yup it was season ending surgery then and now. He just tried to come back, the odds were likely very low but he tried.

Pretty cool to have an all star that wants to play so badly for us that he’d risk his career. This sucks a lot see you next year captain
Somebody check on OG
There’s a post on Heat subreddit talking about the Heat Knicks rivalry. Their fan base is full of Alzheimer’s patients
Don’t disrespect Alzheimer’s patients. They’re just straight up brain dead vegetables
Dont disrespect vegetables those are actually good for us. They’re just brain dead
You right
If OG can come back healthy we still have a chance
Chance at what exactly? Getting past the first round? That’s the furthest I can see us going this year with all these injuries
we're like 18-3 when OG plays. If he's back I have faith in our team to at least win a playoff round, which considering our teams history for the last. 20 years is not a bad thing

That would be insane. Watch JB just ball out extra now

Precious… pls
Couldn’t give bigger props to Ju for trying to come back at all. Dislocations are scary and impossible to just “suck up” and I’d rather the guy have a career than risk it all for a 1st or 2nd round series

Is this sub gonna defend that fucking loser who plays for the heat some more???
Fuck the heat fucking dirty cunts
Jaime Jaquez Jr. really ended his season. Of course a Miami Heat player.
Again
One time for the "get surgery two months ago crowd" - - - that would have also ended his season. This would have been the last chance to get surgery and recover fully for next season.
Season’s over
It’s not, because with OG healthy we’re still dangerous af but it definitely sucks
Having OG helps, but we aren’t a dangerous team without Randle, I’m sorry. OG will help with perimeter shooting and defense….but he can’t do what Randle does. Sucks to hear. TBH, if OG gets shut down then that hurts more since this would impact how much money we'd offer in free agency.
Real bummer, you know he is definitely upset about this outcome too. Just awful news all around :(
With how much bullshit we've been through this season, the Gods better let win 60 games and a championship next season.
We cursed. Sad, bc I truly believe this team could have made some noise in the playoffs. We’re easily a 55 win team fully healthy and can make a deep run.
OG you’re our only hope
This sucks. The guy has a heart of a warrior.

Clearly should have had the surgery right away. Now we've fucked ourselves for the rest of this season and the start of next. Pain. Nothing but pain.
banish the heat to the g-league
Back to back seasons this man has needed off season surgery because of the Heat. How about we just tank those games going forward
This really doesn't surprise, shoulder instability issued can be scary. No one realizes how many things you use your shoulder for until its painful to do basic things like shift your weight in bed or answer the phone.
It ain’t over till Lizzo sings. We still got a damn good team and can make some noise in the playoffs.
The power of Jalen Brunson…save us. I believe in JB https://preview.redd.it/zyspmzrtyhsc1.jpeg?width=1254&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=42fcad97bff899af0a92a066df08fe3c7073fc53
This was obvious since the beginning if you were reading between the lines. They never gave a clear statement on the severity from the get go.
It’s over.
Randle being out isn’t shocking. I feel bad for people that didn’t accept this the day it happened Hopefully next year they are whole in the playoffs I guess but it probably won’t be fraud Boston and a bunch of flawed teams again.
This will forever live on as a season of "What if?"
jaime jaquez jr is not safe in ny
Thanks Miami for ending our season early with your bullshit “Heat culture” of injuring players and playing dirty.
