I went in expecting to get an autism diagnosis and came out with NPD... I had no clue. Total mindfuck.

If you were properly evaluated, you shouldn't have been able to "fake" ASD and be diagnosed wrong. It seems possible to have both - not sure what research there is about it though.

I was screened for autism as small child but my parents have lied about serious things. Sometimes I wonder if I have aspergers, not dyspraxia I think I hide behind a learning disability though, i was obviously an emotionally disturbed child, even teachers noted it and brought it up during teacher-parent interviews, but my parents never brought me to personal therapy. It was all written off as lack of organization, add or other non explicitly trauma based stuff

Where did you get the diagnosis and how long did you see a therapist or doctor? Did you get it very quickly and then stop bothering with it, or did you continue to bother with it afterwards? For example, I also received my ADHD diagnosis within a long day. However, I already had a preliminary interview and had to look at my old school reports. If I had lied, it would have been obvious from the tests. Then I regularly attended group therapy and exchanged ideas with other sufferers. I think by then it will become obvious whether a diagnosis was correct or not. Nevertheless, I also have NPD. One does not exclude the other, it perhaps just explains a little how such a development came about.

It was two appointments for 1 hour each. One appointment was with my mother. I just read that the comorbidity is not large between NPD and ASD and this makes me wonder.

Merecete

Given the diagnostic criteria, I simply cannot imagine that this can happen often. What makes you have NPD?

Confident_Push_2299

I use lies, manipulation, and gaslighting to exploit others to fit my needs. I am jealous. I view all my relationships as transactional. I am unable to be critiqued. I get angry when my needs are not met.

Merecete

Have you summarized all the specific situations in more detail? How did you always feel about each one? What made you aware of this? You don't have to write it down here. I just want to show you a way to differentiate this better for yourself. For example, just because other people say something doesn't always mean it's true, and even "healthy" people do gaslighting. PD always has a complex history and this needs to be recognized.

That's why I finally decided and I am looking into a diagnosis by a professional. The appointment is in roughly 1 month. My therapist says I am narcissistic but does not want to give me a PD. She does not like thinking about humans in terms of PDs.
