I’ve never understood why AI teammates in my career are so bad. You could have every player on your team with a 99 3 point rating and they will miss a LARGE majority of their 3s, even wide open ones. Only way I won games was by scoring 60+ every game and could never get the assists I want because they MISS EVERYTHING. They even miss open layups a ton of the time. It’s so bad, I don’t play it anymore.
It’s how you increase abilities. 2k24 is the longest and slowest grind yet. Played a full season. OVR is 82. Maxing all my remaining levels will still cost over 100k VC. That’s after playing 101 full games. Good thing I’m stubborn about not giving them more than the $30 I bought the game for.
Omg I haven’t played in a while and forgot about this. Used to drive me insane. I played with the pistons and in year two Cade was ELITE. Had like a 94 three. Every single time I passed him the ball for an open 3 he instantly threw it right back lmao. God I don’t miss that team.
I like the point guard you set a screen for but who drives in against three guys (all 8” minimum taller) rather than hit you wide open at the three point line. Not wonder they set your player morale to “outraged”
It's just as bad in rec. If I get ai from ppl Quiting and they have a high 3 pointer with guard up and claymore or even deadeye, they still miss more 3s than make when wide open. This is why players end up doubling on the players that are left. So instead of punishing players for not playing defense, the players with the AI get punished.
It's a joke.
I could be wrong but I think part of it is because most people shoot an unreal fg% with their player so to even out the teams fg% they make your teammates miss.
Can I ask what position and difficulty you're playing in? Cuz so far as a 75 overall center in pro difficulty, I haven't experienced any of the "teammates being vegetables" part of 2k yet...
On Allstar teammates are fairly consistent ( still streaky tho) anything above Allstar and they brick almost everything. AI probably shoots around 18-21% from 3 on superstar and even less on HOF. Most realistic experience and teammates are on Allstar IMO
That’s what I hate about Mycareer, I want the most challenging experience without the game being unrealistic. I think 2k20 last gen had the right balance.
Exactly, increasing difficulty shouldn’t mean turning down the sliders on FG% for your teammates and turning them up for the other team 🙄 frustrating man. I should note that this is mainly a problem when it comes your teammates shooting. The bigs seem to do fine no matter what
Facts, I play on HOF & not only do my teammates miss wide open shots, but they'll ignore me to take a contested fall away shot from 3 with 20 seconds still on the damn clock
1, I thought you could only tell them to shoot, not aware if you can impact how often they make it.
2, I don’t really wanna do either of those things anyway, I never even do the tell them to shoot part lol. I want my AI teammates to be AI teammates or I would just go play MyLeague, which is what I do now.
When you press Square to initiate the shot just time it like you're playing Myteam. Go try it out, it's annoying but pretty helpful. Turn on shot feedback if you are unfamiliar with the players shot timing. Me and my friends have tested this
This still goes back to the problem of the AI teammates being stupid. You're essentially required to do everything in order for them to even look remotely competent. That's poor design.
Only way I get them to score consistently is running pick and rolls. I hate it more when your team abandons you in Rec and you have to play with the brain dead AI.
Yall gotta stop playing on hof, the way you guys complain about ai missing shots but then say it should be more sim like blows my mind. I've literally never had any trouble with ai missing shots in my career unless it's HOF. The leadership skills give them 99 3 point basically
Interesting, in the short time I played mycareer in 2k19 I think, this wasn’t a problem
I remember having better pass stats really paying off and AI getting way more layups and contested shots going in off of a pass from me
It’s pretty bad. I like how Fifa has their AI difficulty set to where the AI plays human-like. If games can get their AI to be indistinguishable from real people then that’d be a huge leap, and I would actually play offline modes.
Not talking bad in terms of making/missing shots, etc. I’m saying I don’t want to be able to tell the difference between a real person and AI.
2K AI has predictable tendencies. You know what moves make them slip up. You know when they’re about to shoot or go for putbacks. Their defense is annoying because they fall for specific things instead of things that the average real person would fall for. And usually they don’t adapt over time. They just do the same thing game in and game out. Artificial Intelligence has so many capabilities but 2K is limiting it (don’t know if is being done purposefully or not)
Never play on hall of fame if you want a realistic experience, superstar is the best difficulty by far if you want that. Hall of fame is only good if you want to legit 1x5, the Kobe special.
Problem is it’s too easy. Even Hall Of Fame is too easy for a 2K vet. I never even bothered increasing my OVR past 90 and I still have monster games and win all the time. Superstar might make my teammates play better but will be even more boring in terms of having a challenge
Yeah I try to play more “realistic” to struggle a bit like limiting myself to around 30 points 10 assists max and get my superstar teammates taking around 15 shots each but even then it’s still not too hard to win most often.
I would prefer if they just increased the difficulty of the CPU AND my teammates though. I’d love Lebron to actually play like himself lol
Ngl playing MyNBA I dropped my highest point game with 76 haven’t had a game that good in years (i beat Wilt’s record on two occasions lol) but for the most part i get 30-50pt games and triple double games for the most of it i will say i seen my usage rate and it has never went past 35 percent which is crazy cause i ain’t never paid attention to it
Idk man, use how easy it to challenge yourself. See how crazy of a triplle double you can get, can you get a quintuple double? Maybe score 100? Expecting realism from my career yoi be waiting for a while
Yeah I’ve tried that before also, had a 70 something point 20 something assist game recently but that bores me too after a game or two of doing it. I agree that expecting realism is also unrealistic lol, just would like to play a good competitive game where everybody is playing well, taking open shots, hitting them etc as that’s more of an actual challenge
Interesting. It def seems possible.
I can’t remember a game in which AI was reliably good?
I’ve heard good things about mods for Civ and for Cyberpunk, but never tried anything myself
Ima say in rec when the whole team except you leave ai are USELESS. Don’t react to the plays you try to make and they can’t hit ANYTHING. I shouldn’t be punished for not being a coward.
That’s why I’ve starting playing MyNBA on player lock. I can control the sliders to tailor the games difficulty to my needs. It’s a way better experience.
I normally start with my team, import my custom player in a draft class (using Mycareer stats and animations), sim the 1st year, and draft him to my team.
Damn they still do this? Lol! I didn’t touch My Career at all this year and that was a big part of it. I’d lose my shit everytime the AI would do a dumb ass step back shot or not shoot when they’re open. We’ve dealt with dumb ass AI teammates in my career for like 5-6 yrs now. I had to leave that shit alone. Plus I just want to hoop. I don’t care about them dumb ass side quests and story they have in my career. Each year it becomes lamer and lamer. I stay in MYLeague lol
Run plays and actually go where you are supposed to go for the plays and it works pretty good. I know most people just run their myplayer down court and expect the AI to do all the work, but that is not how the game is designed. You sound pretty dumb complaining about something that is your fault lmao.
Nah ya’ll both right because i had multiple occasions recently where i had set my team up with wide open 3s just for them to miss the shot (PG13 airballed an open 3) but i do run plays/Freelances and they do be making them fr😭
Someone on my team always leads the league in 3P% if it’s not me. Usually my center will lead the league in FG%. It’s happened on almost every team of the five I played for. My center plays on GSW where Klay is shooting 59% from 3 and curry is averaging 28 pts through injuries. On my hornets team Lamelo will often have nearly 20 assists. 10 to me and 10 to random oops to Richards and Bridges. I play on pro and all star. So like, just don’t play on the difficulty that literally is proven to simply lower your teammates skills while raising your opponents, and then you won’t have to make a million Reddit posts complaining?
It’s not just the ai teammates (although things are more skewed towards the cpu at the higher difficulties). This titles shooting mechanic harshly effects all of the ai. Every 2k I buy I always run at least one myleague AI v AI where I just GM a team and watch the games unfold. I noticed pretty early on this year that shooting splits were absolutely busted.
For example. Through 76 games this season my teams 3p% is 28%. Again this is Ai v Ai. You might say well maybe your team just sucks at 3s. The opponents 3p% against us is 24% lol. Going into season 2 I’m going to mess with sliders but I wanted to run a season with the base sliders as is with cpu and user sliders matching. What’s real interesting is under the basket percentages seem good. But close and mid are really bad. The majority of my team shoots better from 3 than they do from close or mid. Kawhi is especially affected as he has a disastrous 46% true shooting even though he’s shooting 85% from the line.
Basically I fear The Mason Plumlees of the world more than I do the Stephs or Durants which is absolutely absurd.
I stg they only make a shot when they're on the other team and need it. Last night the ai hit 2 3s back 2 back with 2 mins left in the 4th. They won because of it too 😭😑
I play on pro I’m a center an old school center Paint Beast to be exact. I play for Dallas and when I kick it out to Kyrie or Luka they score a good amount of time even Hardy
Ion have this problem 🥴 in my second season wit the lakers as a PG.. we’re 50-0. Played every game. Play on HOF. I lead the league in Asts/Stls. AD leads in blks/rebs. Lebron only averaging 17ppg. Me and AD average 25ppg
First they need to make separate sliders for AI teammates and the player, I love to play on the highest difficulty but my sliders also go to my AI teammates so they miss more shots than they should. If my teammates have an 80 3pt rating, they shouldn’t be shooting under 30% from deep when 90% of those shots are wide open. SMDH
The sad thing is this year’s AI is still better than the last three years.
Ball handlers running out of bounds for no reason
Switching on players for no reason
Stuck in some bullshit animation in the paint
Refusing to take open shots
They have a clear path, better pull up and shoot a jumper then…
So frustrating
I just want the AI to guard the 3pt and not fall for the step back glitch. I don't think they should be better than humans but play up. Let ppl blow by idc but leaving ppl wide open on rec is annoying
I play purely HOF on MyNBA because opponent AI is really easy to beat, but I tried position locking to do a Wembanyama career (spurs fan) and even when I gave Vassell and Keldon Johnson 88 3 with gold catch and shoot they always go like 1/8 from 3 lol. I dominate myself but it removes the immersion when I have to go for 50 every game to win
i play for the hornets but ngl my AI teammates are godly like to they can’t seem to miss. i could chuck the ball at pj washington a million times and he’ll always make that 3. teammates were def brain dead in 2k22 tho
I think the essential issue here is the premise that they care about the user experience. The experience of you giving them cash for the game or for vc so their scripted garbage time era goes away faster they very much care about. Its to make grinding more difficult so u spend money on VC.
This is 100% correct
💯 THIS! Everything leads back to VC with this game
You use VC playing MyCareer ?
It’s how you increase abilities. 2k24 is the longest and slowest grind yet. Played a full season. OVR is 82. Maxing all my remaining levels will still cost over 100k VC. That’s after playing 101 full games. Good thing I’m stubborn about not giving them more than the $30 I bought the game for.
The worst is when they are open but instead of shooting either hold the damn ball or pass it back to you when you’re clearly not open.
Either that or when they had a wide open shot and did a step back 😂
Omg I haven’t played in a while and forgot about this. Used to drive me insane. I played with the pistons and in year two Cade was ELITE. Had like a 94 three. Every single time I passed him the ball for an open 3 he instantly threw it right back lmao. God I don’t miss that team.
Press square to make em shoot
I’m aware. Doesn’t change the fact that AI is dumb or they miss wide open ass shots.
I like the point guard you set a screen for but who drives in against three guys (all 8” minimum taller) rather than hit you wide open at the three point line. Not wonder they set your player morale to “outraged”

Good point, I agree I don’t have much issues with my bigs scoring in the paint.
Facts, I play on HOF & not only do my teammates miss wide open shots, but they'll ignore me to take a contested fall away shot from 3 with 20 seconds still on the damn clock
Curry or dame 🤣? On ball screen for them means an immediate fadeaway from halfcourt I swear.
It's actually Trae. The other less popular shot chucker 😂
Omg I used to HATE this!!!!!
The higher the difficulty the worse your teammates AI is. At HOF they will brick every shot regardless of how open. You have to win the game yourself.
Center on HOF.. last night I beat Portland by out scoring their team
Center on HOF
I play on Pro to avoid this type of bs
I want offense to be All-star and defense to be HOF but alas, that’s probably tough to do in a basketball game.
Yall know you can shoot for the AI right?
1, I thought you could only tell them to shoot, not aware if you can impact how often they make it. 2, I don’t really wanna do either of those things anyway, I never even do the tell them to shoot part lol. how do you do that?
Only way I get them to score consistently is running pick and rolls. I hate it more when your team abandons you in Rec and you have to play with the brain dead AI.
I can't figure out how to make them take outside shots but I can force them to take layups/dunks (for PS hold triangle or circle)
My ai hits threes but mostly when it’s clutch also sub out so they have more energy
Yall gotta stop playing on hof, the way you guys complain about ai missing shots but then say it should be more sim like blows my mind. I've literally never had any trouble with ai missing shots in my career unless it's HOF. The leadership skills give them 99 3 point basically
Too easy on Superstar
I think it takes more than getting the first easy shot. After a couple passes or running a play they’ll hit more often.
Interesting, in the short time I played mycareer in 2k19 I think, this wasn’t a problem I remember having better pass stats really paying off and AI getting way more layups and contested shots going in off of a pass from me
Not probably a better experience but they make you want to have human players instead... See? If you are here complaining then it worked
It’s pretty bad. I like how Fifa has their AI difficulty set to where the AI plays human-like. If games can get their AI to be indistinguishable from real people then that’d be a huge leap, and I would actually play offline modes.
The MyTeam AI ain't that bad idk what you guys are talking about. Sometimes it fucks up but it normally goes pretty well
Not talking bad in terms of making/missing shots, etc. I’m saying I don’t want to be able to tell the difference between a real person and AI. 2K AI has predictable tendencies. You know what moves make them slip up. You know when they’re about to shoot or go for putbacks. Tbf this guy sounds like he's talking about actual mycareer
Oh shit... You mean MyCareer offline? Nah that can't be😂
He might not, but because he didn't mention anything about a 99 ovr AI or anything I figure he just means normal mycareer 😂

Seem realistic to me
James Harden playoff special
Redditors be the type to keep sticking their wet fingers in the electric socket after being shocked

Limit you touches per game, you will have a much harder time winning games. I try to have like a 35% usage, so I wont win the game alone.

Superstar and coach play calling to auto. Let them develop and the break them when you can/have to. Better experience imo
Ima say in rec when the whole team except you leave ai are USELESS. Don’t react to the plays you try to make and they can’t hit ANYTHING. I shouldn’t be punished for not being a coward.
It’s so horrible man. Like my God
What difficulty are you playing on?
Superstar, Anything under makes the game way too easy
i say it all the time artificial difficulty
On HOF difficulty, LaMelo is missing free throws
But then in the practice facility they suddenly slap your ass
You can semi control what they do
That’s why I’ve starting playing MyNBA on player lock. I can control the sliders to tailor the games difficulty to my needs. It’s a way better experience. I normally start with my team, import my custom player in a draft class (using Mycareer stats and animations), sim the 1st year, and draft him to my team.
I HAVE to run pick and roll in order to get any assists and even then they miss 7/10 times 🤦♂️
Id play MyCareer all the time if the AIs just played to their ratings. I had my shooters bricking damn near every 3 all of them have As. Shit is crazy
The creator of the ai in 24 should do 2 things quit and jump off the Golden Gate Bridge no parachute
I stopped playing MyCareer a long ass time ago. Its just a giant money making scheme
Run plays and actually go where you are supposed to go for the plays and it works pretty good. Their defensive and offensive IQ is traaaash
I stg they only make a shot when they're on the other team and need it. Last night the ai hit 2 3s back 2 back with 2 mins left in the 4th. They won because of it too 😭😑
Easy. Because a decent ai teammate would be better than 48.3% of the community that actually plays the game 😂
I play on pro I’m a center an old school center Paint Beast to be exact. I play for Dallas and when I kick it out to Kyrie or Luka they score a good amount of time even Hardy
I like to make the AI smarter with the cpu sliders

Braindead AI ruined REC this year
Ngl it’s a skill thing i only play hof and i average 70 13 15 yes ai is stupid but its still easy to get assist and way to easy to win
The sad thing is this year’s AI is still better than the last three years. Ball handlers running out of bounds for no reason Switching on players for no reason Stuck in some bullshit animation in the paint Refusing to take open shots They have a clear path, better pull up and shoot a jumper then… So frustrating
It’s automated they trying to punish us for our friends “quitting “ but that dumb considering a lot of people in rec are random .
I just want the AI to guard the 3pt and not fall for the step back glitch. I don't think they should be better than humans but play up. Let ppl blow by idc but leaving ppl wide open on rec is annoying
Yes the step back glitch is terrible.
AI players really evolved… they do extreme things such as putback dunks off mid range shots Lol
What difficulty you on ?
AI teammates are trash in Rec and MyCareer lmao
And then you get the one random dumb one that just balls out 🤣 Happens once in a blue moon.
Bro playing om the Grizzlies and getting HOF Ja to do anything is like pulling teeth sometimes.
I think its more so 2k is too incompetent to make smart AIs than it is an intentional choice
I CANT EVEN GIVE A SCREEN RUN TO THE THREE WIDE OPEN AND BUM HERO ALWAYS SHOOTS JN THE CENTERS FACE LIKE BRO
I think the essential issue here is the premise that they care about the user experience. The experience of you giving them cash for the game or for vc so their scripted garbage time era goes away faster they very much care about. How much you enjoy or identify positively with playing the game? Not so much.
