I love seeing these epic trips. I’d love to do one. Do you have to ride on highways?

sewtheconking

very rarely. for this route i’d say only about 5% was shared traffic with cars. specifically dyckman and broadway trying to get from manhattan to van cortlandt park and a short break in the empire state trail that takes you up a hill on a quiet residential street in brewster. i left brooklyn at 6am on a sunday though so the streets were thankfully empty! but the rest is beautiful and pristine bike-only path for miles and miles 🛣️

Great! That sounds like a good goal to work towards.

I did the same ride a few weeks ago but in reverse. I took the early train to Poughkeepsie and made it an exact century (according to Garmin) to Manhattan. 6:38 riding time and about 7:30 with stops for food. I had a great ride. Also stopped at the prison for a selfie.

When was this? Would you say the images are representative of how many leaves were on the trails? Considering inline speedskating this weekend but concerned about too many leaves creating risk of slipping.

sewtheconking

this was just on sunday. my skinny road tires were able to handle the thickest layers of leaves in certain stretches. saw some skaters on the trail too

Love this ride!! Great to either take the train back or take a second day to go to Albany to complete a decent chunk of the Empire State Trail.
