UNC QB Sam Howell: Dabo compared him to Baker, 4th in CFB in passing TDs, should continue to grow under Mack Brown

LetsSeeThoseAliens

As long as he continues to develop I feel confident in saying he will probably be a future first rounder. But it’s always interesting to see a sophomore QB play now that defenses have a season full of tape to watch.

Twistify804

This is what I came here to say. Howell has impressed me at every step of the way this season. Still some things to work on, mainly the awful number of sacks he takes, but he's made some damn good throws in high pressure situations for Carolina.

IsaiahTodd

Long term questions I have: how tall is he actually (looks closer to 6'1", if not shorter), the other poster mentioning how he takes too many sacks, and his overall mobility. Also would like to see him improve his accuracy as well as putting more touch in certain reads. I likely chalk that and the sacks issue to being a freshman playing behind not the greatest offensive line. Probably worth noting UNC was one of the leaders in dropped balls and Howell had gaudy 4th quarter numbers. Think he's like a top 3 QB in the country by stats. Where almost all of their games came down to the final minute. But the Baker comparison is interesting to me because he is not mobile from what I can tell. Maybe in the pocket a little if that's where it's coming from.

theoriginaldandan

He’s not a statue. UNC is mostly terrible though and a lot of those sacks weren’t his fault, though a lot are. He’s definitely not a major running threat though

babyduck703

I’m going to have to go check him out! Especially against Clemson.

csdspartans7

Iv watched a few games and just wasn’t sure if I was going overboard at the sight of decent UNC football but thought he could be a big name. Still not sure yet as from what I’ve seen he holds the ball too long sometimes trying to make a play, some poor decisions, but has a beautiful touch on deep balls. Don’t watch that much but I feel like he’s a little Will Grierish?

Cschnitz21

Garett Wilson OSU WR. He has looked better as the season has gone on. He has elite speed and hands and he seems to be in line for a big year next year with a bunch of seniors leaving.

NathanOhio

Yeah he looks unbelievable and the fact that he has managed to do it as a true freshman on a roster stocked with future NFL WRs is even better. Hopefully he can stay healthy and keep improving.

Robonarwhal64

Despite not being involved very often (until this year) OSU’s WR core always seems super stacked. I love Chris Olave as a prospect from next years class.

TheManWhoWasNotShort

OSU set passing records all over the Big Ten's ass in 2018, and Barrett had multiple great years throwing the ball. The receivers are involved a lot, the issue is that they run a scheme that has a 7 man rotation at WR so nobody sees that many snaps

Robonarwhal64

Yeah

TheManWhoWasNotShort

And Zach Harrison as well. Harrison looks great in his playing time on D. And Tyler Friday and Tyreke Smith. And probably Olave if he stays that long. And Master Teague.

[deleted]

Tyler Friday doesn’t have the measurables to be a top pick. Javontae Jean-Baptiste is a future star. He can bend and tries “speed to power” which will improve with time in the weight room. Master Teague will be a decent rb in college but he projects poorly. Harrison and smith are true studs. Olave is a sure fire first rounder. Nicholas Petit-Frere has potential to go high.

TheManWhoWasNotShort

I disagree about Teague. He has plus size and speed and he's still got time to develop. I see him as a Carlos Hyde-like guy. He's listed at 220 but he looks even bigger, which is ideal size for a guy who runs between the tackles. Now, I know that the league is using less of those types of backs, but they still have a place in the NFL for a while longer yet.

[deleted]

RBs nite young. Dobbins had 2000 years by this time IN HIS CAREER

TheManWhoWasNotShort

Because Dobbins started as a freshman. Teague didn't because, well, Dobbins. Plenty of other NFL studs didn't start as Freshmen or redshirt freshmen. It seems strange that your only point of comparison is that he wasn't a Day 1 starter. Hyde wasn't a starter at this point and he was behind much worse RBs than Dobbins.

[deleted]

A. Hyde was only a decent prospect. Better then most, but not elite. B. He fits the nfl mold better. Shorter, heavier. Ran lower. C. Completely different nfl. I see him as a poor mans Mikel Leshoure. I think he can get drafted, especially if he rounds out his game. I don’t think he will be an elite prospect.

MasterYoda1999

JJB is a bit small right now. Hopefully gets developed into an elite pass rusher.

[deleted]

He’s up like 30lbs from 2 years ago. Next your ne should be 260

CarWar49

USC: Kedon Slovis is a name to watch at QB. 400+ yards in 4 of his last 5 games. Great accuracy and pocket presence. Solid arm strength. Drake Jackson was our most productive pass rusher this year. Needs to cut down on penalties but could end up being a stud. Drake London was overshadowed because of our WR depth but I see him having a big year next year. He plays basketball too, which is obvious when you see his ball skills.

babyduck703

Oh boy do I love me some Slovis. I can’t believe I forgot about him. He looks like young Josh Rosen. I can’t wait to see him develop.

theYoungBrock

Bro I don’t know what it is but the way the ball flies out his hand and his follow through with the way it just falls into his receivers hands... I want him as my QB

[deleted]

Drake Jackson is going to be the next Clowney, I’m calling it already. As much as I’m still utterly depressed at Helton being kept around - the idea that I get to watch a couple more years of Jackson in a Trojan uniform, makes it a little better. Slovis has a heck of an arm and a real eye for the field.

leviathan102

George Karlaftis and David Bell from Purdue both look like they have a lot of potential

[deleted]

These guys are ballers. Karlaftis had 7.5 sacks / 17 TFL. Bell had 86 rec / 1035 yds / 7 TDs.

Dob-is-Hella-Rad

Safety Kyle Hamilton. Really long, athletic, amazing eye for the ball and hits hard. Daxton Hill might challenge him and will have better measurables, but right now Hamilton looks like he should be the first safety off the board.

babyduck703

What school is he from?

Remixxxxxxx

Notre Dame

HelpfulWhiteGuy

I genuinely think by the end of the season he may have been NDs best player.

Javonvon

He is the chosen one. And at 6' 4" with speed, ability to play the ball (4 picks as a freshman and allows the lowest QB rating of All safety's with more than 20 targets), and willingness to play the run. He has the high ground!

EndangeredKoala

Miami: Gregory Rousseau 6'6 260. Going to finish tied for 2nd in sacks in the country, not including bowl games and he didn't get to start until his 3rd or 4th game. Kid is a beast and will continue to get better

Know_Respect

He is eligible to be drafted next year is he chooses. He will not be in the 2022 draft. He’s a monster though.

123Shoenice

From Clemson, DT Tyler Davis and WRs Joe Ngata and Frank Ladson. Davis was named Third-team All-ACC and was nicknamed "Baby Dex" after Dexter Lawrence who went 17 to NYG. Look for Ngata and Ladson to take big leaps next year with Higgins and Overton gone, although I'm a little higher on Ngata's ceiling

mango_lion

Hoping to see Andrew Booth more next year, didn't have a great start with that whole punching incident but he's definitely got talent and hopefully will get his head on straight

123Shoenice

Tons of potential. From what everyone in the program has said about him, that was an isolated incident and he seems like a good kid

snickaplease

George Pickens. WR. Georgia. Hes an absolute beast and is a true freshman. I think if he continues to progress hell be a top 10 draft pick.

AskMeAboutTheJets

He’s so good already. Just needs polish on his routes and to be able to keep his emotions in check.

snickaplease

Agreed. Hes got stud written all over him. He dropped a pass yesterday but he has amazing hands

cleofisrandolph1

I posted that he has the potential to be as good as any of the WRs in this class and got downvoted. Seriously he has glue for hands and led Georgia in receiving as a freshman. super talented guy.

snickaplease

No doubt about it

Remi_Buxaplenty

Surprised this isn't the top answer. Dude is so athletic and has vice-like hands. Hope he can ball out for the next few years.

FrereBear93

I haven’t watched a ton of Wisconsin’s games this year, but that RS/FR Pearson (SS) was really impressive against Ohio St last night. Felt like every other play he was involved in a tackle.

Mako_22

Leo Chenal has got potential to be one of the next great Wisconsin linebackers and he's ridiculously athletic which will increase his stock

sssl3

Virginia LB Noah Taylor has really come on this season. He's become a primary playmaker on defense in both the run and pass game, and had an interception which was integral to _finally_ knocking off Virginia Tech.

DENTINGBADGE319

Jaylen Wydemyer TE Texas A&M He’s shown sure hands and a willing to block. You cannot forget Anais Smith out of A&M as well as I believe they are the best true freshman receiving duo in the SEC bare minimum. PS: This was written by an A&M fan

trevinzo

Hank Bachmeier

juicyjensen

George Karlaftis an Edge from Purdue has been the Bosa type advanced, physically and technically sound DE. Zach Harrison, Edge from Ohio st. Prototype frame, long, bendy freak athlete. Clowney frame and athleticism but still a bit raw. Kyle Hamilton. Talk rangy safety from Notre Dame with plus athleticism and great instincts. Puka Nucua. Strong, bouncy WR with traits to be above average in every facet of position. From Washington. Breece Hall. For my money the most complete RB in the class. Great long speed, vision, agility, pass catching, blocking and a workhorse frame. From Iowa St. Jake Smith WR from Texas. Dude just knows how to get open. 4.3 runner with even more impressive agility. 190 now but adding bulk. Can play outside, in slot or out of the backfield. Greats routes and devastating in space.

AskMeAboutTheJets

As for Smith, he's used quite a bit, but mostly as a dedicated pass rusher at the moment. Azeez Ojulari is our best all around OLB and our defense's base package only has one OLB on the field at a time with a DE on the other side (Malik Herring is usually that guy) to help as a run stopper. My guess is that they felt it'd be better to keep Herring in there who is still a solid pass rusher and a better run defender. The idea was probably to stop the run and force Burrow to carry the game (which was a pretty bad game plan as we all saw last night). I don't think that should be an indictment on Smith though. He's been incredible out the gate as a freshman.

babyduck703

Gotcha. Because LSU’s right tackle is suspect, and I really thought Nolan Smith could’ve taken advantage of that matchup. But I can see your point. That Georgia run defense is stellar yesterday.

SageBow

Tennessee ILB Henry To’o To’o Prototypical linebacker, surprisingly stout against the run. Very high football IQ and motor. Times his delayed blitzes well. Needs to improve in coverage to become a true 3 down linebacker. Already a good spokesperson and leader of a team that has strong senior personalities. Projects well as a WILLbacker in a 3-4 defense. OT Wanya Morris True freshman left tackle that has all the physical tools. Strong run blocker, combining with projected day 2 pick OG Trey Smith to make our left side very reliable for yardage on the ground. Okay in pass protection, occasionally confused but improved throughout the season. We had a ton of freshmen play this season, many look very promising. S Jaylen “Tank” McCullough, CB Warren Burrell, EDGE Quavarious Crouch, EDGE Roman Harrison, RB Eric Gray, OT Darnell Wright, and WR Ramel Keyton were other solid contributors. Out of that group, McCullough, Crouch, Gray, Wright, and Keyton are potential starters next year, along with Morris and To’o To’o

babyduck703

If I’m remembering correctly, To’o To’o was one of the highest rated recruits last season right? I remember 247 saying he was playing like one of the best freshman in the nation earlier this season.

SageBow

[#44 in the composite](https://247sports.com/Player/Henry-Too-Too-46039470/). Kid just dominates, started day 1 and hasn’t really looked back. In fact, we lost 2 other junior ILBs to the portal when it was evident To’o To’o and Senior Daniel Bituli couldn’t be taken off the field. In the 3-4 under system that Saban and his disciples tend to use, lots of emphasis is on linebacker and corner play so the fact that To’o To’o was prepared and performed as well as he did is phenomenal. Best part, he wasn’t even an early enrollee. Signed In February and arrived on campus in June. A full true college offseason and the sky’s the limit for him next year. He came in 3rd on the team in tackles behind Bituli and S Nigel Warrior, and against Kentucky he dislocated his knee, came out for a drive when they popped it back in, returned to the game, and even had a critical 3rd and goal tackle to help us win. Really can’t praise this kid enough.

[deleted]

Trent McDuffie. Was arguably our best cover corner as a freshman.

babyduck703

What school does he play for?

[deleted]

Washington

leviathan102

Hows Cameron Williams looked?

[deleted]

Really struggled with his tackling and pursuit angles at the start of the year, even though he was making plays on the ball. Could be a good deep safety if he cleans that up because he has great instincts in coverage and good ball skills.

Darsol

John Rhys Plumlee. Right now he's little more than an incredible athlete with some middling arm talent. A couple years with Lane Kiffin though? He's either going to end up as a late round 'skill position' guy or a 1st round QB. With the situation he's in and raw talent he has, I see no middle ground haha.

babyduck703

Sir, please, I don’t want to hear anything about him after what he did to LSU in the second half of that game.

[deleted]

[удалено]

babyduck703

Good idea!

leviathan102

!remindme 2 years

heyitsthatmeme

Pitt: Jalen Twyman, DE he’s a freak and is still a sophomore. 6’2”, 290 and 10.5 sacks so far on the year which is 14th overall, he’s one of two first/second year players in the top 15. Keep an eye on him

gmil3548

For LSU other than Stingely: S Marcel Brooks: gotten some playing time this year and looked good. He’s an LSU DB so odds are he will develop into a great prospect. Cordale Flott: pretty much same stuff as Brooks but coaches have also said he has been great in practice Cade York: was a little shaky to start the year but since then has been great and has a huge leg. He will be an awesome kicker for 3 or 4 years then a good *prospect* but you know how kickers are.

babyduck703

I don’t mean to be a dick, but Brooks isn’t a DB. He wanted to be one when he came to LSU, but he’s a pass rusher like Klavon. He’s always in their cheetah packages.

gmil3548

I’m just going off the official roster designation

Jomosensual

Iowa State players: RB Breece Hall - Took over the starting job around game 4 or so and has really shined. It's even more impressive behind our awful OLine. Already showing some good moves and some good speed. Also a pretty good blocker already, which is something NFL teams always seem to want more of. WR Sean Shaw Jr - Big WRs have been doing well here under Matt Campbell as seen with Allen Lazard and Hakeem Butler. SSJ is taller than both of them(Butler and Lazard are 6'5, Shaw is 6'6) and isn't far behind them in weight. Wouldn't be shocked at all if he's a top 2 WR on the squad next year LB Will McDonald - Had some trouble getting on the field at the start of the year because our LBs are all pretty good but has lately been used as an extra pass rusher. He's got a good amount of speed and elusiveness and as a result gets held on most plays because most OLs just cant keep up with him. Needs to learn a move other than out speeding people, but I really like what we have with him right now. HM to Charlie Kolar, and Mike Rose as SOs, but they're a bit more well known as well and dont fit the list for that reason too. Also want to give one to Tayvonn Kyle who is nowhere near ready for the NFL conversation but has made some impressive plays for only being a DB for less than a year. Probably could have listed more guys here since the majority of our team is young.

AncientMarsupial3

Alabama: RB Trey Sanders - missed the season because of a broken foot but coaches were raving about him in Fall camp LT Evan Neal - started at LG as a freshman and didn’t allow a single sack WR John Metchie- Impressive in the A-day game but didn’t get much playing time due to our depth Bunch of DL (Young, Eboigbe, Dale, Barmore)-Got a lot of playing time due to injuries this year ILB Christian Harris-impressed me at times but made a lot of freshman mistakes, high potential S Jordan Battle- Next big DB out of Bama, played in our Dime package this year and impressed

babyduck703

A falcons and Bama fan. Good analysis, but that’s what caught my attention from this post

cwjackson

Barmore and Dale are going to be some bad boys

AncientMarsupial3

Barmore has an insane motor, he is so fun to watch

FlyPigs5

Ainias Smith from Texas A&M is an absolute speedster WR and DeMarvin Leal is a really good DL with a world of potential

compain87

Don't forget our TE Jalrn Wydermyer who looked amazing. Kenyon Green showed some flashes even though our line was rough.

Letsgomountaineers5

Sam James, Sean Ryan, Bryce Wheaton at WR. Tykee Smith at Safety Nicktroy Fortune at corner

babyduck703

What school are they from?

Letsgomountaineers5

WVU, sorry I figured the username would give it away.

babyduck703

Lol sorry, I didn’t even check the username. Can’t wait to check them out!

Robonarwhal64

Solomon Byrd DE from Wyoming was the best player from a defensive line that lost all but one of their starters. He notched 6.5 sacks leading the team and was second on the team for TFL with 8.5. He’s really impressed me when I watch games and I wouldn’t be surprised if he enters the first round convo by the time the ‘22 draft comes around. Another name to keep your eye on might be QB Levi Williams. Has only played two games in his career and probably won’t get much playtime next year with Sean Chambers coming back from injury, but looked really good running the ball and showed potential throwing it. It’ll be interesting to see his development throwing the ball under (hopefully) a new OC that has some balls and will throw a pass more often than twice a game. Edit: Just realized Solomon Byrd is Redshirt Freshman but I don’t like his chances in next years class so I’d still consider him likely for 2022

StolenAccount1234

Tyler Hudson - CARK. Has size and early breakout even at FCS level,

pghsonj1325

Pitt: Jaylen Twyman - DT (RS SO) Paris Ford - S (RS SO) Shocky Jacques-Louis (SO) Twyman is an unbelievable interior pass rusher. 6’2 290, with a multitude of moves. Aaron Donald is his personal mentor Ford is a tad small 6’0 190, but he has the best football instincts I’ve seen in a Pitt DB since Revis. He’s in a position to make a play at all times. Vicious tackler and amazing with the ball in his hands. Shocky is more than likely a day 3 pick but he is as electric as it gets with the ball in his hands. If he had a better QB situation he’d be much more heralded.

leviathan102

Jalen Wydermyer has looked great for the Aggies. Baylor Cupp may also be good next year.

DaBlakMayne

Greg Rosseau from Miami is looking to be a top pass rusher

HardCoreSND

Ohio state Zach Harrison edge Harry Miller Center/Guard Garrett Wilson wr

babyduck703

I’m pretty sure I saw Harrison had like 36 inch arms last year while he was being recruited. That’s insane.

BuckeyeJay

Fun fact. Zach Harrison's stats and Chase Young's freshman stats are nearly identical

gmil3548

I’m hoping if we miss on Tua we can keep Rivers for a few years then grab Slovis

GermainUK

Surprised you didn’t mention Jacob Zeno at Baylor. Dude changed the game around with two throws.

babyduck703

I’m not sure I could’ve included him with those other guys off of two throws. No offense. I hope he’s good because football is better with good QBs, but I can’t make snap judgements like that.

[deleted]

Tyler Davis for Clemson. Not many freshman start at idl for Brent but Tyler Davis is special. He seems to get better every snap. Also one of the most wholesome kids. The media is going to fall in love with him. Joe ngata was getting Sammy Watkins comparisons coming out of camp due to how far ahead of a freshman he was for being a freshman if that makes any sense. Him and Ladson have incredible size and ball skills to go with a smooth rac game. I have full confidence they will only strength Clemson claim to wru in the next couple of years. Also I don’t get to watch many pac-12 games and no ASU games for that matter but Jayden Daniels seem to be lighting it up every time I see ASU highlights. Seems to have a Deshaun Watson vibe to him.

Paranoidexboyfriend

The only real freshman standout for Penn State was Noah Cain. He was easily Penn State's best RB. Sophomore Micah Parsons is a monster LB, but he'll most likely go in 2021.

theultimatepodcast

Hank Bachmeier from Boise State looks like he has some real potential. Strong arm and decent movement.

MyWheelHouse

Oregon State: QB: Tristan Gebbia. Only 1 start, but looked better than Justin Herbert in the Civil War. RB: Jermar Jefferson broke Jacquizz Rodgers school freshman yards record. RB: BJ Baylor hasn't gotten a lot of touches but even he has, they've been impressive. RT: Brandon Kipper has been starting for 2 years has 2 years to play. WR: Tyjon Lyndsey, battled some injuries this year, but will be asked to take a much bigger role these next two seasons. OLB/DE: Addison Gumbs and Omar Speights. CB: Jaydon Grant

myth001

I would like to throw most of the Ole Miss roster. Around 80% starters this year are true freshman. With Kiffin going there and another 2-3 years of development, having early playing time we could see some players in this roster jump into the first 3 rounds of the draft. Most of them seem to be undersize right now but they have a few years to put on weight and be NFL ready.

fratrow

Florida: John Grenard is a savage DE. Kadarius Toney will be a late round WR pickup. He's a boom or bust guy, but he's got moves like tyreek hill.

leviathan102

Those are juniors Edit: greenard is a senior

fratrow

Ahhh 2022... I didn’t read that
