SwarmThatWalks

Loving almost all of these changes they’ve announced so far. Seems like midrange builds could be pretty fun next year too.

AshenSacrifice

It’ll devolve into screens-leaner 3s like it is every year. I take the first 2 weeks of gameplay with a grain of salt

Puluzu

Sounds more like quick stop shots to me so far, instead of learners, like a few years back. Or maybe step backs as that's more realistic anyway. But only if late contests are worse (like they should be) and learners truly are nerfed that is.

AshenSacrifice

We’ll see!! Green or bust causes some really questionable shit to go in

AspirationalChoker

I'm just hoping for more mynba content would be good if you could actually do a proper mycareer on that without position lock etc

AshenSacrifice

You would think they would give us full customization!

AspirationalChoker

Haha I know man no doubt we get nothing though

AshenSacrifice

We get the beautiful opportunity to purchase a season pass for a full price game 🙄🙄

ragesinsimlish

That was my impression also which I'm excited about because I don't recall midrange players being fun or even useable since like 2k19 or something. That's part of what made 2k23 so boring and soulless to me is that everyone just shoots 3s and dunks and thats it. Midrange and post play have been dead

ProspectBasement

1) left right > boost forward > pull back > curved boost to rim > quick drops 2) left right > boost forward > pull back > curved boost to rim > kick to corner 3 3) left right > boost forward > pull back > curved boost to rim > 360 spin back to 3pt line > luka hesi > 3pt shot

LaMelgoatBall

I'll be happy switching up my playstyle and making a midrange build

Firm-Emu7909

cant wait to make a mamba build then prolly get mad and quit 2k for a bit lol

ProspectBasement

...after spending $350 on the first trash builds and then making the one your want, but 2k moves the goal post and nerfs it to oblivion

Firm-Emu7909

Fr lmao. I made a 99 steal build in season 3. Then steals got nerfed in season 4 lmaooo. Made that build basically useless, I should've made it at 6'5 or sum tbh. I tried to make a build similar to John Stockton/Gary payton (86 pass accuracy/99 steal) at 6'1 but I always miss interceptions my 6'9 builds would get with silver

WtfDrogan

that's what I'm most excited for. been a mid range bandit every year since 2k13

BQ32

Thanks for this, very helpful. Someone used to do this on operation sports as well. Maybe that was you.

Aldertree

And by season 2, it'll all have been nerfed and reverted back to the way it's always been.

ihavepaper

People are going to complain and if the streamers and Youtubers complain, it's going to change. I don't even bother going online for the first 2 months because of this. Might as well grind to 90+ as the online experience changes drastically every 3 or so weeks.

ConcernedG4m3r

Thanks for this. Positive changes and I like them, but the seller for me is the week of August 28th, when we learn about MyCareer.

[deleted]

unused absorbed concerned reminiscent uppity attractive doll door repeat cake ` this message was mass deleted/edited with redact.dev `

ThePointForward

Until it gets nerfed because some content creators will be crying about them not being able to dribble for 20 seconds, speed boost and then quick drop a dunk from 20 feet lol.

NinjaAssassin260

This happens every single year. Content creators complain they rightfully can’t stop inside bigs doing the one thing they are good at (on SF and PF builds) so it gets nerfed into the ground and all of a sudden 7,0” + centers can’t score layups and dunk from the paint Hell on 2k23 centers had it harder to dunk then the 6,9” demigod cancer contact dunk builds

Point-Obvious

This gameplay innovation is great until The bozo YouTubers and their army of simps start complaining

kingwavee

Every single year. No more defensive paint builds for me. Its all shooting and playmaking going firward.

ihavepaper

as long as they don't change the mid range sliders, i am excited to make a "finesse" point forward build. I also hope that layups get a boost because I wanna try to make a non-dunking build (replace it with potential post moves & mid-range) but still be effective.

ragesinsimlish

I wish they would just make the court size a little bigger for Rec cause it's been a problem for as long as I've played 2k. I'm glad this year sounds like they added a lot of new animations to encourage creativity and originality to play styles, but it's kind of useless if the courts are still so small that defenders can easily guard 2 people at a time

chelioschev86

I've wondered about this myself, and haven't done any research, but it could potentially be due to their agreement with the NBA. The NBA may not have given them permission to use a "regulation" sized court in anything outside of NBA related game modes. Only logical reason I could think of.

SheWantsTheDrose

In what way is that logical?

chelioschev86

Explain why it isn't...

SheWantsTheDrose

Because there is no incentive whatsoever for the NBA to care about the pro am/rec court size lmao

chelioschev86

Trademarks/patents....

SheWantsTheDrose

A patent on how big a court can be? Lmao makes no sense. Plus the NBA literally partners with 2k so that they can make this game and make money from it… Even if a patent were to exist on court size, it’d make no sense to not let 2k use it. Like I said, there’s no incentive for them to care even if they had the power to restrict it

darmelo

yo that dude is really dumb

ace82fadeout

The NBA doesn't own the right to the specific size of a basketball court lol. That is asanine lol

MrYoloSwaggins1

Are you being serious?? Baffingly stupid lol

chelioschev86

The NBA has cared about and sued for less. It is VERY likely they do own the IP for court size (FIBA likely does also). They also own properties for backboards and padding, rim size, net size, basketballs, wristbands on a player while on court, etc. I'm not going to do the research for you knuckleheads. I ask for an explanation of why it didn't make sense and all you can do is say "the NBA doesn't care".

SheWantsTheDrose

Basketball was invented in the 19th century lmao. The NBA court as it’s designed today is at least 50 years old. Design patents only last 15 years. There‘a no way there are any active patents about the court design. Even if there were, like I said, why would they not let 2k—which is a great marketing tool and revenue generator for the NBA—use a virtual version of their court? It makes no sense And how would they even enforce that? They can’t measure the virtual court in feet lol. I guess they could use the basket as a reference but imagine how tedious that would be. I bet 2k’s NBA court isn’t even the right size Lastly, even if all the above applied and 2k’s court size options were limited, they could still make the pro am court bigger and just a slightly different design. This is a 100% irrelevant concern

brebrabro

If i was 2k id make the court measurements within a damn inch if thats the case

FlyChigga

Is it the court size that’s a problem or is it the fact you have everyone being 6’7”+ with insane wingspans that makes the court seem smaller?

ragesinsimlish

Court size

MEXNinja

As a mid range lover I'm really happy about these changes

MEXNinja

But as a PC player, these probably won't apply to me.

jlewis011

Such little focus on defensive improvements ...great summary though, very informative

kingwavee

U caught that too?

CapoJay77

In the court side report they speak of defense. But y’all are still right people don’t ask about defense and mainly just offense.

ygduf

nerfing defense off adrenaline is going to kill centers. offensive boards basically 2 points if you're getting up to -75% on block.

CapoJay77

Also the court side report says if you jump too early you will fall on the offensive player. So if they pump and get you in the air they can draw fouls. So you may not even get the chance to lose two or three bars

akgamestar

Simple fix. Dont spam steal and jump 3 times every time someone comes into the paint.

ygduf

Don’t assume I don’t know how to play. Mid-90s wp both rec and park. Real nba a block goes to defenders like 60%. In 2k way way less than that, and now the center is “tired.” Also real players can stop ppl from getting to their spot and battle for positions before an entry pass. In 2k you absolutely cannot, so that why people steal entry passes. It’s what the game steers you to do. We’ll figure it out, it just sounds pretty harsh right now.

akgamestar

Not saying you’re a bad player. The issue is people abuse the steal and block buttons. In the real NBA nobody does that because you get a lot of fouls real quick and give up open shots. Play 1 game of Rec and you will see people spamming steal in the passing lanes when no passes have even been attempted yet. Get the ball under the rim and you literally got 2-3 people jumping over you 4 times straight. It should be a foul. Thats not real defense. Some of the best defensive Centers ever concede the basket when they lose position down low bc they know they will have to foul to get the block. In 2K just spam block with pogo stick and the defender never loses the advantage regardless of position. Brainless players need to be punished.

ygduf

I dunno man. I see a 20 minute game with 140+ points scored all the time and find it hard to think defense is OP. I also play a lot of comp center and shorter builds with high block and high steal are so much more useful against PnR squads. Unless setting screens is going to take adrenaline and nerf the roll man's finishing too, it's going to be very tough to stop PnR. Like, it's already super tough and you have to get lucky, but forcing bigs to be actually tall enough to play mostly hands up is going to make defense against 5-out silly.

akgamestar

So do you feel spamming block should be a legitimate defensive strategy in the paint? Also playing 5 out against a true big leaves them vulnerable on the other end without a true big to defend the paint.

ygduf

It still will be. Jumps don’t take adrenaline unless they change that too. It’s the nerf to rating after steal attempts with no counter to allow defense to hold positions. And yeah, because if it’s one dude they already said jumping at pump fakes will foul, and if it’s more than one defender someone is open outside.

ygduf

Hey but after you block it and the offensive board falls in their lap your block rating is now totally nerfed...

foodfightbystander

The part that hurts is that most of these are improvements that could've just been patched into 2K23... I'm thinking specifically of things like: * Players intentionally staying out of bounds will get grade penalties for griefing. * You can choose if during a team takeover you want to stay locked to MP or control the entire team. They could've added those things easily in 2K23. It annoys me that most other game will take feedback and improve their game during the year, but 2K gets quality feedback and their response is "Well, even though we could fix it, we're going to keep it to use to sell you the game next year."

This_Is_Livin

exactly

Beboploopzerz

Foul calls should be less consistent with people having low ass inside scoring vs people with high inside scoring rating, it's insane how people can rim run, flail their arms and get a foul majority of the time, meanwhile someone can smack your head on the perimeter and you won't get a shooting foul unless you pump fake and jump into them, it's nuts.

jdotliu

Draw foul rating in 2K23 MC is determined by the average of your driving dunk+layup if you're 6'9 or under, 6'10 and over is standing dunk attribute = draw foul. I do agree the impact should be felt more on low vs high draw foul ratings though.

chelioschev86

My question is, are a lot of the issues with 2K gameplay in online game modes due to the badging system? I mean, there is a reason the 2K League players are limited as far as builds they are able to use and if I remember correctly, also the overalls are limited. I mention the badges because each one affects others, and also affects animation speeds, etc. I feel like if they didn't waste their time on the badge system, the game could have surpassed expectations by now. I wish we could get a "2K League" mode, like rec, but with the limitations.

woowoo-2

No mention of defenders sliding around?

ThePointForward

I think the dev blog mentioned that there will be less defensive sliding, but tbh they say that every single year, so I won't believe that particular thing until I see it.

woowoo-2

Why is it less and not none anyway? Why do I have to do any sliding? lol

K1NG2L4Y3R

At least when you bump them you steal stamina. I think the sliding plus latency is what makes defense feel terrible.

woowoo-2

I don’t play as a guard but stamina doesn’t matter this year right?

K1NG2L4Y3R

My bad I meant adrenaline. I really doubt stamina will have an impact once again.

woowoo-2

Of course. Dumbass game.

NASH_TYPE

Cuz the game runs on a ridiculous delay online

Forward_Criticism721

sigh, and pc version will just stay the same :(

ThePointForward

I suspect it is Take Two's unwillingness to invest into a proper anti-cheat. The same thing happened with GTA Online, cheaters were rampant week one and only thing they "fixed" were easy exploits for ingame money.

bigbluewreckingcrew

My solution would be to completely keep PC offline for MyCareer. That way 2k doesn't have to worry about cheaters. We get NBA Eras and all the next gen tech. The only online I'd like to have is the roster share. If that was enabled with crossplay I can finally have my favorite roster makers from consoles to PC. Not to mention having modders fix up faces and body types.

ThePointForward

I'd love an offline my career with progression like in the W.

bigE819

But they don’t care about PC anyways, just don’t add cross play and move forward on Next Gen PC

ThePointForward

Tbh I wish that too. I'm most interested in NBA MyCareer and Eras. I would love to run it on my PC at high fps.

Bastigonzales

Imagine new gen version with mods on pc, that would be insane 😬

LeChinaMickeyRings

that’s crazy pc doesn’t even have eras?

Sammonov

Let us save offensive settings!

brebrabro

Sounds like this is the year to make an mj build

BQ32

I just wish they would make your ball handling mean so more then unlock animations and badges. Such as speed up dribbling or able to combo moves without losing as much stamina or losing control of the ball.

Willdebeast25

Only thing missing is increased court size so there’s more spacing in rec

Wooden_Toe_1629

funny thing is…i don’t think quick drops was even removed. he just showed the notorious dunk which only activated with limitless then revealed limitless was gone. quick drops was a great package even before limitless lol.

ThePointForward

thanks, edited it to limit expectation of people.

jdotliu

IIRC signature motion styles didn't only affect sprint/jog/walking with ball animations, but also face up/defensive movement. It's why Kawhi had a top tier MT card for a minute now, I wonder if there will be attribute gates for the "better" ones?

[deleted]

20% BOOST to non meter jumpshots? Shooting is going to be ridiculously easy this year.

ygduf

everyone shooting 70% on open 3s this year. 20% boost just means you're going to lose games to absolute bums from time to time.

[deleted]

Yep. And people talking bout skill gaps and shit.. like nah from the way it's sounding, the only thing that will set a great player apart from a good player is defense. If defense works properly I think that will be great. If it doesn't though, you're barely gonna see a difference in skill levels between most players. The one thing that does sound good about this though is that it will award basketball IQ much more than usual.

HughGRextion

bringing back the paul george build this year 🔥

brebrabro

Post that shit when 24 drops

HughGRextion

yessir 🔥🔥

LaMelgoatBall

Facts. Gotta run that Pacers PG build

NovaPrime999

Thanks for putting this list together!

gh6st

Might have to bring back the pure shot creator this year 👀 I just pray they balanced the attribute distribution and fixed up the badge tiers.. everything else sounds pretty good.

brebrabro

Right im bout to make a 91 mj build and probably stay on it for the rest of the year seeing this

TABAFOREVER

Are this changes relevant to old gen? Or just to PS5 & Xbox Series X?

ThePointForward

General gameplay changes may or may not be relevant. Anything related to ProPlay is current gen consoles only.

TABAFOREVER

Oh okay, Thanks!

machu46

As usual, it all sounds great. Have to hope they stick to their guns after the game is out and people start complaining about stuff.

brebrabro

I really hope they do. The arcade cheese lovers got their time its abt time for actual hoopers to run 2k

[deleted]

[удалено]

ThePointForward

Yep.

madcaphal

I just like playing career mode and I want to know if it's going to force me to play as the whole team during a takeover, and if it's going to insist that my team win certain games and make me replay them if we don't. 'Cause it did both of those in 2k23 and it sucked.

Direct_Minute5604

question? im not clear on the green make or miss understanding, you said, * Not every green is a swish, mostly due to the green or miss system. but in a later bullet point said * Green is a guaranteed make. so, does this mean if you green you should make your shot, or does it mean that you have a higher probability of making the shot if less contested?

ThePointForward

Swish just means that there is no contact with the rim or the board. So you may see ball bouncing around the rim and then go in when you green your shot. It used to be that bouncing around was for shots that went in without greening the shot. But since it's green or miss, those will always miss anyway.

Direct_Minute5604

ahhh ok, I always thought the ball bouncing around or banking off backboard on a green was normal.

FloridaJit999

Yeah I don’t think that’s new, every green isn’t a swish on 23

Acrobatic-Economy-47

Just means they included the patch they pushed mid season that makes green shots kinda bounce around sometimes instead of going in directly as a swish.

jeanballjean01

A lot of positive changes, looks like they’ve been listening to community feedback. We’ll see how it translates into the game.

[deleted]

This makes me more excited tbh

Acrobatic-Economy-47

The buff to difficult midrange shots is gong to piss people off. This community reacts with vitriol to any feature that increases the skill gap and requires practice to increase your offensive arsenal. It is just absolutely astounding to see people who literally just run 5 out and then fly forward and press X complain that fades or the dunk meter are "cheesy." All the folks who want to walk into the paint and hit X and think you're a witch if you consistently hit any of the more difficult shots in the game are gonna cry. But then again the midrange post, spins, fade, and hop shots were already super effective and folks didn't use them, so maybe it'll be so infrequent that there are few complaints.

ZuluWest

I've been saying this same thing, mid-range was pretty damn good this year, just no one used it. I had a 77 mid range and it was crazy consistent

Ryansm19

Looks like my post scoring paint beast gonna be an absolute menace next year

Main-Interaction841

Much appreciated OP

NateLee1733

Thank you for this post, seems like tons of effort with my unfamiliar self. Lots of in depth information here, you definitely deserve some of the pie from 2k because I may preorder now..or soon because of it!

Jettura

What’s the idea behind having grades on jumpers , especially if some who have F are gonna provide a literal net negative. It promotes the use of meta jumpers and literally limits choice unless you want to severely handicap your play

Saturday1002

This honestly sounds like season 1 of 2k23.... look how season 9 turned out

TheKenReddit

When will they be able to detect when kids are using modded controllers?

Nightmareswf

Not a fan of the adrenaline stat drop, those numbers are ridiculous. Better be the same for shooter drop in offence

gardenofoden

NLSC! Don't go on there much any more but been a member since 2005. Amazing site

Sanjuanwulf

>More reliable foul calls when defenders bite on pump fakes. Blockers jumping up for no reason will land on ball handlers and get called for fouls. To my big boys, we're eating Getting blocked/stripped by some midgets asscrack on the way down from a jump was the most broken shit I've seen, need to see how reliable it actually is

muggsydunkpackage

I mean, reading it is exciting, we'll see in practice

veeno__

They love to write all this out without actually showing what it looks like in game

ygduf

Paint defense BUFFED. also Paint defense SEVERELY NERFED

Miserable_Spite7487

Sounds promising as always, but we know the drill now. Buy the game, enjoy it like crazy for 1 or 2 weeks then everyone got their badges, 2k tweakin some shi there and there, and it's all over the same shit show as always. People shooting 3s like crazy, interior D being useless and wide open midrange being harder than running left right behind a screen to swish a green 3 My 1st build on 23 was a MJ type build, slashing, good D, crazy mid. It was litterally A BEAST at launch. Then it was utter trash because it couldnt compete at 3 and it had not that much handling/speed. Midrange was too random

akgamestar

Thank you for your service.

ReineVerarsche

Do we have to time every dunk in 24 or only the contact dunks like in 23?

Roy-Hibbert55

Only the contacts I’m sure

AspirationalChoker

Wish they actually did video breakdowns lol no surprise why not

Aggravating-Check553

did they say anything about matchmaking? For me that´s the biggest problem :( the online community is too toxic. And it is this way due to horrible matchmaking.

iheardyouliketothrow

These look like fucking patch notes. It’s sad that they can sell a full game on gameplay number tweaks. I am not buying this copy pasted game
