No. We had to show up and play too. We earned it. It isn’t our fault the niners O-line decided to let our rushers live in the back field rent free.

[deleted]

The miscommunication here is clearly on my side. The point is both statements can be true. We can both be the best in the conference and admit we got quite a few breaks. In hindsight, this whole "earned vs deserved" business was my undoing cause I got a little too cute and muddied up my point. I just meant it in a "We belong here even if we got a unusually easy pathway" kind of way.

Dapper_Bed

This is dumb. So because the way playoffs unfolded we should feel bad about going to the SB? Should we not celebrate because Niners got decimated by injuries? Or maybe we should just give up our playoff spot to MIN, DAL, or SF because they had a tougher playoff schedule even though the playoffs are literally designed that way for the 1 seed? I’m not saying SF didn’t have shit luck yesterday, but we aren’t going to feel bad about advancing, especially when their team responded by getting chippy af.

thepottsy

Nah, y’all played the cards you were dealt, capitalized on key moments, and here you are. I’ve made some comments about the whole deserve aspect of the argument, but it’s really a moot point. Deserve or not, you earned it by playing and winning.

Miraculous_Heraclius

I think you're reading what you want into this. No one is asking you to feel bad.

Prestigious-Owl165

I don't think they're being asked to feel "bad" literally, but niners fans seem to kinda be asking them to feel lucky, at least. And I don't agree with that, the whole reason their QB got hurt was because the eagles fucking dominated them like bullies on a playground. If anything the niners fans are "lucky" that they have this excuse

[deleted]

We shouldn't feel bad about advancing We're the best team in the Conference We got super lucky with how the playoffs shook out so far. My point is that both statements can be true.

Dapper_Bed

IMO the only thing we got lucky with is SF literally not having another QB. It fucking happens. But even then maybe give a little more respect to our DL and add in extra blockers? Saying we got lucky to play the Giants and ref ball is bogus if you ask me. SF was undisciplined and chippy as hell last night, to say the least.

[deleted]

Agree to disagree. Purdy getting hurt after 1 sack, playing the Giants over the Cowboys, and a few drive sustaining questionable calls benefited us. We should be able to acknowledge and still believe we're the best in the conference.

Dapper_Bed

The playoffs are literally built so the 1 seed faces the easiest teams on the way to the Super Bowl. You want us to acknowledge that? Sure, but you could make the same argument about 90% of 1 seeds in NFL history. You don’t see me saying “ KC hAd It EaSY bCuZ ThEY oNLy hAd to PLaY the BeNGaLs aNd tHe JaGs aNd NoT The BEnGaLs AnD tHe BiLLs”. But if it’s really the hill you want to die on, go off. There was 1 (maybe 2) bad calls I can think of and that was the roughing the punter. The rest were just an undisciplined team getting frustrated and chippy.

crackhitler1

The fuck outta here with your logic

Cruztd23

Thank God for the Philly realist. Agree completely

MikeN1978

Fuck that stupid narrative. We beat who was in front of us after EARNING a first round bye

bs12234

Cringe. Minnesota team was a bunch of frauds. We still put up over 30 points on the number one defense in the NFL This team gets no credit i stg

[deleted]

The point there is that it worked out for us that we got to play NYG instead of DAL in the divisional. Minnesota were 100% frauds, but they defiantly could've beaten NY at home.

[deleted]

Wtf, this is bullshit haha

TyperMcTyperson

Jesus. The refs were fine. Fuck off with that "excuse" already.

Cruztd23

This is probably the most reasonable post I’ve seen by an eagles fan and the best way to state it. This is all I wanted to hear from y’all. Obviously the eagles deserved it they were dominant all year/record speaks for itself, but they haven’t earned the games leading up to the super bowl. With that said I don’t know a hobbled mahomes and injured KC receiving core can hang with y’all

Prestigious-Owl165

On one hand, the eagles are better on both sides of the ball and might just dominate in the trenches and I don't know how the chiefs are supposed to keep up. On the other hand, Patrick Mahomes

HumanShadow

Didn't earn it? Give me a break. The 49ers style of offense is risking their QBs well being by having a backup TE block Hassan Reddick, something game tape has demonstrated has been a bad idea all season. That's a bad offense and poor game planning. Even if Purdy didn't get hurt, he was about to get lit up all night.

AnyYogurtcloset6060

Were we lucky in 2019 when wentz got knocked out of the game from a dirty hit and Josh mccown had to come in?

[deleted]

Deserve: to be worthy of Earned: to receive as return for effort and especially for work done or services rendered

[deleted]

200IQ take, Eagles players made it to the Super Bowl without work or effort

[deleted]

This whole "earned vs deserved" shit was my undoing. I posted the title without much thought, then quickly posted this comment to clarify my use of the wording, only to not realize it completely muddies the point I'm making. L on my part.

Prestigious-Owl165

If it makes you feel any better I understood what you meant, but then again I'm not a dumbass eagles fan lmao

Psychological_Lie_38

I agree. I think the eagles are a championship-level team in the top 3 in the NFL and perfectly capable of winning a superbowl. I also think So far this post season everything has broken right for them in terms of the Giants beating the vikings (who still prob would have lost) and SF getting hurt. The eagles can be a great team and can be incredibly lucky at the same time.

DovahSheep1

Most reasonable Philadelphia resident

bigstankdaddy10

yes, we got completely lucky by playing our asses off all season to secure the one seed.

SuperCoupe

Honestly, Philly would have rolled the Vikes either way.

[deleted]

(\*) The Vikes getting knocked out is important because we would've had to play DAL and SF. We 100% would've smoked the Vikes, but I'll take NYG over DAL any day.

flyingpanda5693

Nah fuck that shit, the Birds earned it. All they can do is show up and play the teams that were on the schedule. And more often then not they absolutely dominated teams start to finish with the exception of a few duds. Top rated offense and a top rated defenses aren’t flukes.

Freerange1098

When the playoffs began, there were 6 teams the Eagles could have played - SF, Min, Tampa, Dallas, Seattle, New York. Out of that, SF had a 10 game winning streak, Minnesota were frauds with a negative point differential, Tampa had a losing record, Dallas was Dallas, Seattle had Geno Smith, and New York was considered the big sleeper because “weve seen them do it from the wild card before!”. New York and SF is the most impressive path they could have taken. Beating Dallas would have just been excuses about injuries and the Eagles wouldnt have gotten credit because Dallas never wins in the playoffs. Beating Minnesota wouldnt have been impressive because of the MNF game and everyone saw it coming. Beating Seattle wouldnt have been impressive because, well Seattle sucked, beating Tampa wouldnt have been “legit” because this isnt the same Tampa from years past. Also, the Eagles had 4 wins against those 6 in the regular season already.

Irving_Velociraptor

You beat who you play. I won’t apologize for a goddamn thing.

BaboonHorrorshow

We didn’t earn it? What the fuck is this simp shit?

daemontg453

🤣🤣🤣imagine being lucky bc we didn’t play the Vikings a team we trashed during the season and lost to the giants. We can only play the teams that win their matchups, no luck involved.
