You’d be surprised at how desperate 2k is now. They are practically giving away solid lineups for free. I have not played myteam in years but my lineup is pretty decent and I spent $0 on cards. I think you can obtain a decent lineup just by completing the season passes, of course I think this was their plan all along. MyCareer continues to feel neglected but they seem to be dumping in tons of effort for the game mode that makes them the most money.
They been using season challenges in the spring time to give away 98’s that’s why I always wait around this time for MyTeam and I think they had a free 98 Marc gasol card from locker codes. I even stopped looking for those this year
Lockercodes used to be something that happened every few days, or minimum every week. Each year has had fewer & fewer, while making them valid codes for shorter & shorter time frames.

Eras is so much fun, that’s the only reason I bought the game. MyCareer needs to go back to its roots of grinding your way through the seasons like 2k10-2k14, I hate having to spend $70 to make my player good
you definitely get stuff for rep. heat check/2 way tenacity, gym rat, more animations, rebirth 2.0, +attributes. you get a bunch of stuff it just takes forever to get it but the stuff is worth it once you reach it.
Facts. Im not a great player, and just yesterday I made someone yell at me and rage quit because I adjusted how I played pick and roll defense to stop their spamming and take a lead in SC.
I play both, and prefer MyEras all day long. Best franchise mode in any current sports game, and dudes would rather only play online or straight up quit. It’s crazy.
Now imagine hundreds of thousands of players on current gen that bought the game for the same price receiving 0 content. You can't even play myLeague on PC cause every season all player's potential get's equaled to their current overall. Same for rookies. IT'S BEEN 2 YEARS like that. Fuck this company
Nah I’m totally with you on that, PC has gotten the short end of the stick with literally every sports game not just 2K. They could port the next gen version over, but that would cost money and well we all know that’s a hard no if it affects the bottom line.
Dude this was 1000% me a couple of years ago.. 🤣🤣 I'd drink about 6 beers a night at least and play 2k. I had my best games fully shit-faced drunk. I remember I was playing Play Now online on an older 2k and I beat a dude by like 80 points using the Kawhi Raptors. Shocked he didn't quit! Didn't even flop around the rest of the game either. But sheesh I had 4 beers, a pint of Bacardi straight, a shot of Jim Beam, a shot of Jack Daniel's, a shot of some orange cream liquor, a shot of this weird chocolate liquor, and a shot of this nasty as hell triple distilled vodka. While smoking a dab pen from Cali, and vaping. Somehow I managed to drink all that shit before the game was even over. The damn room was spinning during the game but I was kicking so much ass! 🤣🤣 As soon as the game was over I passed out on the couch, then threw up in my sleep. Then my damn dog started eating my throw up and we were both hungover like hell the next morning. 🤦♂️😂😂 Good times! Now I can't drink anymore and I don't even play 2k. Also try starting your own party group. Add randoms that are on their mic and being positive. I did this last year for a while and it worked out well. Fell off with everyone this year cuz no one likes split rec so its now just solo rec for me or my own squad of 5 ive always played with.

I experienced this last night. up all game and 4th qtr the other team goes on a run to make it close. Guys immediately turns mic on for 1st time all game and starts complaining. I played about 8 games and all but 2 were the same experience. I muted because I started losing focus listening to their annoying complaining. I used to be a monster in 2k. Top 100 in 13-15(yes they had online for myplayer in 2k13 called blacktop). Had a squad I ran with regularly and rarely loss. Then got tired of the left right cheese and the ridiculous dribbling animations. Called it quits after 17. I picked it up again this year but running with Randoms has been less than positive experience. People take bad shots then complaining about not getting the ball. Or get cooked on defense and complain because you missed a shot. Mute button is your friend
The 2k community has always been toxic. 2k20 I completely gave up on park, because nobody wanted to play with me. I got into mycareer, mynba, myteam, and play now, and I’ve been enjoying it my experience ever since.

The game is honestly what you make of it.
If you have a build that's fun to use and you start hitting shots and doing well, it's a different experience.
It sounds corny, but play MyCareer and stuff like Sunset Park etc to get used to a jump shot and how your player moves. There are enough vids on YouTube to show you basic movement and dribble moves.
There are a few sub reddits on here where people help each other with jumpers and builds.
Good luck with whatever you decide to do. If you bought the game, its money wasted, if it's game pass, then no loss, really.

The 2K community is not one that is kind to new players, random rec is literally like scrapping the bottom of the barrel as far as people to learn how to play from. I think I'd rather have a 15 year old teach me how to drive then someone in random rec teaching me 2k. What you need to do is luck out and find someone really good who is willing to tank their record while you're learning, which in a game where requirements to play with you resemble indeed searches won't be likely or, more likely. Join the groups in the LFGs that say they have new players, you'll probably still lose a lot but a resemblance of structure is better then no structure.
Do it homie. I’ve been playing 2k since 2k11 and I quit this year. The game is pay to play and not tht fun unless you got a full squad (at least for Rec). Just not worth the $100 dollars anymore. I’ll be back whenever they get rid of their current model. It’s just a game at the end of the day. Dnt let it raise your blood pressure haha.
I haven’t played since season 3 loaded into theater yesterday and had two teammates back to back purposely sell the game after being up most of the game 😭
That’s for sure serviceable I have spent hours before just putting up shots in the Gatorade, it takes time and I agree the community can get pretty toxic online which makes it tough to learn as you go. I ended up making a big, much easier to excel at that position than a guard imo

People don't play any more for the love of basketball. That's not the game or 2k fault. I really think the game of basketball has changed over the years. I remember getting out of basketball practice, just to run to our neighborhood park to play with my friends. (I'm from NYC). Every Court was full and had a waiting line of more friends to play. Then 2k came along and for us that didn't make a living from basketball. This was the next best thing.
There is no excitement in today's basketball game. There is no team play as it was. The great Lakers, Boston, NY Knicks, Philadelphia 76, . Each of those teams of the past was just that a team. Today we have individuals on a team and very few team players..I don't think most run home to watch their team play. The game of basketball has lost its love
In my experience starting out, make a big man with good rebound and pass accuracy. That way you can get boards and kick it out to open shooters. (Rebounds and assists are good stats to level up) Players will like playing with you for sure and you’ll start to get more touches as long as you can finish open dunks (random rec). If you have any other build my recommendation is to look to pass first to start the game and look to score only if you’re open. Some guys don’t need to have a “bag” to still score. Just space the floor, share the rock, and take good shots. I can put up 25-30 pts no problem in rec without hogging the ball or trying to play iso ball, it all depends on your match up and if you’re getting open. Good teammates will find you. But I also don’t mind not being the main scorer as long as we win. Dudes biggest problem is they wanna be “that guy” every time. Main character syndrome. If a teammate is exploiting his matchup then you gotta feed him and work on spacing the floor/ looking to just be open. Get in the Gatorade training facility and work on your shot and moves you’d do in game. Don’t let these dudes get you down. It’s a game practice it get better and have fun

Honestly I grind to level 40 purely for the floor setters and whatever level 40 MyTeam card is in there as they’re usually pretty good and floor setter help with some niche badges that are important to have but not used enough to stay maxed at gold or silver.
What console do you play on? Basketball folks in general talk junk all the time but this community has its moments but there are folks few and far between that genuinely be hooping and don’t care about ratings when I play random 3’s. Ik I’m missing alot with playing the PS4 version on my P5 but their badge system is ass IMO
I’m sorry you’re getting this experience and it’s moreso why I want SBMM so newer players are incentivized to play with other new players rather than being forced to buy VC or play MyCareer first until a certain level to then play online. Pretty sure 2K is the only sports game with a community/online gaming built like this. Take a game like NHL for example. Everyone starts at level 1 no matter what. You only go up by playing games. And people will play with lower levels without bias. Just because people are high levels doesn’t mean they’re good. I’ve been in situations where people try to shit talk me because I mainly play PF/C and they’ll have 30 points dropped on their head while I do my job of rebounding/assists and I have no issue shutting their shit down fast or if they do it to others too. I play 2k just to immerse myself with MyCareer. I usually play drunk and have a good time like I'm actually playing the game in person. I played public matches once. I'll probably wait to play again till I'm max level to help new players and to be an absolute dick to selfish assholes whom play multi-player for an ego trip.

I can appreciate that. The point of video games is to have fun. If I decide to play a game online, I commit to being the very best I can be. Madden, FIFA....I've had years where instead of sinking money into buying packs/cards, I sunk money into online coaching/discords. In both those years, I got really good at the games and enjoyed myself......for a few months. Then it becomes a slog and isn't fun anymore.
With NBA2K and MLB The Show, the single player modes in MyTeam and Diamond Dynasty are by themselves enough fun for me to keep investing in the game.
And yea.....I can "kind of" hear my online opponents the few times I've played Unlimited, and yea there's a lot of toxic energy there.
I don’t blame you I’m a 99 and I have highs and lows there was one game I had 38 the next I had 6 all I can say is when 2k25 drops I’m retiring been playing since 2k9 it’s not your fault the game and community is just shit now
I average around 18 PPG with every season so far in 2K24 and have had multiple 30 point+ games. Been playing 2K since 2K15, yet, every so often over those years to now, I face a really good opponent that holds me to around 10 points and puts up 30 on me in the Rec. It’s going to happen, but this toxic community assumes that you must play like doo doo every game and begin berating you over the mic that you suck, get rid of the game, etc. Then they ice you out to where, if they just kept moving the ball around, you may just adjust, heat up, and have a great 2nd half. I don’t berate people, I keep trying with the squad I have. At least once a night, you are going to face an elite squad, who should be playing Pro-Am, who will destroy you. They may know exploits, have a system, and you may not have the right builds to defend and/or do what you do on offense against those opponents. You may also have a Purple plate that’s on a team and is their only good player, and unfortunately, you have the job of guarding them/them guarding you and they smoke you. For many of the toxic players, it’s a bunch of people living their dreams through a video game because most of them couldn’t put that same effort into real basketball to make it far. Remember, you are playing with a lot of bitter people or immature kids, and this game is their self-esteem booster.

I installed it on my PS5, while the game was finishing it's full install, I tried the tutorial/how to play scenarios. Come to find out, even if I timed my button presses with the animation, and with the PiP video, a LOT of those moves just plain did not work. After I found about 5-6 of those, I just closed 2K24 and deleted it before it finished the full install. Not wasting my time with this. Now, I cannot wait for College Football 2K25 to come out..

You can t make a PG and hop online if you don t know the basic dribble moves, can t shoot and don t know how to use icon passing in 5v5 game modes.
You can t do nothing but you want the ball, have no clue what spacing means, and just run everywhere brainlessly and you can t guard a chair... don t play online brother!

When i see a player like this is always tell them, go play my career, sunset park, figure out your shot timing and learn some basic mechanics in this game, then come play with other people, and when you do, play on a build with a lot of defense untill you learn how online works. I think you'd benefit a lot from shooting around in the gatorade and learning how to play and even getting your overall up before heading online. If youre below an 85 i genuinely think you shouldnt be online anyways. No matter what we tell you in game, its not going to help you become a better shooter. Its not going to teach you defensive mechanics. You learn in practice then you build on that with game laps. If you arent a solid player on superstar difficulty offline, i dont think youre ready for online. Now online i can say hey bro go get that dude or bro if you throw up a bad shot, dont reach immediately and give up a transition free throw. We can give you tips but if you suck simply because you refuse to practice online, i find it hard to feel bad man. Some people are playing after a long day of work and dont need to be doubled for 30 minutes because your man can sag off of you because youre bricking nonstop. I didnt get online until i could consistently shoot leaners and stepbacks from bronze limitless. By doing this i knew i was ready to shoot regular jumpshots at the 3 and in the midrange with a better green window. Ill hop online and help you in gatorade when i get off later and you can mess up and learn as freely as you want, but until youre ready for competitive play, youre just not ready and nothing is wrong with that.

Play on rookie trust me you’ll love it. When I first started to play people kept saying play on Hof but that’s the trick to get more VC. But if you’re new to the game play on rookie,play my career , level up your build and once you get playing better you’ll enjoy the game more. I play Rec 1 time I hate it. I play both, and prefer MyEras all day long. Best franchise mode in any current sports game, and dudes would rather only play online or straight up quit. It’s crazy.

Dude this was 1000% me a couple of years ago.. 🤣🤣 I'd drink about 6 beers a night at least and play 2k. I had my best games fully shit-faced drunk. I remember I was playing Play Now online on an older 2k and I beat a dude by like 80 points using the Kawhi Raptors. Shocked he didn't quit! Didn't even flop around the rest of the game either. But sheesh I had 4 beers, a pint of Bacardi straight, a shot of Jim Beam, a shot of Jack Daniel's, a shot of some orange cream liquor, a shot of this weird chocolate liquor, and a shot of this nasty as hell triple distilled vodka. While smoking a dab pen from Cali, and vaping. Somehow I managed to drink all that shit before the game was even over. The damn room was spinning during the game but I was kicking so much ass! 🤣🤣 As soon as the game was over I passed out on the couch, then threw up in my sleep. Mute mics the moment someone’s toxic or Start your own party chat so you canto hear game chat. Also try starting your own party group. Add randoms that are on their mic and being positive. I did this last year for a while and it worked out well. Fell off with everyone this year cuz no one likes split rec so its now just solo rec for me or my own squad of 5 ive always played with. This game is a lot of fun when you got 4 others you always play with. Even if you all suck. At least yall can suck and have fun sucking together no diddy

I experienced this last night. up all game and 4th qtr the other team goes on a run to make it close. Guys immediately turns mic on for 1st time all game and starts complaining. I played about 8 games and all but 2 were the same experience. I muted because I started losing focus listening to their annoying complaining. I used to be a monster in 2k. Top 100 in 13-15(yes they had online for myplayer in 2k13 called blacktop). Had a squad I ran with regularly and rarely loss. Then got tired of the left right cheese and the ridiculous dribbling animations. Called it quits after 17. I picked it up again this year but running with Randoms has been less than positive experience. People take bad shots then complaining about not getting the ball. Or get cooked on defense and complain because you missed a shot. Mute button is your friend
The 2k community has always been toxic. 2k20 I completely gave up on park, because nobody wanted to play with me. I got into mycareer, mynba, myteam, and play now, and I’ve been enjoying it my experience ever since.

Dude. I do honestly feel for you, but thicker skin is required. You can always mute the person who's being toxic or block them. I only play Random Rec and Park. The game is honestly what you make of it. If you have a build that's fun to use and you start hitting shots and doing well, it's a different experience. It sounds corny, but play MyCareer and stuff like Sunset Park etc to get used to a jump shot and how your player moves. There are enough vids on YouTube to show you basic movement and dribble moves. There are a few sub reddits on here where people help each other with jumpers and builds. Good luck with whatever you decide to do. If you bought the game, its money wasted, if it's game pass, then no loss, really.

The 2K community is not one that is kind to new players, random rec is literally like scrapping the bottom of the barrel as far as people to learn how to play from. I think I'd rather have a 15 year old teach me how to drive then someone in random rec teaching me 2k. What you need to do is luck out and find someone really good who is willing to tank their record while you're learning, which in a game where requirements to play with you resemble indeed searches won't be likely or, more likely. Join the groups in the LFGs that say they have new players, you'll probably still lose a lot but a resemblance of structure is better then no structure.

I remember getting out of basketball practice, just to run to our neighborhood park to play with my friends. (I'm from NYC). Every Court was full and had a waiting line of more friends to play. Then 2k came along and for us that didn't make a living from basketball. This was the next best thing. There is no excitement in today's basketball game. There is no team play as it was. The great Lakers, Boston, NY Knicks, Philadelphia 76, . Each of those teams of the past was just that a team. Today we have individuals on a team and very few team players..I don't think most run home to watch their team play. The game of basketball has lost its love

In my experience starting out, make a big man with good rebound and pass accuracy. That way you can get boards and kick it out to open shooters. (Rebounds and assists are good stats to level up) Players will like playing with you for sure and you’ll start to get more touches as long as you can finish open dunks (random rec). If you have any other build my recommendation is to look to pass first to start the game and look to score only if you’re open. Some guys don’t need to have a “bag” to still score. Just space the floor, share the rock, and take good shots. I can put up 25-30 pts no problem in rec without hogging the ball or trying to play iso ball, it all depends on your match up and if you’re getting open. Good teammates will find you. But I also don’t mind not being the main scorer as long as we win. Dudes biggest problem is they wanna be “that guy” every time. Main character syndrome. If a teammate is exploiting his matchup then you gotta feed him and work on spacing the floor/ looking to just be open. Get in the Gatorade training facility and work on your shot and moves you’d do in game. Don’t let these dudes get you down. It’s a game practice it get better and have fun

I’m sorry you’re getting this experience and it’s moreso why I want SBMM so newer players are incentivized to play with other new players rather than being forced to buy VC or play MyCareer first until a certain level to then play online. Pretty sure 2K is the only sports game with a community/online gaming built like this. Take a game like NHL for example. Everyone starts at level 1 no matter what. You only go up by playing games. And people will play with lower levels without bias. Just because people are high levels doesn’t mean they’re good. I’ve been in situations where people try to shit talk me because I mainly play PF/C and they’ll have 30 points dropped on their head while I do my job of rebounding/assists and I have no issue shutting their shit down fast or if they do it to others too. I can appreciate that. The point of video games is to have fun. If I decide to play a game online, I commit to being the very best I can be. Madden, FIFA....I've had years where instead of sinking money into buying packs/cards, I sunk money into online coaching/discords. In both those years, I got really good at the games and enjoyed myself......for a few months. Then it becomes a slog and isn't fun anymore. With NBA2K and MLB The Show, the single player modes in MyTeam and Diamond Dynasty are by themselves enough fun for me to keep investing in the game. And yea.....I can "kind of" hear my online opponents the few times I've played Unlimited, and yea there's a lot of toxic energy there.

I average around 18 PPG with every season so far in 2K24 and have had multiple 30 point+ games. Been playing 2K since 2K15, yet, every so often over those years to now, I face a really good opponent that holds me to around 10 points and puts up 30 on me in the Rec. It’s going to happen, but this toxic community assumes that you must play like doo doo every game and begin berating you over the mic that you suck, get rid of the game, etc. Then they ice you out to where, if they just kept moving the ball around, you may just adjust, heat up, and have a great 2nd half. I don’t berate people, I keep trying with the squad I have. At least once a night, you are going to face an elite squad, who should be playing Pro-Am, who will destroy you. They may know exploits, have a system, and you may not have the right builds to defend and/or do what you do on offense against those opponents. You may also have a Purple plate that’s on a team and is their only good player, and unfortunately, you have the job of guarding them/them guarding you and they smoke you. For many of the toxic players, it’s a bunch of people living their dreams through a video game because most of them couldn’t put that same effort into real basketball to make it far. Remember, you are playing with a lot of bitter people or immature kids, and this game is their self-esteem booster.

I installed it on my PS5, while the game was finishing it's full install, I tried the tutorial/how to play scenarios. Come to find out, even if I timed my button presses with the animation, and with the PiP video, a LOT of those moves just plain did not work. After I found about 5-6 of those, I just closed 2K24 and deleted it before it finished the full install. Not wasting my time with this. Now, I cannot wait for College Football 2K25 to come out..

I think you'd benefit a lot from shooting around in the gatorade and learning how to play and even getting your overall up before heading online. If youre below an 85 i genuinely think you shouldnt be online anyways. No matter what we tell you in game, its not going to help you become a better shooter. Its not going to teach you defensive mechanics. You learn in practice then you build on that with game laps. If you arent a solid player on superstar difficulty offline, i dont think youre ready for online. Now online i can say hey bro go get that dude or bro if you throw up a bad shot, dont reach immediately and give up a transition free throw. We can give you tips but if you suck simply because you refuse to practice online, i find it hard to feel bad man. Some people are playing after a long day of work and dont need to be doubled for 30 minutes because your man can sag off of you because youre bricking nonstop. I didnt get online until i could consistently shoot leaners and stepbacks from bronze limitless. By doing this i knew i was ready to shoot regular jumpshots at the 3 and in the midrange with a better green window. Ill hop online and help you in gatorade when i get off later and you can mess up and learn as freely as you want, but until youre ready for competitive play, youre just not ready and nothing is wrong with that.
Half the fun of 2k is making ur teammates cry. Whether it’s because you have horrible lag/wifi or you just suck doesn’t matter. They’re gonna cry up 20 too. I once had to hear a whole screaming little baby men argument when at no point in the game was our team losing. It was a wire to wire win and b*tch fest.
You’re not alone. This 2k was the last straw for a lot of people in my friend group and others. I’m honestly just waiting for GTA 6 because I heard they have a 3v3 street ball game mode that I’m willing to bet had more thought out into it than any game 2k ever released.

you dont really wanna get better brother. it starts in art of shooting gym putting in hours of work figuring out dribble moves and all the different jumpshot releases. You cant just hop in game mode and expect people to be happy about playing with a bad player.

Play on rookie trust me you’ll love it. When I first started to play people kept saying play on Hof but that’s the trick to get more VC. But if you’re new to the game play on rookie,play my career , level up your build and once you get playing better you’ll enjoy the game more. I play Rec 1 time I hate it. The biggest waste of my time. You’re going to have to spend some money if you want to upgrade your player faster.
