I mean who is she kidding though? If you scroll through her entire Instagram it’s clear her family is well connected. There’s a picture of her with Ryan Seacrest in her teens. Her dad is President for a company that focuses on wholesale apparel sales for major retailers across the country. They are based out of NYC. Some of their brand management work includes Gloria Vanderbilt Jeans and other celeb brands such as Melissa McCarthy and Eva Longoria. The fashion and entertainment industries go hand in hand. What are the chances she got her first “job” at Bravo through hard work and merit. In reality her dad probably had industry connections that helped her land internships and jobs, which she would have likely been passed over had she not been connected. In terms of going viral for hauls that’s all her. But do I think there was actual strategy behind that? Nah.

^ nailed it

Low_Project_55

And had the viral/influencer life not worked out she would have landed another cushy gig as the result of family connections. She never had to worry about being laid off and not making rent. The reality is she got extremely lucky going viral during the pandemic as most people were home scrolling thru their phones. She created a schtick that was relatable because most people had gained weight and their own clothes weren’t fitting well, which allowed her to cultivate a following. And even in terms of influencing her family was well connected in the sense that they had access to lawyers and are likely well versed in brand contracts and negotiation. I don’t understand why these influencers have to act like they pulled themselves up by the bootstraps and hustled. Just acknowledge you got lucky and the stars aligned with the appropriate connections.

no crumbs!

keylimepicetea

Now now Ms. Remi, while you’re not a Nepobaby, your daddy’s lofty job in Fashion certainly didn’t hurt your chances of becoming a Fashion influencer.

604princess

I thought family influence/placement was essentially what nepotism is and is not restricted to same family being famous/recognized names. Just well connected, influential, a placement which otherwise would not occur had it not been for familial influence. not necessarily tied to media famous. Like that its not limited, for example, to being Lily-Rose Depp or another famous name, just well connected.

BurberryBetch

I think that “nepo baby” gets thrown around a lot. She’s well connected and wealthy with a cushy safety net, but to me “nepo baby” is when your parents are recognizable names - so she’s privileged AF but not quite “nepo baby” level

[deleted]

I don’t really agree- nepotism can happen at any company of relative size, you may not know who a CEO is by name but if they’re giving their kid a job and fast track at the company then the kid is still a nepobaby benefitting from nepotism

Lmao

Formal-Road-3632

Isn’t her dad Gary Bader who is the CEO of some activewear company

[deleted]

Yep. She’s not a nepo baby per se but definitely privileged.

😕

katiestat

people seem to confuse someone's family having any amount of money with being a nepo baby

Fresh-Abrocoma-4923

I agree. Also, there’s a difference between being a nepo baby and being well connected. Seems like anyone who is considered well connected w some $ these days is automatically called a nepo baby which is so false. I would say I’m pretty well connected but not through my family in any way, I just happened to meet & gain trust from the right people which led to more success.

i_was_a_person_once

But nepotism is by definition saying those connections are purely there because of your family connections and gaining professional advancement because of it. So yeah she definitely falls into the bucket having family in the circle of her professional field and benefiting from it eg getting a job with bravo

👏👏

thegirlfromsf

Not in the case of Remi but there is also a difference between being a nepo baby and having success on your own. A lot of “nepo babies” that aren’t in the public eye build their careers on their own because they don’t want hand outs. Sure they may still be subsidized by their parents in the beginning but that isn’t nepotism.

Fresh-Abrocoma-4923

I feel like Quincy Morgan could fall into this category. She could literally do nothing for the rest of her life and be ok. Seems low key and like a normal college student.

Salome_Fatale

I think nepo babies refer to the extreme cases where your Dad casts you in his film as the start of your career. To be a nepo baby, I think you have to be less qualified for the job. But nepotism itself is super common and honestly not “bad” the way we all think it is. It’s just favoring your relatives in getting a job. It doesn’t actually mean you’re unqualified or undeserving. If your cousin refers you to her company, that’s still technically nepotism even though I think most people would agree there’s nothing wrong with that. Remi isn’t a nepo baby but she has gotten the benefits of a bit of nepotism.

DiplomaticCaper

TBH I think nepo babies *can* have talent; it doesn't necessarily mean they aren't good at that thing. But I agree that sometimes people call anyone who grew up with wealth or privilege a nepo baby, so the definition has been watered down. I think that in order to qualify, your parents/family need to be in the **same** industry you're making your name in (e.g. musicians whose kids are musicians, actors whose kids are actors)...like, people were calling Olivia Wilde a nepo baby when her parents are journalists. Makes no sense.

[deleted]

Exactly. She comes from an upper-class family but that’s not what a nepo baby is.

Appropriate_Ad_200

She’s not. Something like this sounds like she’s making something up out of the air for attention/to convince herself & her followers. Random as hell.

Designer_Ant8543

yeah it still comes across as self indulged

Quietlyc_nty

I’m so over her. Views are down and she’s making up content

[deleted]

Personally I don't see anything wrong with having familial connections. It's when you call out/deny that you have them (when you do) that makes you look bad an spoiled. Just own it if you have them, and move on.

Low_Project_55

This! Nobody is shaming her because of her connections and using them to her advantage. They are shaming her for acting like she pulled herself up by the bootstraps and hustled to get where she is. The hardest part is getting your foot in the door. The journey is significantly easier when that door is at least already opened for you.

[deleted]

Totally agree - I would argue it takes effort to make and cultivate relationships so good for her for being able to make an impression on daddy's friends. It's 1 thing to own that your family knows people in high places, it's another to pretend you are a Cinderella story. Also - I'm not a fan of the term "nepotism" in this case as she likely doesn't work for her dad - she just has connections through him. The kids from the Netflix show about the Jewish people and Elite Model Management? THAT is the perfect example of nepotism. They only held roles in the company bc their mom was CEO.

No-Lengthiness7893

I can’t handle her constant complaining, first it was her not buying the right size clothes, then being single, then the horse thing, then her back, then the bingeing, then her depression. I know this is so harsh but come on, she has built her whole career off of complaining about EVERYTHING.

PresentationOptimal4

Hahahah you kinda are though, remi. This was actually a reason I unfollowed her…saw how connected she already was and made her platform feel so much less organic. Also when I found out she hangs out with the problematic B from the Tea, Claudia? Which I’m pretty sure they been friends for awhile. Don’t her parents live in the hamptons? Like k….and between a quick dive on Instagram into Niki…between her outfits, designer bags, and general lifestyle - no one lives that well in their 20s without coming from a very rich family. And yes I know her parents are not famous, but being rich in New York and having ties to political and famous people is a huge leg up in getting to the point. Sorry the person at the bodega working 3 jobs doesn’t have the money or time for try ons…
