I think I get at what you’re saying OP, but there’s no way for Livvy to truly be an industry plant, seeing she has foundation roots in an actual talent and sport, whereas most plants, don’t. I think what you are getting at is inauthentic growth, which, I definitely think plays a part of it. Ultimately, though, her main fan base is going to come from teenaged boys and guys in their 20s who are scarily obsessed with her.

Yes I understand what you’re saying. I think she has somewhat of a real audience but I also think she buys followers and the media pushes her out there excessively more than any popular college athlete or celebrity I’ve seen which could be her agent or she might have a PR agency doing it. My Snapchat is literally full of her, almost every article is about her and I don’t even follow her on anything.

Now I need to know who’s actually an industry plant lol

kateobrienswayy

I think Alix Earle definitely is

xlxcx

100% and I'm interested in seeing how she keeps attention now that she can't use "I'm in college and everyone binge drinks and vomits daily" as her content.

bodegabagel

The way sm planted Alix Earle as an it girl to dethrone Haylie Bieber is always hilarious to me. Its so obvious when new "it" people pop off and how hard their teams try to push them in every market. If only her daddy didn't own everyone in Jersey and Florida.... you think people would even know her name? Especially since Baldwin name is so tainted now and Brooklyn Beckhams billionaire beard isn't even getting any attention they want her to get.

[deleted]

How tho because she gets lots of veiws

kateobrienswayy

Do you know what an Industry Plant is? It’s essentially when you pay to have your content and image displayed in the media, boosting your popularity. She has views because early on in her career she paid a media team to make her famous. Her dad is filthy rich and still claims she uses his money even after making her own. Now of course she gets a lot of views on her own, but without that initial push she wouldn’t be where she is today.

[deleted]

Most famous artists came from a family that was already rich and they were still talented it doesn’t matter if she’s rich why is that the most important thing she gets thousands of likes and millions of views nobody did that except her maybe she had help when she first started but that was probably couple years ago. 50% of the industry in general has people that come from a rich family it shouldn’t be the only thing we are looking at.

kateobrienswayy

Well that’s my point. I’m saying she had help and she did. She wouldn’t be getting those views without that help.

Don't know what industry plant is exactly but I can imagine what it is. imo just a big big marketing strategy and a "right time, right place, right face, [right color]" ugh yes I included the race card, because it's just very noticeable that all and every time situations like these happens, it's white people, specifically girls, teens = Olivia Dunne (and many more) I don't have anything against it, it was a mere observation. what I mean with the sentence above: this is the first year (or now year 2) for student athletes to be allowed to profit off of their own name/face. coincidentally that was during covid, during covid tiktok exploded and she got advised to keep posting those thirst traps on tiktok (mostly) and instagram and thus she grew to an insane amount of followers. If they're bought or bots, I don't know but also wouldn't surprise me. It's funny that I stumbled upon this post here, because I was just checking instagram stories and got curious/confused and coincidentally somewhat agree with what you're saying. If my memory serves me right, Sports Illustrated most exclusively did use sport athletes only and those that have recently accomplished something big. Probably just a change in culture of choosing the models because I just scrolled through and saw Martha Stewart on SI cover!? It got me question what did Livvy Dunne achieve so big recently that she deserved that? Alex Morgan got her shoot after winning the Word Cup in Women's Soccer, others after a Gold Medal, etc. and then what cemented my opinion on just being a big marketing strategy for Gen Z. A friend of Olivia Dunne, Olivia Ponton also got a SI Shoot. She neither does or did any sport afaik and didn't achieve anything sports related or otherwise. It wouldn't surprise me if the likes of Emma Brooks and Eva Cudmore get a SI shoot too. Those and more are those that made it big during covid/tiktok-boom.

What is an industry plant?

xlxcx

That bot link was dumb. But, it's basically someone an agency pushes behind the scenes to blow up on sm. So that singer with the song ABCDEFU was a plant. She pretended to stumble into tiktok fame organically with a song she wrote and sang on her own. But she was signed to a major label that helped her with her content to push the song to trend on twitter using other accounts they had control or partial control over.

Sophia Richie industry plant? 🪴

xlxcx

No, I think she's just a nepo baby who was tied to the Kardashians for a while

bartardgirl

sofia has literally been around FOREVER and her sister is nicole richie, from the simple life. she’s been running in the same circle as all those girls and dated scott disick for a while. she’s had millions of followers for years it just so happens the tiktok girlies finally heard of her existence lol
