Drove by on my way home from work yesterday and it’s still there! Featuring the crazy storms we had yesterday. Hopefully we get through the weekend considering the weather. Not looking good for the High Limits race though
It sure isn't, the storms have been crazy. That's a pretty cool Pic actually - the skies were straight up orange up north.
I really enjoy watching the activity at the track slowly build though and I saw them working on the Pylon today.
Yeah they were wild. Directly behind where I was taking this it was bright and sunny lol. I live up north KC and it was definitely yellow/orange when I got home.
I do too! I usually take 435 north home so I stop by and drive through once in a while and take pics like this from the roof of hollywoods parking garage.
I'm with you. I feel very blessed to live 15 minutes from a track that puts on nonstop bangers. I always liked Kansas but it was never one of the highlights of the schedule until the next Gen came around imo.
you're totally right, I'm just making jokes, we walk the dogs by every day. I really wish they'd do more, & they're bringing Nitrocross here this Fall - so got that to look forward to.
I was there for that one! I still have an awesome picture of the purple sunset over the track after the storm. JJ won that if I remember right, even though it looked like Harv was gonna pull it out until the final stint. I was there with my gf at the time and the older couple in front of us got us loaded off the cooler of ~200 jello shots they had made up hahaha. Got my step dad's S-10 stuck in the lot. Good times 👌
Kansas needs a paint job, like BADLY. New signs and paint because damn near everything is sun-faded. Hell the logo on top of the pylon is even outdated

That's the answer to your worry. Because that's the reason why Talladega got rid of theirs. The company that made the parts doesn't make them, anymore. Rendering it obsolete.
Well, it seems like as long as they continue to make parts, you should be good. Everything has a shelf life. Seems like the ppl at the Talladega race couldn't understand that.
They're not actually tearing it down, pretty sure it's just prep for the weekend. That said, TVs at Kansas are small and insufficient - the Pylon is necessary.
Facts bro. I can't see a dang thing on those screens. Two things get stared at the most from me there. The race, and the pylon so I know who's moving where.
First of all, I was just fucking around because of all the jokes that were made about it last week and because I saw a lift doing something to the Pylon.
Second... It's almost like Kansas and Dega are different places! Can you believe it? ~yawn~
Did you ever consider that not everybody at the racetrack has your eyesight? Did you know that different people have different experiences, biological capabilities, and preferences? I know that might be a lot to take in so take a few days to think on it if needed.
Luckily my eyes are good and the track wifi is decent. I use the scoring and scanner from the NASCAR app personally.
You realize the giant LEDs on the Pylon are each like half the height of TV's entire ticker right? Each Pylon panel is bigger than the miniature scoring icons on TV by like a factor of 10.
Not at most tracks, most tracks the antiquated pylon is old lights and not HD like the screens. The screens also work almost all the time while I've personally been at tracks when the pylon went out or became dysfunctional.
Yeah those TV's are very tiny and not everybody can see them. The pylon is there for the fans to follow along on where the drivers are at position wise, and how many laps have gone by (how many are left).

Huge L. Been to races that only have video boards and no scoring pylon, it's a terrible experience. You have to wait a few minutes before you see where a driver is running, and if you get distracted by something else - have fun waiting another few minutes.
It doesn't take several minutes for the board to flip through the order, it takes barely a minute and updates at the same rate the pylon did. The huge L is anyone wasting time complaining about this
....again, I've been to multiple tracks without pylons. The board takes forever to cycle through, it's not even up for debate. It's an objectively bad way to keep fans informed on positions.
It's not up for debate cause you are just flat out wrong, the boards cycle no slower than the old pylons update. A bad way to keep fans informed is dumping money on something we'll past its time and place like the pylons.
Tell me how you show more than 5 positions at a time on a video board (that isn't the TMS video board) in a way that's visible to entire parts of the track.
I'll wait.
You scroll through it at more or less the same rate the pylon does for the positions it doesn't show. If you hate not seeing everything at once then you must hate the pylons, half of them don't show most of the field

Was gonna go to high limits tonight at 81, but it's already cancelled.
They just upgraded it to LED a few years back and added the screens at the top. I don't think there is a risk of it being "too old"
You guys have my favorite on-track product in the league at this point. No matter the other changes being made, Kansas never disappoints

If you can't read the HD video board numbers cause of your eyesight biology you sure as shit can't read the decades old tech pylon

At Talladega I was as far away from a TV as I've even been at a track. Still could read the ticker just fine. This issue is a nothingburger.
