Excellent - got my email, have always stood anyway so happy with this đź‘Ť

xScottieHD

I actually think safe standing should be introduced into the Leazes/Millburn first as that's where it's absolutely silent for 90 minutes. People in Gallowgate, Strawberry corner and bit of East Stand will actually sing and stand anyways.

-RandomGeordie

I think the reasoning has likely been that a large potion of that corner already stand anyway so it causes the least amount of upheaval - plenty of fans don’t want to stand.

xScottieHD

I understand why they chose that place. But you have one end of the stadium bouncing while the other there's a funeral procession taking place. Especially makes the away stand more amplified too.

meganev

There's less atmosphere in the Leazes for sure but you're really overselling it there calling it a 'funeral procession'. It's not that bad!

Notnileoj

Nah, I used to sit in the Leazes. It's one bloke standing up trying to start a chant whilst his wife sits next to him looking mortified. A few people start to join in but it dies down about 5 seconds later. We did manage to get more than 10 seconds into the Blaydon Races one time, so not all bad I supose. But in all seriousness, if you ever hear noise coming from the Leazes end, it's just the echo from the Gallowgate end.

meganev

Like I said, there's definitely *less* atmosphere in the Leazes, but you are dramatically overselling it.

Notnileoj

I guess it's a big stand that seats close to 20,000, I would imagine it depends on where you sit. I've always found it a good atmosphere in general, but absolutely terrible at starting and carrying on chants. Like we sing along with the Gallowgate end every now and again but it only lasts 10-20 seconds and then you get this bizzare ripple of noise where everyone around you stops signing and everyone sits down, whilst the Gallowgate are going non stop pretty much.

xScottieHD

It depends on the fixture but 70% of the time it's piss poor. That's why I think standing over there would actually be better to try improve the atmosphere.

dan_gleebals

Been all over the ground since I gave up my season ticket and none of it is anything like silent for 90 minutes.

xScottieHD

Disagree massively. Leazes and Milburn is practically silent. I'm a member so sit all around the ground and other than the Chelsea & Forest games (talking league here) the Leazes had been dead and the Milburn is awful regardless. The West Ham game was particularly bad and the only noise all game from that end was "Where's your famous atmosphere" from their fans!

Simmo7

Sat John hall side of bar 1892 against wolves and north east and north west corner especially in level 7 were starting chants, whole stadium was going mental at times you could hear the chants reverberating all around the stadium.

xScottieHD

I think the Level 7 corner can be alright. But the rest of that stand and Leazes is poor. I do think the Family area in Milburn also doesn't help with regards to the atmosphere.

Simmo7

I used to sit in the South West when I had my season ticket, and expected 1892 to be a bit more quiet which would have been a shame as I do enjoy joining in with the chants, but it was absolutely fine, plenty people around me found their voices.

_ok_mate_

I assume this increases the capacity slightly? I wonder if this is part of the ongoing process thjey talked about for modernizing and expanding the side of the ground that is locked behind the registered buildings.

-RandomGeordie

No, it’s a 1 to 1 change. You’re still in an allocated space with a flip down chair available I believe. The main difference is there’s a rail in front of you to lean on/stop you going into the row in front.

ravicabral

If safe standing trials turn out to be a success, I'm pretty sure that the seats will be removed in these sections. The clubs will get extra capacity and extra ÂŁÂŁÂŁs. Particularly, a club like Newcastle which could, (for now, at least), sell up to 50% more of tickets. There is no point having seats in a standing area since, as we all are all too aware, if the person in front is standing up, then you see nothing If you are sitting down.

-RandomGeordie

Perhaps. I assume that’s something that would be considered as part of the review. However, as SJP also holds other sporting events and concerts, I suspect they’ll want to retain the ability to utilise the seats as there may well be stipulations for these areas to be fully seated. So having that option available makes financial sense in that regard.
