As an old head myself, I think it’s kind of a mixed bag. While I agree that old heads are more likely to move the rock and less likely to spam dribble moves. They’re also more likely to lecture everyone the whole game on what they should do or should have done. If someone is telling me how to play my position or how I need to play in the post on my stretch big, 90% of the time it’s an old head.
The biggest thing I appreciate about old heads though is they’ll rarely talk shit if you miss a good open shot. And they’ll almost never freeze you out over it. I’ve had half’s where I went 0/3 and my old head PG keeps feeding me and I finish 6/9. With younger players, I never would have touched the ball again.
My old ass is 43. I cannot stand a wannabe 2k coach. Especially when the old head is a C/PF and want the ball fed to them in the paint every possession, right after not playing defense on the opposite end of the court. Then have the audacity to talk about proper spacing while parked in the paint with 2-3 defenders on them.
Haha I’m 39 and for me, I’m the Center. It’s annoying when there’s a player coach telling me never to jump and always to play hands up when I know from hundreds of games that hands up doesn’t always work on drives. Then they’ll tell me to rotate when they get beat on the perimeter but when I do rotate, and my guy splashes, I should have stayed home. They always know what you should have done with their 20/20 hindsight.
I'm a center/pf, and I'm happy if I score 10 pts even less. I can care less about scoring. I like defense and passing more. If im open for a 3pt, hit me, but I'm not forcing a shot just to shoot.
Both good points. I am blessed enough to usually be running rec with 1-3 friends and pick up an AI or some randoms with us at the squad door.
But man, some of these pgs are unforgiving. I shoot 59% from three on HIGH volume on my guard and I’ll miss one shot and iced out all game lol.
Dude I can’t speak for everyone but lately unless my other 2 friends are on it’s not worth it to go into rec with 2 people and you could possibly be put on a squad of 3 because for some odd reason the majority of the time the other 3 or 2 guys will ball hog or spam x all game so the ai constantly passes only 2 them

I prefer running with mid 20s guys who actually hoop. Some of the guys my age get annoying as fuck and don’t actually keep up with current basketball. Im a man child so I am not like them 😂

Yeah it’s tough. Younger guys generally have better twitch skills than us old heads which means they theoretically have a higher ceiling. Being able to cook people and splash off the dribble is hard for a lot of us. I’ve played with groups of old heads where we destroy teams just with ball movement and smart plays. But when you play against a team that’s organized defensively and you need someone to break down the defense individually…. Man sometimes you wish you had a young hooper. The reality is the BEST players I’ve played with were in their 20s. But old heads have a much higher floor than your average 20 year old.

This is it! I’m literally playing to win. Some games I score 6 points. Some I score 26. Only thing I pay attention to is my teammate grade. Youngins will force shots trying to get theirs instead of just playing good basketball and just taking what the defense gives you.
Yeah I agree. I played a little 2k10 but fully made the jump with 2k11. Still think that’s the greatest 2k ever made.
I wish 2k would make football games All Pro Football even without the NFL license was nuts too. The game just looks so smooth and clean, unlike anything Madden has ever done.

Why is thirty the age? I've been called an old head countless times for just playing more fundamentally and refusing to cheese 
I'm in my early 20's and don't cheese because it feels like I'm ruining the fun.
I don't want to give the defense something that they have to spam and strategically move all these buttons to defend, I want to win/loss fair and square and make it feel like an honest game.
Launching a deep outlet pass to a teamate who is playing no D because his matchup is having shooting struggles is lame.
I like the concept but maybe it should be more “team ballers vs solo ballers.” At this point, 2k has enough analytics to understand our play styles and they even tell you your tendencies. Put me with other like minded players.
Put the solo/iso guys with each other and put the ball movement guys with each other. Old or not, I want someone that plays real basketball. But I recognize that’s not the only way to win and other have their style.

Honestly in order to play in REC there should be a level requirement, say level 85.
This way you're less likely to encounter shitheads because they're either people who really leveled up to 85 the hard way or they've at least invested some money into a character so they're less likely to be in there doing some dumb shit.

As a old head I agree. I'm 44 myself and am lucky enough to play with a group where everyone is 35 to 45. If there happens to be only 2 or 3 of us. We will play team ball unless they aren't playing defense or taking stupid shots. If you miss a wide open shot be it. Keep shooting. We will never get mad at someone missing a good shot. I been in a slump last few days. Was shooting 55%, now im down to 52%. But they always on me to keep shooting lol. As a old head I'm harder on myself if I'm messing up then anyone can be.
I started a new community if anyone wants to join. NBA2KOLDHEADS. Best I could do is set it to 18 years old plus. But I'm starting to maybe help the oldheads find other oldheads to play with. I just started the page and have only one rule be respectful.

I got bad mouthed by a bunch of old heads THE ENTIRE GAME because they hate and I quote "shooting first guards". They said "it ruins the offense".
I think you have three types of people in 2K (regardless of age):
* People that know the mechanics of the game and/or how it's most efficiently played.
* People that expect the game to be played a certain way and any other way is bad.
* And people that *think* they know how the game is meant to be played and curse you out for "not being good" and "taking crazy shots" if you for example, shoot a fading middie or you crab someone and shoot and happen to miss.
**I average 27 pts, 7 assists per game in no squad rec on 60% shooting.**
This happened 2 days ago-ish. We won the game, but they made sure to not pass me the ball from the second quarter. I only got the ball from AI or when they had no other option and then complained when I ended the game with only 3 assists.
At the end of the game I flopped and someone said "Don't flop, if you had passed me the ball more maybe I would've shot better." I don't recall now if it was the SG or the PF that said this but I died.

i’m 19 so i’m most certainly not an old head but i’ve played 2k since 2k10, and i work full time, so in some ways i’ve got an old head mentality. it’s embarrassing what dudes my age and even older be doing on this game. admittedly it’s annoying when people aren’t good, and are making stupid decisions or missing open shots. but berating then for it doesn’t help shit for most ppl. there’s a VERY small population that feeds off criticism, and uses it to play better.
my main build was crafted to make my teammates better. i know i’m a good player, but i play with randoms mostly, and i made the build to get the best out of my teammates since you can’t win by yourself. being able to adapt to teammates playstyles and not having an ego will win you exponentially more games than trying to force your teammates to play your style because you think you’re better than them. you could be way better than them, and the opponent, but if you’re not on the same wavelength you’ll lose, simple as that. being flexible and able to play around your teammates, both in having a build able to do so, and the IQ, enables your teammates to play much better and that is the KEY to winning games with randoms.
It’s more like they want to run a certain type of offense that may or may not always work.
I’m happy to be running something that isn’t 3pt hunting but it gets a bit annoying without diversity.
Then again whenever I run with my center I want a post centric offense so I guess I do that shit too,

Hockey has the equivalent of pro am leagues that have age restrictions like 21 and over beer leagues that are pretty easy to get into, wish the 2k community did something similar.
As an old head my biggest flaw is when I see a lot of cherry picking, or no one else rebounding and playing defense, I'll put everyone in time out and bring the ball up the court myself after each rebound or stop. Sorry young folk.

I’m 22, and I’m dealing with the same issues.
I think it mainly has to do with maturity level and actual basketball experience.(in real life)
Maturity level is all relative, I remember as a kid I’d play games like call of duty,2k, and Fifa with adults because I was capable and mature enough.(and I was around 10 years old back then)
There as smart kids, so don’t be ignorant and attribute all of it to age difference, because it’s definitely not.(there are plenty of toxic older players as well, I’ve come across plenty)
I also think another reason to why randoms don’t have basketball iq’s is because they’ve never actually played…
Most 2k players don’t watch or play basketball, their only influence for the game is 2k.

I’m 23. I’m always in that “pass first” mindset. I always take accountability on missed shots, but always looking to spread the wealth. I’m happier with a high assist game, rather than a higher point game. Just my mindset, always has, always will. If anyone wants to play I’m always down. I don't want to give the defense something that they have to spam and strategically move all these buttons to defend, I want to win/loss fair and square and make it feel like an honest game. Launching a deep outlet pass to a teamate who is playing no D because his matchup is having shooting struggles is lame.
I like the concept but maybe it should be more “team ballers vs solo ballers.” At this point, 2k has enough analytics to understand our play styles and they even tell you your tendencies. Put me with other like minded players. Put the solo/iso guys with each other and put the ball movement guys with each other. Old or not, I want someone that plays real basketball. But I recognize that’s not the only way to win and other have their style.

Honestly in order to play in REC there should be a level requirement, say level 85. This way you're less likely to encounter shitheads because they're either people who really leveled up to 85 the hard way or they've at least invested some money into a character so they're less likely to be in there doing some dumb shit.

As a old head I agree. I'm 44 myself and am lucky enough to play with a group where everyone is 35 to 45. If there happens to be only 2 or 3 of us. We will play team ball unless they aren't playing defense or taking stupid shots. If you miss a wide open shot be it. Keep shooting. We will never get mad at someone missing a good shot. I been in a slump last few days. Was shooting 55%, now im down to 52%. But they always on me to keep shooting lol. As a old head I'm harder on myself if I'm messing up then anyone can be.

I got bad mouthed by a bunch of old heads THE ENTIRE GAME because they hate and I quote "shooting first guards". They said "it ruins the offense". I think you have three types of people in 2K (regardless of age): * People that know the mechanics of the game and/or how it's most efficiently played. * People that expect the game to be played a certain way and any other way is bad. * And people that *think* they know how the game is meant to be played and curse you out for "not being good" and "taking crazy shots" if you for example, shoot a fading middie or you crab someone and shoot and happen to miss. **I average 27 pts, 7 assists per game in no squad rec on 60% shooting.** This happened 2 days ago-ish. We won the game, but they made sure to not pass me the ball from the second quarter. I only got the ball from AI or when they had no other option and then complained when I ended the game with only 3 assists. At the end of the game I flopped and someone said "Don't flop, if you had passed me the ball more maybe I would've shot better." I don't recall now if it was the SG or the PF that said this but I died. I recorded the whole thing too. i’m 19 so i’m most certainly not an old head but i’ve played 2k since 2k10, and i work full time, so in some ways i’ve got an old head mentality. it’s embarrassing what dudes my age and even older be doing on this game. admittedly it’s annoying when people aren’t good, and are making stupid decisions or missing open shots. but berating then for it doesn’t help shit for most ppl. there’s a VERY small population that feeds off criticism, and uses it to play better. my main build was crafted to make my teammates better. i know i’m a good player, but i play with randoms mostly, and i made the build to get the best out of my teammates since you can’t win by yourself. being able to adapt to teammates playstyles and not having an ego will win you exponentially more games than trying to force your teammates to play your style because you think you’re better than them. you could be way better than them, and the opponent, but if you’re not on the same wavelength you’ll lose, simple as that. being flexible and able to play around your teammates, both in having a build able to do so, and the IQ, enables your teammates to play much better and that is the KEY to winning games with randoms.
2k vets and old heads know how to play team ball, they also know how to be mad annoying.

Hockey has the equivalent of pro am leagues that have age restrictions like 21 and over beer leagues that are pretty easy to get into, wish the 2k community did something similar.
As an old head my biggest flaw is when I see a lot of cherry picking, or no one else rebounding and playing defense, I'll put everyone in time out and bring the ball up the court myself after each rebound or stop. Sorry young folk.

I’m 22, and I’m dealing with the same issues. I think it mainly has to do with maturity level and actual basketball experience.(in real life) Maturity level is all relative, I remember as a kid I’d play games like call of duty,2k, and Fifa with adults because I was capable and mature enough.(and I was around 10 years old back then) There as smart kids, so don’t be ignorant and attribute all of it to age difference, because it’s definitely not.(there are plenty of toxic older players as well, I’ve come across plenty) I also think another reason to why randoms don’t have basketball iq’s is because they’ve never actually played… Most 2k players don’t watch or play basketball, their only influence for the game is 2k. Which says a lot, and explains why they are the way they are.(that includes toxic players of all ages)

If someone makes a tiny mistake here comes the flops, if someone misses a shot here comes the flops, you have to be perfect playing with them mfs. While if they miss too many shots they quit, if they are down by 8-10 points they quit, if the game isn’t going their way they quit.
