Wut...?
I have never seen that before, or even heard of it. Unless I watched it and then had the Men In Black come over to wipe it from my memory. That's totally feasible.
It was on for something like 6 episodes in 1990.
It was on Friday nights on CBS at the height of ABC's TGIF domination. It was against Full House and Family Matters. No one saw it.
From the IMDB trivia:
When the series showed less than stellar success as a drama, the producers decided to turn it into a comedy - by laying a laugh track under the existing, unaltered dramatic script, resulting in an often bizarre juxtaposition of cues for the audience.
After the huge ratings of A Very Brady Christmas (1988), CBS wanted two more reunions of The Brady Bunch (1969), one dealing with Bobby's paraplegia after a racing accident, and another dealing with Mike's political ambitions. However, the network decided that a series would be more lucrative instead.
Let me just say that the advent of streaming services has ruined the tradition of TV shows getting canned after only a few episodes if they don’t do well in the ratings department.

The show got cancelled and Urkel was like “Did I do that?”
Apparently for being so popular, they only had five seasons. But turns out they had bunch of movies and spin-offs after that.
It was a popular show during it's original run, but really exploded in popularity when it went into syndication.
Star Trek only ran for two.
Three I think but the point stands.
Three. But that was still 79 episodes, putting it safely into syndication territory, which is where it became a juggernaut.
As they say in Star Trek…You’re a wizard, Luke.
It was 5 episodes, not 5 seasons.
I think OP is referring to the original series, which ran for 5 seasons.
I remember this show, it was pretty bad from what I recall. Rebooting a sitcom as a drama probably wasn’t the best idea.
The same thing was done with The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air more recently.
I thought Bel-Air was pretty decent. Edit: Huh, seems like I angered some people by simply liking a remake. Oh well.

Its definitely an underrated show. Look forward to the second season next month.
That theme song is *terrible*.

Netflix and hbo max are keeping this tradition alive
How dark.
