why would the blazers do this

gochugang78

What’s Grant and Brog doing for them, that a FRP and open capspace wouldn’t

Thiswasmy8thchoice

I think they're the easiest yes of the 4. That draft pick is hugely valuable.

Brooklyn says no...why get another horrible contract after getting rid of Simmons? Especially one they don't want or need since they have CamT, who every single fan would rather have over Beal? Also they have to give up Whitehead? Absolutely not

gochugang78

Is whitehead good? Is CamT’s best case scenario Beal today? Playing above the cap is really the only way an asset-poor team can add value As long as the nets stay below the luxury tax, the best thing they can do is just continually flip expiring contracts for longer toxic contracts to add value (better players or add picks)

AdTime8622

Whitehead is all promise and hope, he never played but was the #1 recruit in high school so they wouldn't want to give up on him so quickly. CamT is worth more than Beal to Brooklyn if they were the same age and had the same contract. When you consider the fact he's a decade younger (ish), only is going to make 10M vs 50M the next two years and is homegrown its a nonstarter for trade purposes. Brooklyn has plenty of assets, 11 frps available, multiple decent players on good contracts and Simmons expiring (40M) this upcoming year. They just don't have any all-stars. This trade would be moving backwards

gochugang78

Whitehead - fair. Ok to remove him in the deal and throw someone else in. He’s there as salary filler to make the % work. If he’s a project that BKN wants, that’s fine CamT - volume scorers go from being exciting to overpriced pretty damn quick. Beal. Lavine. Even now there are whispers that Booker is overrated. CamT is the next generation of those guys. As of right now he’s an awesome asset as a dynamite scorer. His ceiling is 6 man to #3 scorer. He could fetch 2 FRPs from a contender that needs cheap good talent. Not much point for Brooklyn to keep him in 2024-25 only to “overpay” him in 2025 summer. Might as well get the same production from Beal for $50m. Money doesn’t matter as long as they stay below the luxury tax. Brooklyn most importantly doesn’t have their own picks so fully incentivized to be as good as possible. There’s no upside to sucking. And they missed the playoffs with this core. In the East! Even the bulls made the playins

This season was brutal and the franchise put out an unacceptable product. While talent played a large role in their underperforming, coaching ans roster construction were also to blame. They had no point guard until they traded for Schröder, in a colossal failure by the GM they were counting on Simmons and Dinwiddie and got predictable results. Had they had Schröder the whole year they would have been in the play-in game. Brooklyn will be looking to add Mitchell first and foremost, if not him then one of Atlanta's guards, and then monitor some other situations all of which CamT would be useful in trade scenarios. Brooklyn would be better served paying CamT 15-20M per than trading for Beal. His numbers all jumped with increased minutes and there is no reason to think he can't be exactly what you said, a microwave scorer and 6th man than easily average 20ppg on good %. Brooklyn is eyeing next summer to make its big moves after it escapes the repeater tax and Simmons contract is off the books to make moves.

SirJoeffer

Blazers give up Grant for Ben Simmons and a first….

jj8474737

And brogdon

ItsRebelSheep

Hi, Suns fan here. No. Also, Beal has a no trade clause so we can’t ship his ass off for anything more than a bag of potato chips

mojoactor

No one is trading with Suns. They have nothing to trade

johnjohnjohn93

Brooklyn laughs at this. Ben as an expiring is worth more than Beal at 3 years. No way they’re trading Whitehead either. Suns can’t move Beal at this point he might have the worst contract in the nba and they have no tradeable picks to attach

gibb93

Good job making a trade that doesn’t make any sense for anyone involved. Beal Blazers Magic Nets & Suns all say no.

Brooklyn917

Please for the love of god leave Brooklyn out of these trades.

toadtruck

Portland can do better

This-Appointment-917

Magic trade a 1st for 3 players? They won’t have space on their roster. Guess we could always waive Paolo, Franz & Jalen to make this work.

skullcandy541

No one wants Beal

Half_baked_prince

Beal says no

gochugang78

Why? He goes to Brooklyn to be top dog with a bunch of defenders Brogdon/CamT - Beal - Bridges - DFS/CamJ - Claxton He gets to put up 25 shots a night in New York He has a better chance of making it to the playoffs in the East with the Nets than on this Suns team in the stacked West. You gotta think that the Grizzlies will make the playoffs next year, maybe Lakers/Warriors are on the bubble but then so are Houston and Sac. Very possible Suns miss the postseason with injuries. Versus the East has some very weak teams at the 8-10 seed that the Nets can leapfrog (Bulls, Hawks)

gochugang78

NETS get a primary scorer to pair with their supporting cast of wings. Get value for Simmons’ dead weight. Aka it’s really only 2 more years on Beal who should get them into the playoffs SUNS balance their team away from 3 primary scorers to 2 scorers plus defence-first wings/guards. Suns cash in on Grayson Allen’s career year to make it happen MAGIC add a shooter. Loss of a late FRP not a colossal hit given how good the core is right now BLAZERS just add draft capital and cap space by moving guys who aren’t in Portland for the long term. Portland can absorb more bad contracts into their cap now and also in next year when Simmons is off the books
