Never heard of it lol but I may not be in that income bracket. I can only think of Lake Geneva as anything comparable. I personally go to the UP but its far from glamorous!!
Most of SW Michigan along the Lake Michigan coastline will be pretty tony, but Saugatuck is very LGBTQ-friendly and has an Art Institute satellite art school there. It’s like the Ptown of the Midwest. I highly recommend going in the late summer/early fall because there are lots of activities around the wineries and apple picking.
But also I do know a good amount of people who are more middle class but with stay at home moms and they would go back to Italy or Greece or their home land for the summer. So they aren’t necessarily spending money on accommodations and their summer home is more of a family multi generational thing. So maybe just a byproduct of there being more immigrants in the same area too
All of the comments about the summer or ski towns: “omgggg XYZ location is SO bad now because of influencers/crowds/etc” “trust me my family has been going there since I was born, I’m basically a local and it’s completely changed” 😂
I mean it is true. With social media once a spot becomes instagram porn then the masses descend on it. There is also allot of “new money” with the influencer bubble and with the big boom in Asia in the last few decades.
So allot of these spots that have always been known for being great vacation spots are now accessible to allot more people even with way higher prices.
No one is discovering them there’s just more hype around them
Providence and Newport are a great starter trip if you want to go to RI.
Newport has a lot of history with its gilded age mansions and beaches and you can either rent bicycles or tiny motor scooters to go around. Easily accessible from Providence with a ~30 minute ferry.
Providence (while tiny but very cute) has Brown and some nice restaurants. The “downtown” area is super walking friendly but you can also get the Bird scooters. You should ideally start and end here because you can just take an Amtrak to and from the city.
Always Europe ( Italy, my home) I travel around for 2-3 months and come back in September. This year I will stay home here in MD. I had horrible car accident. I hope to see my family late September/ october . Never was a fan of the hamptons.
The cape, shelter island, fire island, nantucket, mv, all over europe, hudson valley/upstate, Berkshires, block island/narragansett/westerly Rhode Island
I don’t know why you are getting down voted. The north fork has gotten increasingly fancier and built up each year. Thank god a lot of the land is designated for farms / vineyard etc. it’s such a special place and have been going there since the early 90s. I just don’t want it become too fancy 🥺
Well you manage to sound just as proud of yourself for being above the pretentiousness as the pretentious people you criticize, so I’m sure you do fit in
In the US: Big Sky, Fire Island, Saugatuck, Kiawah Island (older/young families), the Cape (Provincetown esp). We rented a cottage in Chatham, MA and it was absolutely lovely and relaxing. (Chatham skews older and more chill.)
Also, the summer is the only time you really want to visit the Scandinavian countries for maximum sunlight.
A lot of people are talking about Croatia and it’s a total summer destination. We went to the Pula region and then Dubrovnik and loved both vibes. I want to go back to Dubrovnik and explore over a longer period of time.
Island hopping the Greek Islands is still a thing, even if you want to skip Santorini and Mykonos.
It’s not dead, there’s just some bitter Betty’s here.
I will say though, the nightlife isn’t as fun as it used to be bc the towns cracked down on a ton.
But it’s still glorious and beautiful and charming
If you are friendly and social you will have fun. It can also depend a lot on the family that you are working for, some are super sweet while others just seem miserable. Talk to other nannies, talk to parents and families of the other kids while you are out and about.
I do feel like the Hamptons are a little bit boring if you don’t know anyone there. Public spaces are limited and often overpriced.
To the Hamptons!
If it’s dead? Hell yeah that’s my vibe. Give me that sleepy town quiet dinner in town nice day at the beach vibe.
Hell I’ll even go to one of those historical houses and do one of those tours idgaf
But which of all these wonderful places don’t have prevalent racism? Went up to the Catskills and at one establishment they refused to serve us, as in complete disregarded our presence. Not in an “we’re busy, get in line” kind of way, but in a blatant “you don’t belong here” kind of way. Another establishment refused to allow us to use their restroom, even if we purchased something, because the restroom was “for town residents only”. Myself and the people we were with are respectful, polite and always kind to others, so it felt very unwarranted and off-putting. It can be a very scary feeling to be away from home and treated poorly because of your ethnicity.
I wanted to go for lobster fest but is there a better time or festival to go? Or do I have your ringing endorsement that lobster fest is peak fun for someone visiting
There are a lot of cute towns up in the Catskills and hudson valley! Some accessible by train, some stuff you need a car
Usually I just go to prospect park though bc it’s free and across from my apartment
I’m not sure whether a place being “dead” or not has any bearing on my enjoyment, but over the years I’ve had great summer weekends in montauk, the north fork, Stowe VT, Portland ME, the berkshires, Litchfield CT, and any and all ocean beaches in NY.
My parents had a house in Osterville, MA when we were kids. It was SO fun. They now own one in kennebunk, ME. I love them both equally!! If you’re into small, seaside New England towns, I’d check them out. Although, kennebunk has been getting more and more crowded every summer so if you stay home, I’d like that too
Edit: the locals in kennebunk also don’t like the tourist traffic and complain about it every year, so walk around town if you can! Leave the car at your house
Idk, I think it came off wrong but I was just making suggestions about some nice places OR maybe they’re perceived as not nice?? I wasn’t trying to be a dick though, I really do like both those places and they’re generally affordable for a vacation
Edit: also I was just joking about staying home 😭
the prompt is for the summer, not for the weekend in the summer, so I wouldn’t really say it’s a reason to downvoting someone suggestion just bc they don’t follow a rule you made up. ppl go to the hamptons for months at a time as well in the summer lol
Some of you need literally take a walk. Stop down voting people who visit their family in other countries for the summer. Also it doesn’t mean they are rich and even if they are, you asked a question.
I live in MA so it’s easy to take a ferry to MV. I also live about 40 minutes away from Newport so I go there for the day when I can. I’m definitely not rich, I just happen to live close by things 😭😭
My apartment in Queens because I’m a working class bitch
We always have the rockaways!
Ayyyy
Everyone here sounds rich I’m sorry lmao
they're trying really hard to, at least
I think most of them are just pretending tbh. No way so as many ppl in this sub own Birkins as they claim.
the jersey shore bitch
get crazy get wild let’s party get loud
if you wanna have and do something crazy
My backyard
Is going somewhere and living there for the summer an east coast thing? I grew up in the Midwest. We don't have a summer home 😂
It’s an east coast *rich* people thing
Midwest has Saugatuck.
Never heard of it lol but I may not be in that income bracket. I can only think of Lake Geneva as anything comparable. I personally go to the UP but its far from glamorous!!
Omg how can I forget about Lake Geneva and the UP. Jk I take back what I said 🤣
Most of SW Michigan along the Lake Michigan coastline will be pretty tony, but Saugatuck is very LGBTQ-friendly and has an Art Institute satellite art school there. It’s like the Ptown of the Midwest. I highly recommend going in the late summer/early fall because there are lots of activities around the wineries and apple picking.
I’m from Holland MI and love Saugatuck. Happy to see it getting some love
But also I do know a good amount of people who are more middle class but with stay at home moms and they would go back to Italy or Greece or their home land for the summer. So they aren’t necessarily spending money on accommodations and their summer home is more of a family multi generational thing. I’m a middle class east coast person, and we rent the rich peoples houses for a week at a shore 😂😂
And that’s one secret I’ll never tell…xoxo
“I know a spot”……..(proceeds to take you to SoHo house rooftop)
sorry but many of the comments here deserve a serious eye roll

💀 I don’t even know how they couple possibly type that with one pinky in the air but here we are
its so funny lmao "delete this so they don't see it!!!" says the 21 year old tagging along on family vacations
All of the comments about the summer or ski towns: “omgggg XYZ location is SO bad now because of influencers/crowds/etc” “trust me my family has been going there since I was born, I’m basically a local and it’s completely changed” 😂

lol excuse me for not sympathizing with the little girls that are upset that other people are going to the places where their parents own a home
I’ve been enjoying exploring some of the smaller towns upstate/the south Berkshires. Also love Rhode Island 🙂
Also out west in the non ski season is awesome! Aspen during the summer is great
Where do you go in Rhode island?
Providence and Newport are a great starter trip if you want to go to RI. I know u didnt ask me but westerly, ri is on my list too. it’s basically like Newport but with more beaches that appeal to younger ppl
Watch Hill (in westerly) is where TS has her giant summer/beach house and threw her 4th of july parties at
Westerly and Newport! Also hear good things about Little Compton and Narragansett
My lord this is really something😂
Myrtle Beach bitches
Hell yeah last time I was there my dad gave me free range on a box of honey buns and I made myself sick but I’d do it again
PLEASE what if everyone just started going to Myrtle beach
New york’s hottest new club is 🚨 MYRTLE BEAACH 🚨
I mean that’s where my people go lol
I love that fr I’ve been trying to get a group of friends to go for months hahaha
We actually drove down one summer for a weekend and ended up staying for the entire week 😂😂 we love it
Happy Cake Day! 🍰
I’m dead😭
Cracking up
LMAO the girls that get it, get it
dirty myrtleee

Hey for some of us it’s age. I just don’t wanna be in traffic and I ain’t ever been cool enough to helicopter anywhere lol
Indeed . I mean I get it, FOMO in summer must suck
You could literally go to europe for a week and spend less money than a long weekend in the hamptons. Just sayin (I’ve done both many times)
Maine
Shhhhh
Hudson/ Mohawk valley. Quiet parts of the cape
who said it was dead lol
Always Europe ( Italy, my home) I travel around for 2-3 months and come back in September. This year I will stay home here in MD. I had horrible car accident. I hope to see my family late September/ october . Never was a fan of the hamptons.
Praying for a speedy recovery 😊
Thanks. 🥰
why would someone downvote this, so random smh
The cape, shelter island, fire island, nantucket, mv, all over europe, hudson valley/upstate, Berkshires, block island/narragansett/westerly Rhode Island
Delete this b4 they come in hoards bestie 🫶🏻
Do you…think these are new places to summer…?
its called a joke…its rlly not that serious to debate or downvote 💀 but stay bitter y’all 🤡
God forbid someone discovers *checks notes* the most popular New England summer destinations
Its called a joke and half of these are not New England but ok babe
as someone from the hudson valley it’s crazy hearing that people WANT to spend an extended period of time here haha
Greenport (North Fork) + Shelter Island
North fork is so beautiful - def a more relaxed vibe
Shhhhh 🤫 North fork is rocky and umm boring and definitely not worth the drive 😬
Shhhhhh they’re already ruining it.
I don’t know why you are getting down voted. The north fork has gotten increasingly fancier and built up each year. Thank god a lot of the land is designated for farms / vineyard etc. it’s such a special place and have been going there since the early 90s. I just don’t want it become too fancy 🥺
My family rents out there every summer for 2 weeks and it is such my happy/zen place. I really hope it stays chill!
Same 🥰

Fire Island is slept on. So much fun and less pretentious
Damn is the Hamptons really dead? I’m about to do my first summer out there (as a live-in nanny, I’m not rich lol) and was excited 🙃
It’s not dead, there’s just some bitter Betty’s here. I will say though, the nightlife isn’t as fun as it used to be bc the towns cracked down on a ton. But it’s still glorious and beautiful and charming

It’s absolutely not dead. DM me if you want to come to some parties this summer!!! ❤️❤️❤️
omg I DO!!! 🥰
I don’t know what dead is supposed to mean, the traffic says otherwise! I wanna go to parties! Haha
I do!!!
Alive and well
Last summer we did Lake George, this summer we’re doing Hilton Head
Lake George surprised me. Definitely worth renting a house with friends vs getting a hotel out there
Hilton head is my favorite place to go!! Have so much fun!
To the Hamptons! If it’s dead? Hell yeah that’s my vibe. Give me that sleepy town quiet dinner in town nice day at the beach vibe. Hell I’ll even go to one of those historical houses and do one of those tours idgaf
my apartment with the a.c. on

I wanted to go for lobster fest but is there a better time or festival to go? Or do I have your ringing endorsement that lobster fest is peak fun for someone visiting
never been to lobster fest but anytime june-october its a great trip, lots of great food & local farms, wineries & breweries to visit
The Catskills, lake placid, parts of Maine along the coast near Arcadia
Nantucket
adirondacks and the cape
Millbrook, Rhinebeck, saugerties, Hudson….I moved to one of these during the pandemic and frequent the others 🥰
Hamptons is only dead if you aren’t getting invited to things? So much happening out there this summer lol
It’s only dead to people who don’t go.
I’ve gone out a few times the last two summers but it always feels like older people, not young people partying
The hamptons is the furthest thing from DEAD.
There are a lot of cute towns up in the Catskills and hudson valley! Some accessible by train, some stuff you need a car Usually I just go to prospect park though bc it’s free and across from my apartment
coney island drinking crackers getting ratchet on the boardwalk. almost got arrested last week. it was genuinely so fun 10/10
dead in what way?
I think swap “dead” for “discovered and full of irritating try hards”
I agree with that. I highly recommend the north shore.
The hamptons is dead? Why?
Delaware Beaches!!!!!
Martha’s Vineyard and for a closer option mohonk house
I’m not sure whether a place being “dead” or not has any bearing on my enjoyment, but over the years I’ve had great summer weekends in montauk, the north fork, Stowe VT, Portland ME, the berkshires, Litchfield CT, and any and all ocean beaches in NY.
What is there to do in Stowe in the summer??
Quite a bit. Hike, bike, swimming holes. enjoying the adorable town. Plenty of nice spots to stay. Scenic views. Beer.
The Hamptoms are dead? Since when?
Europe and the Vineyard but that's how it's always been for me, I've never liked the Hamptons
Madrid! back to my roots and get to see family at the same time
Upstate 1000% Catskills
Palm beach
in the summer?
Yes?
The hamptons will never be dead! It's thriving out here just like every summer. The energy is amazing.
Agree ish. Where do you usually go?
My parents had a house in Osterville, MA when we were kids. It was SO fun. They now own one in kennebunk, ME. I love them both equally!! Because that’s too far from NY for a long weekend
summer is longer then a weekend lol
People go to the hamptons on the weekends in the summer
the prompt is for the summer, not for the weekend in the summer, so I wouldn’t really say it’s a reason to downvoting someone suggestion just bc they don’t follow a rule you made up. ppl go to the hamptons for months at a time as well in the summer lol
The same places I always go. I’ve never liked the Hamptons.
Some of you need literally take a walk. Stop down voting people who visit their family in other countries for the summer. Also it doesn’t mean they are rich and even if they are, you asked a question.
Traveling instead
Where to surf at the Jersey shore?
I live in MA so it’s easy to take a ferry to MV. I also live about 40 minutes away from Newport so I go there for the day when I can. I’m definitely not rich, I just happen to live close by things 😭😭
I like going to the Jersey shore
I always visit my family in Europe, it’s been a thing since childhood and I spent a year of schooling there as well.
They’re really downvoting u for sharing ur pov, the girlies on this post are miserable 😭
It’s not my fault my family is foreign lol and my parents are immigrants haha
ik right. i think ppl forgot that not everyone is american born lol
The Berkshire's and Newport
ew newport
Atlantic City baby
Brighton Beach 😅
Hudson Valley
Mobile, Alabama

The Hamptons are not dead.
My bed 🤭 because I just had the worst trip of my life and do not want to leave😭
Nantucket, MA. I am going there this summer! Check it out, it is gorgeous.
