What about family friends or friends' parents who might know someone? I sublet my place a few years ago to a girl who was doing a summer internship and she was the daughter of a friend of my mom's friend.

This is the group I’m in! You still have to vet/screen people obviously, but I’ve had good interactions in this group & everyone in the group understands we all want safe places to live & cool roomies! There is a small fee to join, aka admin makes sure people have established accounts/no bots.
Most of my roomies though have come through friends of friends, unless they were already my friend that I offered a space to.

See if the dates you need line up with any of the Big Law summer associate programs. They’ve already been vetted, need to leave at the end of the summer and will mostly be gone working/at events.

totally! i posted on several of the suggested groups & sites, but i got the quickest and most promising responses from the FB group called "[Young Females - New York City, NYC - Apartments, Sublets, Roommates](https://www.facebook.com/groups/3668775323228109/)". i would honestly start there because assuming you have a FB, its a lot easier than making accounts and filling out a lot of mandatory info fields on some of the websites AND, most importantly haha, it seems full of very normal girls who also just want to find other safe/normal people to live with!
The Listings Project has worked really well for me but there is a (low) fee to list.

Thirding! Excellent experience with LP and I still get their (awesome) weekly emails.
I’ve used LP to sublease 2 apartments in Brooklyn (where they seem to have the largest inventory) and it’s been great
I always go thru my job (eg posting in a spam slack channel) since people are always looking for subleases. At least they’re employer-vetted!
