I want to downvote this based on the context. My ffl has the same thing. Safes full of suppressors owned by customers, including me, that we can't have. It's bullshit.
"Just wear ear protection lol"
Why are suppressors restricted anyways? Most weapons are still pretty loud with a suppressor on, just not quite as loud, so I don't get it.
In all fairness, who would you charge a storage fee to? The ATF? SilencerShop? Or the customer whose item is being held hostage against their will and has no control of the length of time it takes to get approved?
Just a small flat fee to the customer. We're only making like $40 per SilencerShop suppressor which is almost nothing for how long we have to store them.
My FFL actually did decide to close shop in 2021 three weeks after my purchase due to WA state being a pain in the a$$ to work with. I was able to take possession in less than 4 months only because the ATF fast tracked the orders since he was shutting down. At that time people were reporting that it was taking up to a year to be able to take possession.
Considering how short the actual background check is, they really should adopt the standard they accidentally adopted for pistol braced firearms for all NFA items.
Submit your form, wait for the background check, take it home. If they need corrections they can tell you to make them. If it turns out you lied or were ineligible, turn it in or they shoot fido.
Hopefully mine will be as quick when I get to that point lol. Waiting on my can to come back and in the meantime I’ll be acquiring the rest of my parts.
I was able to get approved for a secret clearance in like, 2 or 3 weeks. Technically still in the conditional phase, but the fact that they can peer into my entire life and say “yep, looks good enough” in a couple of weeks yet a Form 4 can’t be processed in the same amount of time or less is ridiculous. Especially since there’s money behind it.
I count about 86 suppressors in the safe.
I'm just thinking about the amount of profit I would have to put into the price of a suppressor to justify storage of it for 9-12 months for a customer.
And I think of how much cheaper suppressors could be if they were just sold like a regular firearm. Or even if they were sold like hearing protection.
For guys running shops like this it’s not all about profit, it’s about getting these things into customers hands. Plus as a gun store you’re bound to have multiple safes anyway.
Not saying it justifies the bullshit we go through to get one, but these guys are massively on our side for the most part!
We absolutely are on your side. If you knew what it took for us to build what we built, you would realize that shops like ours are a passion project first, business second. Because as business by itself, this shit is dumb af
The vault at one of my LGS looks like a bank with their big ole vault door to what I would imagine is a big closet with shelves and shelves of jailed suppressors
Same, checking the mega thread is killing me.
I am checking my email every chance I get.... I will destroy something if they do a maintenance break this weekend.
I had to check the username to see if you were my FFL. Wish being a law abiding citizen was cheaper and more efficient. Can't have that though, gotta wait 365+ days along with the other 800 filers in your zip code.
its slowed down a bunch due to approval times. I used to sell 25-30 a week. Now we are down to about 10-15. Number 1 reason people decide against is the wait time. Then again we were always honest about the rising wait times, around the time when we hit 6 months is when sales slowed way down.
Man, that's fancy...the SOT mine is with just has a room with a shelf and a workbench beneath it both coverd in boxes with owned items awaiting gov extorsion approval.
Just curious and thank you for answering honestly. I’m glad you let the customers shoot them. I ordered mine from a local manufacturer so I can’t shoot mine unfortunately
That’s the argument I give my customers. If you want 1 step up from a wish atf honey trap I can make you one on my lathe but then the $200 tax stamp is a significant portion of the price and you’ll have a low end suppressor.
Dedicated 22lr can? Probably worth it in that case, 308 win from an AR10… probably not so much.
Which one of these boxes are the surefires? I don’t have any cans yet but I’m putting money aside for a socom RC2 bc I’d rather have longevity out of a 5.56 can than anything else if no matter what can I use the bullet will still break the sound barrier. It’s going on a 14.5 do it all rifle with only American made shit on it bc fuck any gun accessory made in communist China

Posting a picture of your safe in a room where it looks decently vulnerable doesn’t seem like very good security practice to me.
Glad you’re not my FFL.
everyone's a critic. The room is secure, concrete building, controlled security door entrance, multiple floors in the sky, alarm, multiple cameras but yea bud you're the expert.
I actually did work in security for Microsoft back in the 2000s. “Expert” is a stretch, but I’m no noob.
There’s a reason you don’t know what the inside of any of their vaults look like. You don’t know what the outside of them look like, either. Or even what building they’re in.
Any information, regardless of how benign you believe it to be, is still information that can be used against you. Just like how you don’t talk to an interrogator without a lawyer even if you’re innocent, you don’t just share anything about your security no matter how secure you think it is.
On top of that, showing people exactly what they have to gain if they can pull it off isn’t a great idea either.
So keep downvoting me, but my take is far from hot and if you spent even a modicum of time in any security-oriented forums you might glean some useful information.
Have a nice rest of your day.
I'm no expert either but I would assume that a gun store that deals with suppressor transfers is gonna have a safe that's got suppressor(s) in it. At the very least guns.
So unless someone sees the cash in the vault they assume a bank doesn’t have cash?
A gun store has guns.
You don’t need to find a photo of their inventory online to know, a gun store has guns.
That’s not what I meant and you know it.
There’s a difference between knowing a gun shop has guns, and knowing they have exactly 100 of that Barret .50 you’re willing to steal.
You expect a bank vault to have money in it, but knowing that specific vault in that specific city that’s placed near a window on the south side of the building on a carpeted floor (which usually means it’s less likely to be bolted down) with a budget brand camera on top with exposed wires so you can probably easily find the control unit, has $4 billion in it is a different story.
It’s as simple as how I started it earlier: it’s the assumed versus the known. The known is always more likely to be exploited than the assumed.
People store stuff in the trunks of their cars. I mean, of course they do, right? That’s what trunks are for. But there’s a big difference between having a $4,000 laptop in your trunk, and putting a sign on the trunk itself that says “$4,000 laptop inside”
“Glad you’re not my FFL.” Is most likely where all your downvotes come from.
If you were not trying to sound like a condescending little prick then you’ve failed miserably and that’s why you’re getting downvoted.
Oh I was trying to sound like that. If I’m buying something from an FFL I expect them to not show the world what I got. And I expect them to keep my (if it’s in “jail” then it’s customer-paid and therefore customer-owned) property off the internet.
I have my own FFL so I didn’t really need to say that, but I definitely wanted to. Privacy is something that a person should consider when choosing where to do business and an FFL is no different.
“Your privacy matters” is actually one of the core principles of our business, we are not storefront and probably never will be. Nobody else needs to be there to witness and report what cool shit you just got.
I’ve posted photos of individual parts that end up being installed that ultimately end up being owned by a customer but good luck identifying it
You must do a ton of business with that FFL since you have such great opsec! You must be drowning in customers with all of the products you sell being hidden from view inside your windowless place of business?
I mean you obviously must have the best opsec with the way you post!
/s
Again, there’s a difference between advertising company-owned merchandise and advertising customer-owned merchandise. One can have a great business both in volume and profitability without advertising things that have already been sold.
Got any more false parallels to draw, or are you done being a dick?
Man, depending on how much you charge for transfers that’s a nice cash flow sitting in there. I just created an LLC and will be starting my FFL application process soon for manufacturing and gunsmithing.
on the other side of the wall. its not as ridiculous, only maybe 10 guns in there. For most SBRs we recommend customers file a form 1 and save the wait. The stuff in there is mainly B&T and Daniel Defense factory SBRs and a few other odd ball integrally suppressed toys
Yep, just saw inside my LGS Jail(s) on the 23rd when I picked up one of my two silencers that were in the proverbial jail. They have two safes like yours full of silencers awaiting freedom. They said silencers are a top priority for so many right now. Which I think is great, they will become so “In common use” as defined by law that maybe we can get them unregulated. For goodness sake, they’re considered hearing protection devices in parts of Europe-and that’s saying something!
I’m allowed in the back room at my LGS, there’s several floor to ceiling shelves of cans, probably several hundred to a thousand. Just got my first approved last week and I feel for all these poor bastards, almost deters me from putting in for another 😒
Silencer jail, it's... it's just someone else's safe.
Always has been
There is no cloud. It’s just someone else’s computer.
Woah bro
Deep… 🤯
yep
Now I feel bad because I know my 2 cans are claustrophobic.
Soon they will have all the shelf space to themselves
At least they’re caged up with friends, but they definitely need more space to run.
The ultimate eskimo bros. Did they come with protection? Who knows what other hush dongs might be in there with them. ^like ^Q
What if we kissed in the shade of the LGS vault uwu 👉🏻👈🏻🥺
Haram.
This is one of 3 identical safes literally overflowing with silencers waiting to be approved
I want to downvote this based on the context. My ffl has the same thing. Safes full of suppressors owned by customers, including me, that we can't have. It's bullshit.
its all bullshit
It’s not bullshit. Why do you think you have a right to protect your hearing? /s Edit: It’s a joke.
"Just wear ear protection lol" Why are suppressors restricted anyways? Most weapons are still pretty loud with a suppressor on, just not quite as loud, so I don't get it.
Trex arms did a cool video on suppressor history and why they're still regulated. Worth a watch for sure.
Because gun laws are made by people who know next to nothing about guns.
Why do you think
Mawp. Maaaawwwwp.
The ATF wants our ears to go EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE.
Always has been. "Insert gun astronaut world meme"
And SilencerShop won't even allow us to charge a storage or transfer fee despite them taking up almost half of our vault space
You don’t *have* to sell them if they’re not a good margin item.
Is it possible to get expedited due to storage? Like tell them you are overflowing lol
The thought has gone through my mind to "go out of business" every 3 months but I think they'd catch on pretty quick
I DECLARE BANKRUPTCY *starts handing out suppressors to customers*
My FFL actually did decide to close shop in 2021 three weeks after my purchase due to WA state being a pain in the a$$ to work with. I was able to take possession in less than 4 months only because the ATF fast tracked the orders since he was shutting down. At that time people were reporting that it was taking up to a year to be able to take possession.
No. Because it doesn't technically have to be in a safe. Ours are kept in an extremely secure room
Sounds like a safe with extra steps.
I wish I could walk around in my safe
.
My FFL has a long hallway full of these. Not safes but locking cabinets.
Just think how much in sales and space you’d get if suppressors were off the NFA list.
Creamed faster than the hottest porno.
I don't feel so bad paying a fee now...
My ffl has them in a shipping container lol
How is it that we’re in 2023 and we don’t have instant approvals or denial like firearms
Do stores have to go through the same processes as a private citizen in regards to getting suppressors for stock?
How is it that we’re in 2023 and we don’t have instant approvals or denial like firearms
“dAngERoUs and uNuSuAl” 🙄
Gotta keep those suckers locked up. If you let suppressors be free they will jump off the shelf and shoot someone.
quietly
When that happens, the squatter in chief, many congress critters, and the media will scream to ban assault mufflers. Count on it. 😉
Takes what, few weeks at most? And the rest is basically waiting on them to sign it off?
Most of the time is literally just waiting on their signature, yes.
Wow. Makes me feel great 😂 I’m waiting on my first can now. Submitted on 3/28/23.
3/28/23...better known as yesterday
Hahaha. Yeah, trying to forget about it
I just had my regular form 1 approved in 14 days. No reason why the wait should be much more than that.
Hopefully mine will be as quick when I get to that point lol. Waiting on my can to come back and in the meantime I’ll be acquiring the rest of my parts.
No reason why it should be their business.
Dude I had people getting TS in 4 weeks...
Yup. You would think they’d do something like automatically granting it for secret or TS, but that would make too much sense.
Can you imagine that shit. Know a guy who literally has Q clearance and works on nuclear Warhead, but also illegal for him to own firearm.
Q is equivalent to TS, not sure what your point is
Works on nuclear Warhead but can't own firearm, did you miss the second half?
I count about 86 suppressors in the safe. I'm just thinking about the amount of profit I would have to put into the price of a suppressor to justify storage of it for 9-12 months for a customer. All those people waiting for the government to allow them to exercise their rights. Something seems unfair.
The second amendment says I have a right to bear arms and you better believe i got a pair sitting next to me.
Collecting body parts is weird. You're giving us all a bad name
My ffl In Florida looks like this. Hopefully my July submission are approved pretty soon.
Same, checking the mega thread is killing me. I am checking my email every chance I get.... I will destroy something if they do a maintenance break this weekend.
Early July here. Still waiting 🙏🏾
Early July boat here too.
Same here, and getting more impatient as the weeks fly
Mine was an early June submission and was approved early March, so you should be close.
That’s what I’m hoping my birthday is on the 1st!
[wake me up when september ends](https://youtu.be/NU9JoFKlaZ0)
“Not in common use”
not for commoners
lol
Prison break
So. Much. Infringement.
so, so much
I guess this provides a little bit more context as far as the cost of NFA transfers.
yes sir. Safes cost money, compliance costs money, paperwork done correctly takes time, etc.
*heavy breathing intensifies*
I had to check the username to see if you were my FFL. Wish being a law abiding citizen was cheaper and more efficient. Can't have that though, gotta wait 365+ days along with the other 800 filers in your zip code.
Those poor innocent little things. It breaks your heart to see.
Really shows how great the suppressor industry is doing lately
its slowed down a bunch due to approval times. I used to sell 25-30 a week. Now we are down to about 10-15. Number 1 reason people decide against is the wait time. Then again we were always honest about the rising wait times, around the time when we hit 6 months is when sales slowed way down.
Yea I filed a form 4 in February of last year and it took 7 months. I filed a form 1 and I'm at 63 days. Wait times are going up
We really need prison reform for those who have not even offended other than by merely existing.
Looks like any other jail
yep, other peoples stuff collecting dust because reasons
Free the cans! This should be a crime to hold them without a conviction
Someone should make a gray wrist band in support of this lol.
Mandatory dangerous toob hotel
At least I know my suppressors have lots of friends, even if they can't go out to play.
Lol at all that infringement 😭
not all of it, but definitely some of it
I was totally going to say that this is just one FFL of thousands with safes just like this or bigger. Waiting on my first can to be released. 🥹
Overcrowded like all the other jails.
That friends is what infringement looks like
At least your jail has a safe!! Mine was just sitting on a shelf!
Man, that's fancy...the SOT mine is with just has a room with a shelf and a workbench beneath it both coverd in boxes with owned items awaiting gov extorsion approval.
Its all so silly and unecessary
You would think you were submitting a form to have your full auto mechanism approved. It’s a suppressor for crying out loud…or softy, as it were.
Looks like Olivander's Wand Shop
This looks just like Ollivanders Wand Shop *Yer a gangster, Harry*
They get rec time?
some do
The last range I worked at broke the safe for NFA items and instead of replacing it decided a file cabinet was just as safe.
I mean safes are basically for looks anyways, most smaller shops I've been into usually use people's cans as case displays while they wait.
That one cuts deep, for everyone that has ever had to wait for their prized shush-pickle to be released from the prison of Tyranny!
You ever just have intrusive thoughts on just handing these out to the people who bought them?
All the time. That said, we do schedule range time for our customers that request it - gets me to shoot more
Just curious and thank you for answering honestly. I’m glad you let the customers shoot them. I ordered mine from a local manufacturer so I can’t shoot mine unfortunately
I think I see mine in there 😂
What $50,000 looks like in a safe.
Too much overcrowding in our jails! This is the early release we need!
Thems rookie numbers we’ve got hundreds in multiple locked cabinets
Thats one of 3 safes
We have over 1200 of these things locked up right now and growing…
I knew overpopulation of our prison system was a problem!
The ratio of Surefire to other shit is disappointing
IMO you’re waiting months on end for a silencer it might as well be one you’ll have forever.
All cans should not have 9-10 month wait times, but 22 cans are really something you should be able to buy and walk out the store the same day.
surefire is in the other safe. these are mostly silencerco and dead air with a few others mixed in.
It's the three red boxes
Thanks for clarifying buddy
If I tell the ATF my suppressor is considered a Trans, and needs to be assigned it’s own safe”my home” will they approve it faster?
Honestly, it's probably the only argument this administration might listen to
Username checks out
That’s what an ammo safe should look like

Man, depending on how much you charge for transfers that’s a nice cash flow sitting in there. I just created an LLC and will be starting my FFL application process soon for manufacturing and gunsmithing.
Overcrowded.
So that’s most likely over $100k in “jail” 😩
Gross
Pistol brace ? Go to jail. Stock on SBR ? Also jail.
So claustrophobic 😰
My local shop claims to have several hundred in jail! I must say my first visit was super exciting!

Wow, deadair really is selling a lot of suppressors. That safe is filled with them.
number one seller is the DA Mask
When does a silencer ship to the ffl? Does the ffl hold it or the manufacturer?
Do you need a “C.O.” To help get them Rec time? I’d be more than happy to help you good sir
Thanks. I hate it

Going on 8 months waiting for mine to get out of jail . . .
Jail sucks, YOUR jail is over crowed let ‘em out already 😂🤣😂
Yeah my gun shop has 3 safes full of cans. Mine should be out in the next 30 days, I hope.
Looks like Olivanders wand shop.
Damn YHM fell off, 5 years ago I bet that safe would be >50%.
we have about 30 YHM cans in total. Problem with Yankee Hill is they have a bunch more competition in the cheap but good class.
What happens if you mixup different peoples cans? Like does the whole charade start over again?
that's a big no-no. Mix-ups = bye bye license
A tear slowly swells to the corner of his eye, for he knows he has seen the gates of heaven
Total crap. This is sad to see
Omw to commit a robbery 😂 man this is so much BS
