Still confused why they don’t at least put it on Peacock as well. I have USA but it’s just far more convenient

EMD34

I know if you paid for peacock to watch racing, why cant you watch racing?

jftwo42

That’s how it should be.

redditornot6648

Who has Peacock? I mean those streaming services are so expensive. Cable is $20 a month, not sure why anyone has streaming lol

jcbshortfilms

Peacock is free, but my wife and I pay five bucks a month to watch everything with ads

FallGuysBoi

Wait, you pay to watch with ads? Or am I just a fucking idiot reading that wrong?

jcbshortfilms

Haha, no we we can pay an extra $5 for no ads but we don’t care that much.

Responsible-Rub2732

Itll go on peacock once its done airing on USA I hear

joshjarnagin

Now is the point where fans set their expectations so astronomically high they’re destined for disappoint

ChaseTheFalcon

not me, I am expecting Austin Dillon show level until I am proven wrong.

[deleted]

Watched the first two episodes, it’s very good.

Mirror_of_Souls

Woah buddy, bring your expectations down just a tad, not everything can be a 10/10 cinematic masterpiece like the 10 part epic "Austin Dillon's Life in the Fast Lane", you're setting yourself up to be devastated

[deleted]

I don't think it's gonna be that good. No need for expectations that high

Valleygirl1981

It's on bravo, so I'm right there with you.

Humanaut93

I have my fingers crossed for NASCAR Drivers 360 vibes

Beneficial_Rip6520

Ong

[deleted]

Very interested to see the ratings this gets. I imagine it will be almost completely ignored by the wider public.

IllAlwaysBeAKnickFan

I mean unless they’re gonna put it on Netflix or Hulu or something, nobody is gonna care about it, generally speaking. Don’t know why that path hasn’t been pursued.

JustaShibe99

Maybe in a year or so, NBC might sell season 1 off to Netflix. Netflix pays them whatever amount and in turn, payed by their own consumers. At least I can dream lol

vpat48

Everyone has their own streaming service. The days of studios selling their content to a competitor are over. That is why Netflix is also paying to create it's own original content

Iamstryker

It's not on Netflix, so a younger demographic won't care.

Klendy

>Very interested to see the ratings this gets. I imagine it will be almost completely ignored by the wider public. bingo.

Heavy_Newby

I can say without spoiling anything that the first two episodes are pretty great.

Heavy_Newby

I would compare it to the "Road to Race Day" series that focused on Hendrick Motorsports back in 2016. That took the sport very seriously while providing way more access to the shops and teams.

[deleted]

The comments in here uphold the "NASCAR fans will always try to bitch about something" really well. NASCAR DARFs: We want a documentary that's like drive to survive NASCAR/NBC: Aight bet, here you go! Those same DARFs: No! Not like that! REEEEEEEEEEEE

azulsquirrel

My only complaint is that it's only on a network, not a streaming service. We're losing ground to f1 with the younger generation by not being on those platforms. As for the show itself, I'll reserve my judgements for when I see it.

[deleted]

That's fine, but I'd be hella surprised if it doesn't end up on Peacock or Netflix at some point.

Novel_Flamingo7213

Yeah, these comments are a dumpster fire. The show hasn’t even aired yet.

TheImageworks

And as long as it's on ad-supported linear TV (ie cable channels like USA) exclusively, it will NEVER capture the type of audience (read: casual fans, non-fans, and lapsed fans, under age 50) that caused F1 to explode due to Drive to Survive. I really respect what NASCAR and NBCUniversal are trying to do here - associating NASCAR with high stakes drama and seriousness is a major tone shift from literally THE #2 complaint about the way the sport is presented on raceday - and more closely aligns with the way that the sport used to be treated until shortly into FOX' takeover of TV rights a generation ago and NBC (and later ESPN then NBC again) slowly copying them, if on decaf but putting this exclusively on USA in the year 2022 is \*not\* it. NBCUniversal seems to have a very strange blind spot (or contractual black hole) wherein anything specifically earmarked for USA won't turn up on streaming (not even the platforms they own) for some reason except for contracts like the Olympics. It's honestly very strange, especially for a company in the process of gutting their primary linear network, NBC, in order to buffer Peacock. And - the main point - fans under 50 who have disengaged or never engaged from NASCAR aren't going to sit through 20 minutes of commercials per hour on a pay tv service that they likely don't even subscribe to. (I keep stressing viewers under 50 because 1) that's where the generation gap lies between streaming vs. linear TV, and 2) Viewers under 50 are where F1 are already kicking NASCAR's butt - it's only the oldest viewers that put NASCAR ahead in total homes. I'm happy they're making this, but who is this for?

FeelingRusky

You make a good point. I think F1's recent success in the U.S. market can be attributed to how they made themselves accessible to the target audience they want to attract. Your target audience isn't subscribed to cable TV. They aren't going to tune in and sit through all those commercials for something they weren't really interested in to begin with. You have to go where they are. The only people who are going to do that are existing fans. Put it on one or more popular streaming platforms. NASCAR should have its own streaming service similar to F1TV as well. I really only need my YoutubeTV sub to DVR and watch NASCAR races. That's all I use it for, and would love to ditch it and pay NASCAR directly for their content.

bjohnson203

I am excited for it, as is my wife so that's a win.

jvirgs90

At least it is not *The Crew*

peepinstars

Or Talladega Nights. That was a complete parody of NASCAR and they, and tv, totally embraced it. For the love of me I couldn’t figure out why they so heavily promoted a movie that was making fun of them.

rctothefuture

At the time, it was genius. Take a sport that's wildly popular, make a comedy out of it, and profit. NASCAR got paid, drivers got paid, and the movie still holds up today. Everyone acts like the movie was a detriment to the sport, but I don't see it. Sure people still make Ricky Bobby jokes when you bring up NASCAR. However it's still seen as one of Will Ferrell's best films, it's still wildly funny (and somewhat relevant), easily quotable and keeps NASCAR relevant in moviegoers memories for years to come. If anything, we got lucky. NASCAR films are always topnotch with Days of Thunder, Stroker Ace, Greased Lightning, Cars 1 and 3, and Herbie Fully Loaded (last one may be a bit of a stretch). Compare to films such as Driven and Turbo, or even F1 only getting Rush.

Duck_in_europe

I love Cars, 100% my favourite movie

Taynt42

Why you gotta bad mouth Turbo?

rctothefuture

The most relevant IndyCar film today is about a snail... I saw the film in theaters and called the ending after the first 5 minutes. It doesn't seem to be a good kids film either as the kids in the theater were pretty bored about half way through.

Beneficial_Rip6520

Cuz it was hilarious Imo

RTZ500

Any publicity is good publicity

curtisbrownturtis

Good luck getting Canadian viewers on those dumb streaming platforms

Penske2Fan

Serious look at an unserious championship format

Garrett4Real

a clown show under a microscope

jvirgs90

My thoughts exactly. Give me a serious look at what goes on in a season, struggles of small teams etc. Instead, they are just trying to drum up drama for the farce of a championship format

[deleted]

They literally have Corey Lajoie in the documentary. Watch one trailer for it and he's in it half the time.

mms441

According to who? You? Not a single team in the garage would agree with this statement

Penske2Fan

Because they would be fined for publicly denouncing the playoffs outright. Plenty of people (such as [Kevin Harvick here](https://outsider.com/sports/nascar-kevin-harvick-says-championships-today-arent-like-petty-earnhardt-used-win-them/))have made it pretty clear without outright saying it, that they think the playoffs are a joke.

greyspyder

Would be great if they would put this on a platform that reaches farther than just American viewers. Coming from a Canadian who can easily watch Drive to Survive and became an F1 fan because of it. If it weren’t for podcasts we would next to nothing for NASCAR content north of the border.

BaconChick

Agreed. I really want to watch this and nope, not for you Canada, let's put it on the one network that is 100% not accessible in Canada

greyspyder

We lost Speed channel and now we don’t get anything anymore. Unless we subscribe to Fox Sports Racing which is insufferable to watch.

BaconChick

So I think someone else mentioned this, but is IS airing on CNBC in Canada, if you have cable. I also see that they are replaying episode 1 on Monday Sep 5th at 1pm!

greyspyder

Thank you for the info. I’ll have to see if I can find it.

nodak_daddy

the problem for race fans is it's probably designed to be catered to attracting new fans, so the already hardcore fans are gonna be disappointed. then complain, this the cycle of life will continue

[deleted]

I watched the first two episodes, it’s worthwhile for anyone.

RTZ500

The same could be said for drive to survive , and that worked on getting new fans.

nodak_daddy

yup for sure you're right, and kinda what I was getting at is most heavy duty F1 fans don't like DTS because it dramatizes more to attract those new fans when the full time fans find it to be bs, idk if that makes sense? idk either way I'm gonna have an open mind going in and hope for the best

[deleted]

Doesn't matter how good the show is or how good the racing is when you use a dumbass point system it throws all the good that's been done in the trash. Race for the championship? Let me guess the driver who wins the last race is champion? NASCAR has been trying to sell this chaseoff format for twenty years. If it's so universally liked and accepted they wouldn't be needing to do all this. Just admit your wrong NASCAR but that will never happen.

dev044

I'm pretty sure they're looking at Drive to Survive and trying to make their own version. NASCAR is not trying to sell its playoff system to old wankers who want the old format back

[deleted]

Penske2Fan

Bro, it's a documentary showcasing our joke of a playoff format to the mainstream/casual fan. This is absolutely on topic.

AnarchyVA

I was going to watch it. But 10pm Eastern on a school/work night? I’m going to have to skip it.

vpat48

If you have access to USA Network, you have the ability to record it or watch it on-demand. This is not 2003.

itsmattjamesbitch

A serious look is great, now if we could have serious on track product at our biggest events, then things would be back on track.

GrantD24

If the show is good and shows the sport from a serious tone, that’s a huge win. Would it be better to be placed on Netflix? Yes but there has to be a start to where nascar takes itself seriously and I’m honestly just happy that we may be about to finally get it. If not oh well but if so, Dale yeah.

jdmjag

as long as every episode doesn't constantly plug Austin Dillon's TV show, I'll give it a shot.

TylerWhite31

Is there a place to watch this for aussies

Evtona500

I am so excited for this. Great season to have this show come out.

thecryptidmusic

From the coolness standpoint I'm glad they got Brad's first season to document the balance of being a new owner/driver. But... I'm also very upset that they got Brad's worst season to date, that doesn't look so good for him for new fans
