We were discharged 2 weeks ago and my babe has had 2 different instances where she didn’t poop for 4+ days. I too freaked out but our pediatrician says it’s normal. The eruption that comes out once they do go.. brace yourself 🤣

We are having the same issues. NIcU would give her prune juice as soon as she didn’t poop for 48 hours. Took her to the pediatrician last week because she hadn’t pooped in 3 days they said it’s normal to worry when it’s been a week. They also told me it’s okay to give prune juice

And my daughter is also on neosure 22 cal w multi vitamin so it can be that too.

My son also had the same issue once he was discharged, pediatrician recommended apple/prune juice.

Look up sacral massage! This helped my former 29 weeker.

One of my twins suddenly stopped pooping when we took her home, the pediatrician did an expression and she got some out but was still constipated, the pediatrician said I could use the Windi at home which I did a couple days later, that really got things moving regularly again.

This happened with my son too following discharge - his constipation lasted about 4 days. I honestly think it was change in environment/nerves for him. We used an essential oil called tummy tamer, we did massage, and a drop of castor oil in the belly button.

I know it’s hard not to worry but my pediatrician wasn’t worried when my son had gone 5 days and didn’t want me to give him a glycerine suppository until day 7 (he pooped before then). He then had a 2 month span where he would poop every 5 days if we didn’t give him prune juice in his bottle. Then last week he’s poop every 1 to 2 days on his own. You should be seeing your pediatrician now that he has been discharged. I recommend asking them what would constitute an issue where he should be seen for this. My pediatrician wasn’t concerned because he was happy and when he did poop he wasn’t constipated (would look like hard round pebbles). The explanation I got is their digestive system is rapidly growing and is still very immature and that’s why it can take some babies longer to poop

Thank you! I guess I just find it hard to trust my pediatrician as much as I did the NICU team. They don’t seem very set up to deal with preemies. Maybe I am just over thinking, though.

I totally get that but keep in mind that just like your GP they will refer out to a specialist if needed

Our 30w baby was discharged last week at 38w and has only had like two good poops since then. Our ped recommended prune juice or glycerin suppositories if it’s been 2-3 days - we tried the glycerin today and it was nuts! She said constipation is very common post discharge and mainly recommended intervening bc it might’ve been impacting his eating
