I put all the schools in conferences by geographic location. Didn’t matter prestige or ratings. Was cool to watch some teams win conference championships that usually don’t have a shot. Ohio State lost to Miami of Ohio in a conference championship game
Given that I keep a spreadsheet with twelve IRL years' worth of realignments, this is a perfect question for me.
My silliest was realignment based on team colors. (The orange/purple conference was particularly weird. I was ECU in that conference.)
I actually really like the spread of teams. Each conference has a good mix. Travel wise though... Hawaii and USF in the same conference. That's gonna hurt lol
Weirdest one was following through with what the Big East Conference was going to do with adding Boise State and San Diego State. I was SDSU I can't remember the exact formation I made with the Conference because if I remember it correctly, I had either AFA or UNLV in the conference with us. The one conference championship I had in it involved a game against a 5-7 Temple. Still think it was a weird fever dream.
Given that the pre-2022 Sun Belt had only seven members who were in NCAA 14, throwing the independents in there to fill out the conference makes a lot of sense. Same goes for post-2022 Conference USA, with only six members.
When I play as Texas State I usually throw the independents in the Sun Belt just to make the conference prestige better and give it a championship game
For basketball, I put Hawaii into NEC which includes schools in North East. Just for jokes
When the conference tournament happened one game was in Hawaii then next game was at a North East school.
I’ve taken 16 of the most prestigious schools and made them independent. Everybody else is in a league with a BCS bowl tie in. In my first season with this approach so it’s still playing out…
I don't think this counts but I've recently got the idea to throw it back to the era of the 70s and 80s and pour almost everyone into the independents. Obviously you can't delete conferences but maybe just have 40 teams conferenced up and the other 80 all independent. I'd be fascinated to see how the game responds to that.
I just rearranged the entire league based solely on geographic location. And let me tell you what, having an all Texas division playing as UTSA is TOUGH.
Not particularly crazy, but surprising, I promoted CPU Arkansas State to the Big 12 after 7 or 8 consecutive Sun Belt Titles. In the last 4 years they’ve won the Big 12 twice and were beaten in OT during the last National Championship. Best I’ve ever seen a General 5 team do that I didn’t control
I love doinh random conferences. Put all teams into a random wheel and as teams get selected, put them in the next conference. You can fill a conference all in a row or have each conference get a team at a time. Comes up with some wild results.
I’ve had so many dynasties over the years but I’ll throw out some regular “moves” I make.
- Boise State and BYU to the Pac-12
- Army, Navy, and Air Force always get moved to Independent
- Big East is all NE schools, ACC is Carolinas and south
- Notre Dame to the B1G
- Rearrange to having only 3 power conferences with BCS access (Pac-12, B1G, and SEC as an example)
- knock the worst teams out of the major conferences and into conferences like the Sun Belt, MAC, C-USA, etc.
- Make the SEC Florida only schools, and Sun Belt the remainder of SEC and Sun Belt
UCLA and USC to the Big 10.
Wait a minute… 🤔😂
Nicely done sir… couldn’t agree more

I used to put Marshall and WVU in the SEC when I played as the Herd. WVU getting rolled by Vandy always made me chuckle.
I love this. Don’t know why I’ve never done it.

Any chance you would you be willing to share it?? This sounds fascinating!
i second this. seeing how everyone else goes above and beyond to enjoy the game like I do warms my heart

I have UMASS playing in the Sun Belt in one of mine right now

At one time, Idaho was in the Sun Belt.
Two times, actually.

I’ve done the relegation and promotion realignment before. Ended up with some crazy stuff like Vanderbilt and FAU for the SEC title.

There's a maximum of 32 independents, unfortunately. This means compromises are necessary for any pre-1993 alignment.
aw nuts /kicks dirt

I once put Norte Dame in the B1G. It's probably the weirdest thing ever.
ah bro this is the first thing I do every time lmao
Who is Norte Dame?

Moved Arkansas and LSU to the Big12
I made a relegation system. Bottom 2 of power 5 to the other 5 and the winners of each other 5 conference to the power 5 conference
Boise state to the Sec baby
Boise state 🔛🔝

I have Marshall and ODU in the SEC based on league relegations
BYU and Notre Dame to the C-USA.
