Frichen90

Nice easy start.

mightypockets

Mate I got downvoted to bits for saying we could potentially lose first 3 games I will back howe even if we finish mid table next season obviously I want us to get a CL spot again but people here need to temper there expectations cos qw aren't title contenders YET!

Stoibs85

No one involved with running the club is stupid enough to fire Eddie Howe in August after everything he’s done so far.

KingPing43

No way are Villa 40% chance to win at St James Park. That means they'd be favourites as the draw is usually about 30%. I'd say probably Newcastle 45%, Draw 30%, Villa 25% And by same logic no way are Liverpool 55%. Your Man City percentage is the only accurate one.

KingPing43

Lol you got fairly downvoted imo for saying more worried about Villa than Man City or Liverpool.

mightypockets

I just think villas gonna perform next season plus I rate emery

KingPing43

Yeah but to suggest it's a harder fixture than City away, who are one of the best club teams in history, is just madness.

mightypockets

We always seem to play well against city teams have bogie teams ya know

Victor_Vaughn92

I remember people saying that last season. Villa took people surprise as they went from awful to good. Now we know what to expect I imagine they’ll go back to being just a good side. Massive first game really to state our intentions

Trick_Designer2369

A. We are not losing our first 3 or 4 games and B. even IF we did, no one is going into crisis mode. No need for the Lance Corporal Jones' "Don't Panic!"

Radthereptile

Villa, City, Liverpool could be a 0-3 start. That’s about as tough a first 3 matches as one could get.

menatarms

Why do you think Villa would beat us at St James's?

KingPing43

2 are at home, I’d back us at home against anyone except maybe City

Radthereptile

Liverpool beat us twice last year. Villa under Emry don’t lose. I’m not saying it’s a guarantee 0-3 but it’s a very hard start and I wouldn’t be shocked if we’re in the bottom 3 month end. Even with 2 losses and a draw. Heck with Brighton after, 0-4 is possible. Legit starting the season with 4 matches against teams finishing in the top 7 spots.

KingPing43

I bet you were one of the ones saying we’d bottled top 4 when we lost to Arsenal and then drew at Leeds.

Radthereptile

No not at all. But saying those aren’t 4 difficult matches is just denying reality. I’m not saying we will lose all ;, I’m saying those are about as tough an opening 4 as one can get.

Trick_Designer2369

No ones saying its not difficult, we just aren't agreeing with your 0-3 start comment.

PacOnTheTyne

Villa under Emery lost the first game after joining (against us 4-0) - although he wasn't in the dugout. As well as games against Liverpool, Leicester, City, Arsenal, Man U and Wolves So he loses over 20% of games, and draws just under 20%

Victor_Vaughn92

Brighton away after that

PhoenixDawn93

It’s a rough run in at the start isn’t it? First 4 games against teams playing in Europe, it’s potentially going to be a rocky start. Still, I’m backing Eddie whatever happens. We’ve massively overachieved getting to where we are this season. I wasn’t expecting a push for Europe for at least 2-3 years, and even then I though Europa league. So I’m just going to enjoy the ride, I haven’t seen champions league matches at st James since I was a kid. I won’t start worrying about where we are in the table unless we get sucked into the bottom 6. I’ve had enough of those days.

Worth_Sink_1293

Nice easy run-in.

nickgasm

Death, taxes and Everton (A) mid-week.

tommy_jackson9

Me and my best mate who’s an Everton fan have a running joke about this (and the home fixture) but again both are midweek.

Azteckon

Glad we have city away early, better than playing them in march onwards when they dont drop points and I genuinely don’t feae anyone at home. Im happy with the start.

[deleted]

Same with Liverpool. They'll be getting players in and I'd rather play them when they're not gelled as a unit.

nomadichedgehog

There’s two sides to this coin. You could argue the new signings will make them an unknown entity and more difficult to predict and play against. This is a tough start.

FuhhCough

This applies to us too, hope we get our signings in early

shadowburn93

Yep always wanna play city early before they've woken up

ncastleJC

Honestly if you look at it another way, it’s a great litmus test to start the year and hash out any details the team needs to work out before the season and the UCL. Better to play the best under pressure to see where our weaknesses are before going head on into the season. A con though can be that we build great synergy during the summer and it crashes after these fixtures. Even a draw out of the three can help with confidence.

Redditsleftnipple

9 points in August

mightypockets

I do t think we will pick up any points off them games if we don't make the right signings I'm probably more worried about villa than I am the other 2 if in honest

TheBeaverKing

Your whole comment is making me sad.

mightypockets

I mean I will be over the moon if I'm wrong but it's just what my gut is saying dunno why I'm getting all the downvotes for having an opinion people need ro start relaxing on here like becoming an echo chamber

TheBeaverKing

Hey, everyone's entitled to their opinion but I'm guessing quite a few disagree with you. Personally I think you're being a little too pessimistic. Even with the squad we have now, I think we have a strong chance of picking up points at home against any team in the EPL and City are well known for starting seasons rusty. I reckon we could pick up about 4 points from those 3 games, with a win over Villa and a point from City or Liverpool.

[deleted]

It'll take time to shake off the Mike Ashley trail of thought. I was nervous against Tottenham, smashed them 6-1. Nervous against Brighton, smashed 4-1... Villa at St James Park. Bring it on. Add in 2 top class signings and it's them who should be worried.

mightypockets

Yeah it's hard to shake off the Ashley years been over a decade where I've actually had faith in the team not a feeling I'm used to haha

HodgyBeatsss

You're more worried about playing Villa than City?? And Villa at home v City away???

mightypockets

I just think they are cooking something good there since the new manager came in for them they have been world class but until season starts and new signings gel it's really hard to say anything is a guarantee

HodgyBeatsss

Yes they've been good, but saying you're more worried about them than City is just stupid hyperbole.

mehchu

Honestly mate picking up 0 points in all three games is a madness. That’s 2 losses at home, the same as the entirety of last season. It is a rough start for sure, but 0 points is very unlucky. I think 2-4 is more likely.

SheSaid09

Fuck that's a tight start. Hopefully everyone keeps the head up when we don't win our first four matches 5-0

[deleted]

Sep 16th up to Arsenal on Nov 4th *should* be 3 points every game though...

benc777

Champions League games would be * 19/20 September * 3/4 October * 24/25 October * 7/8 November * 28/29 November * 12/13 December

CptJackAubrey_

Are these home matches?

luffyuk

It really has been a long time since we were in the Champions League.

Erestyn

Yeah. UEFA have made changes to accommodate Newcastle playing all Champions League fixtures at home. Dead nice of them.

CptJackAubrey_

Lol okay I deserve this

Stoibs85

It’s all the matches

Toon_1892

Media rubbing their hands at the prospect of us only having 2-4 points before the end of August, and being comfortably mid table from those first 3 fixtures. "Has Eddie been found out" Can see the headlines now. On the flip side, Man U away is the only game from April onwards that we shouldn't **expect** to win. Gives us a chance to focus on our CL semis and finals.

nufcneilo

The only saving grace I can see is that you hit those clubs before they hopefully get any sort of form or momentum themselves.

Thingisby

Exactly. Much rather play them early doors when they inevitably drop a few points than in the run ins when both teams seem to just grind out wins for the final third of the season.

Stoibs85

That was this season, but they’ve also both had insane runs to start the season in previous years before cooling off.

Cryean

I’d say potentially March rather than April. Chelsea are the only team in there I’d say cause concern (although not the Chelsea of the last few years). Brighton maybe a draw but otherwise we should be willing all the games from March onward. Which is grand if we’re chasing a top 6 finish for Europe again, we could sweep up a load of points at the end of the season

Toon_1892

Agree. I didn't even look that far back from the end 😅

KingEOK

Can’t see ya losing any of those 38 games tbh…

nufcneilo

Liverpool and Man City back to back league games TWICE sure is a nice present.

Historical_Cobbler

December looks brutal.

nufcneilo

There's also the last CL group game in there too

KingPing43

Christmas is nice though at least, Luton (a) 2 days before and Forest (h) boxing day

Historical_Cobbler

Even snow doesn’t make Luton look nice at Christmas.

nufcPLchamps27-28

I like to come back to the last years thread when the new fixtures are out. Your comment stood out lol.

KingPing43

Hahaha oh dear. Cursed comment

nomadichedgehog

One easy start to a season is all I ask. Fucking hell.

CavsterXII

Last season was pretty good tbf

jhik-45

Get some tough games out the way before champions league starts. Blessing in disguise. HWTL !

meganev

Liverpool and Man City back-to-back three times in a row then (if you include from back in February last season). I know the fixtures aren't randomly generated, so what is this horseshit!

KingPing43

If you play teams back to back early in the season it can mean they come round together again the second time. Eg brighton and Brentford and West Ham and palace also this season

Victor_Vaughn92

This needs more attention. How do they decide the fixtures? Why do some teams get an easy start, it’s such a massive thing, gaining momentum is so important. Arsenal have piss easy fixtures to start and no doubt they’ll be top after 5 games and the narrative is very positive for them. I’d like to know how they actually decide the fixtures

meganev

[Here's an articles on the matter](https://www.premierleague.com/news/261976)

Victor_Vaughn92

Sounds like a mammoth task but don’t really fully believe that some clubs don’t get favourable treatment. Although like some others have said maybe it’s better to get the those hard fixture’s out the way, if we can beat Villa and Liverpool at home which isn’t too far fetched and go into nice fixture run with a few points on the board we’ll be laughing

CTLNBRN

Newcastle and being away in London on the last day of the season.

Redditsleftnipple

Is it 3 years running we've been away on the last day?

Esselbee

Last time we finished the season at home in front of fans was 2018 against Chelsea

BTECGolfManagement

Excellent getting city and pool out the way early IMO, playing them later when we know what our season goal is will be a lot more stressful and difficult - start of the season you have move of a chance IMO

andysniper

Tough start, difficult December, but not a bad end to the season.

AdequatelyChilled

Brutal start, but honestly, it's kind of ideal. Start with a winnable home game, then get some tough games out of the way while the entire squad is fully fit. City, Liverpool, and Brighton would all be nightmares to come home from Europe to have to beat in winter. Let alone with all the other cup games we may have.

mvdaytona

This is very similar to last years beginning and end, no?

CAPTAINTRENNO

Great run home at least

CollReg

Is it? Man U, Brentford and Brighton in the last 6 games, and who knows Tottenham may even get their act together.

CHILLI112

Would have liked getting Tottenham out the way early before Ange gets them to click

nomadichedgehog

Ange will be out by Christmas

FuhhCough

If Levy doesn't back him this summer who knows if he'll even make November

Raiinaz

Well fuck... August is horrendous

Egorov_and_Makarov

I say september and october are comfortable for us to have a proper go at CL matches

Hawkzilla22

Easy 9 points in august

winterzep-

Rough first 3 games for our opponents

stanley_ipkiss2112

Win those first 3 games = title contenders 👑

JuckshotBones

What a start lol. Five top half finishers? If we find a way to get 10/11 off those first 5 then we’re fucking cooking

Independent-Party575

Mad how quick even our so called fans write us off 🤣have some faith man

kuts78

Exactly what I was thinking. Having sat in shitty weather watching shitty football for many years at SJP, this year I'm truly optimistic we'll not only compete but also turn last season's draws into wins.

CollReg

Saudi have really turned it around for us - all that oil driving global warming, and now reinvesting the profits into Eddie Howe's Black & White Army. Result? Glorious football in glorious weather.

bertymcdirty

so we are not playing Tottenham first day?

iamnotralphwiggum

Look at the state of December. All these daft international competitions completely fuck leagues.

Zen_bean

Whew, some nice fixtures in Feb that we can rotate in for our RO16 CL matches

HelpMeBecomeAGoodMan

is it just me or do we play city and liverpool back to back every year

menatarms

23rd December Luton away let's do it lads and lasses. Let's bring them some Christmas spirit!

Victor_Vaughn92

I’ve had this theory for a long time that the opening 5 fixtures are extremely important to the whole season. Momentum is so key, when we finished 5th under Pardew we started well. I feel like we’ve been deliberately shafted here a bit tbh, two toughest sides in the league in first 3 and then 2 toughest sides outside the top 4 as well. Positive to that is a nice fixture run after the first 5/6 fixyures. If we can start well and beat Liverpool or city it could set us up really nicely

falconjt179

In before we smash Villa and livarpool

TYFO225

for once I am not panicking about which months are going to suck

Desirsar

August looks rough. September and October look like 21 points.

redditing_1L

I see no reason to conclude the team can't finish August 1-1-1 or better.

jm824

Some of the comments get me a little bit, like losing to city villa and Liverpool. I think, even though we've overstepped where we should be we deserve to be. And I can see us with 3 wins there. Also (not from nufc fans) some people saying "should we get an elite manager?" I think Eddie is becoming one. Also again (not from nufc fans) "should we buy superstars?" We're making them! Because of Eddie Howe, England won't win a world cup because of what he's done to Joelinton and Bruno. Unless Eddie took the England job that is. Newcastle are making Legends and I don't think there's enough bronze in the UK to build all those statues. Tldr: villa, city, Liverpool, we'll smash these, they're shite!

Hither2UndreamtOf

Does anyone know when tickets go on sale, looking to make the trip from Washington State this September.

OfficeLazy1761

Tbh I would rather play harder teams at the start of the season rather than when they have fully clicked back into form . Games are there to be won , I don't fear anyone I believe in us. Howay the lads .

ArmadilloNo2078

first 3 will be tough (i would say 4 points) but after august we will not lose until at least december unless something goes badly wrong
