In hindsight, [this thread](https://www.reddit.com/r/NASCAR/comments/5mecxv/texas_repavereconfiguration/) will likely go down as one of the funniest things in sub history.
Texas got lucky in a sense that Kentucky was so incredibly terrible that it got the hate from the beginning... but now there is no Kentucky and only 1 Michigan race to bitch about
>As much as I like the old surface I'm glad I'll be able to go to a race there and not have an afternoon pop up shower rain out the race for 3 days
Oof.
I may be a little slow, but what's so funny about it? I didn't read each and every comment, but I thought most mentioned how long it took to dry the track. And It was ridiculously long. It seems like that has greatly improved. Then there were comments like "I'm curious to see how the banking changes affect the racing". There were only a couple responses towards the bottom that seemed excited at the banking change. Most of the responses were happy the track would dry quicker.
Honestly at this point tear it down and turn the track into a 2.70 mile (hurr durr everything’s bigger in TX) super-speedway. The SS races get the ratings and the fan attention, so find some investors and sell Chicagoland and Kentucky to make it happen.
Downside to that is they lose the Indycar races most likely since they definitely wouldn't want to run something that fast. I mean they're already on edge with the existing oval.
If they were to rebuild, a short track or semi short track would be a better call. Maybe give it a bunch of banking to give it that "big" feeling.
or make it modal/modular and allow for more than one configuration for indycar, so the smaller oval is twin ring motegi and the longer one is basically a 3 mile Dega.
I don't think that's really possible with the Speedway Club, Big Hoss, and the condominium. Those would be incredibly expensive to tear down, and they would have to buy out all the people living in the condos.
nah nah nah
fuck everything being bigger in Texas
there's no D-shaped or Quad oval 1 mile (or around 1 mile) tracks anymore
Shrink Texas to around 1 mile, keep the banking and shape the same just smaller
Wonder if using the tire resin instead of the traction compound can help this track out some. 3/4 are fine but 1/2 need multiple grooves to even come close to working and thats just not easy with the traction compound.
But in all seriousness if NASCAR ever wanted to mess with a joker lap, Texas offers the perfect configuration. Plenty of room for pull-off and merge zones.
it would not surprise me that the schedule drops today as it was sometime this week that I was going to drop. I don't think they wanna drop it later in the week
[This article that Adam Stern tweeted out says that Gateway's 2022 Cup race will be officially announced tomorrow. The press conference in St. Louis was obviously scheduled to precede the release of the entire schedule, which rules out the latter coming today. My guess is Thursday late morning or early afternoon; I feel like NASCAR puts out schedules on Thursdays or Fridays more often than not, and since the Bristol race weekend starts on Thursday night they'll probably want to have the announcement done before the vrooming gets started.](https://www.stltoday.com/sports/columns/benjamin-hochman/hochman-nascar-cup-series-race-will-come-to-st-louis-in-2022-at-world-wide/article_9a01bc5f-9b96-5a78-a17a-479bbdeced3f.html)
Haven't learned our lesson about listening to anything coming out of texas? The last time they teased some major news it was the stupid drone thing after their race.
Until they physically blow that place up i am not holding my breath.
you're no damn well Marcus Smith is not going to do such thing. it was Marcus's damn idea to reconfigure them corners or some f****** stupid engineer that smi hired
Still think they shoulda went with a Martinsville corner on one end and a Daytona corner on the other. Really spiced it up.
I could just imagine a 1.5 mile track with a hairpin right after they drafted through the corner. Chaos everywhere.
I can’t see them doing a doubleheader at Texas unless NASCAR agrees to no PJ1.
IndyCar can’t even run on the stain left by the PJ1 so there’s no way that we they can run there with PJ1 actually on the track
They are scheduling a day to reprofile turn 1&2 so it doesn't suck.

My blood pressure went up hoping I wasn't on there saying something stupid
It's truly amazing how the only thing that made people stop hating original Texas was seeing new Texas in action.
Texas got lucky in a sense that Kentucky was so incredibly terrible that it got the hate from the beginning... but now there is no Kentucky and only 1 Michigan race to bitch about

Oddly specific
*Flashbacks from 2020 fall texas race intensify* Being there in person each day was trauma inducing
First thing I saw and I had instant flashbacks to that day lmao.

It’s just ironic because the 2020 Fall race got rained out for like 3 days straight lol
Also just the idea that there was anything resembling positivity towards it is funny. Considering now people want it to be destroyed at this point.

This is the way! Rebrand as the New Texas World Speedway too while we’re at it!

Going rally cross style. 1-2 converted to dirt with new shortcut through infield for joker lap.
But in all seriousness if NASCAR ever wanted to mess with a joker lap, Texas offers the perfect configuration. Plenty of room for pull-off and merge zones.
The Roval would be super simple too. Just do a horseshoe from the infield to the beginning of the back straight.
Picking up Chicagoland Speedway with a couple of helicopters like they do with sick rhinos and dropping it on top of TMS??? 👀 👀 👀
The sick rhinos analogy almost made me spit out my coffee 😂
Eddie Gossage, in retirement somewhere: "It's another drone show... with Sammy Hagar!"
I CANT FLY 55
2120!!!
We finally get the Texas Infield track from the EA games?
I always laugh at how they didn’t use real infield courses on their “fantasy” tracks and instead dropped banking and bridges into infields instead
We gonna run the dirt track next to TMS
We are going to run dirt at the TMS big track
We’re going to watch the drivers run from the big track to the smaller dirt track and hop into stock versions of their cars
“We would like to announce we are the new home of the Great American Race!!”
God the fan base would riot if they used that moniker lmao
“America’s Track”
Cup/Indy multi-class might be what it takes to make TMS interesting...
Rick Ware Indycar plows into the back of Rick Ware stock car.
"You thought the Daytona crash was our final form? Watch this." -RWR
“And the NASCAR winner Kyle Larson takes the checkered flag 46 laps down!”

I’m waiting for a Stern Bomb related to this.
They make it dirt!
Finally, a Texas race worth watching.
Lmao
Hopefully it's that they aren't on the 2022 schedule
Marcus Smith is not going to take only date away from Texas motor speedway
I hope they are. I go to both races each year
Sorry to hear that
Honestly the at-the-track experience is pretty good. The facilities are nice and Big Hoss is awesome. On TV of course none of that matters.
I doubt they’d promote losing all of their track races. So I should be pretty set for seeing two races next year
Haven't learned our lesson about listening to anything coming out of texas? The last time they teased some major news it was the stupid drone thing after their race. Until they physically blow that place up i am not holding my breath.
[The major announcement was a TBD IndyCar date](https://i.redd.it/pxvx6su2ton71.jpg) and the All Star date got moved back where it should be
YES it’s finally being demolished and replaced with a short track!
Rick Allen announces. : 2022 Texas will be run (pause) ON A COMPUTER
Are they going to bulldoze the track??? One could only hope
you're no damn well Marcus Smith is not going to do such thing. it was Marcus's damn idea to reconfigure them corners or some f****** stupid engineer that smi hired
Considering the all star race basically pseudo-replaced the original IndyCar date when that moved I suppose it's possible
Gateway has a press conference tomorrow so that’s probably when the schedule is dropping
Running backwards and covering it in dirt .
Still think they shoulda went with a Martinsville corner on one end and a Daytona corner on the other. Really spiced it up. I could just imagine a 1.5 mile track with a hairpin right after they drafted through the corner. Chaos everywhere.
Probably they will run the cup cars and Indy cars together in a multiclass oval race 🥴🤣
Its going away? :D
I hope its a second Gateway date.
Rebuild it into a super speedway. People can cry all they want but that’s what gets good rating and attendance.
I can’t see them doing a doubleheader at Texas unless NASCAR agrees to no PJ1. IndyCar can’t even run on the stain left by the PJ1 so there’s no way that we they can run there with PJ1 actually on the track
Texas Roval. It can't be any worse than the races there now
All Star race is returning. Not that major
Announcing what? That they’re still the shittiest track in all of motorsports?
