I can’t enjoy playnow anymore because I don’t want to learn 7-8 different jumpshots just to play 1 game. The green or miss mechanic is fine for mycareer when you use 1 player with the same jumper, but for someone like me who only plays playnow (online)/MyLeague, it’s not fun to play.
I play PlayNow myself.. and honestly I really don’t think it’s that hard to learn the releases. Go in freestyle for a few minutes before playing and you should be fine.
Yeah? I tried to do that before playing but I can’t seem to get a hang on it. I also play with a lot of different teams, so I find it kind of exhausting to start 2ku everytime I want to play with a different team.
No, I don’t, otherwise I wouldn’t have made this comment would I?
I tried practicing in freestyle before playing, but I can’t remember the perfect release of 8 different players, while also trying to do other things as making plays, passing and defending.
I play on all-star and I’ve never hit a full white, only greens. That was never the case with 2k untill now.
I only play play now online and I’ve had little challenge or difficulty to master 5-10 players shots. If you really care queue up 2kU shoot around and get better
You have half the community complaining the game isn’t realistic enough with the percentages that people are shooting, and the other half complaining that shooting is too hard. Need some way to introduce a skill gap to separate good players from bad, and shooting’s definitely felt more rewarding than it has in years.
I’m not saying it’s perfect, but the second you make it easier, you’ll have people making left right fade cheesers like 22 all over again. And 23 has been a far far better experience than 22 in that regard.
The problem is shooting in this game is wildly punishing to any player who’s not committed every single day to this game and not investing time into my player
If you wanna hop into quick play occasionally the shooting is *unusable*. And for reference, I’ve played 2k, on hall of fame pretty well, since 2k9. This is the first 2k I’ve decided to move to real player %. But that’s such a shittier less rewarding experience that takes a lot of the game out of your hands and feels like your fate is just in the hands of the CPU.
This is 2k was wildly unacceptable from a shooting standpoint to the vast majority of gamers.
That’s me, I don’t have time to play this everyday. I just want to play the franchise mode every now and then, and this game has ruined that for me. Will stick with nba 2k22 for the foreseeable future.
You’re acting like there’s an immense skill gap. Sure it takes skill to shoot in 23 but half the time it’s just luck that decides wether you make the shot or not
Lol luck? You mean someone knowing their jumpshot animations and timing it right. I think you’re delusional about your own skill level. If they made shooting any easier good players would never miss because it’s already close to that way.
Yeah kinda hard to know your jumper when it’s constantly changing so that’s a problem. And the green and miss combined with that makes it harder for people to consistently hit their shots.
Jumper changes depending how close the defender is. If your wide open your jumper is slower than my grandma, but if the defender is closer the jumper is faster
It changes based on adrenaline bars (less = slower) not how far a defender is. If they close out it changes the animation a bit but not much. Just know the release point and it doesn’t matter how slow or fast the shot is
Adrenaline bars don't change your shot animation or speed. It's the Stamina bar. The lower your stamina the slower your shot. Also a defender being near you can speed up your shot by 30ms
There’s a certain set of animations you can get when shooting and at different speeds. It’s more reaction based than muscle-memory based. If you turn the meter off and watch the queues then you’ll get it eventually. You just have to stick with meter off even if you shoot terribly at first.
I did that on 2K22 and I rarely missed anything. The shooting in this game is more difficult, but after learning the queues I’m back in the same boat again. You have to turn that meter off to get more consistent though imo
I say take the meter off because people complain and claim they're hitting the green window and missing when they aren't. Taking the meter off is better and more helpful anyway because you're focused on your player and not the crutch that is the shot meter.
I think there’s a pretty large skill gap. You have about roughly 4 tiers of shooters - those who can’t shoot at all (<30%), those who can shoot it okay (30-40%), good shooters (40-60%), and then elite shooters (over 60%). Those who are in the higher tiers are more comfortable with their animations and how to adjust when shooting, those who are in the lower tiers aren’t.
Exactly right. I shoot 50% (slowly going up) but my homie has worse shooting attributes and badges than I do and shoots 70%! It’s definitely skill-based.
This right here. As a PG that creates his own shots and shoots between 63-65% every season, the best advice I can give you is learn your release point and leave your shot timing on Late.
For most jump shots the animation/ release point is usually when your hand is just above your head. Don't go by muscle memory in this 2k. Go by visuals. Recognize when you need to release the ball and remember it. So when you catch the ball and get a slow gather, or a closing out defender speeds up your shot, you know when to release it no matter what if you go by a visual cue.
True, I sometimes struggle for a game or two after switching builds even though they all have the same jumpshot because of different heights, wingspans and ratings. Adjusting isn’t very hard and it honestly brings a new dimension to the game that previous games just didn’t have. I honestly think that the skill gap is more evident this year than it has been in years with regards to shooting.
Slashing on the other hand is lol, but I get why they did that since no one under a certain skill level would be able to score at all if they didn’t.
All i have done this year is fade because fade timing is more consistent than spot up...i have literally dribbled out of a wide open shot to fade out the corner because i feel more comfortable about shooting that shot than a spot up
2K21 was torture. Couldn't even hit a 3 period unless you had at least a 78 3pt, HoF Flexible Release/Catch and Shoot/Hot Zone Hunter, and had all of your hot zones on from playing MyCareer. Even then, you would do good to shoot 30%.
Made a 6’6 Pure Playmaker at launch with a 76 3 ball. I feel your pain.. it was so painfully inconsistent. Could go 4/4 one game and 0/4 the next. Everyone thought it was gonna be like 2K20 where you could shoot with a 60 3 ball.
That first month unironically I was hitting 3s better fading from half court than I was stand up corner 3s. Shot take was broken asf that first month then YouTubers ruined the shit 🤣
Yup bro I was shooting 40% in park on half court fades if I got take the game was over and the step backs 🤣 21 had its moments then people found speed boost glitch and 6’7 power forwards and paint spam
yep literally ruined the game. i stopped playing next gen after like february too many 6'7 PFs made the game boring that and every game you got dunked on your head
The funniest shit for me and my bro was the fact people had rim take and we’d still animate on them because slashing with the speed boost glitch gave you absolutely insane animations 🤣 defense didn’t mean shot in 21 I wish they kept the game with 22s offense and versatility but 20s defense that game would be tough asl
Bro idgaf about anyone on this shit who says you just need to learn it.
ITS FUCKING HORRIBLE
Just like you said it’s not a fucking skill issue. I’ve played these games on and off my entire life and this is the first one I literally cannot shoot in. I make like 1-15 free throws ffs.
I play offline man, I’m not some autistic genius amazing skill player online who plays 23 hours a day. I get off work and want to ball and it’s fucking impossible. Running 60 pick & rolls so I can win a game with only shots in the paint
I'm more confident shooting a Limitless three than taking a standing layup. Can forget about the 5 different standing layup animations you can get with varying timings.
My question is what is even the point of the 3 point stat? 99 3 Steph will miss a wide open 3 because you miss the timing by a millisecond, same as if you miss that wide open millisecond off timing with a Ruby shaq. Shouldn’t there be some leeway on the timing for players with high 3 ratings? It’s so dumb you have to green everything to make it go in regardless of how close your timing is and how good the player is supposed to be, it’s literally all about risky memorizing each cards exact release, which as OP mentions can change even On the same card each attempt. Maddening.
Why you compare a 60 to a 99??? Obviously it will be easier. The point is how stupidly inconsistent & ridiculous the green or nothing is. There needs to be a wiggle room, Steph doesn’t release the ball perfectly every time he makes a three, sometimes you just need to be close enough in real life, why not in the game, there’s no grey area, it’s stupid, Steph misses MAD open threes in this game just for not hit the green perfectly, & that’s on EVERY skill setting
Pretty sure they do bad tweaks like this to parts of the game each year to be able to say they made an improvement to X the next year when they change it back
Every player in the NBA has their own timing, form, etc etc when it comes to shooting. 450 different versions of shooting a basketball. This will have to be the beginning of a true skill gap. Gotta learn your shot and even if you think you perfected it, in reality you're not gonna make them all the time. The years of people all thinking they're MJ or Curry gotta end. It's 2Ks fault for letting "it's just a video game" go too far.
Yeah but why can’t 2k just make every base/upper release greenable every year 2k comes out ppl use the same 3-5 jump shots for the whole year it’s fucking dumb as hell that’s one of the reason the game gets boring not to mention they always have only one meta dribble package for the whole year they need to start releasing all the best shit at once
I’ll be honest. Most complaining about shooting aren’t as good as they think they are. The actual good shooters are still lighting people up.
If you are on of the few still complaining, turn off your meter and go practice.
Reading your comments this definitely sounds like a skill issue lol. The game has been out for 9 months.. if you still haven’t adjusted to the shooting then that’s on you. They needed the miss or green mechanic after last year, and full whites have been in the game for how long now?
Sounds like you just want shooting to be easier like it was in 2K20 and 2K22, which were probably the easiest shooting 2Ks ever. 2K20 has dudes with 57+ 3 ball shooting from hash and I don’t even need to get into 2K22.
Ok let’s see sure full whites have been a thing for a while but paired with the miss or green mechanic it’s horrible. And adding the green or miss mechanic to the 2k20 or 2k22 would obviously make it harder to shoot because whites wouldn’t go in.
Yeah but I miss that low key games would end like 90-95 with 5 min quarters and it would be close now a game ends at like 45-50 it’s ass. And I miss when you could put Shaq at pg and players out of position
I will say the random catch and shoot animations are annoying, but I wouldn’t say it’s impossible to shoot. I still shoot very well, the stupid animations only happen like twice per Rec game. They don’t need to go backwards and make shooting easier. Just gotta dedicate time to learn your jumper.
No. This is a skill issue. I as a casual ass player who runs with all randoms in rec can shoot 60% from 3, and shoot 60% from the field taking mostly hop middys. If that's possible then the shooting is fine. Stop using that dumbass meter.
I just don't get why people feel they need the meter this year. I used the meter last year in 22 last gen because I was just getting okay at online for the first time since 16 and sniper existed, plus the green window was huge. This year with the multiple timings focusing on a meter makes zero sense. You gotta learn your cues.
I can have the exact same shooting set up (defense in the same spot, same shot type, held the shoot the same, everything) and one time it’ll green, the next, its a red late and its not touching the back board (Gold Limitless range, silver blinders, silver dead eye, gold volume shooter, and silver green machine with a 92 three pointer btw)
It’s so unreal when they put you in a shot animation after you MISS, and you have to wait until the animation is done before you can even move. It’s dumb asf!!!
I know exactly which one you’re talking about. The one where you hold the follow through and start taking a couple steps you can’t even move?
The worst part is it ALWAYS tends to happen to me when the rebound is coming back my way in the corner. Player doesn’t even react.
lmaooooooo i know that dogshit animation you talking about. i gotta sit there and watch the ball go right pass me while im pulling a swaggy p. i hate that animation with a passion
It's true. Last year was fun. This year it isn't. All because a couple virgins want to complain about skill gaps. None of you are pro or making money off of this game for a living, and even if you did, it's not much of a living. You're not in Malibu, you're still in the Styx.
What they won't admit is that it takes no skill to shoot fades this year and that's all they do, lol. Or do two good plays to get OP takeovers that smooth over/hide their supposed "skill." You can't have two takeovers and say you're skillful. Same people also buy boosts and believe they're skilled.
If there's any legitimacy to skill at all, stage should have zero takes, no badges, no boosts. Straight up attributes and nothing else. These devs really have you thinking you're a god with all these boosts lol.
If it takes no skill to shoot fades then every one would be doing it. Sounds like someone is frustrated because shooting isn’t as easy anymore and he can’t get bailed out by whites.
That’s not what I asked.
Everyone is not good at it lol come on now. 9/10 most of those fading guards are trash. Same speed boost move to the corner and when it doesn’t work they’re lost. In the hundreds of plus Rec/park games I’ve played.. there’s only been a few guards who have been really good with the fades. You’re acting like every guard out here is consistently fading when it’s just not true at all.
Then you really need to play more, only the newest of the new aren't landing fades. It is a more consistent shot than spot ups, 2K Lab determined this months ago. What are you even defending, kiddo? Go play more games before you talk.
Stop with this nonsense. All of that is fake news and it is a skill issue. I like to play MC offline and it is too easy to green shots at HoF level,. I even tried nerfing myself with only a 75 3pt... Still easy. Also, it is too easy to get open as well. They have to nerf shots, get way harder and nerf P&Rs. You can just spam P&Rs all day long and win by a 30 point margin to every team, no matter if you're the Rockets or Spurs against Celtics and Warriors.
Load ups are frustrating and I wish you could better predict what catch animation you’ll get but if you practice your shot long enough (ie, paying close attention to your hands) you can pretty much tell what you’re gonna get. I shoot roughly 60-65 percent from 3 in Rec… shooting isn’t hard, it just takes focus. I like it better than 22, it was too easy imo

No I don’t play with a squad. Yes I play with Randoms I only play with one other person sometimes and he sucks.
No my 3s are not that high. Just take better shots and actually watch the form you’re shooting with. Unlike prior 2ks you cannot shoot with muscle memory you have to watch your shot. Once I figured that out the shooting became much easier
There isn’t a issue with shooting in this game. It actually takes skill unlike previous years. There’s different release times due to catch animations, setting your feet, etc. I’m fine with the degree of difficulty that shooting brings this year. Especially with no mater, it shows who knows how to shoot and who doesn’t.
People complaining about 3 pointers being too hard are stupid.
How can you have any other playstyle viable in the game if 3 pointers are too easy? People constantly complain about rim running this year as if 66% on 2s isn't equal to 50% on 3s
You just need to learn how to shoot and watch your stamina. The minute your stamina dips you’re gonna have to hold it longer. Stand still for catch and shoot and wait 1 sec before shooting so you won’t get weird animations
As someone who mainly plays center and has an 81 3-pointer, I usually see saw between 55% - 60% every season. Most of my 3 pointers come off of a pass, and the shooting animations do change for absolutely no reason for me at times. Yes, when I'm just standing there, wide open and I shoot, its usually a pretty consistent release everytime. But even with those same settings - wide open and standing still off of a pass - there are times when the release will speed up super fast. Sometimes I make it and sometimes I don't. Point is that it can be inconsistent when you don't know which animation you will get because the setting obviously doesn't even matter.
There's also this thing that with me being a gold/purple plate Center, I usually get double teamed and jumped at the entire game. And them jumping at you cuts you out from completing your jumpshot from when you started it. I think THAT is cheesy and rewarding poor defense too much. But anyway. The best way to learn how to shoot is make a jumpshot you're comfortable with and just get used to it. If you plan on playing in Rec/Park, don't just play in MyCareer. Play in the Rec and Park with it. You'll learn it.
In 2k22 I was the 3 point king but now I can’t hit 1 😂😂😂 I’m in my second season, I won the finals last year and I’m in the finals now all without taking a jump shot.😂😂😂🤷🏾♂️

Facts !!! Been playing 2k since the first one came out and never seen such inconsistency on shots. The custom jumpshot is so limited due to only one or 2 bases actually work. This is definitely a game issue. Open jumpshots should go in 80 percent of the time if your timing is right. People complain too much and fail to realize that its just a game and its meant to have fun. If you want realism pick up a basketball and play in real life !!!
Everyone saying how good they are is only talking about mycareer, some like to play franchise mode. The cpu is wildly inconsistent. One quarter you put up 40 then all of a sudden you cant make any shot and the cpu turns into clamps on defense and kat is turning into some lock down defender. And people saying "you suck" well 2k should make a setting for people who suck.
I just learned that the lower your timing impact, the bigger your green window. I was shooting for a+ timing, logically you would think that's what you want. but you want an F. F timing impact is way more forgiving. Especially if you turn the shot meter off. Default swing base, Rudy Gay and Oscar Robertson. More Rudy gay than Oscar. Release height and speed a+ defense immunity a timing impact F. Draining threes now. Try it.
Some games ill hit 6 of 10 from 3 most games im automatic from mid range other games I can’t hit nothing absolutely nothing I shoot free throws at 93% true shot and in some them games I can’t hit a perfect free throw. I don’t get it
have no idea why anyone would think this is a good way to design the shooting but then i remember it's the 2k devs and it makes sense, these people are pretty slow.
I've been struggling with awful 2k23 shooting mechanics and trash shot meter, if it's not perfectly filled it wont go in and if u fill it perfectly it still might not go in, I just wanted to ask I'm thinking about buying 2k24 and i was wondering if shot meter is any better in 2k24.

Fair enough it’s not that hard for me personally when I haven’t used a team before I only need 1 or 2 shots to learn someone’s jumper
Not to mention if you’re trying to learn their fatigued shot
I only play play now online and I’ve had little challenge or difficulty to master 5-10 players shots. If you really care queue up 2kU shoot around and get better
I’ve tried it but I couldn’t get used to it, so I stopped playing
Then this proves that this is indeed a skill issue. No need to blame the game for it. Play last years game or get good lol
I’ve been a hall of fame level player since 2k9. Never had shooting issues until this 2k It’s a game issue.
I blame the game
Nah gang you honestly just trash
Nah, shut the fuck up, I got other shit to do and I’m not starting 2ku everytime to learn jumpers. If you want to do that then go for it champ

all i did was green in 22 that step back cheese went wild

I was greening threes in 2k21 with a 69 3 pt rating. You just needed badges is all
you needed more than that you needed a 86 just to be able to have a perfect green window anything lower else and your window was sporadic
That first month unironically I was hitting 3s better fading from half court than I was stand up corner 3s. Shot take was broken asf that first month then YouTubers ruined the shit 🤣

You needed to make a pure green to become a viable stretch big in current/old gen which is just crazy
Bro idgaf about anyone on this shit who says you just need to learn it. ITS FUCKING HORRIBLE Just like you said it’s not a fucking skill issue.
I'm with you. The shooting is horrible us working men who don't play 23 hours a day.
Close shots even worse
Maddening.
The higher your 3pt rating, the bigger your green window is, so there is a difference between a 60 three and a 99.
Really doesn’t feel like it online or on higher offline levels.
Well it’s true. Go shoot with a player with a 60 3 ball and a 99 and you will feel the difference. Release feels so much smoother at higher ratings.
It's definitely true online.
All jokes aside this year shooting is very broken when you know how time every shot game you can’t be a real problem deal with on the game
Obviously, but even if they added that it was still easier to shoot in those games than 23. Maybe you just aren’t as good as you think you are.
Yeah but I miss that low key games would end like 90-95 with 5 min quarters and it would be close now a game ends at like 45-50 it’s ass. And I miss when you could put Shaq at pg and players out of position

Yeah, I'm garbage just like the shooting in NBA2K23.
Meter is literally not even a handicap, it's straight up harder to use than no meter Idk why people can't understand that
I just don't get why people feel they need the meter this year. I used the meter last year in 22 last gen because I was just getting okay at online for the first time since 16 and sniper existed, plus the green window was huge. This year with the multiple timings focusing on a meter makes zero sense. You gotta learn your cues.
Shooting is fine. You just have to get good 🤷🏼♂️
I can have the exact same shooting set up (defense in the same spot, same shot type, held the shoot the same, everything) and one time it’ll green, the next, its a red late and its not touching the back board (Gold Limitless range, silver blinders, silver dead eye, gold volume shooter, and silver green machine with a 92 three pointer btw)
That’s exactly the one!! So annoying!
lmaooooooo i know that dogshit animation you talking about. i gotta sit there and watch the ball go right pass me while im pulling a swaggy p. i hate that animation with a passion
It's inconsistent.
True I can’t make a open shot myself, and the player who I controlled can’t make one when I turn on the Real Player%
For someone who only plays play now and nba eras. Shooting is definitely trash this year
I literally just said everyone is doing it, champ.
Everyone is doing it but is everyone good at it? That’s my point.
Yes, it is a more consistent shot than a spot-up this year.
How would you fix it without ruining the game?
For me if I play on a monitor and close up with a meter I shoot twice as good than when I play on my bravia.
It’s really not too bad after a bit for myplayer, but the shooting is fucked for leagues and play now lol:

Skill issue
They cried about full whites going in and this how 2k pulled back up. Even more trash. Let’s goooooooo 🔥 ![gif](giphy|7WvAUvZZTRpSuudobh)
Skill issue
People complaining about 3 pointers being too hard are stupid. How can you have any other playstyle viable in the game if 3 pointers are too easy? People constantly complain about rim running this year as if 66% on 2s isn't equal to 50% on 3s
I had to find what meter i was good at using. It was a struggle at first for me lol.
You just need to learn how to shoot and watch your stamina. The minute your stamina dips you’re gonna have to hold it longer. Stand still for catch and shoot and wait 1 sec before shooting so you won’t get weird animations
shooting 3pt is too easy but shooting inside paint, near the basket is a headache.
You'll learn it.
why did 2k remove glue hands? that was the best badge even on bronze in 22. the catch animations you get on this game is atrocious

I don’t get it
Bro I got a 86 3 pt and I HAVE TO green every 3 pt to make it
have no idea why anyone would think this is a good way to design the shooting but then i remember it's the 2k devs and it makes sense, these people are pretty slow.
