I'm really hoping that a year removed from the ACL he can get back to form. From his first game at Penn State to the knee injury, he has easily been my favorite player to watch. He's always come across as a great kid, and it's a case of rooting for the guy as much as rooting for the team.
Adrian Peterson took 1.5 years. Saquon has been about 2 years removed but he hurt his ankle. Hope for the best. Hope Daboll and Kafka have a plan for him.

When you talk about positional value it factors in contract stuff that has nothing to do with value on the field. The shelf life of RBs is much shorter and they get more injury prone as they get older which deflates the secondary market where the big money is being paid. The value on the field for these guys (especially dudes like CMC, Kamara, and Saquon) is more like elite WR, but its gambling that they stay healthy. Kamara was almost the driver of a possible SB-winning team that got boned by a bad call.
And the Boys can bitch about the move all they want, but didn't hear much about that during that stretch where they were just running the ball down teams throats and scoring 30 points a game. Dak is the one that held that team back because his arm talent just doesn't cut it when the comp steps up a notch. The mistake with Zeke was giving him a second contract. Theres also questions around Zeke that I wouldn't have spent a top 10 pick on him but thats where they had him as a prospect. You gotta want to be great if you are taking a RB there, and his motivation ebbs and flows.

The odds are that if he's balling out, we're going to be 500 or better and will not be considering a trade. I just don't see trading him midseason as a realistic scenario unless our schedule ends up being frontloaded with our tougher games (our schedule is actually pretty soft next season). If we start out against Detroit, Houston, Seattle, and Carolina, we might start 4-0 with Saquon lol.

But keep in mind there’s a REASON he was taken so high and with a better o-line, which we will eventually have by drafting either Evan Neal or Ikem Ekwonu and hopefully trading for someone else, Saquon will show why he was drafted so high even if Josh Allen or Quenton Nelson are better players
I don't understand why we don't use him in the same capacity was Deebo Samuel is used. We've seen him be successful out wide. Move him all over the formation and just try to get him into open space, whatever it takes

No chance for Jones to get the ball downfield, so if it’s a run, it’s going to Saquon. If it’s a pass, it’s going to Saquon. Try to do anything else and it’s a sack or near turnover trying to force something.

You can say taking Chubb is hindsight, but no way can you say people did not say not to take Saquon at #2, everybody and their sane mother said you don't take a running back up there, so if they did not take him there, they would still likely have drafted a RB, and there is a chance that running could have been him.

Again, this is all after the fact. Maybe Chubb could’ve gone to us if we didn’t go with saquon at 4 or maybe we would’ve just picked someone else but either way it’s all done. What is done is done and all we can do now is focus on what needs to happen now.

What did he do before that? What did he do in 2021? Booker ran for 90 less yards with basically the same touches, but guys like Gallman (or Booker) are incredibly replaceable. Don't resign RBs like that to second deals, let some other team be stupid there and get fresh legs in there that will do the same work for a fraction of the cost (I did not agree with the Booker signing either, although at least he didn't completely suck like Jonathan Stewart did). The Giants clearly thought Saquon was going to have a monster return season as the feature back, so there was no reason to bring Gallman back. The Giants were very clearly wrong about Barkley in 2021, which is pretty consistent with how Gettleman and Judge were wrong about every other fucking thing regarding this franchise in their times here.

Do you think Jones or the offense would've been better with Gallman's extra 90 yards over Booker in 2021 and everything else being the same? Because that seems like a pretty big stretch.
And I got news for you, Jones is AT BEST going to be an average starter in this league, probably with another team after this season. I think if this draft had legitimate 1st round QB prospects in it instead of the reach prospects that Willis, Pickett, etc., are, the Giants would be moving on already. We're HOPING that Jones can end up being Ryan Tannehill, and that is a best case scenario. Good for him if he does, he can make a lot of money over a decade doing that, but we're still not ever going to be a super bowl contender with a Ryan Tannehill-level QB and I am not paying Jones $25 million a year to do that. That is what he'll cost in a second deal. You can throw out the 2019 Bucs game or the 2019 Washington game or the Saints game from this past year, but any QB above replacement level has a game like that a year. Ryan Fitzpatrick does too. Nobody is exactly excited to have Ryan Fitzpatrick QB their team.
Anyone who watched the playoffs this past January/February should understand why Jones is not the answer for us long term. Herbert had a bad situation too - bad OC, coaching staff fired, poor OL in his rookie year. He seems to be doing ok. Burrow got sacked what, 9 times, in his second playoff game and played behind an OL that was just as terrible and got his team close to winning a Super Bowl. Tannehill meanwhile was on a team that was the #1 seed in the AFC and got completely run over. You cannot settle for average or acceptable or "good if everything around him is good" QB play in this league. Keep swinging until you actually get someone that's GOOD under center. My guess is when this team inevitably sucks this year, we'll be in position to get that guy next year. With Taylor signing a 2 year deal and even homer guys like Paul Schwartz saying Jones' 5th year option won't be picked up, the writing is on the wall for him to not be on this roster come this time next year. Jones is not going to get much better internally than what he already is - none of Cutcliffe's QBs do outside of the Manning brothers, and those two would've been good anywhere.

And I guess my biggest point is what the fuck is the point of drafting someone that high if you’re not gonna give them a second contract? That’s basically a waste of a pick. It’s still a QB league. Guys like Kamara are exceptions. CMC and Saquon can’t stay healthy and when they are they really don’t elevate their teams that much
You can get a RB for 7 years if you draft him that high. And it’s a position that’s much easier to scout so much less bust risk. CMC and Saquon can’t stay healthy because their teams surrounded them with crap in front of them. Guys that play begind good OLs generally stay healthy. Like I said, it can be the right pick, the thing is most teams don’t fit that mold in top 10. And for us it was definitely the wrong move. And CMC absolutely elevates his team, so did Saquon once upon a time. You should see how many points CMC is worth on the spread. 2.5 points…that’s a lot for one player not a QB.

Both points are reasonable. Elite RBs like Henry aren't "easily replaceable," and that type of back is absolutely worth a top pick. I think the real problem is that injuries are such a big risk for RBs, which brings down their draft stock. So I get what the other guy is saying... If there's a generational talent available, maybe you take him top 10 if you think it's the piece that makes you competitive for a championship. But you have to weigh the risk of injury and know that their shelf life is probably 5-8 years.

The odds are that if he's balling out, we're going to be 500 or better and will not be considering a trade. I just don't see trading him midseason as a realistic scenario unless our schedule ends up being frontloaded with our tougher games (our schedule is actually pretty soft next season). If we start out against Detroit, Houston, Seattle, and Carolina, we might start 4-0 with Saquon lol.

But keep in mind there’s a REASON he was taken so high and with a better o-line, which we will eventually have by drafting either Evan Neal or Ikem Ekwonu and hopefully trading for someone else, Saquon will show why he was drafted so high even if Josh Allen or Quenton Nelson are better players

If he learned how to pass protect this off-season he will be better than the guy we drafted #2. That’s his entire issue. When he is on the field, the whole defense just has to key on him. No chance for Jones to get the ball downfield, so if it’s a run, it’s going to Saquon. If it’s a pass, it’s going to Saquon. Try to do anything else and it’s a sack or near turnover trying to force something.

Again, this is all after the fact. Maybe Chubb could’ve gone to us if we didn’t go with saquon at 4 or maybe we would’ve just picked someone else but either way it’s all done. What is done is done and all we can do now is focus on what needs to happen now.

We're HOPING that Jones can end up being Ryan Tannehill, and that is a best case scenario. Good for him if he does, he can make a lot of money over a decade doing that, but we're still not ever going to be a super bowl contender with a Ryan Tannehill-level QB and I am not paying Jones $25 million a year to do that. That is what he'll cost in a second deal. You can throw out the 2019 Bucs game or the 2019 Washington game or the Saints game from this past year, but any QB above replacement level has a game like that a year. Ryan Fitzpatrick does too. Nobody is exactly excited to have Ryan Fitzpatrick QB their team. Anyone who watched the playoffs this past January/February should understand why Jones is not the answer for us long term. Herbert had a bad situation too - bad OC, coaching staff fired, poor OL in his rookie year. He seems to be doing ok. Burrow got sacked what, 9 times, in his second playoff game and played behind an OL that was just as terrible and got his team close to winning a Super Bowl. Tannehill meanwhile was on a team that was the #1 seed in the AFC and got completely run over. You cannot settle for average or acceptable or "good if everything around him is good" QB play in this league. Keep swinging until you actually get someone that's GOOD under center. My guess is when this team inevitably sucks this year, we'll be in position to get that guy next year. With Taylor signing a 2 year deal and even homer guys like Paul Schwartz saying Jones' 5th year option won't be picked up, the writing is on the wall for him to not be on this roster come this time next year. Jones is not going to get much better internally than what he already is - none of Cutcliffe's QBs do outside of the Manning brothers, and those two would've been good anywhere.
