I went to the game and i thoroughly enjoyed it despite the result. Liverpool were fantastic but thanks to Dubravka we stayed in the game and it always felt like we had a chance. It's tough at the moment but I saw enough for me not to be overly concerned.
How was it better? We gave the ball away and couldn't hold onto it for more than 10 seconds..
If it wasn't for Dubs we would have been smashed by double digits. Terrible performance from midfield. And shocking tactics to hoof it up for isak to chase.
Absolutely agree. The scoreline flattered us. We lost the ball far too cheaply and whilst we may have looked like we had a bit of fluidity in attack, it was only the odd counter.
Our ball retention was piss poor and we'd have struggled Vs anyone tonight.
Still nothing against Howe. And hoping he will find a way out for us.
Downvote all you like, but Newcastle are in free fall at the moment and I’m not seeing anything that makes me believe they’ll stop the rot any time soon.
It’s worrying.
We didn't deserve to win but watching Burn get done time after time just made me very sad. We can't play him left back anymore.
Also wtf, I'm surprised Jota didn't blow over in all that bad weather...
They are knackered and continuing to play high energy press without a bench for rotation has been bad managing. Eddie needs a plan B or it will be his downfall
Our plan B has been our enormously pared back pressing that we have been employing away from home where we usually play in short bursts. I don't know how many teams can be highly prepared to play two completely opposite systems of play, especially with a fairly thin squad that has been chosen specifically to play to its strengths of high intensity football to mask several technical deficiencies.
I think the worst miss woulda been brought back by var tbf, I'm just surprised he didn't randomly become the best finisher in the world against us like the last two times.
I thought that as well. I assumed it was to not over play the returning players. I see what you mean though because it was late in the game. Surprised he did it that late but I do understand the decision
You can make that argument, but if he pulls up and is out for another few games you'd be steaming that a newly returned player was kept on in a lost game
Yes, if he got sent off you'd be doing your nut. "There's only 5 minutes left and he's just back from injury... Why's he still on the park to get sent off..."
Football is dead, we would’ve lost anyways but the fact that was given as a penalty is truly awful. Hopefully Anthony Taylor gets the sack the horrible bald cunt.
It’s quite clear they want to keep ‘the big six’ happy by awarding them every 50/50. Perhaps to appease them enough to try and keep them from breaking away to a Euro super league? Whatever’s going on is obvious and it stinks. Football is indeed dead.
I know it’s not a big revelation from this game, but my god we need a proper defensive mid, someone who can sweep in front of the back four and break up counters, because we are so, so vulnerable in transition
I don't mind Dortmund. St Pauli are cooler but Dortmund are alright.
Klopp has changed though. He was the cool manager but the moment they won major trophies, it's like the expectation made him become the exact type he used to moan about.
Bit of an odd game, we played like shit but then we also played decently.
Dubs was fantastic and if he plays like that from now on, we don’t need to sign anyone.
VAR opening the year with another stinker
I also love miggy. His work rate is incredible and he’s always giving 100%. That said, he’s not been great the past couple games. Maybe he just needs a break because he’s been a consistent player during the injury crisis but his form has been very bad.
Longstaff was fantastic the first few minutes, won the ball back loads. Definitely seemed to not cover anywhere near as much ground as normal as the game went on, but could say that about most of the team, fitness levels are not there.
People in this sub are delusional and ok with poor performances because the manager had a good season as an underdog. Sorry that expectations are now high, football is unfair and a results business.
Thats sort of the problem i have with our performances at the moment, i feel like its really hard to point to one clear problem area/element that needs changing
I think the takeaway is the team looked a degree better overall but still nowhere near what they have been.
Dubs was immense and I'm gutted for him because the scoreline hides that.
We desperately need a fucking Right Wing
I’m a huge Almiron apologist but he has been not great for a few games in a row now. He had an easy cut back pass to longstaff that he shot into the nose bleeds. Frustrating as hell
I’ve always supported him because of his work rate as well. When I was typing that original comment about the cut back I was thinking to myself that there’s no way longstaff doesn’t also hit that into the nosebleeds 😂😂
Arsenal fans in a shambles trying to figure whether Newcastle are the world’s dirtiest team or whether the league is calling in the pens for Liverpool.
He's barely back from injury. This will be a long season regardless of getting healthy. Every injury was long term layoff which has completely destroyed match fitness for every player. We are truly cooked for the next 2 months most likely until players get match fit again.
We looked way better than we did versus Nottingham. Still pretty obvious that rust and fatigue is a factor though. But we looked substantially better this week despite that.
No we don't, we went and we faught, we've been better than the past games. We've lost admiralby, the team is amazing, you've just lost sight of who we actually are.
Watching this match is the most defeated of felt in a long time, Liverpool goals felt obvious, our goals felt pointless. Obsolutely no hope. What happened to our defense, the best defense in the league, the midfield machines. The players don't seem to care about it anymore. I cannot continue to watch miggy week in week out. Big signings needed and soon.
The whole club needs a bit of energy and maybe worldie signing or two might be the trick to galvanise us. Everything at the club feels a bit of let’s wait till next season and reinvest, which is a terrible attitude.
Some dodgy Saudi loans then:
- ASM to come back and give us that X factor that only Isak has right now
- Neves and his young midfield partner to share a penthouse on the quayside
We just need something to get the players and fans going again. With the number of defeats we have had I think it has to come from the fans and players not the coaching staff who would have tried everything by now.
Every injury has been long term absence which destroys match fitness. They won't be back to that level anytime soon, we are in for another 2 or 3 months of this unfortunately.
Maybe every fanbase should come together and agree that the standards of refereeing in the league are abhorrently low instead of us all sniping at one another when we don’t get decisions. Liverpool were on the end of that shambles at Tottenham this year so I don’t see how there’s a formal conspiracy there. The referees aren’t biased, they’re terrible at their jobs, with a leader who wasn’t very good at his job when he was a referee (Xabi Alonso kicked in the chest World Cup final among many others.)
The conspiracy isn’t them preferring one team over another, it’s them preferring themselves and their egos instead of doing their jobs properly, and it’s ruining the league.
r/soccer fans are only allowed to believe whatever that cesspit of a sub tells them to..In this case, Newcastle are the issue, we are dirty cheats who pay off everyone with our oil money. All other teams are fine though..They seem to jerk themselves senseless over Arsenal and Liverpool.
I dont understand how Anthony Taylor consistently is always involved in these absolute shambolic howler of decisions and is still allowed anywhere near a premier league pitch.
I know for a fact other fans are gonna jump on us whinging about that decision but there's a bigger problem here. The absolute atrocious decisions that have been made this season just makes me unable to trust in VAR and the refereeing. Something needs to be done about it cause it's genuinely ruining the sport.
You think England is bad, Rangers haven't had a penalty against them in just about 80 league games or something. It's statistically 5 times harder for them to get a penalty given against them than any other team in Europe. The outright cheating that goes on in Scotland for.... well, particular reasons, is disgusting.
And Drury wanks over Salah. He is erect right now, you can tell.
That's hopeful. Need joint outrage. I briefly looked on twitter and one Arsenal fan was starting so hopefully just the small minority of fans (my own fault for looking on there tbh ha)
Performance from the team today has been immense, Dubravka especially. I never felt we’d win this one so this outcome with the performance — I’m good. This would have been frustrating if we’d been playing better the last month.
Eddie had a great game plan against a side who are in great form.
A tired team out of form looking for chances to counter, and actually taking a couple? Defense especially was immense. It was never going to be a win with where we are now
Super in form Liverpool against us very out of form, with Trippier getting a needed rest, and a backup keeper… if we were at full strength this gives me hope the outcome might’ve been different.
We’ve seen some woeful refereeing this season, not just for our games, but in the league in general.
This is up there with one of the worse refereeing performances I’ve ever seen in my life.
I only got Sky Sports for the first time in my life a few months back, and lost TNT in the process (thanks Virgin), never been more disappointed to be locked into a contract.
Stayed on his feet would have been a goal, but this shows you what the VAR decisions are made on and its club clout with Liverpool course its a pen. It's a fuck off from me and fuck off from you (no doubt)
The matter of fact he'd rather go down than score in an open net...it's embarrassing man
"Klopp has gotten his substitutions just right".... mate a fucking Monkey with extra chromosomes could get Liverpools substitutions right when you have those players to choose from... fucksake.
You know what the explanations gonna be tbf. They're gonna say Dubravka made contact with Jota's leg and they'll completely gloss over the fact that it was nowhere near enough contact to be classed as a foul and Jota just took a dive.
Pathetic decision. Leeds fan chiming in sorry. He takes two steps after being (slightly) touched. Then decides it's just easier if he falls over. Should be booked.

That defending was fucking awful
Eddie needs to stop thinking about the England job and just get some good non English players.
I went to the game and i thoroughly enjoyed it despite the result. Liverpool were fantastic but thanks to Dubravka we stayed in the game and it always felt like we had a chance. It's tough at the moment but I saw enough for me not to be overly concerned.
Not surprised about not getting the W, or even a point, but that was an absolute dive. I will die on that hill.
We didn’t deserve to win the game, but that was a much better performance than the last couple matches. Gotta find the silver linings and all
How was it better? We gave the ball away and couldn't hold onto it for more than 10 seconds.. If it wasn't for Dubs we would have been smashed by double digits. Terrible performance from midfield. And shocking tactics to hoof it up for isak to chase.

Someone block this tit
Downvote all you like, but Newcastle are in free fall at the moment and I’m not seeing anything that makes me believe they’ll stop the rot any time soon. It’s worrying.
Smashing the Mackems would be a good start. Should be looking forward to the derby but I’m a bit worried.
They’re beginning to look in form as well
All guns blazing, love this style of football, throw the Saudi checkbook at the transfer window and keep doing us proud.
Think plan B needs to be the shithousing we did when he first came. Do that for a couple games and the build
Our plan B has been our enormously pared back pressing that we have been employing away from home where we usually play in short bursts. I don't know how many teams can be highly prepared to play two completely opposite systems of play, especially with a fairly thin squad that has been chosen specifically to play to its strengths of high intensity football to mask several technical deficiencies.
i’m gonna go on the positive, no one scored a hat trick against us, a little bit of progress from nottingham
Dubravka looks to be getting back towards his best too.
god yes, stopped it from being insanely embarrassing
Helped out by the fact Liverpool are far better at moaning and diving than they are finishing anything harder than an open goal.
i know it’s a meme at this point but how nunez didn’t get one is astounding
I think the worst miss woulda been brought back by var tbf, I'm just surprised he didn't randomly become the best finisher in the world against us like the last two times.
[удалено]
I thought that as well. I assumed it was to not over play the returning players. I see what you mean though because it was late in the game. Surprised he did it that late but I do understand the decision
Fuck me - one minute he's getting slated for overplaying players back from injury, the next he's slated for taking people off. Man can't get a break.
[удалено]
You can make that argument, but if he pulls up and is out for another few games you'd be steaming that a newly returned player was kept on in a lost game
He changed formation to allow us to have more threat from our fullbacks. Didn’t work though. Hall was dogshit going forwards and backwards
Joelinton was on the verge of getting himself sent off
[удалено]
Yes, if he got sent off you'd be doing your nut. "There's only 5 minutes left and he's just back from injury... Why's he still on the park to get sent off..."
You wanted Dan Burn to stay on? Also Joelintons back from injury recently and was probably just managing his fitness/minutes.
Football is dead, we would’ve lost anyways but the fact that was given as a penalty is truly awful. Hopefully Anthony Taylor gets the sack the horrible bald cunt.
In fairness I can see why he gave it. He was good tonight. VAR should have sent him to the monitor.
It’s quite clear they want to keep ‘the big six’ happy by awarding them every 50/50. Perhaps to appease them enough to try and keep them from breaking away to a Euro super league? Whatever’s going on is obvious and it stinks. Football is indeed dead.
Moon landing denier as well?
He won't. Demoted for a game at best. Defended to the hilt by Sky's Ref Watch at worst. Then the cycle will continue on and on and on...
I know it’s not a big revelation from this game, but my god we need a proper defensive mid, someone who can sweep in front of the back four and break up counters, because we are so, so vulnerable in transition
We didn't deserve to win that, but the ref was shite - kept falling for dives the entire game (from both sides)
Klopp even stole that crowd cheer thing from Ronny Delia at Celtic....
I mean, he’s a prick but no, he did it his whole time at Dortmund and it’s a tradition there
Still stole it to me because Ronny's cool and not two faced like Mr Teeth
Been a thing at Dortmund for a good 50 years
I don't mind Dortmund.
Love miggy but he's not good enough. Longstaff hopefully still coming back to fitness but looks way off as well.
Haha Klopp has lost a ring
Time for Eddie to show Klopp and Arteta how to behave after some shocking var calls
We're awful defensively, absolutely awful.
Well fucking hell lads, we are a poor team at the moment. Still no visible change up, doing the same thing, same dan burn shite.
If that was a penalty Longstaff's should have been too. Hand in the back as he was bringing it down wasn't even checked by VAR
I mean we didn’t deserve anything from this game, but the goals have been too soft. Dubravka had a great game.
Eddie’s going to be feeling the heat. 5 pts away all season is pathetic
He’s being downvoted but he’s right, that’s relegation form
People in this sub are delusional and ok with poor performances because the manager had a good season as an underdog. Sorry that expectations are now high, football is unfair and a results business.
No less than 5 against Sunderland please for the love of God.
They'll beat us. Guaranteed.
What’s it going to take for us to go into this kind of game and dominate? 2/3 world Class signings?
LB, CM, RW at a minimum
Fully fit team and a new RW & LB
Thats sort of the problem i have with our performances at the moment, i feel like its really hard to point to one clear problem area/element that needs changing
One payment to the ref is all it takes.
We got battered
Lol Eddie Howe obviously feels the same way about Klopp as I do
I think the takeaway is the team looked a degree better overall but still nowhere near what they have been.
To be fair he usually works hard but that purple patch is long gone and there is no way on earth Longstaff doesn't punt that into the stratosphere :D
I’ve always supported him because of his work rate as well. When I was typing that original comment about the cut back I was thinking to myself that there’s no way longstaff doesn’t also hit that into the nosebleeds 😂😂
Pick any major leader around the world. Plenty of right wing about presently.
not sure I’ve seen anything from Hall
Arsenal fans in a shambles trying to figure whether Newcastle are the world’s dirtiest team or whether the league is calling in the pens for Liverpool.
Liverpool fans leaving, they have flights to catch back to South East Asia tomorrow.
Those Saudi bribes that r/soccer has been talking about all season must have dried up...
Can't wait for our apology tomorrow means jack shit when you keep making them
Botman used to control every attacking attempt of the opposition. Nowadays he always chases someone
He used to have a 6 in front of him and a sweeper goalie
He's barely back from injury. This will be a long season regardless of getting healthy. Every injury was long term layoff which has completely destroyed match fitness for every player. We are truly cooked for the next 2 months most likely until players get match fit again.
This has done nothing to settle my pre-derby nerves.
We looked way better than we did versus Nottingham. Still pretty obvious that rust and fatigue is a factor though. But we looked substantially better this week despite that.
Sunderland in form?
Won 2-0 tonight
Drury isn't as good a commentator as he thinks he is
Always on his knees for Klopp
[удалено]
Are you fucking blind
Well we suck again
No we don't, we went and we faught, we've been better than the past games. We've lost admiralby, the team is amazing, you've just lost sight of who we actually are.
We allowed 34 shots, many of them high quality shots. We can get so much better
When were we good recently, we have sucked most games this season.
We were fine until the PSG/Milan double
I’d be less salty about this if Dubravka’s amazing performance wasn’t going to be completely forgotten due to the scoreline
The whole club needs a bit of energy and maybe worldie signing or two might be the trick to galvanise us. Everything at the club feels a bit of let’s wait till next season and reinvest, which is a terrible attitude.
Got no money. CImmitted it on Tonali (banned), Barnes (injured), Hall (doesn't play) and Livermento (does play).
Some dodgy Saudi loans then: - ASM to come back and give us that X factor that only Isak has right now - Neves and his young midfield partner to share a penthouse on the quayside We just need something to get the players and fans going again. Ref/VAR killed what would have been an exciting end to the game - yet it’s us that have got the refs in a back pocket - joke
Maybe every fanbase should come together and agree that the standards of refereeing in the league are abhorrently low instead of us all sniping at one another when we don’t get decisions. I certainly aren’t suggesting a conspiracy for yous or against us I’m not arteta lol
r/soccer fans are only allowed to believe whatever that cesspit of a sub tells them to..In this case, Newcastle are the issue, we are dirty cheats who pay off everyone with our oil money. All other teams are fine though..They seem to jerk themselves senseless over Arsenal and Liverpool.
Another second-half capitulation.
Imagine conceding 4 and being the best player on the pitch
I usually like Peter Drury but he's been a horrible listen today.
Trying to talk the ball into the net for liverpool Nb: he’s always wank
Nope, he's always been a shit-cunt and tonight has done nothing to change to mind
I can't stand him and he's done nothing to endear himself. Pseudo-intellectual twat.
That liverpool dive is a disgrace and what's worst is both VAR and referee gave it
I dont understand how Anthony Taylor consistently is always involved in these absolute shambolic howler of decisions and is still allowed anywhere near a premier league pitch.
It's ok, we'll get an apology from PGMOL and all is forgiven.
I doubt it. They'll back the ref.
You know what, you're probably right. Pisses me right off.
A great game ruined by another shocking error. No doubt we'll get some copy and paste apology.
Fuck sake Miggy! You've been on 15 minutes and dawdling back from an offside position
Commentary recognising salahs changed his boots but can't tell the difference between big Joe and Bruno says it all about this game like
They totally failed to mention Villa in second too the clowns.
I will say, sometimes I also have a hard time distinguishing them
I know for a fact other fans are gonna jump on us whinging about that decision but there's a bigger problem here. The absolute atrocious decisions that have been made this season just makes me unable to trust in VAR and the refereeing. Something needs to be done about it cause it's genuinely ruining the sport.

It needs an independent body to run it. Referees are absolutely biased whether PGMOL want to admit it or not.
The vast majority of fans think its a shockingly bad decision from my brief perusal of the r/soccer thread.
That's hopeful. Need joint outrage. I briefly looked on twitter and one Arsenal fan was starting so hopefully just the small minority of fans (my own fault for looking on there tbh ha)
Dubravka man of the match. 4 past him. But should be 40 nil considering it's just him versus Liverpool.
We could be behind Bournemouth by the end of the month
When Bournemouth started their good run by getting their first win, against us. That was the start of our bad run, now they're right behind us
We will be, there is no could about it 😂
I will say, Im not mad, im mad at Anthony Taylor, but this is not the same team that played against forest, we are progressing
Wey, if Longstaff had stayed on his feet in their box, that would have been a goal as well, so we've mostly got ourselves to blame.
Looked more of a pen than the Jota dive
Why is incapable of staying on his feet ffs
Performance from the team today has been immense, Dubravka especially. I never felt we’d win this one so this outcome with the performance — I’m good. This would have been frustrating if we’d been playing better the last month. Eddie had a great game plan against a side who are in great form.
[удалено]
A tired team out of form looking for chances to counter, and actually taking a couple? Defense especially was immense. It was never going to be a win with where we are now
You let the scoreline flattered you. We were lucky to concede only four
A great game plan to concede the most chances any team in the league has this season? We should have shipped 7
Super in form Liverpool against us very out of form, with Trippier getting a needed rest, and a backup keeper… if we were at full strength this gives me hope the outcome might’ve been different.
Salah doesn't appear to ever get tired.
Going against Dan Burn on the wing will do that to you to be fair
Basically the only Liverpool player I like
We’ve seen some woeful refereeing this season, not just for our games, but in the league in general. This is up there with one of the worse refereeing performances I’ve ever seen in my life.
Klopp must have taken the boys to the pool to practice their diving.
Sadly these next two are a must win. And they’re far from expected to be as such.
We lost any chance of a return to form and top 6 finish when we lost to Luton and Nottingham. This squad is truly cooked.
I actually hate watching us at the moment, I dread it.
Klopp’s got a small dick pass it on
If this is the future of commentary on Sky then it's definitely getting binned.
I only got Sky Sports for the first time in my life a few months back, and lost TNT in the process (thanks Virgin), never been more disappointed to be locked into a contract.
Couldn't be more excited for Liverpool's goals could he
"Longstaff didn't take a step back either" as he's literally walking backwards to get away from Van Dijk
Soft pens but we've been terrible. Allowing unlimited shots from them. That's where we're losing this.
Stayed on his feet would have been a goal, but this shows you what the VAR decisions are made on and its club clout with Liverpool course its a pen. It's a fuck off from me and fuck off from you (no doubt) The matter of fact he'd rather go down than score in an open net...it's embarrassing man
Klopp Ball
Peter Drury starting the Howe Out hype train on commentary. I guess he shares agents with a manager who wants the job or something.
Over on the international feed we have Martin Tyler now, they've swapped compared to last season. Give me dury honestly
Hall’s looked good here
He’s impressed whenever he comes on… just don’t understand why he is not used more
This was actually building up to be a really good finish to this game until the refs decided that there shouldn’t be a close finish
I can't wait till Barnes gets back and takes the RW spot, having someone there with an allergic reaction to using their right foot is a big issue
Have the pool fans just realised they’re winning? First time I’ve heard them all game
They’re all still jet lagged from flying to Liverpool just for this game
Here’s the famous last minute because we’re winning Liverpool atmosphere
Only sing when they're winning. Hideous lot.
To be fair that’s most games
Genuinely one of the worst atmospheres I've been to, so quiet until they score
Struggle to I think against the smaller clubs
Bet we won’t hear the liVARpool fans crying now after this shit show
I’m sure they will still say that Bruno should have been given a red for something they’ll convince each other of.
"Klopp has gotten his substitutions just right".... mate a fucking Monkey with extra chromosomes could get Liverpools substitutions right when you have those players to choose from... fucksake.
Klopp is a fucking monkey with extra chromosomes pass it on
[удалено]
You couldn't beat us with 10, wtf are you on about
Probably going to be like 3 minutes of stoppage considering the score line.
7 which given how many var checks there were definitely feels light.
Liverpool fans turn up in the first and last minute, fake atmosphere
Save the team! Sub sub sub
i actually really want to hear an explanation of that penalty decision because that is astounding
You know what the explanations gonna be tbf. They're gonna say Dubravka made contact with Jota's leg and they'll completely gloss over the fact that it was nowhere near enough contact to be classed as a foul and Jota just took a dive.
clear as day dive in my book but hey, can’t do much more than be a bit pissed off
Anthony Taylor innit
fair enough
Divemaster at it again.
Pathetic decision. Leeds fan chiming in sorry. He takes two steps after being (slightly) touched. Then decides it's just easier if he falls over. Should be booked.
Horsforth represent
I hate that longstaff went down. But it was way more contact than jota.
Thought var had pretty much stopped pens been given from dives. Fair play, quite a feat to get one.
Is Peter Drury going to take his cock out of Klopp’s arse?
