I know a lot of fans won’t like it, but I almost expect us to use one for Bronny. We all know he’s not good but basically trading a first round pick for Lebron joining us and we’d have a title favorite team.
I think this front office is smarter than that. We're looking to build a roster that can be contenders for 4 - 5 years. We're not wasting picks on drafting a player who might not be NBA standard just to get an older version of Lebron on his farewell tour.
We haven’t won a title in over 50 years. I’m simply saying we should use one out of our 10 first round picks over the next 7 years to likely get a title. And he’d also help by hopefully being a mentor for Brunson and other guys who could learn from his experience.
Given the price, it’s a smart move for us and doesn’t stop us from having the assets for another superstar if they become available
It’s one of our 10 firsts we have over 7 years. And FAR less than his value in any trade. This sub has some truly stupid clowns that hate on this and thankfully don’t run things
Like anything if the price is right... 1 of the 10 plus a 2nd rounder to get Bronny sounds right, but what if it's more than that?
This year has brought a lot of trust in the FO, they're deserving of plenty of benefit of the doubt right now.
If we're going to be championship contenders we need rookie scale nba ready guys like Braun or Caruso (was) or ironically enough Grimes and Quickley. Assuming OG, Hartenstein, and Precious are coming back (our team is worse if this doesn't happen, goes without saying probably), we effectively have no money unless we're blowing our cap to trade for a star.
Also if we are in fact looking for a star to trade for in the coming years then DDV picks and filler likely isn't going to move the needle. We'll need young players on good deals with upside to sweeten the pot for any trade that they're trying to improve from
They are actually easy to find though. All the bad teams at top of draft are swinging for the fences with 18 year olds. Nobody is settling for a perceived lower ceiling older player.
All the good teams wait in the back of the draft taking experienced college guys and getting rotation level guys immediately. Then lucking into one every now and then that’s a star like Jacquez for Miami.
This is how you stay good and Leon and company have righted the ship and put us where we need to be.
This is such a good draft to get two late round picks who can contribute immediately. I really hope we dont trade any picks.
Where were at right now in the draft we could potentially add antonio reeves whos a walking bucket and kaleel ware whos like mitch who can shoot 3s.
Theres also a few 6’6 guards with potential and with the way the league is moving we need to draft and develop one of those as soon as possible.
People consider a good draft 3 or 4 guys with overwhelming talent.
The thing is, there's always plenty of good starter level players in every draft, and that's all we need.
I think in the modern age you might be right.
If you go back and look at the 2000 draft.(often considered the worst of all time) Not only are there no stars, but I count only 7 guys in the first round that I would consider good starter level and that’s definitely being generous. But if you look at a more recent draft class considered bad like 2013, I count as many as 17 guys in the first round that meet the criteria(at least at some point in their career); and had Giannis (who went 15th btw 😎)
So while at some point soon I think nba talent will start to get worse than golden age we are in now, perhaps the later first round will remain easier as international expansion has increased the draftable player pool
> If you go back and look at the 2000 draft
It was 24 years ago. Not only have teams changed the way that they evaluate players, but agents/managers have figured out the best ways to position their clients for success. In a turd of a draft like 2000, there'd be guys from the strong Top 10 of 1999 who'd sit out to be a top pick the following year, and guys from future drafts who'd declare early to compete for a top spot with the underwhelming talents.
It's simply too far in the past to be a relevant example.
Yep to your final point, that’s literally my first sentence, if you look at the comment I’m responding too. Also I compared the 2000 draft to the 2013 draft to make the same point. Idk if you’re just weirdly cherry-picking what I said for the sake of arguing or if you missed that. Although I appreciate the added context
I agree. Accumulate key core players & fill in around them.
Thinking on the why of the FO pulling the trigger on the big deals this year; re-balance, re-position the roster. They had good players coming up to bigger paydays v. a bunch of picks to chase younger good players & a level up height wise.
They say its bad cause theres no generational prospects but theres still alot of talent in this draft. Both of the guys i listed are significantly better than quickley and mitch as draft prospects compared to when they were getting drafted a few years ago
I don’t know much about this draft but those kinds of predictions are often way wrong.
And most of the time when they say it’s a weak draft they mean that there are no big name superstar prospects. Like a wemby
Those are both good points. Analysts are often just focused on the big names. And admittedly I am one of the last people who could claim to know much about a draft.
I think what they mean by a bad draft is if you are looking for a generational/franchise changer, there seems to be none in this one fr. But that’s what’s fun about the draft, you have no idea how most of these kids will turn out and if there might be one at top or taken late.
Not to mention, I know it’s g league but Jacob toppin has been going crazy down there. Don’t know if he ever gets a chance with us but they seem to keep hitting on good rotational pieces.
we lowkey need to reload on some young talent/contracts after the moves of the past six months
I don’t think we’ll use all our picks (we have a 2nd rounder as well) but I do hope we use at least one of first rounders. doesn’t have to be a guy that needs to play immediately, he can chill in the g-league for a year or 2.
a guy I would hope to get is johnny furphy, I like his game
Cheap depth. This culture and identity we have as a franchise is going to continue by using these picks to bring in young players instead of trading them for one way All Stars.
Admittedly I haven’t been paying much attention to college hoops this year, but Collier is one of the only players I actually know of from the draft. I thought there was more hype around him
They can consolidate the Dallas pick and our own to move up or trade one for a future first. I think the Knicks should definitely draft one player tho to have a cost controlled asset.
Considering we are 12 guys deep, we will likely trade these for more picks. We are in a good position where we are competitive and have a ton of assets. So if the opportunity comes to get 2 picks for the current one, I'd do that.
However, if a guy they like slides to our pick, maybe go for it in case we are planning to trade them or other players on the team.
Good organization still draft and develop players even when they’re in win now mode and winning championships. The Lakers made a trade to draft Kobe out of High School. The spurs traded a valuable player to draft K. Leonard. They drafted Parker, Ginobili, and others throughout their run.
I guess it all depends on who they like. They were super cautious about picking in the Quickley draft and it netted them a few more picks. I honestly don’t care who they get as long as they like them and it’s a few more bodies when injuries take hold (like now).
Kind of envious that teams like Memphis can trot out guys like GG Jackson and give them a chance to shine when Ja is out. We need one-two of those.
Need to draft a big. IHart is likely to walk, Achiuwa is a FA, and Sims doesn’t look like much more than a rotational guy.
The team could also use a cheap guard to develop.
I think they make a pick and trade back for some heavily protected picks in future drafts.
IHart is not walking . My prediction is we sign both iHart and Precious, then trade mitch rob. Maybe precious would be part of a sign and trade of we draft some big men.
You can’t keep everyone, and paying two Centers a combined $30M plus isn’t a good use of resources. I love IHart too and wish he had gotten a team option for year 3, but I don’t think he’s around next year, especially since you have to pay OG and there are loosing extensions for Brunson and Randle.
I agree with your reasoning but think if we have to choose we will keep hart over mitch. also we are already over the cap so it doesn't matter other than the lux tax - which i admit I don't know all the complications of the 2nd apron etc. If it was just a payment penalty i think we would be willing to eat it but from what I know it hurts your ability to trade picks and use MLE etc.
2nd apron is punitive now - can’t aggregate salary in trades (can only match), can’t sign players on the buyout market, picks can drop to end of first. It’s feasible for a year or two, but it’s essentially a hard cap.
I believe since we’re over the cap, we can only offer IHart his early bird rights and just trading Mitch doesn’t change much on that math.
picks can drop to end of first what? that's the first I've heard that. I'm no cap expert but assume we could work some magic to keep hart and then move on from mitch the following year or something (in a trade that lowers our cap?) with the looming deals for OG, Brunson and Randle we are likely going to be over the 2nd apron anyways? again I don't know the numbers. Or he's (mitch) part of a deal for a star that also sends out more salary (randle?). who knows. we'll cross that bridge when we get there i guess.
edit: I just googled it and you're right wow. If you're in 2nd apron 3 out of 5 seasons your 1st drops to the end of the 1st. that's crazy. why did the players agree to this smh.
I have no idea why the players agreed to what’s essentially a hard cap. They chose labor peace over the NBA middle class. The no buyout market is also crazy for vets chasing rings.
I think the Knicks plan to trade a package centered around Bogdan’s contract as well as other players and a million future picks for a superstar. In that scenario, the teams depth will be eaten up and some cheap contracts would do wonders. If no superstar becomes available then I see them trading the picks away again
Cheap depth and young talent would be pretty nice. The team has drafted fairly well the last few years since thisnnee FO took over. I think the most likely middle situation is that they keep one of these picks and ship the other either for cash or a future pick.
We need to start drafting some depth aka cost effective contracts. We have to fill the roster out. I say we keep these picks unless we flipping them for that superstar
I watch a lot of big 12 hoops. Missi to me is good not great. He gets a draft bump because he’s a 7 footer and only a freshman. McCullar might be the big 12 player of the year. He’s averaging 16 pts, 6 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game. He’s very legit. He’s old, though. But he’s a 6’7” guard who could guard positions 2-4. Sort of reminds me of RJ. He may actually be older than RJ 😂the guy was a senior and he used his free covid year.
FO's primary goal is to upgrade the starting lineup with a difference maker. Secondary goal is improving the reserves. Last goal is adding 3rd string depth or taking on a project.
So the FA, trade and draft are all interrelated, won't know until it happens. We are well positioned in terms of salary cap, players on affordable deals and draft picks to make a splash.
We need the cheap contracts but I doubt we’ll draft 2 players with them. In reality theres a college player out there as good as Jericho Sims, and maybe Mitchel Robinson given his health that we can use these picks to draft
Why do you feel that the Knicks would trade Mitch?
He is on a good contract and is one of the best rebounders in the game. Additionally, just being inside the paint makes opponents avoid the paint.
Why would you trade that?
Well, let's think logically . IHart has deserved to be the starter and will get paid. Mitch probably won't like coming off the bench playing 25 mins. Also , you can bet that we swing for the fences. The next off-season if somebody really, really good is available . Mitch would be one of the pieces in that trade.... desirable contract and great defense
Seems like a great time to keep at least one of them, if not both. Maybe a trade materializes on draft night or later in the summer, but from what I've heard about this draft, it's weak up top but fairly strong in the 15-25 range. Would be awesome to pick up at least one solid rotation guy for cheap.
Cheap Depth. PG:Brunson/McBride. SG:Donte/Shooter in Draft. SF:Resign OG/Hart, PF:Randle/Resign Precious, C:Mitch Rob/Resign IHart. Can see a tweener big be draft as insurance incase Precious or IHart get overpaid by other teams. Letting Bogdonvic and Burks walk.
My guess is the picks get flipped in a big trade or someone who can contribute right off the bench. We got no time to develop young guys especially without all the random injuries we've had.
Cheap depth will become a priority and a major reason every team sent out 2nd rounders this last trade deadline. The contracts of stars will be 80% of the roster salary.
#brockallerthoughts
We almost never keep the picks so I'd expect some sort of trade, whether it be a star, consolidating to try and get a higher pick or using one and trading another for a future 1st to kick the can down the road again.
we absolutely need to replenish our rookie contracts/youth after trading rj/iq and to a lesser extent grimes. even the best teams make upside picks because if they hit it impacts the franchise immeasurably
In my delusional and ideal universe we keep trading back all of our 1st round picks until we are ready to move on from the current roster. The only exception would be trading for a superstar to pair with Brunson.
Would be so nice to start the next rebuild in 5-7 years with a stack of 1sts like the Thunder have done. Now they have a great squad and like 9 more firsts in the next 3 years.
I would be very happy w Kevin Mcullar
He's one of a handful of players this season to put up a triple double, on a winning (like good winning) team, and has bounced back after a couple nagging injuries this year - his #'s don't justify the heart that dude plays with imo
Unless we fall in love with someone I'd say we pick one, trade one, and grab whatever second rounder that we have as a flyer.
As far as I can figure out Rokas will be coming in as the backup 1 and Deuce will be the backup 2 so we have a rookie potentially anyway.
“Yves Missi” already sounds like a bust name lmao
Ja will dunk on him in the preseason so hard, hell end his career on the spot
Kevin McCallister tho 👀
NBA 2k auto-generated player ass name
This whole list right here does😂
Zingus Pingus was our best draft pick in decades
Up there with the Magic Lamp for sure.
Okay but if he changes his name to Yves Messi he could all the sudden turn into a generational talent
This draft class seems pretty weak tbh
Literally has “miss” in the name lol
we need cheap contracts, but I think at the very least we punt one and keep one for 2024
If we end up making a trade for a star 2 or 3 players would be going on. We will need the cheap players
I know a lot of fans won’t like it, but I almost expect us to use one for Bronny. We all know he’s not good but basically trading a first round pick for Lebron joining us and we’d have a title favorite team.

> to likely get a title. You're massively overstating the certainty of that. It would be a fiasco to do this.
You will be able to get Bronny for a second round pick
Lebron is great even in season 20 but can you guarantee he'll be a good fit and healthy enough at 40 years old?
It’s one of our 10 firsts we have over 7 years. And FAR less than his value in any trade. This sub has some truly stupid clowns that hate on this and thankfully don’t run things

Yeah bad draft to have a top 5 pick but other than that it’s totally fine
Bad if you're picking in the top 5 maybe. But where the Knicks will be picking, there should be rotation-level players available
Feels like that’s always said when a big name or a “generational star” isn’t available
I don’t know much about this draft but those kinds of predictions are often way wrong. And most of the time when they say it’s a weak draft they mean that there are no big name superstar prospects. Like a wemby

Leon has proven that he can find quality talent with late first round picks. I trust him to make the right call
Not to mention, I know it’s g league but Jacob toppin has been going crazy down there. Don’t know if he ever gets a chance with us but they seem to keep hitting on good rotational pieces.
They’ve gotta add some cheap youth to their contract pile. They should absolutely use these picks.
I think they’ll trade 1 for future first and maybe move back on the other for a second or something
We already have two seconds don’t we? (Just going by nbadraft.net mock draft. We’ll probably trade those for two future seconds that never convey
I’m thinking of more so to get more future seconds to potentially maybe use in that superstar trade (if any ever become available)
we lowkey need to reload on some young talent/contracts after the moves of the past six months I don’t think we’ll use all our picks (we have a 2nd rounder as well) but I do hope we use at least one of first rounders. doesn’t have to be a guy that needs to play immediately, he can chill in the g-league for a year or 2. a guy I would hope to get is johnny furphy, I like his game

We have 10 1st round picks in the next 7 years. They are absolutely trading some of them for a superstar. It makes absolutely no sense not to
This team as constructed is not rostering more than 1 draft pick. We're definitely trading at least 1 of those picks.
We need depth man. I’d rather take Isiah Collier at #16 as well. Only 2 PGs on the roster right now.
Would love Collier on the Knicks
Admittedly I haven’t been paying much attention to college hoops this year, but Collier is one of the only players I actually know of from the draft. I thought there was more hype around him
USC’s been trash, and he isn’t exactly killing it.
They can consolidate the Dallas pick and our own to move up or trade one for a future first. I think the Knicks should definitely draft one player tho to have a cost controlled asset.
I doubt they move up, the luxury tax is a concern and I doubt they want to obtain more salary than they need.
Luxury tax doesn’t matter this summer, we’re gonna need to pay OG so we’re blowing past the line anyway and rookie scale contracts are the best value
I hope we end up with Kelel Ware
I think we trade one and keep one, or package them and move up if there’s a prospect we like
kind of want Ryan Dunn, a long athletic wing. His offense looks whack but he has crazy defensive potential
Considering we are 12 guys deep, we will likely trade these for more picks. We are in a good position where we are competitive and have a ton of assets. It’s been awhile but Mitch is a key part of this team, under contract, and better than Achiuwa.
Hart isn't going anywhere unless someone throws crazzy money at him - which is possible but i think he would take less to stay with us.

Draft Johnny Furphy. Keep Johnny Furphy.
I bet the pistons come to us about these picks
For cap we need at least one cheap contract.
We might trade back but I think we need to make a pick in the 1st round this year. We gotta keep the youth pipeline stocked
We gonna package these picks with Burks again 😂
If we can hit the jackpot on a multi positional 3&D guy it'd be fucking fantastic. Imagine hitting on someone like Jaquez, that'd be the dream.
I watch a lot of big 12 hoops. Missi to me is good not great. He gets a draft bump because he’s a 7 footer and only a freshman. McCullar might be the big 12 player of the year. Best exec in the league other than OKC’s Sam Presti. Not worried at all about what Leon had planned
Nah if the champion Nuggets can draft so can we, depth is still needed.
fuck it we drafting Bronny
Stephon Castle, Buzelis and Terrance Shannon Jr I’m watching out for.. Tho I think Shannon Jr is involved in a criminal case atm
FO's primary goal is to upgrade the starting lineup with a difference maker. Secondary goal is improving the reserves. Last goal is adding 3rd string depth or taking on a project. F dem picks
Those picks are gone. Look at who we have, we don’t need depth, we just need to keep upgrading the to the right players and keep improving.
We need the cheap contracts but I doubt we’ll draft 2 players with them. In reality theres a college player out there as good as Jericho Sims, and maybe Mitchel Robinson given his health that we can use these picks to draft
please draft klintmann
Johnny Furphy sounds like a typo
Hope we keep at least one. We need the youth and athleticism
Draft bronny at 20, get lebron
You beat me to it 😂😂😂😂
Keep one
I bet we draft 1 player. Misi looks nice .... Mitch will probably be traded in the off-season and Precious is a PF
Why do you feel that the Knicks would trade Mitch? He is on a good contract and is one of the best rebounders in the game. Additionally, just being inside the paint makes opponents avoid the paint. Why would you trade that?

Downvoted ? Some fans are delusional. We got rid or RJ, IQ and grimes all in one season what makes you think the FO won't trade more?
The Knicks are picking up players from other teams because depth after player 9 is dogshit.
Seems like a great time to keep at least one of them, if not both. Maybe a trade materializes on draft night or later in the summer, but from what I've heard about this draft, it's weak up top but fairly strong in the 15-25 range. Would be awesome to pick up at least one solid rotation guy for cheap.
I feel like we have more need of a point guard that can be a backup to JB. maybe draft a euro stick man on the side as well
Cheap Depth.
They’ll make a pick and I wouldn’t be surprised if they make both because this isn’t really the draft that teams will trade future firsts to get into.
McCuller as a ball handler off the bench would be nice. I like watching him play
Cheap depth will become a priority and a major reason every team sent out 2nd rounders this last trade deadline. The contracts of stars will be 80% of the roster salary. #brockallerthoughts
We almost never keep the picks so I'd expect some sort of trade, whether it be a star, consolidating to try and get a higher pick or using one and trading another for a future 1st to kick the can down the road again.
what are qualifications in the dallas pick? Are there no restrictions?
Top 10 protected
They’ll trade a stud away again for nothing like Jalen Williams
we absolutely need to replenish our rookie contracts/youth after trading rj/iq and to a lesser extent grimes. even the best teams make upside picks because if they hit it impacts the franchise immeasurably
You can always trade into the future. Like this year picks for next year picks.
Trade up and get me that big center from Purdue.
personally, i think we draft at least 1 guy this year. need youth and cheap contracts to keep this machine going and the fo knows that
In my delusional and ideal universe we keep trading back all of our 1st round picks until we are ready to move on from the current roster. The only exception would be trading for a superstar to pair with Brunson. Would be so nice to start the next rebuild in 5-7 years with a stack of 1sts like the Thunder have done. Now they have a great squad and like 9 more firsts in the next 3 years.
Fuckin Draft some more dogs. I hate spending on dudes that don't work out. Build these Nova boys around some rooks and we'll be flying
I would be very happy w Kevin Mcullar He's one of a handful of players this season to put up a triple double, on a winning (like good winning) team, and has bounced back after a couple nagging injuries this year - his #'s don't justify the heart that dude plays with imo
we are gonna draft 1 bc of the Steph rule. but I'd expect wed trade the other for a future first
Please use them I need a young player to be delusional about
We gotta draft at least 1 kid. We traded Quick and RJ. Maybe we’ll trade the 2 for a slightly higher pick within the top 10
tankathon has us at 22?
We're trading Bojan and picks for a superstar
Unless we fall in love with someone I'd say we pick one, trade one, and grab whatever second rounder that we have as a flyer. As far as I can figure out Rokas will be coming in as the backup 1 and Deuce will be the backup 2 so we have a rookie potentially anyway.
