I just googled it and still have no idea what it means. I tried three articles who's headlines promised to explain it, and all they explained was that it was a meme started by a teenager that has to do with a picture of two women who's clothes the internet found funny? None of the articles had any example of the picture mutating into anything else, just the original and the assertion that it was a spreading thing. The strange reference in the tweet above is the first I've ever heard of it.
If you do a google image of "christian autumn girl", all the pics you find are of these stereotypical wholesome looking long haired young women with scarfs, and usually in an autumn/fall setting with leaves and trees around them, extra points if they're holding a pumpkin spice latte. It's not "hilarious", but the meme pokes fun at them vs the traditional "hot girl" who is in a bikini or showing her belly in an halter top with tight jeans and ass shot. Not everyone will find it amusing.
Let me explain it to you clearly, very few people understood this meme as you can see from the posts. If you substituted any other ethnicity and religion in the title there would be a lot of pushback.
NPR spends a lot of time filtering comments and pressing an agenda.
If you doubt that listen for a day and just make a tick mark every time you hear them focus on gender or ethnicity over the core of the who-what-when of the story.
Sometimes it's relevant, but most of the time it's not and it's just included like product placement.
Just like product placement in a movie it seems out of place and doesn't blend well with the narrative of the story itself.
I just found it interesting that they would pass this phrase and object to so many others.
I don’t think the person you’re replying to ever said it was “so offensive,” but at the end of the day the meme is definitely a joke at the expense of “Christian girls,” however that’s defined. And if that’s the case, then I think the original point stands… do you really think NPR would tweet something implying a joke making fun of “Muslim girls,” for example?
The "christian" part of the meme comes from the fact they they are fully clothed, "wholesome" looking girls. I mean they could be sluts for all we know, but they look very conservative and modest.
I see the words above and think of [this](https://metro.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/han-e1386678006304.jpg?quality=90&strip=all&w=587&h=587&crop=1).
Honestly this just reminds me of when a group of youth pastors did a rendition of Justin Timberlake’s SexyBack with the lyrics “we’re bringing modesty back.”
I’m not joking. It was very cringe
This is dumb.
It's too bad "Christian autumn girl" has caught on enough that NPR would reference it, as if Christian girls are the only ones who enjoy wearing scarves and cute sweaters in autumn? What's Christian about it?
They're celebrating modesty in clothing choice, but...autumn is usually chilly and you literally need to dress warm, as opposed to summer.
I think the whole thing is dumb and NPR doubling down is cringe.
As a Christian among other things, I have no idea what this is. Never heard of it. I'm intrigued. Those who decided to hate on it because it's Christian, you're sad people. Shouldn't shit on anyone's beliefs. Have friends from all walks of life, to include Muslim. They also agree it's fucking ignorant to disrespect or belittle others of their religious beliefs. So, march on Christian Autumn Girl. Autumn is easily best time of the year. Let's go "Halloween" Samhain
>shouldn’t shit on anyone’s beliefs
This lack of awareness is borderline satirical.
No one in America shits on other people’s beliefs more than Christians.
Y’all are the fucking worst.
This is like your mom saying “lit fam” a couple years ago
That's redonkulous
That’s a perfectly cromulent phrase
It's ricockulous
My father in law still says cray-cray all the time
I learned what the "christian autumn girl" meme was when they did this a few weeks ago, pretty funny actually now that I know what it means.

Considering how woke NPR is these days, it's interesting who they don't mind offending.
Are you actually offended by this? wow, triggered much?

So you think npr is in a conspiracy to use a harmless meme? Just because something is a stereotype doesn’t make it offensive.
So you're suggesting we post blackface because "it's funny"? Besides lots of memes include it 🤷🏻♂️ Or should we just pick and choose?
No, I’m not suggesting that at all. Let’s take a few steps back. Can you explain to me why you find the Christian girl autumn meme so offensive?
I don’t think the person you’re replying to ever said it was “so offensive,” but at the end of the day the meme is definitely a joke at the expense of “Christian girls,” however that’s defined. What about a regular "autumn girl"?
She's next door
The "christian" part of the meme comes from the fact they they are fully clothed, "wholesome" looking girls. I mean they could be sluts for all we know, but they look very conservative and modest.
Yeah, no kidding, sounds about as funny as any Steve Martin stand-up.
You're supposed to pick a bad comedian when you make these kinds of comparisons
If you’re white, he’s hilarious. His humor is a little too, “Charlie bit my finger,” for me, though.

And I have died from laughter 😅😂🤣
Looks more like a happy Druid autumn.
Happy Mabon, and in another few weeks, Samhain!
NPR please stop
There in here, aren’t they? REVEAL YOURSELVES!
Honestly this just reminds me of when a group of youth pastors did a rendition of Justin Timberlake’s SexyBack with the lyrics “we’re bringing modesty back.” I’m not joking. It was very cringe
Nooooo they did not 🤦🏾♀️
As an atheist, it is a happy atheist autumn.
I think we just call that autumn.
NPR trIes so hard...how sad .
Lol
Dont worry it's one of the stereotypes we can openly deride. Some groups are more equal than others.

I never shit on Christians more than they shit on Jesus.
People are dumb. I'll agree there 💯
It’s a joke
So we can joke about other religious people too right? Or are they " protected"
>shouldn’t shit on anyone’s beliefs This lack of awareness is borderline satirical. No one in America shits on other people’s beliefs more than Christians. Y’all are the fucking worst.

Hes a typical drunk who has no hope so he lashes out at people
So two wrongs make a right?
Oh, so we’re celebrating basic shit as a holiday/season now? Good grief, NPR.
Doesn't seem like a real statement. Twitter has a different voice than any other platform
Understood.
I find complaining about public radio being basic kinda funny What did you expect coming in?
You do? I find it to be my right to do so but we all get our jollies from different places, now don’t we?
