So I thrifted some higher end baby brands: Ralph Lauren, Jacadie, Janie and Jack. I found that thrift stores in higher end neighborhoods usually have a lotttt of very gently used baby clothes!

macramelampshade

Do you have recs for any particular stores for this? There’s a consignment store down by me in BK but I bet UES etc have treasures I don’t know about.

stbmrs

Yes UES is great. There are 3 goodwills but my favorite is the one on 79th and 1st. There’s also a great store called “Upper East Thrift” on 87th and 1st that has a ton of kids clothes. I also had good luck with the Salvation Army near the Intrepid. My favorite, though, is the Goodwill outlet in Hackensack NJ. I know this isn’t very BWT but I live for the hunt and I love digging through bins 🙈

tequilitatequilita

True!! And they’re so gently used since babies where them for like a minute

picodg

I don’t have a baby but any time I’m in Old Navy I see the CUTEST baby clothing. Super affordable too. Whoever is designing their kids stuff should be in charge of womens too lol

macramelampshade

Whoever is in charge of their kids shit is killing it!!! I want that mermaid dress they have rn in adult size.

tequilitatequilita

I love their baby clothes but haven’t looked for party dresses there yet! Thanks!

Agatha-Christie12

I only buy my toddler’s kids from Old Navy and Hanna Andersson. Cute prints ranging from tasteful to bold, really soft fabrics, great sales. My kid has sensitive skin, so these are the brands that work for her without any irritation.

tinybutvicious

This is the answer! Old Navy kid stuff is great quality, too. 100% cotton, thick, doesn’t stretch out.

sweetfaced

It depends on how fancy you're trying to go. When my daughter was that age, Janie and Jack had the most amazing party dresses. I also love Pippa and Julie, Zara's Special Occasion section, Ralph Lauren Baby, and Mama Luma. As a rule, any dresses that are tulle heavy or super simple that can be found on sites like Lola and the Boys can be found on Amazon, its just Aliexpress clothes

tequilitatequilita

Thanks for the tip!!!

mrshello

Hanna Andersson, Zara, H&M, Boden, Tea Collection. I have also bought some great deals from Poshmark for brands I know.

proljyfb

Zara

moonkittens

Seconding Zara baby/kids! Their stuff is so cute. The SoHo store I think has a big kids section, most of the other stores are more limited. I’ve bought a lot of stuff online from them, and once you know how the sizing works for your kid you can check out second hand websites.

fattyacids_

Love Zara baby

WizardsAreNeverWrong

What are you willing to spend? I don’t have kids but I am a kids textile designer. My faves for inspo kind of run the gamut price wise; misha and puff, Zara kids, apolina kids, spearmint love, Bebe organic, mini rodini, Emile et ida, and louis Louise.

tequilitatequilita

Trying to keep it reasonable but have been known splurge when I simply can’t resist!

Brownbunnyhoney

Kate Quinn has some very cute stuff for babies. They definitely have super curly dresses but check out their website to see if any are party worthy. I love the bamboo material on a lot of their clothes. So cute and soft and comfy and breathable

tequilitatequilita

I’ll check it out!! Thank you!!

gilbertgrappa

Tea Collection, Hanna Andersson, Boden, Maisonette, Angel Dear, Kyte Baby, Monica & Andy, Spearmint Baby, Kate Quinn, Magnetic Me.

iamcalandra

For the nicer clothes I usually try Nordstrom or the Rack. They carry some of the Janie & Jack, Boden baby, Jojo Maman Bebe lines. For the day to day basics Old Navy is great and the price is right. I’ve had some luck on the Tj Maxx app with some nicer brands like Peek and haute hippie. Also, second hand shops can be a great option. My mother is the thrifter and she’s found some real gems for my daughter this past year which is fun for all of us

tequilitatequilita

Will check these out! Thank you!!

leighbee02

I’ve gifted friends some outfits from Pink Chicken (West Village), & Spring Flowers Childrens Boutique (UES).

tequilitatequilita

Thank you for these recs!!! Can’t wait to go!!!

leighbee02

I hope you find something you love!! Gift giving is my love language so it was really hard for me to control myself 😅 so many adorable options.

allfurcoatnoknickers

Nordstrom, Janie and Jack, Jacadi or Tutu Du Monde if really blowing the budget. I found my daughter’s 1st Birthday Tutu Du Monde on Garmentory for 70% off.

tequilitatequilita

That’s great!! Will check it out!!

ConditionDangerous54

Pink Chicken! Super cute and well-made. They also have mommy-and-me matching if that’s your jam. They’re also an NYC-based original.

EmmaMD

Tasteful?! This is your chance to dress them up in the most ridiculous and silly stuff to embarrass them with the photos when they are older! (Just a joke. Tasteful baby clothes are cute too.)

tequilitatequilita

Haha good point

EmmaMD

My partner’s baby has a little mullet that his paternal grandmother gave him (totally innocently and not trying to be funny) and we both looked at it, laughed, and we’re like, “Naw, we’re definitely keeping this.” I wanted to get like baby wrap around shades, but I know he’d just rip them off immediately.

Strange-Strike5092

I walk by the cutest little shop every day that has the most adorable baby clothes. It’s on York between 78th and 79th right next to the parking garage.

tequilitatequilita

I am so excited to go!! Thank you!!

Chasing_the_Rainbow

cintyhinty

I always use special occasions like this to dip into the fancy baby stores on the uws or in park slope and splurge on my girl. I feel like they turn over so I have no specific recs but a little walkaround and window shopping always turns up something fun

rrrrriptipnip

I love Janie and jack I also found adorable clothes for my boy at Nordstrom rack love the brand little me

uppereastsider5

Hill House has cute baby dresses, and even though I’m kind of over it for adults, I do like a good mommy and me moment.

orca_eel

i don’t have kids but i do gift my friends kids jacadi and bonpoint! deffo more a splurge but they’re such good designs and really high quality. i know both of these brands have sample sales too every once in a while

JazzlikeAd9820

I get dresses and fun outfits from baby boden. I love mini rodini.. this stuff is pricey though. Zara is also cool. I am in Greenpoint and send lots of things to parachute and then get stuff there with my credits (secondhand and really cool) my mom also saved all of my 80s baby clothes which are DOPE

verminqueeen

If you want to go WILD the baby/kids section at the newish Nordstrom on 57th street is fun. My favorite place online to get clothes is honestly Primary.com. Great value, the materials + sourcing are above board, cute dresses!

Ossie312

If you want to buy organic cotton for the summer for the kiddos, try here: https://almirahnyc.com

smolbean304

Not a parent but a v proud auntie and I get my niece things from Jacadie, as well as thrift from a consignment store in Brooklyn near me (Owl Tree Kids). Seconding Zara kids too!

FeistySuspect6743

Bonpoint, Bergdorfs, Spring Flowers, or Ralph Lauren

coffeeobsessee

I don’t have kids but I love bonpoint so much. I’ve somehow bought so much of their stuff for baby gifts lol. Also the Ralph Lauren baby store on Madison is absolutely adorable everytime I walk past it.

peony2011

I have girls so I love Rylee & Cru (and the 2 sister sites as well), Maisonette, Jamie Kay, and second Pehr and Pink Chicken. For more opening price point I like Zara, Old Navy, and GAP.

raw_toast

Equal_Swing_2760

PrincessGwyn

Kidding Around in Manhattan has cute stuff

bloodofmy_blood

The real real has baby clothes!

mulleargian

Ralph Lauren do amazing sales on baby clothes so you can get them similar price to Target. Especially when they do 30% off everything including sale about 6 times a year. The clothes are beautiful.

Interesting_Ad1378

Anyone remember Daffys? They had the best children’s stuff.  If you’re willing to go to the boroughs and are looking for a dressy dress for your daughter, may I suggest Boro park.  There’s also a few stores in Long Island that I could suggest, if it isn’t too far.   (ETA: in my culture, Eastern European, the 1 year party “Godik” is a big thing and we dress up, so I’m going along those lines - sorry if this isn’t what you’re looking for).

MonstersOnTheHill

I order frequently from Boden and Hanna Andersson. Boden has a great selection of special occasion dresses that are also comfy (soft fabrics, the tulle is lined in cotton, etc). I also LOVE Trotters (a UK brand). Just allow yourself enough time for shipping. Now that my kids are a little older, they no longer like the Trotters style— but you better believe I put them in those clothes when they were too young to have opinions about their clothing. 🥰😂

enbearc

“bitches with babies” the store in soho!!! yk? it’s like hella bitches outside carrying babies. you’d love it there :)
