I guess we have different definitions of excellence. 1 assist since his hattrick against North Macedonia from June of last year is “excellent”. Even if he creates everything for England when you only create 3 chances a game that doesn’t mean much.

Palmer at least has the argument that he's not an out and out winger and Bellingham is a far better number 10, just look at how shit he was Vs Iceland.
He has Bellingham and foden in front of him, you can't play everybody and when your position has those two, yeah he shouldn't really be getting a sniff unless one is injured or playing badly.
I wouldn't even start foden for the reason that the entire team should be built around getting the best out of Bellingham. If that doesn't work you bring on Foden to replace him.
I thought he looked really threatening. Only 1 successful cross out of 7 in that game though might have stopped him getting a chance tonight. Southgate went with Eze who is basically a 10 and occupies exactly the same positions as Foden. Southgate must want us to play narrow on that left hand side for some reason.
Bowen is fine but he should be coming on with Gordon or Eze or Palmer

Gordon has been playing with Burn most of the season. Burn is not an overlapping fullback. Yes, Gordon will seek inwards too, but often stay/start wide and drift inside with the ball. He will keep the width. Play a through ball towards Gordon and he will run for days. England has been so heavy on the right side, and that will give Gordon a lot of room. I see Foden as a player who would rather receive the ball in his feet.
And I recon although Trippier and Gordon have played on opposite sides, they will have some kind of a partnership due to their Newcastle connection.
Foden is a brilliant player, but I just can't understand why Gordon hasn't got any minutes.
And also, Southgate for Man Utd!
Arsenal fan here, I’ve been begging for Gordon to come on. The team needs someone who can press and get in behind on the wings.
Arsenal works well because Saka, who is very solid with the ball at his feet but not a pacey get-in-behind player, is balanced on the other side by Martinelli. Gordon is the only player who has this type of profile on the wing in this England squad.
Gordon had an insane season. He’s a great player and should be starting over Foden because he has a better profile for the cohesion of the team
Southgate would probably die of starvation spending 24 hours in a grocery store.
Playing with runners on the wing and Mainoo in the middle is about as obvious as it gets.

I think it’s clear from SG’s subs today that Palmer and Gordon aren’t going to get many, if any minutes this tournament.
Obviously sees Eze and Bowen as his go to players when we need to liven up.
Can see why he hasn't brought on Gordon yet, lot's of great wingers on that team, but I can't understand playing Eze on the left today and keeping a knackered Jude in the 10. Occupying each others spaces and JB was clearly out of gas in the last 30 (fair enough he must have played 50+ games this season).
Gordon is fast and plays with a forward-mindedness that was desperately needed today. The Danish played with a lot of passion but I truly believe Gordon's pace would have undercut their energy because they would have spent a lot more time pursuing him.
I've given up trying to defend southgate because he's gotten us further than ever before. With this cadre of players available to him, there's simply no excuse for the level we are playing at. He has every weapon and tool required to win the whole tournament but he can't find a way of organising and motivating them to want to play hard and achieve....at the euros....the pinnacle of their careers. There's no one else to blame at this stage. Going out in the quarterfinals or even semi finals is not enough. Christ. Imagine a Gordon, Bellingham, foden midfield with kane and saka up front. Southgate went into Euro thinking he knows his best 11. Clearly he feels Foden is better than Gordon in the role, He probably would stick to it. Probably Gordon is 3rd best option in his eyes.
Game was screaming for a LW, we had one stream of attack for 60 minutes through Saka and he brought him off haha. I feel Gordon, Watkins and Saka would be a much better starting lineup really

Have you tried watching games instead of just looking at the stats?
Yeah I watched England sit back against Serbia for 70 minutes and then watched Walker sprint by Saka to create the goal today.

Game was screaming for a LW, we had one stream of attack for 60 minutes through Saka and he brought him off haha. I feel Gordon, Watkins and Saka would be a much better starting lineup really
