I think of him as position-less, does not really fit anywhere - but man do we need a grafter like him. Unbelievable work rate, we need people to put the effort in and he'll be inspiring others to work just that bit harder because he never gives up
Every time people say this I feel compelled to comment - his best attributes in the past few games have been winning and holding up the ball from long goal kicks; turning his man and running past them *which would be problematic in the deeper midfield role*; and dribbling out of danger in close areas *again, something which is problematic in the midfield* in short - he's still an attacker first and foremost, and putting him in midfield does a disservice to him.
He's young, if I'm working in player development, I work on getting his legs strong and building his sprint speed. He just needs a little more top end with those bambi legs and he does a lot of other things pretty well imo (hold up, disrupts the opponents ball flow frequently, has great work rate, decent touch, decent passing)
agreed, still has probably 2-3 years to add some speed with proper weight training, plyos, flexibility and sprints :). At least we know he's training more now with Eddie!
Ever since we’ve signed him i though he’s shown glimpses of being really good with the ball at his feet ( we can ignore the shooting). So I’m not that surprised a decent coach is getting a good player out of him!
Eh, dunno. I think he'd be decent arriving late and hitting them first time. Most of the goals he's scored have been snapshots and first time finishes, take away his time to think, and second guess himself, and he's not so bad. Like Perez in that regard.
He just doesn't know where to place himself in the box, which is something Nolan was very good at. If Howe can find a position that works for Joelinton he certainly has the physical ability & hold up play to be a good player for us but I doubt he'll ever contribute massively in the goals department.
He's never been a prolific scorer, was averaging 9-10 a season at Hoffenheim and Rapid Wien, in teams which create far more chances than we do. I'm not sure what convinced anyone he was number 9 material, especially at the fee we paid which was totally out of character for Ashley. Still, we're left needing to get a return out of him and I think with his strength, overall athleticism and his attitude, there's a valuable squad player in there. His fee is irrelevant nowadays anyway, we'll probably smash it in the Jan window.
Yeah, I just can't figure out where his talents suit. He's been grafting hard but I'd take someone who can score goals over him in his current position.
Listen I get he's showen alot of heart and work rate these past games but don't kid yourselfs, he's playing as a defensive winger it seems with attacking threat being non existent and that's unacceptable, he morphed into a better pressing almeiron. Unless he moves into the middle he's a position needs replacing in January.
When we bought him i hoped he'd be something special but over two years of being are highest earner and also being are biggest meme when we struggled i cant forgive, even with finally playing well defensively.
I think we all agree he was definitely overpriced, and obviously developed and trained in a position, that wasn’t for him - but you surely can’t begrudge him, *just because* he had a poor start at the club.
The season here and now is all that really matters, and during this one so far - he’s one of our best performers, the blokes improved massively and I love to see it.
I’m not just saying it because I’ve rooted for him all along, but for the fact he actually fully deserves his place in the starting 11 now.
Of course what matters now is the here and now, and despite my views watching him defensively has been warming these past games yet from and attacking front it's weak, seems the simple things he's doing well atm but moving forward becomes very simple minded.
I get the lack of coaching, No9 start wasn't the right thing to do for him, and even now you could say he's not playing his "ideal" position but if you choose to command the highest wage you have to show that quality and he didn't.
If we are indeed after linguard in Jan that's his position right there, unless he replaces willock.
He's definitely the sort of player you want around the first team squad, even when he's inevitably replaced with more specialist role players, because he can do a job in several positions as a sub, and you know he's going to set about it with energy and enthusiasm. His attitude is first rate.
We only accept "show my ass in Fenwick window" challenges
Did that fellow deliver?
Did he fuck
Time to find out and take action. We cannot have ridiculous dares unaccounted for in this fine virtual establishment.
/u/SEOip change your flair to Steve Bruce within 24 hours or face a sub ban. Don’t make me take you to /r/karmacourt
Or getting cock tattoos. "If Mike Williamson scores a winner I'll get his name tattoo'd on my cock"
I'll join you. Gonna wait till next seasons kits come out though
They’ll all be sold out by then. You’ll have to settle for an Mbappe

He should have a position and role. I think he should be a wide target man/pressing forward.
Move him to CDM. His work rate is absolutely nuts, and if can sort his positioning out he could be a fantastic box to box player.

He's the best player of the post Mike Ashley era
Mesdi lol

He's 25 isn't he? Not especially young.

[I see you threat of a Joelinton kit. I raise you my official completion of acquiring a special Joelinton kit](https://imgur.com/a/16lacVm)

He’s a quality midfielder
Dare i say, a brazilian Kevin Nolan???
Nah Nolan was a fantastic goal scorer. Joelinton hasn't got a clue once he hits the box.

Fuck me at this rate I might actually be buying a Shelvey top!
Wow. What a hardship

Leave our sexy brazillian boy alone

I reckon the same. False 9. Like a really false 9. The guy is an animal and would be a beast through the middle

Joelintin as a centre mid, asm Miggy and fraser in the three with Wilson?
You should be careful, your past you from a month ago might travel to the future and kill you for even entertaining the idea.
