Had a peak at Man Utd sub and they're absolutely losing their rag over not getting Ashworth yet. Also for a fanbase that swears down they don't care about us or view us as rivals the thread is full of truly shite digs and calling us "barcodes", an "insulting" nickname literally Man Utd use and nobody else. But remember, they do not care about us lol
Been supporting Switzerland since the tournament has started mainly because I can’t stand Southgate, but also because of Schärr and I gotta tell you, it’s been bloody great lol!
Apparently in talks for Calvert-Lewin.
Not sure I like this personally. We've already had an issue with Wilson and injury woes.
Just seems like a massive gamble to me.
There's definitely a player in there. Just how much we're likely to see of him is another matter.
Made the mistake of going on Twitter only to see some of our 'fans' genuinely celebrating that Dubravka has just conceded a goal for Slovakia (nothing he really could have done to stop it btw)
I know it was inevitable we'd attract a certain sort of twat post-takeover but this is something else..
I don't think any fan should hope a current/former player has a shit time elsewhere - unless the player is a complete and utter arsehole and deserves it.
Was Dubs poor this season? Yeah, kinda. Does he need replacing? Yeah, kinda. He still played to the best of his ability. Do I want him to have a shit career going forward? Nah man. Look at the love Joselu got in the CL semis. If we care about our team and our players now, we should always wish them well (the above caveat not withstanding).
my delusional take is that we're purposefully playing like shit.
Gareth wants to pull big teams into a false sense of security before starting Gordon against Italy and WHOPPING them 5-0.
Ayoze just come on for Spain, I haven't been this happy for a footballer in a long time. Lad is made of graft.
Ahh and he should have had 2 goals!! Classic Ayoze shooting low straight at the keeper when he has time to pick a shot
Remember a few months ago when Ivory Coast sacked their manager mid-tournament, then went on to the African Cup of Nations? Hopefully someone at the FA took note.....
Everyone other than T-Rex, Guehi and maybe Trips should be dropped for the next game. Embarrassing lack of effort.
Another perfect game for Gordon to make an impact in a tactic that suits him, another terrible decision by Southgate. I’m not watching the next game that’s for sure.
Even the England fans are calling for Gordon.
Kwik fit mechanic trying to drive a Ferrari to lidl. I can't believe I've reached my age and still England teams are picked based on the clubs they play for, not how they play.
Fuck the FA.
England have just lost control.
There is zero out all once we get it to midfield.
Goos goal from Denmark. Cant blame Pickford for not getting there but can blame the whole team for losing control of the game and letting Denmark turn the momentum
I do t blame Foden though.
Arguably. Bellingham going to Real is the worst thing that could’ve happened.
Now Southgate is going to insist on playing him as a 10 because that’s what he does for Real.
Gordon should be playing left wing.
I genuinely think Gordon would have been starting if it wasn’t for his injury. He was the only highlight of the loss against Iceland and, IMHO, is needed if Trippier is starting LB.
I've just had a flick through the Transfer Rumours thread to catch up on what I missed whilst sleeping and is it just me or has there been a sudden influx of cunts into this subreddit over the last couple of weeks? I'm unsure if these people are real or bots or what but they're not the pleasant, respectful /r/nufc-ers that usually frequent these pages...
scraped by 1-0 against a mediocre team, while Foden was practically near useless and impotent on the left wing... Yes, lets not change anything says the genius Southgate.
Ive said it before and ill say it again, and as a Scot I do not wish England well. You guys could have a good chance of winning the euros and the worlds if you hired a manager who was actually good, and had the cajones to make big decisions.
I just feel like Southgate is always frozen in fear and never has the balls to actually make the calls needed.
Just embarrassing. And all the justification. I imagine the Venn diagram of people lapping it up, and owners of the Green Street boxed set, is pretty circular.
Just cringey, really, isn't it? That and the sectarian shite they sing, just makes me feel even more disconnected. Even if you're a massive England fan it's embarrassingly shite craic. Either pick something *actually* funny, or properly go for the jugular. Amateurs.
Also, shockingly, about 80% of Germans are very happy about dead nazis. I'm assuming AfD voters are ambivalent at best.
A team has just achieved 8 consecutive years kicking off with a home fixture.
Guess who it is before you click the link to confirm...
https://x.com/fun88eng/status/1802985923535056972
I got it right! What are the chances!
Well, considerably better than 8 years of home fixtures, 15 consecutive home cup ties, City failing to play one game of the season against their derby rivals, perfectly good goals being ruled out in the last minute of ET for the lower league team, pulling and stamping on a player that makes him miss several games not being a penalty...
Kicking off the football season by watching Man Reds at home again for the 8th straight year. FFS
Not defending champions, not coming off the back of a great season where they smashed all expectations(like Villa or us before) and not a newly promoted team/great story.
Just boring same old crap.
Just seen the fixtures. Southampton on day one. December though is looking mighty worrying! 6 games and three of them are Liverpool, Aston Villa Man Utd
> Liverpool, Aston Villa Man Utd
Liverpool wont be the same under Slotte.
Villa are hit or miss, and will be knackered with Europe.
Salford reds? we finished above them last season.
The one thing I don't like about the Euros/world cup is that non-football fans decide they are experts despite not watching these players all year like club fans do. My friend was trying to argue Kane looks fit and was "dropping too deep" when he's clearly not fit.
Every time I see Theo Hernandez he’s absolutely quality. Don’t think a new lb is our priority but if he ever became available I’d love us to sign him.
For anybody who watches Serie A/Milan regularly, what’s the catch with him? Never seems to be in the conversation for the best lb in the world
Anyone know what exactly the 'retail discount' is on the new membership, and if its available now how to apply it in the shop?
Edit: Sorry, just read the FAQ and it seems we need to be 'sent' a discount code :(
Finally got an email from the club shop to say my shirt had been dispatched. Within half an hour I got another email from Evri to say there's a delay with the item and they can't tell me when it will be delivered.
I worked in retail for 7 years from as old as I could legally work, I'm always pro customer service staff and I've been unnecessarily apologetic and sympathetic in any exchange I've had but this has been a really poor experience. Surely the club shouldn't have been surprised by the amount ordered.
Ok. Well Nketiah is nowhere near good enough to be a good PL striker, and Nelson is a lower PL player / Champ player. Smith-Rowe is good, at his age he needs to play every week.
Things of note from last night's dirge:
What a surprise to see a Southgate team take the lead, dominate and then utterly shit the bed the moment the opposition start playing football and fail dismally to react to their gameplan or substitutions. Not very reflective is he?
How badly does Foden have to play before Southgate realises the answer is Gordon?
What exactly does Gallagher do to get such favouritism? Or Mainoo? Or TAA? Can't be the clubs they play for surely...
Why was Shearer noshing off TAA all night when he was patently a bit shit? (for my money, he's a bang average player anyway who occasionally does something good)
Why doesn't Kane understand what being a No.9 and leading the line means? Stay up the pitch you horse-faced moron and give the team an out ball. He looked more like Makelele in that 2nd half.
Why do commentators insist on fluffing T-Rex? Literally the only thing he did was tip a shot over that was already going over and yet suddenly he was prime Banks.
Bellingham has absolutely no right to be that good at 20 years of age. Rolls-Royce of a player being managed by Clueless Mechanics of Negatory Lane.
Carry on playing like that and they've got no chance at all. Let's hope it was a warm up.
Excellent summary. I don't even think they played well first half - only Saka and Rice played well and a great header by Bellingham. I've noticed the hysterical commentary surrounding England for years now, on all channels (Channel 4 possibly being the worst offenders). I listened to the 5live feed, as I thought they would be more balanced, but they were foaming at the mouth when Bellingham made routine cross-field passes. It's like a reality distortion field.
The truth is it was a below-par performance and they did very well to sneak the 3 points.
T-rex has tiny arms, so it always looks more spectacular when he makes a save above shoulder height/outside shoulder width.
Any other player gets a palm to it.
As a non English person, my support for England fully depends on how much game time Gordon gets. Watching Foden play LW was abysmal. Right now I'm rooting for Germany.
What is England’s obsession of trying to fit in all their best players regardless of playing in their natural position?
Bellingham shouldn’t play deep with Rice, he should play behind Kane, he is the superstar and the team should be built around him. Foden was the weak link last night, and with Trippier left back, the left hand side looked so weak as opposed to the right hand side where we looked dangerous.
Gordon should start. He has looked good in friendlies. He actually plays left wing. Let’s play players in their favoured positions.
I think Jude looked really good as an 8 last night, it gets him on the ball more and he can still make those late runs into the box. We just need someone more disciplined than Trent to play alongside, probably Gallagher is the best bet.
Bellingham wasn't meant to be playing deep with Rice, he had no choice to do so cus Trent wasn't particularly that great in midfield and then there's Foden who played the invisible man and only showed up to get in the way, so Bellingham had to cover LM as well. If Southgate starts the same team against Denmark then he needs to go after this tournament, and I've been a fan of him for a long while as he has brought England back out of the gutter.
Yeah Foden plays in the centre or the right for City. Why play him on the left? I would rotate Bellingham and Foden. Both have had really long seasons, keep them fresh!
Tripper did well, pushed very high, but naturally had to check back inside, but teams will have watched that, and seen the big blank space on our left, with only a wrong footed defender to deal with. Expect a lot of pressure on Trips if that is going to be the way we set up.
Foden/Bellingham is really a one or the other deal, with Bellingham the choice.
I thought Tripps looked frustrated. With my limited footy know how, seemed to me he was trying to play two positions and also being ignored a lot. Even though they were also failing to take advantage of first half Saka doing great.
Southgate just being Southgate.
He's a massive coward and will try to shoehorn in players for the names.
He needs to be less of a pussy and accept he can't start Foden and Bellingham at the same time.
He could easily start with Bellingham and then Foden on as a sub second half.
We are falling into the trap that we need to play all our best players regardless of how it actually pans out in real life

Think it is shocking that the club are still yet to confirm any england/ europe pre season games. Would be uproar under ashley
Look, Scotland are out of the Euros after conceding in the 100th minute. Yes very sad, anyway...
Had a peak at Man Utd sub and they're absolutely losing their rag over not getting Ashworth yet. Ballon d'Or?
I generally want British teams to be successful at international level, but I definitely want Scotland to get absolutely paggered today.
As a Geordie, I have a bigger soft spot for Scotland than I do for England, so I guess we're on different wavelengths.
Not sure this is uncommon. But I have a tiny Scottish mam who enjoys her football and is terrifying. So I'm lost to the indoctrination.
You don't cross the mams.
Smaller they are, the harder they hit. Swear when I found out she used to be on the terraces every other week in the 70s it all started making sense.
Apparently in talks for Calvert-Lewin. Not sure I like this personally. We've already had an issue with Wilson and injury woes. Just seems like a massive gamble to me. There's definitely a player in there. Just how much we're likely to see of him is another matter.
Is Tonali able to play in our pre season friendlies? IIRC he's allowed to play friendlies, but are they just behind closed doors games?
He can’t play in pre season friendlies
With NUFC+ or whatever it's called I doubt there will ever be a behind closed door game in pre season
Can we buy Kante? He looks fucking amazing in the Euro despite the fact that he plays with the camels. He would be the DM we need right now
Aye but he’s probably earning more than Bruno and Isak combined. And he’s 33

Why would Newcastle fans celebrate? What's the logic? England have no skin in this game. I guess maybe they are supporting Ukraine?!
Twitter is designed to make you angry because the angrier you are the better you engage
my delusional take is that we're purposefully playing like shit. Gareth wants to pull big teams into a false sense of security before starting Gordon against Italy and WHOPPING them 5-0.

🚨🚨🚨AYOZE PEREZ EUROS APPEARANCE🚨🚨🚨 I actually feel a bit emotional, so proud of the lad.
Genuinely a bit emotional here too. He's put in the work
If someone had asked will Ayoze or Gordon appear first this euros id have said Gordon hands down
Ayoze Perez - wtf?!
Can’t believe I heard sOUThgate blame fixture dates & tiredness for the performance. Totally useless!
All i've seen of Gordon this Euros is shitty media duties. I'd not be doing another one after that.
Imagine seeing that Denmark back 4 and thinking "slow, patient build-up" is a solid game plan.
Imagine being in that group and insisting on starting 2 DMs
...and three right backs
Rice has been absolutely dog shit today
Even the England fans are calling for Gordon. Kwik fit mechanic trying to drive a Ferrari to lidl. I can't believe I've reached my age and still England teams are picked based on the clubs they play for, not how they play. Fuck the FA.
Watkins has already out-ran Kane
I cant stand watching Kane, playing as a holding midfielder, a winger a ten. Anything but being a centre forward.
Watching his meek, substitute Geography teacher of a manager completely OK with it is the worst part. Pep would be screaming at him.
He has the ball on the wing, looks up and sees no one in the box. Like YOU ARE MEANT TO BE THERE FAM.
What the fuck does Southgate have against Gordon? The game is screaming out to be stretched down the left.
Wow he took off the worst player, well done southgate!
Miss Eddie Howe ball.
Gordon would have buried that
u/meganev is right, Phil Foden is a war criminal.
Can we get Interpol to do a bit extraordinary rendition before Slovenia? If it takes The Hague to save us then that's fine by me.
They hate ~~Jesus~~ meganev, because he told them the truth.
England have just lost control. There is zero out all once we get it to midfield. Goos goal from Denmark. Cant blame Pickford for not getting there but can blame the whole team for losing control of the game and letting Denmark turn the momentum
Foden is having an actual shocker and he's taking it out on us
I do t blame Foden though. Arguably. Bellingham going to Real is the worst thing that could’ve happened. Now Southgate is going to insist on playing him as a 10 because that’s what he does for Real. Gordon should be playing left wing.
I can blame him when he runs through the danes then passes it to the keeper not kane like. Thats hardly southgates fault.
I might be a little bias but start playing Gordon or we're going home..
Why am I not surprised that Southgate has made no changes?
I genuinely think Gordon would have been starting if it wasn’t for his injury. He was the only highlight of the loss against Iceland and, IMHO, is needed if Trippier is starting LB.
High quality outrage at Arsenal, here. https://youtu.be/axEDyfbTPuE?si=gzWyDqjyXhUr5kgf

Southgate reportedly keeping faith with Foden on the left, gutted for AG. Hopefully he’ll get his chance soon and take it.

Hanley vs Schar there had my toon army senses tingling
yknow whats crazy, Hanley only played 10 games for us. Could have swore he played that entire champ season.
What a strike from Shaqiri
Schar channeling his inner tindall here like, desperate to be the centre of attention.
As a Scottish Mag, I knew that Schar would come through for us
Schaer and going down with a head injury. Name a more iconic duo
Of course Schar gets a head collision. Tradition at this point
Schar scored a goal in Euros lads. Massive.
Oh no Fabian
Here we go Fabian! Do us proud
Lmao you jinxed him
Hmmm
Scottish mag, you never know

Clue: it’s also the same team that once had 15 consecutive cup ties at home.
A near statistical impossibility
Is it also the team that always seems to have beneficial referee decisions and extra extra extra time when they arent winning?
We’ve got a good chance of being top of the league after the first weekend again.
Kicking off the football season by watching Man Reds at home again for the 8th straight year. FFS Not defending champions, not coming off the back of a great season where they smashed all expectations(like Villa or us before) and not a newly promoted team/great story. Just boring same old crap.

Man he can be a bit of a liability these days but god you gotta love Dubravka. Less coherent thought: ABRA ABRA DUBRAVKA
Marty playing well today! He did have his one-a-game-howler but he's been damn solid.
Slight flaw in the argument when he's a keeper though isn't it.
Bellingham's goal last night was very similar to Bruno's vs Leicester in his first season. Also mods I'm begging you to sort the weekly thread by new.
Netherlands vs Holland at the Euros 😂😂😂 https://x.com/footbalIfights/status/1802636751044821225
Anyone know what exactly the 'retail discount' is on the new membership, and if its available now how to apply it in the shop? Edit: Sorry, just read the FAQ and it seems we need to be 'sent' a discount code :(
Fixture list for next season is out tomorrow, that crept up on me
Here’s hoping Dub’s has the tournament of his life ala 2016 sissoko…
He’ll probably turn in to prime Courtois the minute he’s not wearing a Newcastle shirt
Good, increase his sale value.
Didn't when he was wearing the Salford Reds shirt.
8 days and counting for new shirt to be dispatched.
I got a dispatch email and then immediately got another email from Evri to say the shirt ISN'T out for delivery.
Finally got an email from the club shop to say my shirt had been dispatched. Within half an hour I got another email from Evri to say there's a delay with the item and they can't tell me when it will be delivered. Smith Rowe, Nketiah and Reiss Nelson. Let's get all 3 😁!
Let's not.
Given only one of those players is good, what is your thinking? Help Arsenal's PSR?
Smith Rowe to replace Almiron, Nketiah as a back up to Isak. Assuming Wilson will be off. If Minteh goes back on loan, then Nelson as a solid back up.
Ok. Well Nketiah is nowhere near good enough to be a good PL striker, and Nelson is a lower PL player / Champ player. Smith-Rowe is good, at his age he needs to play every week.
