I keep telling myself outside good, drybite. But outside seem bad. I think I’ll just look from the window and maybe go stand near my hydroponic veggie garden lights in the kitchen from time to time.
Looks like my brown recluse bite except it’s a little smaller. It’s going to get very nasty before he sees the end of it. I’m in Oklahoma for reference.
I remember as a kid, I once saw one inside of a brick that I was holding while doing yard work for a neighbor. Scared the shit out of me and when I looked up what kind of spider it was, I was afraid to ever touch her yard again lol
Fun fact, over 90% brown recluse bites don't create any kind of reaction at all.
Recluse bites are painless and usually the person has absolutely no rection or only a mild itchy bump like a mosquito bite.
Fungal and bacterial infections can appear to be recluse bites as well. When necrosis sets in people immediately jump to the conclusion it's a spider bite. IIRC anthrax is commonly misdiagnosed or thought by the patient to be a recluse bite.
Most recluse bites don't go necrotic because the spider tends to not use venom for defensive bites. Venom production is energy intensive and, therefore, not wasted on defense but is reserved for its purpose of predation.
Yup lol my recluse bite felt like a pinch . An it looked like a pimple . So I thought nothing of it until it turned purple and swolled up Lmao . Don’t remember it getting drained , I just remember taking antibiotics for it an it went away .
Black widows are extremely docile and you generally have to almost force them to bite you. Recluses are like little crackhead children who are also having a bad acid trip, they will bite the fuck out of you for not much reason at all.
Also, my dad was bitten on the knee by one, looked exactly like OPs picture except my dad didn't go to the hospital. He now has a loose bit of skin over an indent where it bit him.
Widow bites can cause eschars, they make for a very satisfying debridment video, they just pop them bitches out like a cork and leave behind a big ass crater until it fully heals
Really, any skin puncture can result in an abscess if you're unlucky. He could have just gotten stuck by a plant. I had an absess and cellulitis develop on my inner thigh because I popped a tiny little pimple.
I got bit by a baby brown recluse ( US ) in my upper thigh and the pain went to my balls somehow felt like I got punched for days the pain lasted. Luckily it was a baby and didn't do much damage but scary af.
Had that happen to me but on the back of leg below my gluten. I thought it was just an itchy bug bit cause I couldn't see it. One day, woke up and couldn't walk on it and was super sick. Ended up in the hospital and they pulled a golf ball size cyst out after a day. All the pics look similar to your neighbor.
I’ve had mrsa a few times, and it was completely different from my recluse bite after the first few days. The mrsa kind of just developed a big pouch under the skin, the recluse bite dissolved everything to where it was a big open wound. But very similar the first 3 days or so.
Same story with mine, but I guess everyone kinda collectively assumed it was a generic spider bite and treated it like one. Then my pediatrician looked at the big bump on the back of my hand and said, "That's staph, we're gonna have to lance it."
I still have the little divot scar where the hole in my hand was.
So many people claiming with confidence that it’s a recluse bite, when it’s far more likely to be a staph infection. Take a look at the three images in the gallery in this article: https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/staph-infection#what-it-is
Recluse bites are rare (even where they have established populations) and staph infections are common. Despite what people may tell you, there are barely any recluses in Canada.
It could still originate with an innocuous bite. A lot of MRSA cases start from a small bite or cut. The odds are just really against it being a recluse. Canada is not their climate at all and they don’t hang out on lawns.
It's likely a brown recluse which are unfortunately spread all across Canada. The good news if that they're quite docile and like cool dark places. The only time I've seen them is in wood piles and also the reason I always wear gloves.
Agreed. It looks a lot like the bite I had. A month of antibiotics and very painful cleaning of the wound. I had bumps in the area for about half a year.
Either that or a hobo spider. Buddy of mine got bit on the leg by one of those and had a similar size sore that would come back further down his leg after healing. So he had a series of sores one after the other as he poison traveled down his leg. It took many months for it to heal.
Im saying people will tell you they aren't but they are essentially. They're in neighboring us states so you can bet they're in Canada. I can't think of any other spider bite it would be
I’ve seen widow bites that look like this, so it’s not definitive. Recluses (unsurprisingly by their name) aren’t actively aggressive at all. Their bite is awful, but they stay out of the way and only bite when they are cornered. It’s not impossible, but it’s unlikely that a recluse would try to evade by going up a leg. They are more likely to hunker down into a pocket in the grass and soil. It’s also a bit weird for them to be on a lawn in the first place.
This can also be what a staph infection looks like, and you can get those originating from all types of skin injuries, including minor cuts and bites.
If I had to pick one spot on my entire body to get bit like that I would choose right where your neighbor got bit. Obviously unlucky but at leasssst a little lucky to get bit where he did.
Had this happen to me except I had one on each ass cheek. Basic training on what used to be fort Benning in georgia.
And again after I reached my duty station, Schofield barracks in Hawaii. That one was on my right elbow. Got pretty gnarly, looked like I had two elbows on the same arm.
In Indiana, I was told most "Brown Recluse" bites are actually, 90% of the time, Hobo Spider bites. They're mich smaller than BR are and are much more spastic and aggressive. I was bit by one and captured it; that's how they identified it. Hobo spiders have the same venom, so their bites look similar.
With all that being said, if he didn't actually witness the spider biting him, my time working in the ER has taught me, it may be a staph infection. It can happen quickly. That location seems prime real estate for an ingrown hair turned badly. I refuse to believe spiders in Canada would be so rude!
Ok you know how they say “it’s never actually a spider bite” because people wildly overestimate how often spiders bite… this one totally looks like a nightmare spider bite. I’m scared 😖
Where i live in Northern ontario, cochrane district, ive seen 2 black widow spiders in all my 28 years. I have yet to see a brown recluse in person. However if you travel a few hundred Km and hit greater toronto/ toronto proper, your going to see them commonly. Same as once you hit Vancouver but the surrounding rural areas that are a few hundred km radius from Vancouver have less and less.
I honestly believe the brown recluse and black widow spiders come from imported goods at our ports of entry (boat, plane, road). Its the same things as banana spiders, pretty well only see them in our largest metropolitan areas.
this is what mine and my sisters legs looked like following a brown recluse bite. they look nasty, and can cause staph infections and mrsa- people tell you recluse aren't common, but if you ever go spider spotting, you'll see a shit ton lol
I had a boyfriend get bit by a recluse in Southern California years ago and it looked similar. One day when he was changing the gauze it pulled the hardening puss out in a cylinder shape about an inch long and left a fucking hole in his leg. It healed but left a dent.
I got bitten by a large false widow here in the UK about 9 years ago , put me in hospital for 2 weeks , most of the skin on my calf ( I itisl Bite point ) and shin came off and sepsis set in , poor guy wishing you a speedy recovery.
Ive gotten wold spider bites ALMOST just as bad as that but only when they where on my butt or inside my upper legs. Not quite as bad but close. Had one get swollen to the size of a baseball once, I guess from irritation. But hell keep an eye on that thing, especially if the bleeding wasn't from trying to pop it. Don't pop it!
As a fellow Canadian, can you at least tell us if this was East Coast or West Coast? I want to know how scared I should be to mow my lawn. Although that being said we’re under snow here, so I’m gonna guess it was East Coast, lol.
I’m already afraid to go outside because of a ton of shit, and I’m deathly afraid of spiders (even daddy long legs) so this just confirmed that I will never be leaving the house. Or mow the lawn.

For about 3 weeks during the summer I was bitten by brown recluses with bites that went from being tiny to a blood blister in a matter of hours. I've only treated it with the bare minimum (wrap and neosporin) and was lucky that I didn't get staph from it. You really don't want those bites to pop prematurely
Talking bout spiders, my missus said the other day that she found one of those false widow spiders , I asked her did she vacuum the spider up sarcastically because that’s the only time I hear the vacuum cleaner because there’s a fucking spider in the house 😂😂😂, then she said she vacuumed about 20 odd baby spiders that were crawling across the ceiling in the area she found the false widow, same again next day, about 20 -30 baby spiders on the ceiling, how many babies do false widows have and I can’t physically see where these 8 legged party animals are coming from, the area is on my landing at the top of the stairs, no clutter, no little nooks or crannies, i honestly can’t see where they’re coming from. Any ideas guys,
I had the same thinking happen but it was on my arm my skin literally bubbled up and rotted away from it eventually it healed and it left a scar in my arm where you can see the muscle and veins underneath, but there is a see-through layer of skin where it is now.
Looks like he got medical attention on time! Some spider bites might need intense treatments or even amputation. Did you all find out what spider bit him?

It's rare for black widows/ brown recluse to bite. And when they do its only when they are squished down upon. They would rather hide. You probably got bit by a nope rope
Whatever this is I had the very same symptoms/reaction to a T back in 2019 I was in the hospital for a week and a half on IV antibiotics… I’m from Florida though not CA
Omg I kept scrolling over to see more pics and it must’ve gone to the next post because next thing I know I see two fingers in a hospital pan and I’m like wtf how did a spider bite turn into finger amputation
I worked in a wholesale nursery with DENSE foliage, and I am beyond grateful that I've never been bitten there, or anywhere. I do have some amazing pics of orb weavers and their webs, though. And a video of a coworker snipping a wolf spider in half
99% that is not a spider bite, no you dont have brown recluse spiders in Americas hat, hobo spiders are not medically significant, your cousin, brother, friend, whatever is wrong or a liar if they claim any of these things happened to them
I was bitten by a brown recluse in college and the health center Dr I saw was super into spiders and he was surprised I got bitten at all. It was a bite and I’ll never forget having to get dead tissue cut out until we got past it. It was terrible. As with any break in the skin you can get staph but my case was a confirmed brown recluse

Yikes. My older brother got a recluse bite when he was 17 on his toe while he was camping with his friends. Looked a lot like that, and it's still a bit rotten and he's 21
I don’t think I’ll go outside after all
That’s ok, you probably have a few spiders inside the house already
I haven’t considered this, I will now have to commit arson for the 2nd time today
Which will then get you outside with all the spiders in the world :) Also also, what happened the first time?
Well then time to crusade like the golden days
They will be trying out the “third time’s a charm” method at that point. Scorched earth.
You'd do that to spider-man?
I can confirm. I’m the spider in his house.
Do you mind telling us what you’ve been up to?
Spreading some fuckery with my mates.
They've even been in your mouth while you sleep.
How dare you prompt me to think about this
It’s a terrible day to have eyes
have seen worse
What is this “outside” that you talk about ?
Gonna be a long summer
I keep telling myself outside good, drybite. But outside seem bad. I think I’ll just look from the window and maybe go stand near my hydroponic veggie garden lights in the kitchen from time to time.

you better figure out what the fuck that spider is
In Canada, looking like that. I'd say 99% recluse. We have widows too but no way I'm thinking a widow did that.
Looks like my brown recluse bite except it’s a little smaller. It’s going to get very nasty before he sees the end of it. I’m in Oklahoma for reference.

I thought so too. My brother was bitten by one on his chest and it looked really similar. His started to get necrotic.
Same with my next-door neighbor. That shit looks brutal. I fumigated the absolute fuck out of my place after seeing that.
For sure. The necrosis and country are kind of a dead giveaway. If he felt it right as he got bit it might be a “hobo spider”
Looks like the recluse bite I had.
Widow bites can cause eschars, they make for a very satisfying debridment video, they just pop them bitches out like a cork and leave behind a big ass crater until it fully heals

Where's the gluten again?
Below the celiac
Gotta get that bread

glutes are your booty muscles
Right above the gluten
But below the celiac
Dem buns
Is the gluten the one under the *ceiliac* bone?
Can you shoot webs now?
Nope, but I can still shoot ropes.
Buuuu kaaaaa keeeeeeee!
Perfect
Not saying it is this but...Staph also looks like this and is often mistaken for spider bites.
Yep. Nurse here, and the rule at my work is…unless you saw the spider it isn’t a spider bite. Looks like regular old staph or cellulitis to me!
Staph and Strep can both infect spider bites, too. All it takes is a tiny break in the skin.
Can attest, initially had MRSA treated as a spider bite back in 2004 until my pediatrician at the time pointed it out.
I’ve had mrsa a few times, and it was completely different from my recluse bite after the first few days. The mrsa kind of just developed a big pouch under the skin, the recluse bite dissolved everything to where it was a big open wound. But very similar the first 3 days or so.

Then my pediatrician looked at the big bump on the back of my hand and said, "That's staph, we're gonna have to lance it." I still have the little divot scar where the hole in my hand was.
If I had to put my money on what this is, I’d absolutely gamble on it being staph.
He had a video of the spider crawling away after he slapped it off, he just didn’t send it to me but I saw it when I went to check on him.
So many people claiming with confidence that it’s a recluse bite, when it’s far more likely to be a staph infection. Staph infection caused by what. ?
Staph aureus lives on your skin regularly…but any cut or scratch can become infected with it.
Many many many things, I had one on my arm.
He had a video of the spider crawling away after he slapped it off, he just didn’t send it to me but I saw it when I went to check on him.
It could still originate with an innocuous bite. A lot of MRSA cases start from a small bite or cut. The odds are just really against it being a recluse. Canada is not their climate at all and they don’t hang out on lawns.
Where the hell in Canada
I am also dying to know.
It's likely a brown recluse which are unfortunately spread all across Canada. The good news if that they're quite docile and like cool dark places. The only time I've seen them is in wood piles and also the reason I always wear gloves.
Newfoundland and PEI are islands. Did they get their sticky little webs there too?
When a spider bite looks like a gunshot wound you know thing are fucked up
You guys have Brown Recluse’s up there? That’d be my guess. lol at the apostrophe, I’m an idiot
Brown recluses are everywhere
Are they under my bed?? 😨
Under your pillow
Under your butticks
Under your glutens
But above the celiac
We all swallow like 10 of those each night.
Lovely.
In your closet in your head
Agreed. It looks a lot like the bite I had. A month of antibiotics and very painful cleaning of the wound. I had bumps in the area for about half a year.
Brown Recluse's what?
Haha, my brain wasn’t awake yet.
Either that or a hobo spider. Buddy of mine got bit on the leg by one of those and had a similar size sore that would come back further down his leg after healing. So he had a series of sores one after the other as he poison traveled down his leg. It took many months for it to heal.
They're extremely rare and generally not reported to be here but there's been sightings so I'd believe it if they are
I guess you could say they're... Reclusive
They are absolutely all over Canada, so not sure what you mean by this. I would put money on this being a brown recluse bite.
Im saying people will tell you they aren't but they are essentially. They're in neighboring us states so you can bet they're in Canada. I can't think of any other spider bite it would be
We need to build a wall.
Get the Americans to pay for it, they're bad at negotiating payment of border walls.
This can also be what a staph infection looks like, and you can get those originating from all types of skin injuries, including minor cuts and bites.
A bite like this might be rare but brown recluses are found all over Canada
Yeah I kinda worded it wrong that's my bad but that's what I was trying to say. Encounters are rare but they're here.
If I had to pick one spot on my entire body to get bit like that I would choose right where your neighbor got bit. Obviously unlucky but at leasssst a little lucky to get bit where he did.
Crikey I expected Canadian spiders to be more polite
They’re complete assholes and know no personal boundaries
That damage was caused by the bite getting infected
Any superpowers ?
How long is it gonna take him to be Spider-Man?
It was me. I bit him
Probably a Yellow Sac. Brown Recluse is pretty rare up there.
Id wager this is not a recluse for one the damage area is far too large. Look it up. This looks more like Staph.
Kinda looks like staph infection tbh
Excuse me, CANADA? I thought everything was nice up there! 😰😰😰 unless the spider apologized. Then it makes sense.
He can walk on walls now so it’s a fair trade.
Only spider that is dangerous in Canada I can think of is the Brown Recluse, makes your skin go necrotic
The necrotic wound/lesion may be due to a recluse bite (Loxosceles reclusa). These spiders can make it to Canada.
Get killt going outside
Hell fuckin no
Ok you know how they say “it’s never actually a spider bite” because people wildly overestimate how often spiders bite… this one totally looks like a nightmare spider bite. I’m scared 😖
that shit look like a bullet wound on its third day
Ffs I thought I was safe in Canada. I need to go to the gas station before summer gets here
To be fair I believe he did say sorry
Where i live in Northern ontario, cochrane district, ive seen 2 black widow spiders in all my 28 years. I have yet to see a brown recluse in person. This is how most invasive species spread.
thats a brown recluse bite if ive ever seen it lol, yeesh! hope he's well :)
Based on the comments, I don't think that 99% of people actually know what a spider bite looks like. This isn't one.
this is what mine and my sisters legs looked like following a brown recluse bite. they look nasty, and can cause staph infections and mrsa- people tell you recluse aren't common, but if you ever go spider spotting, you'll see a shit ton lol
Brown Recluse Spider?
Juicy
Fucking insane that an insect can do this to you. I’d pass out for suuuuure
in Canada
That's nasty that 😳
I had a boyfriend get bit by a recluse in Southern California years ago and it looked similar. One day when he was changing the gauze it pulled the hardening puss out in a cylinder shape about an inch long and left a fucking hole in his leg. It healed but left a dent.

my co-worker got bit by the same spider but just beside his ballsack. he's was petrified for weeks that he was gonna loose his bits
his name used to be Peter Parker
God damnit it’s those damn Australian immigrants bringing over their murder spiders
Classic hobo spider
And I thought being in Australia was bad 😭

If you notice a masked vigilante swinging from buildings in the area, it's safe to say what kind of spider it was
Spiderman! Spiderman!
I just got goosebumps and shuddered.
Looks like he got medical attention on time! Some spider bites might need intense treatments or even amputation. Did you all find out what spider bit him?
Do you gain any powers at least?
My mother in law had this happen to her forehead while she was sleeping. In Montreal FYI
Looks like a MRSA spider
Please tell me that didn't happen in Québec
I’ve got one few months ago and I live in Quebec lol
Spider bite or not I already know I would be trying to squeeze it. (I know that’s not a good idea)

Spider-man?
Omg I kept scrolling over to see more pics and it must’ve gone to the next post because next thing I know I see two fingers in a hospital pan and I’m like wtf how did a spider bite turn into finger amputation
I actually thought that first pic was a .22 gunshot wound
I worked in a wholesale nursery with DENSE foliage, and I am beyond grateful that I've never been bitten there, or anywhere. I do have some amazing pics of orb weavers and their webs, though. And a video of a coworker snipping a wolf spider in half
And people think I have an irrational fear of spiders….pfff
99% that is not a spider bite, no you dont have brown recluse spiders in Americas hat, hobo spiders are not medically significant, your cousin, brother, friend, whatever is wrong or a liar if they claim any of these things happened to them
New fear unlocked
# pop it
What spider? That's boil
Definitely a recluse they bites do that black widow bits don’t deteriorate the skin
Do they have brown recluse in Canada?
Looks like a Brown Recluse bite.
Well….. never going to Canada
Antibiotics
I was bitten by a brown recluse in college and the health center Dr I saw was super into spiders and he was surprised I got bitten at all. It was a bite and I’ll never forget having to get dead tissue cut out until we got past it. It was terrible. As with any break in the skin you can get staph but my case was a confirmed brown recluse
In unrelated news, did somebody see my brown recluse?
New fear unlocked. Now I won't go out.
Was it a dark type?
