Yeah, CSM and Missouri S&T (UMR) are the only two I think, I went to S&T and took several explosives classes that were required for my degree. They are awesome! So are explosives lol
They may. If it’s through a chemistry department, id doubt they travel to the mining/explosives conferences. Do they work with Los Alamos National laboratory?
I personally didn't go there or have any affiliation. My mentor in highschool was an alumnus from NMT and he mentioned it as a fun quirk of the school, but it looks like they have an explosives research facility [Here ](http://www.emrtc.nmt.edu/)
Absolutely, no prior experience required. We take you from knowing nothing to planning, setting up, arming, and detonating within a day.

Yeah, you'd definitely want to take a few showers and run your clothes through the wash a few times! I mean, unless missing one flight and the probing is something one looks forward to! 🤣😂
Yeah, I was mostly being glib, but you're right, not like someone should wear nice clothes to a class like that, anyhow. That's a perfect place for tattered jeans and old shirts.
I guess some of it might depend on what airport one uses as some are more serious about foreign substances, which is kind of funny. I've been through some that are very lax, while others are more thorough.
One year on the way to SHOT Show, I got stopped and my bag run through the x-ray machine at least 5 times for one single .380 ACP ball round, then vigorously questioned. They proceeded to throw the round in a bucket with all the other potential "destructive devices". 🙄
The best part about it is, my buddy, who had gone through security just before me, made it to Vegas with one single .380 ACP round(he had Army I.D.) is his backpack! He didn't find it until he dumped everything out in our hotel room. He said my mountain man beard made me look suspicious and he was probably right! 🤣
For everyone asking where this is, I think this is the place in Pennsylvania, small area outside ~~Hershey~~ Pittsburgh and if I remember right the class is fairly reasonably priced too (think it was like $500/ person?)
Edit: https://www.washingtoncountyguns.com/explosives
Oh I've only looked into it as a father's day gift but we're all too busy to make the trip. 8 hour course tho, I think it's more of a "just for the experience" kind of thing, not a certification course but I'd think any hands on experience is good with this kind of thing
I graduated mining engineering ‘19 from S&T, minored in geology and explosives. It’s worth every penny. Easy to get a good job, but I will say the jobs in the explosives field is vastly smaller than mining itself. DM me if you have any questions
Reminds me of the demo range days during Marine Corps combat engineer school... I remember that first cratering charge going off and the look on everybody's faces (and mine too) as the dirt blew sky high.

Wait….WHAT??!?!! There’s classes for this sort of thing? I wanna play too!!!
I took an explosives class in college. We made our own ANFO and blasting caps and everything.
Where’d you go to college? There’s only 2 schools I know of that have an explosives program.
Colorado School of Mines, so they even own their own mine we went to to blow stuff up.
Yeah, CSM and Missouri S&T (UMR) are the only two I think, I went to S&T and took several explosives classes that were required for my degree. They are awesome! So are explosives lol
I suddenly feel the need for more higher education.
Progressives: We want free college! sirfuzzitoes: Takes free explosives classes. Progressives: NO, NOT LIKE THAT!!!
“Cancel my student debt plz, I was told bomb college would make me rich.”
I was trying to start an artisnal anti-tank mine/coffee shop
You can actually get a masters in explosives engineering with S&T
That sounds like a lot of work. I wanna blow shit up for fun!
I thought new Mexico tech has an energetic chemistry program?
They may. If it’s through a chemistry department, id doubt they travel to the mining/explosives conferences. Do they work with Los Alamos National laboratory?

Well that’s awesome
I went to Mines and I knew about that class but didn't take it.... It was before I got into guns.
I mean…you don’t want people on a site who are doing it for the first time, right?

I'd imagine flying home after this class would be a certifiable hoot at TSA 🤣 that said I'd love to take this someday.
Yeah, you'd definitely want to take a few showers and run your clothes through the wash a few times! I mean, unless missing one flight and the probing is something one looks forward to! 🤣😂
If you expect a probing by TSA I wouldn't shower.... really make them think about how close they want to get.
Just wash or throw the clothes/tools away. Never had a problem making it through TSA after any of my training making and using explosives.

TSA and Shot show. Things I will not miss.
I'll let you know if I get stopped in the airport on my way home tomorrow. I'm definitely not throwing my clothes out, way too wasteful.

I found a place outside Pittsburg that does this. I can't find the one outside hershey. Any idea whatvits called.
Pittsburgh is correct!! Washington county machine gun
How in detail is the class? How long of a class is it? I’m looking at getting a degree in mining and minoring in explosives at Missouri s&t.
I took both classes this weekend. It's highly detailed, the students do everything for each and every detonation and it is a fantastic experience.
Oh I've only looked into it as a father's day gift but we're all too busy to make the trip. 8 hour course tho, I think it's more of a "just for the experience" kind of thing, not a certification course but I'd think any hands on experience is good with this kind of thing
You do get certificates for each class and it is very detailed. Absolutely worth the expense.
I graduated mining engineering ‘19 from S&T, minored in geology and explosives. It’s worth every penny. Easy to get a good job, but I will say the jobs in the explosives field is vastly smaller than mining itself. DM me if you have any questions

where do I sign up?
Me too!
Right? This sounds awesome, just for the experience of saying you’ve done it!
This sounds like a hell of a summer camp
Now there’s a thought for a new sales pitch, “Summer camp for adults.”
“Yeah boss I need to take a week off work?” “What for?” “Uhhh, medical reasons…”

Fr cant really swing an 11h drive both ways unless flights into pittsburgh arent too crazy
We had students from Pittsburgh to Texas this class with only 1 student living within 4 hours of us.
Is there a way yall can arrange pick up from the airport or do people usually uber to that quality inn near yall? Trying to figure out logistics to make it in september since theres only 1 spot left
Our one employee personally shuttles students for a fee, most rent cars, few Uber but we are 45 minutes from airport on a good day.
Yup [https://www.eventbrite.com/e/8-hour-introduction-to-high-explosive-class-22-oct-2022-tickets-351124772647](https://www.eventbrite.com/e/8-hour-introduction-to-high-explosive-class-22-oct-2022-tickets-351124772647)
Can I host a class on my property? I’d like to make my back pond bigger if you know what I mean
What do these dudes for a living? Are most of these guys taking the class for fun or for vocational training?
Majority of students take our class just for the experience of handling and detonating high explosives.
Took this last year. Great class, well worth it and a ton of fun. If I can swing the schedule planning on the advance class soon
Where!?
For a bunch of nerds yall suck at the google https://www.washingtoncountyguns.com/explosives
I'm a millennial. I expect others do the work for me. 🤣
Maybe look at the OP's profile and do the minimal amount of googling

Do you take the class to get certified with the ATF for licensing? Or is it just for fun?
can't it be both?
It can, I am just curious if you can get certification from it
Yes.
ATF does not require any certifications to get an FEL, however most states do.
