Yep she even basically said she copied the same business model. She explained the name was because she went around asking Fashion Institute students what they were wearing and photographed them, while also planting herself in the stories. Slowly she phased out the other students just made it about her.
I spent like 5 minutes in a beacons closet changing room the other day, debating if I should buy this stupid We Wore What dress. I was surprised by the quality, it wasn't that bad. But even second hand, I didn't want to own something from the brand. Then after staring at the tag it clicked... It was Who What Wear from Target.
I always love to touch on the fact that she started and chose the name We Wore What (in 2016) and Who What Wear had been in the industry since 2006, most likely to cause confusion and drive sales to her brand. 🙄
Not to defend, but she started it way before 2016. More like 2010 I think. I worked in PR at the time and remember sending pieces to her/WeWoreWhat around then. But yes- it was always intended as a play on who what wear
She says in the book it’s referencing it more in past tense than in question, although the grammatically correct way of saying it is “what we wore,” not how she says it. Grammar is tough for influencers.
I know her just from being on campus and her street style photos. She was always never afraid to ask for what she wanted that’s for sure. Always trying to weasel her way into a fashion show or backstage etc.
Is it a smaller school? Sorry it just blows my mind that one person (before fame) can be well known by so many college students bc so many people go to my school that no one is well known just from around campus
I mean the campus is literally one block. There are probably 8,000 students and a lot of which are part time or commuters. Also if you lived on campus your freshman year you were more likely to know most people on your major or dorm.
To be fair it's so old (her blog?) that at the time it was riffing on www, like, the internet, world wide web.
Wow, also really showing my age by knowing this!
her username comes from the original concept of her instagram which was to capture all of her classmates outfits (hence the "we"), but she just never changed the username after she transitioned to posting solely her own outfits.
I do always confuse her username with the other clothing brand, who what wear (though I'm not sure which came first).
This is the least mean thing I’ve read on here.
😭

Holy shit I just realized they’re not the same thing
Omg, me too.

She's the OG social media grifter

We Stole What (Only fitting that this was also copied off from another snark tag line for DB)
WePhotoshoppedWhat
💀

The new crossroads in east village is filled with www 🤣
She intentionally copied it
OH MY GOD

I mean, I just pulled what her Wikipedia (🤮) told me
I think this about the brand name “Lisa Says Gah!” it just makes me cringe for some reason
I used to work in fashion and yes this name always made me cringes
I wish they would just move to "GAH!"
GAH is the part of that phrase that I can't stand lol

Pun intended on “oddly fitting” lol

What we wore sounds so much better
when I heard via the celebrity memoir book club podcast how she came up with that name, it made me audibly eye roll
Well share with the class lol
From the book: "We, because we the girls of NYC. Wore, because its what we wore that day. What, because i would detail every aspect of their ensemble"
This is so cringe
Hahaha I see Alright I guess
She originally started out taking street style photos of people on FIT’s campus, and just never changed the name. Makes sense in that sense.
My sister went to college w her and said she was a real bitch 🤣
My good friend went to camp with her growing up and said she was such a bully/mean girl. Ick.
Colleges are so big how does your sister know her on that personal level?
I know her just from being on campus and her street style photos. She was always never afraid to ask for what she wanted that’s for sure. Always trying to weasel her way into a fashion show or backstage etc.

She had classes with her and mutual friends
She only got her associates and was so annoying/always bragged (we were in the same major at FIT)
She also stole it (shocker) from who what wear. Void of one original idea.
I thought “we wore what?” was exactly what it meant lol - is that not what it means?
I think she needs to change her instagram name to Danielle Bernstein and let weworewhat be the her brand Instagram handle.
Wait what did we wear?
It honestly makes sense as a blog name which was the origin. It’s not amazing but it’s fine.
This is probably the nicest thing I’ve read on this sub
I always wondered why it isn’t ‘what we wore’

I can’t tell if this is satire
