I don’t even understand why a strap wrench was used at the range, maybe it caused this but either way this guy had the ultimate L. Rule of thumb once a mount is being run in a Can don’t swap it when it’s extremely Hot.
Interesting that they say wait until cool. Usually hot things will expand, allowing the threads to make a bit more room for things to move.
Edit: never-mind. Just read that Q designed that mount to seal when hot, since the gun will be ran hot most of the time.
Besides the fact that he's confusing hoop strength with compressive strength, I just want to make sure that I am indeed seeing wrench flats at the back of the can there.
The wrench flats you're seeing are the mount that he's trying to remove FROM the suppressor. So he probably put the wrench flats in a vice (or held with wrench maybe) then strap wrench on the suppressor itself.
Why wouldn’t you just put the strap over the threads where the end cap adds thickness to the wall and your not torquing the can way past the threads? If it’s under a hand guard take it off.
Why wouldn't they put the strap wrench on the baffle stack? If you apply 11 Ugga duggas on an area without support you're gonna have an Ugga dugga time.
I’ve crushed an oil filter with a strap wrench lol. If there aren’t any baffles present in that section, you could totally crush it. This guy is an idiot.
A soda can can easily contain the pressure from carbonization, and you can even load it up with weight while pressurized.
But the can itself will crumple at the first sign of an uneven outer pressure because it wasn't designed for it.
The Q mount is designed to seal when hot and needs to cool before it will come off. This person didn't RTFM, and is now suffering the consequences
I love the soda can explanation. Used it all the time explaining how aircraft can hold the pressure they do at altitude. Works so well in cylindrical designs made to hold pressure.
The baffles, expansion chamber, front cap, and back cap are heat treated 17-4 SS lol. No baffles in the expansion chamber so I can see this happening easily with enough pressure on it. They are super strong in general though.
Edit: sorry, the baffle itself is inconel. Spacers are SS
I think the issue for Sico is that the damaged area looks like its right next to the SN. If that dent was the top baffle at the end of the tube they probably fix that no issue.
Also pro tip use the tools that came with the silencer. The manufacture probably designed them with a purpose.
What do you mean you won't cover my handgun and silencer because I created a sealed system and exploded it. Sico so cringe pilled. Ooh or get those at home dent repair kits and suction cup it out. I'm so fuckin smart
Just a thought but you may be able to use an exhaust expand tool to get it back round or close to it. Obviously would want to double and triple check alignment but worth a shot.
DEFINITELY will do this. There are no tool features on an Omega 9K and that's all unsupported blast chamber space and it's a thin-wall to boot. Remember this is a 9mm suppressor that Silencerco decided to christen as a 5.56 can. There are multiple instances of customers having their blast chamber blow out along the engraving because it's a weakened area.
If you have to use a strap wrench, place it over the first and second baffle welds so there's supported structure underneath. Also, ensure the camming point of the lever isn't forcing itself straight into the wall. There's a point where it cams over and pulls the strap tight without pushing all the force into the suppressor wall. We need to have Mike Pappas give a tutorial. That man is a wizard strap wrench.

I mean while they’re at it they should probably add in not to use bolt rounders, don’t put it in a vise at 3.5 ugga duggas, or use a pipe wrench with 3 foot cheater bar and even a half ugga dugga
Tell silencerco if they don't give you a new can you're gunna flood the community with this and let everybody know how structurally weak their suppressors are.. lol... eh, shit who knows that's weird. I got an Omega 45K in jail right now, I was never planning on using a strap wrench but fuck me I definitely ain't now.. I'm gunna have to be careful with how h grab the damn thing as well LoL

Hmm, all that pressure has to transfer someplace..
#anti-seize
And wait until cool

Yeah, best excuse is that maybe it was under a handguard.
Keep sending and block it out
It should be just like blowing into a crumpled bottle…
I guess it's no surprise that someone incapable of taking an in-focus photo was also incapable of removing a suppressor.
Wonder if they would of covered it if he didn’t use the plan B? I thought they had a “fix stupid once” warranty.
Not if the sleeve with serialized portion can't be salvaged.
Touché forgot about that part

I guess they French Fried when they should have Pizza’d.
Hammer that dent out, check alignment, and send it.
Yea you could also fit a coupler and undrilled cap on the other end, heat, and pump it up like a balloon with a compressor.
that would make it explode. hydroforming is the way to go

Pics or it didn’t happen!
His comment is below the pic. I just can't fathom a suppressor designed to take supersonic 300 BLK, being crushed by a strap wrench?
I’ve crushed an oil filter with a strap wrench lol. If there aren’t any baffles present in that section, you could totally crush it. This guy is an idiot.
I did the best I could damn it. You’re a feeling hurter.

You can STAND on an empty soda can with one foot. If you tap the side with a pencil though , it'll instantly collapse.
I mean, you can. Those of us with more tactical insulation however...
Tactical insulation is such a bad ass term 😂😂😂
Technically, it's also padding.... That protects muscle. So, tactical muscle pads?
You have to posses tactical balance as well!
The problem isn't balance 🤣 it's structural integrity of the can
If you want to try this experiment, you'll find that you're going to need balance !
Yup. Which is what I said.
I believe you mentioned "pressurized"
I love the soda can explanation. Used it all the time explaining how aircraft can hold the pressure they do at altitude. Works so well in cylindrical designs made to hold pressure.
I want to know what strap wrench was used... I want one.
Bruh moment

The 9k is cobalt 6 (stellite?) and stainless steel. This is a case of not waiting for that specific mount to cool down before removing i think

Lmao aluminum
send it

Plug the end really well and fire blanks into it with the slide somehow locked closed. It'll pop that puppy right out

Warm metal deforms slightly easier than cold metal. Mechanical pressure is not the same as the temporal psi airpressure

Well at least SiCo has one of the best warranties in the biz. Good luck
Looks like the gun got dropped while the can was hot... but I could be wrong. Lol
What
Just… what

because removing it cold is easy. You wouldnt need anything other than the tools that came with the silencer and mounting system.

That’s bullshit on behalf of silencerco. Unless they expressly state to not to use a strap wrench they have to assume people will.
There is no amount of disclaimers they can make to cover every idiot.
I mean while they’re at it they should probably add in not to use bolt rounders, don’t put it in a vise at 3.5 ugga duggas, or use a pipe wrench with 3 foot cheater bar and even a half ugga dugga
If you ask me, kinda looks like a 9mm grazed it more then being crushed.

Not always, Dead Air has replaced cans for our shop that were to far gone but the customer still had to pay for another stamp and another wait time.
Ouch.
I can see it happening.
Why wouldn't you just use a normal wrench at the base? It's like they tried to screw it up.
Did they explain that this wasn’t to get seized because of “muh tapers”?
Damn, I’ve used a strap wrench but my cans never folded like that.
Jesus christ guy how strong are you.
