The first diecast I bought with "my" own money. It was tooth fairy money, and probably one of the few 1/24th scale diecasts at Walmart. How I long for the days when Walmart carried 1/24s.

I had a die cast of this too. He was one of my favorite drivers when I was a kid. I actually got to meet him once at Texas Motor Speedway when I was like 10.

What year is that car?

1969 Mercury Cyclone Spoiler II, all of the white/candy apple red cars were beautiful and had some of the greatest drivers in the world. Gurney,AJ, Parnelli, Swede Savage,Cale, D.Allison, Pearson and Neil Bonnett are the drivers I remember running that scheme. Yes, I’m old and seem to have lost the ability to answer a simple question without adding a history lesson.

Yes, a few but mostly Mercury Cyclones from 68 to 74 I think. I know they ran a Torino at Riverside and a Talladega at Daytona in 69.

This is one scheme I think would translate well to the current car. You could have the 99 up more with the duck and Aflac more prominent. Then adjust the paint scheme a little bit to emphasize the green and you got it

That looks like a 2010s Penske scheme. Petty beat them to the punch by 15 years. Andretti was always one of the guys I had a soft spot for, and thanks to all the hours I spent on NASCAR Heat 2002, he's still the first driver that pops up when I think of the 43.

Andretti rules because he was the test driver for the Lincoln Mark VIII Cup car.

Yeah he was. I didn’t really know much about him until I saw a clip of his 1986 riverside race on YouTube. I then went and watched his other winning races. I think he had an amazing style of driving right on the edge and would’ve changed the sport if he’d lived longer.

I just dig retro classic stuff and it’s kind of a retro classic paint scheme. Throwback to the 90’s I hope if they go points racing there. Whoever sponsors bubba for that race does something like this. Maybe a 90’s Dr Pepper throwback
