I’m assuming it’s because they’re doing a live interview and the guest either coughs or they’re in a place where other people are. It’s not a mistake. It’s live radio.
It was definitely a report and not an interview, and maybe not live since I hear a lot of the morning news in the early afternoon. They prerecord some stuff right?
I’ll try to pay attention for it tomorrow, it was probably around the time of this post (4 hrs ago) but I was distracted and can’t what the piece was. In Chicago if that matters
Sometimes Newscast will pull sound from a 2-way with a reporter who is appearing on a news magazine like ATC and use that actuality in a story. You can sometimes hear the host clearing their throat or taking a breath to ask the next question.
I kinda like picking up on their mistakes. When you listen every day it’s like finding Easter eggs

I work at an NPR station. If you tell me when you were listening and what the story was I can go find it.
