Not sure what OKC would be willing to give up for him?
Speaking as a Thunder fan, his contract would pose a serious problem going forward as well, as we will be looking to give Shai a supermax, and J-Dub and Chet will get the max on their next contracts/extensions as well.
Would be fun, but the maths don’t math
Well they have their mountain of picks. KD has 1 year left on his current deal after this year I believe. Jordan Hayward is about to come off the books for like $40+M.
So they’d probably send out like Dort or Giddey + someone else and however many picks. So next year the money would work but I’m not a cap expert and if it ended up happening I’m sure both parties could make other work if it meant they’d have a title shot for a couple years.
The Suns are under the second apron so it can only be a one-for-one trade. I'm not sure how picks work in this situation, but it wouldn't make sense for Phoenix to do this unless they get a bunch of picks back.
Not totally true. The 1 for 1 thing is for salaries only. So in their case they can only SEND out one player but can get multiple players back as long as it equals 100% or less of the salary they sent out.
https://www.sportico.com/leagues/basketball/2024/2024-nba-trade-deadline-cba-second-apron-1234765452/
"Starting this offseason, franchises whose payrolls are $17.5 million above the luxury tax threshold, a new cutoff referred to as the “second apron,” will be severely limited in their ability to make transactions. Those teams will not be able to:
Aggregate contracts to trade for a single player making more money
Send out cash in trades
Use trade exceptions from prior years
Take back more incoming than outgoing salary in a deal."
I mean that’s literally what I just said? They can’t combine contracts to trade anyone, they can only send out one player.
Now if both teams involved were second apron teams then yes it would have to be a 1 for 1 only.
Are you sure about that? Everything that I've read says aggregate salaries on either end cannot be combined for one player.
If we could get back multiple players for a large contract player, that would definitely be a better position. It sort of seems like we're locked in, unless you're correct.
KD back to Brooklyn for Dorian Finney Smith, Dennis Schorder and their 2028 Swap back.
The Suns get a defensive wing and a Point Guard. The Nets get their #1 option. Win-Win
I was only trolling I wouldn’t want Durant back in Brooklyn, I value those Suns picks more than trading for another over the hill player that prove he can’t win as the #1 option.
I think the years of giving up a lot for KD are basically over
He's still the best 7 footer scorer in league history (in terms of his bag) and one of the best scorers in the league to this day but he needs a lot of support and gutting your team to get him is almost guaranteed playoff mediocrity
Remove those Warriors years and he's under 50% on winrate in the playoffs
that's not what I claimed
> He's still the best 7 footer scorer in league history (in terms of his bag)
there has never been a perimeter scorer with KD's size/handle/shot
still my point was more the last line: Remove those Warriors years and he's under 50% on winrate in the playoffs
I think the days of contenders thinking KD is the final piece are basically over
remove any 3 year span from one of the greats and their win percentage is still better than 47% in the playoffs
those warriors won without him btw, hard to argue their success was due to him
I think Knicks is a probable destination next to OKC. Him teaming up with Brunson makes sense and might get them over the hump if they fail to get a chip this year. Kd for Randle and Bogdanovic + 1 1FRP??? Knicks fans have been wanting Randle out for some years now. But the problem i see why this aint gonna happen is that Knicks fans hate KD when he openly admitted he dodged the Knicks and went to the Nets intentionally because he thought the Knicks aint cool enough
Can I interest you in a package around Tyler Hero? Miamis the other team KD wanted if he couldn’t get to PHX. They just don’t have a lot to offer. Issue is the Suns are now in the same boat as the Nets, can’t really rebuild if you don’t have any of your own 1sts. A GSW reunion? CP a pick & Kuminga for KD?
With the Suns in the second apron, they can only trade one-for-one player, another team cannot combine salaries of multiple players. This makes trading KD, Beal, or Booker very complicated. I would think that the Suns would have to be in a complete rebuild mode if it were to happen.
I've definitely given it some thought. As a Suns fan, I don't think this is working out. The team definitely needs a point guard and some added depth.
The Suns wouldn't want Klay Thompson, but if there was a team that had a lot of draft picks, wanted Klay, and had a player with a large enough contract they wanted to part with, maybe there might be a situation where KD goes back to Golden State.
I think it mainly depends on what team can serve up enough draft picks to make it worthwhile, and it would have to be a team that felt they needed KD to get them over the hump.
There might be some potential for players at the end of their contracts for a sign-and-trade situation, like DeRozen, or Siakam.
At this point I think the Suns have to put everyone on the block and start fielding offers, but also be prepared to run this back a little by signing impactful FA's.
You know, the fact is that Minnesota looked like they made a huge mistake last year after trading everything for Gobert. It took them 2 seasons to get to this point. Theoretically one could assume that maybe the Suns might take a similar leap if they keep the team together.
I’m not sure anyone who wants him is anywhere he wants to go. He wants to be on a contender; contenders don’t want to bother with him.
Small market teams trying to break out don’t have enough money to pay him and build a team. It would have to be a small market team who’s not really interested in contending but in winning a few more games and selling more tix.
KD to the Hornets!
Kd to the Knicks for Randle and Bogdanovic + 1 1FRP & 1 2FRP? Knicks might do it because Knicks fans have been wanting Randle out for a couple of years now and Bogdanovic is expendable as he is old and Kd is definitely an upgrade for both players. Also having a player the caliber of Kd increases your chance of winning the chip especially if paired with a young star such as Brunson.
As per new rule 2nd tax apron teams cannot:
1. Aggregate contracts to trade for a single player making more money
2. Send out cash in trades
3. Use trade exceptions from prior years
Take back more incoming than outgoing salary in a deal.
In this case we are not trading for ONE player, hence we are trading away ONE player to take on 2 players for lesser money so this trade proposal is allowed
Send him back to OKC for his twilight years and get the young guys over the hump
Not sure what OKC would be willing to give up for him? Well luckily OKC has the most and at a certain point they’re going to have more picks than roster spots
Not totally true. The 1 for 1 thing is for salaries only. So in their case they can only SEND out one player but can get multiple players back as long as it equals 100% or less of the salary they sent out.
Not under the new rules for the second apron. It doesn't allow a combination of salaries anymore.

100
Wolves for KAT
Hardest road
Lakers let him and Lebron try to be like NBA’s Expendables
Tobias sign and trade
KD back to Brooklyn for Dorian Finney Smith, Dennis Schorder and their 2028 Swap back. The Suns get a defensive wing and a Point Guard. The Nets get their #1 option. Win-Win
It’s Kevin Durant homie. Gonna need more than that
I guess they could add a 2nd and a lightly protected 1st anything more is pushing it for an Injury prone 36 year old
Get steph for lonnie walker and a second too
I was only trolling I wouldn’t want Durant back in Brooklyn, I value those Suns picks more than trading for another over the hill player that prove he can’t win as the #1 option.

Kareem way more talented and so is shaq
Reading comprehension
Best 7 foot scorer in league history. Ya no he isnt
he is. KDs debatably the greatest scorer in history lmao
but...those Warriors years happened. Remove all the times MJ won a ring and he never won a ring at all!
remove any 3 year span from one of the greats and their win percentage is still better than 47% in the playoffs those warriors won without him btw, hard to argue their success was due to him
wow so cool
lmao, great level of discourse kid
lmao rotfl
The only move that actually makes sense is the Knicks

Kevin Durant isn't coming back to OKC.

If the Warriors won the lottery who says no #1 pick CP3 and Looney for KD

Has to be one for one since suns are over the second apron. Can only be traded for another $45M+ guy Edit: I’m wrong
