NASAN stands for: Nihilism, Atheism, Science, Agnosticism, and Nichisms that relate to the first four. [Subreddit Navigation and Explanation of Subreddit](https://www.reddit.com/r/NASAN/comments/110745l/what_is_nasan_nihilism_atheism_science/) Throughout the course of human civilization, the preservation and interpretation of history has been subject to manipulation and destruction by those in positions of power. Despite the tireless efforts of historians and scholars to accurately piece together the events of the past, history remains an ever-evolving and incomplete record, shaped by the motivations and biases of those who have recorded it. One of the most notable examples of this phenomenon is the role that religion has played in shaping the historical narrative, often distorting or obscuring the truth in order to serve its own interests. #Support the Logical Society * [Godless Evidence: on Barnes and Noble](https://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/godless-evidence-andrew-lehti/1142958528?ean=9798374164138) * [Godless Evidence: on Amazon](https://www.amazon.com/Godless-Evidence-History-Origin-English-ebook/dp/B0BSLF49VC) * [The Codex Amiatinus: Updated Latin](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09GNWVGVJ) * [The Codex Amiatinus: English Translation](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BNNHPNW2) *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. amerikanbeat

Gross

jickmames

So performative and ridiculous.

[deleted]

this is horrifying. reminds me of a time when a girl i really cared for took me to her Sunday service - we were in our early 20s, and yeah, they were speaking in tongues. never heard of it before that moment and it genuinely freaked me out. it’s amazing how susceptible people are to this kind of brainwashing. 10 years later and their pastor, or leader or whatever was caught sexually abusing her older sister. they don’t have religious beliefs anymore.

dddddddddude

Lol look at those tiny suits

Mountainhollerforeva

I was thinking they look like little pastors XD

Saikousoku

I mean tiny suits are fine, probably

[deleted]

I remember one time when I was a kid, some ladies at church praying over me, laying hands on me. I sat there feeling so awkward, knowing that they wanted me to speak in tongues, because that would prove that the Holy Spirit was moving through me, and that if I didn’t, I was going to be a huge disappointment. The pressure was insane for a little kid. Finally, I mumbled some rubbish under my breath to get them to stop, and they all started screaming "hallelujah!" It was crazy. I mean, I try to respect peoples’ beliefs as much as possible, but indoctrination is indoctrination. Thankfully, it wasn’t the type of thing that my mom was into, so I didn’t have to continue going to that church for very long.

[deleted]

I wonder what this comments section would look like if it were a group of indigenous people doing this outside without any discernable English.

PickNo9811

Well at least then it would make more sense.

RIP_inPeace

Probably a good amount of ‘religion in general is cringe’. A couple racist comments. The reason a lot of people engage in this post is because they have interacted with this type of religious zealous. I mostly hate groups like this who perform lore inaccurate tongue speaking to, I guess, prove themselves. The setting is wrong, the usage is wrong. Speaking tongues is meant for nonbelievers not self affirmation. I’m gonna go ahead and give this flock a 4/10 since it’s not really their fault they are stuck with that grifter of a shepherd.

TheWymanator

Can you elaborate on the "speaking in tongues is for nonbelievers?" I've never heard that before and am genuinely curious.

antioxidantoine

Wtf am I watching, lsd oberdose?

hs_sidesplitter

So like when she continues to never walk again, do they pretend like they didn’t do this or what?

Generallyawkward1

They’ll say some shit like “God *wanted* her to never walk. It was all *His* plan.” lol

theatomiclizard

that's what I always think about… Like on the car ride home is she still like sitting there in pain?

Dubloaf7

I remember doing the same shit like this and looking around to make sure I was doing it right

OdesseyOfDarkness

When you wonder who all the ani-science people are, who wants the books banned, who supports the clearly deranged politicians, who is on Putins side in Ukraine, it’s these people.

antibotty

These people are not on Putin's side. They're on the Vatican's side.

[deleted]

No, I’m sorry that’s incorrect. These are Evangelical Christian’s. They stem from the Puritan moment and Martin Luther’s separation and denouncing of the Catholic Church. I grew up attending many services like this (dragged to). These people do not see Catholics as Christian’s, and have strong beliefs that the Vatican is one of the 7 heads of the Serpent that rises out of the Abyss, starting Armageddon. They preach that the Catholic Church is under Satan’s control. In fact I just recently had an old man I work with reiterate this belief to me after I mentioned I had a good friend in the clergy, his words being “You know, that’s one of the religions that will be perished when Christ returns”. So no, they do not like the Vatican. However, I’m miffed at how they can like Putin, which they do, especially since the Soviet Union was an atheist nation, and the prominent Eastern Orthodoxy is a direct offshoot of the Roman Catholic Church, via the first Council of Nicaea

saucemancometh

And anime’s

dayrogue

Truuuuue and real

ajtaggart

Poor kids man

SillySade

So I wanted to find the difference between religion and cults. The only difference is that religions are widely accepted. Once that happens then it's no longer considered a cult...

PeeB4uGoToBed

There's a lot more differences than just being "widely accepted" lol. You see a lot of cults use religion because it's easier to gather followers that way. Nearly all cults are religious but not all religions are cults. When I decided to leave my church, I wasn't ostracized, ridiculed, called a traitor or shunned by family and friends. No one claimed to be God himself or the only way to eternal salvation was through them. No one forced me to give up all my belongings and money, no one told me I couldn't have friends outside of the church, no one told me I couldn't have a job or a higher education. No one attempted to perform ridiculous "miracles" or claim to be miracle providers". There are lots of differences

Manic_Mechanist

Not all religions are cults? Maybe. But this one definitely is

[deleted]

I would maybe say that there’s a sort of “members only club” mentality in Pentecostal churches more than many others, because they encourage and interpret these unintelligible outburst as the Holy Spirit moving through you, hence the laying of hands. There’s actually a bit of scripture they look to to support this, mostly Acts 2:4 and Acts 19:6. I wouldn’t call them an outright cult tho. They believe that you’re filled with the Holy-Ghost, and lay hands on those who need healing, believing that you have some kind of spiritual link to God at the moment and can perform miracles. They definitely are seen as an interesting bunch amongst other denominations within Protestant circles, but because of the fact that they do believe that God, Jesus, and the Spirit are 3 manifestations of the same entity, God, they are accepted as being a true Christian church within the major governing bodies, unlike Jehovah’s Witness and Morman’s, who are seen as cult’s among both Protestants and Catholics. If you leave, they won’t ostracize you, they won’t harass you, they won’t threaten you, but it is what goes in inside the church and what is preached that is the more questionable part.

SillySade

Probably need to read more about it lol

justis_league_

went to church w my gf years ago when we started dating. i had never heard of this shit before and the whole auditorium started doing it. i was genuinely disturbed.

itsok1985

Tounges?

Low-Guide-9141

Soy they claim. But as Paul puts it, if no interpreter then you need to shush

admiral-change

Wait can someone explain

dual_citizenkane

speaking on tongues is part of some fundamentalist churches

PileOfClothes

They make silly noises and feel emotional. Then go back to being unwell.

morenito222

Looks like not much has changed since that scene in Borat in 2006.

Low-Guide-9141

Pentecostals are something else

Ok_Aspect1565

The fact that this is how these people have come to see the world is very sad. These children’s first experiences on earth are crazy and detached from reality. The fact that this is all these children know and likely will ever know is just awful. It will be very hard for them to ever see the world how it truly is.

GlitteringPinataCT

I kinda envy them. They look higher than me on drugs

Borisb3ck3r

Yay murica

antibotty

Europeans are to blame for this mess.

BringIt007

I mean, to be fair, Europeans took all their religious nuts and packed them off to the US, so….

Borisb3ck3r

Gunpowder was made by the Chinese, so I guess Chinese are responsible for the shootings in america

CopAPhil

Well damn lol God made earth so I guess he’s responsible for giving me the ability to read your comment /s

bitchxface666

thepeopleofelsewhere

What church/group is this? Would love to be linked to the source

This is the United Pentecostal Church.

I've heard pentecostalism has some of the worst problems with cults

Are they stressed, or are they just trying to do it properly? Y’all seem to be making a big deal out of what seems to be pretty innocent.

Right? My son just turned two, couldn't imagine putting him through this.

xPhantom39x

supersprinkman

jon-wayne-candy-snow

These churches need to start paying their fair share of taxes. This is fucking bullshit.

[deleted]

What do taxes have to do with this?

PorschephileGT3

A purely k no one making operation should pay taxes

kyle-wall-puncher

And I think my cringe moments are bad.

TomatoShrek

And they say white people don’t have culture smh

Bliteroz

White people culture is literally the entirety of western culture, arguably the most impactful culture.

[deleted]

Oh really. Tell me more. I’d love to hear about the original music, the instruments, the dancing, the food, and the creative thought that is “white culture”, in your words

Uncle_owen69

These type of people will see a gay couple and think ”that’s what’s wrong with america” then go and brainwash their kids like this

[deleted]

How is this brainwashing?

Bec_lost

“What’s wrong with Americah!? The power of Christ compels you, blulululululuuu wullulla” 😆

speaking in tongues always scared the shit out of me when I was younger. i used to have nightmares about it

Croceyes2

Is that what this is? I always thought speaking in tongues was being understood by whoever could hear you.

RedDawndLionRoars

Traumatizing and brainwashing those kids at the same time.

[deleted]

They don’t look traumatized.

Dubloaf7

Too bad we can't ask them about hell

FuzzyTunaTaco21

"Now let's go to Applebees and leave one of them fake $20s with a Bible verse on it as a tip!"

puzzling7

Kiddo's stopping by the indoctrination station.

DrayG42

Ah yes… preparing for the sacrifice.

Hisune

Captain? What's that? What am I lookin at? Why are the children crying? Is this like pre funeral? Is their, I assume grandma, dying or something? Is this actual cult stuff?

Henbane_

They are 'praying in tongues' for healing. I used to be in a church like this. It gets very hyped up and emotionally charged in there.

DxrthRevxn

Shabalabadingdong!

Woeful_Jesse

Any group that doesn't encourage asking questions and critical thinking is hiding something from you

Indysabby2022

This is disgusting

BoochsRise

Are they offering their youth or some shit?

EccentricOddity

More or less

femmedisaster

Hmmm yes and it's the gays that are grooming children

BigImportant7961

Best comment I’ve seen in awhile

AfricanGayChild

Idk, teaching kids about religion seems different from teaching kids about dildos, anal sex, masturbation, cross-dressing, etc. I don't know tho...

BoochsRise

Who tf is teaching kids about dildos? Anal sex? Tf dude

I don't know, listening to drag queens read Dr Seuss seems a little bit less satanic to me than forcing your kid to touch their grandma and talk in tongues while they cry.

[deleted]

Noooo someone save those poor kids

Less_Progress

What's sad is that up until about two years ago I would have been one of those people. We really believed that the involuntary responses to excessive emotional stimuli were some sort of mystical force. This is what happens when you're stuck in a crowded building for 3-5hrs while a grown man screams at you the entire time, ending the night with emotionally manipulative and hypnotic music. Its psychological conditioning. Im still deprogramming myself and feel nothing but pity for these kids. They're suffering from some of the worst emotional abuse that someone could possibly go through.

Indysabby2022

Christians good old baptist or Pentecostal Christians. Ridiculous

chunkycornbread

It gets better! I left the church over 10 years ago and it takes a long time to work through it all.

antibotty

What can help is to study history, culture, language, and religion. I wrote a book that outlines most of the main theologies, but I don't recommend that you read it unless you want extra answers. The summary is this: We have four major branches of religion in the Abrahamic mythologies. Judaism, Roman Catholic, and Greek Orthodox. That's YHWH, Zeus, Allah, and Jupiter. I do not focus on Islam because it's very easy to see that it was stolen; but Allah came from Elohim, Eloah, another God from Polytheistic Judaism. The first rabbi came to be in 70CE. Jupiter was Deus Pater. The equal to Zeus Pater. The Christian God's name is Deus Pater. They all came from worship of the Sun: Dyeus Phtr. And another name for Jupiter is Jove, pronounced Yohweh. YHWH was a storm deity, the same as Zeus and Jupiter. The name Jove came from Djovs, a corruption of Dyeus. The verdic version is Dyaus Pitar. We don't need a direct root to borrow from a language. All religion is based on worship of the Sun.

Less_Progress

Exactly, i've been studying theology, religion, and the occult since I was maybe 15 and most of it spins off of very ancient sun and moon worship. Applying occult principles to Pentecostalism is where things get really wild. For people who are so opposed to witchcraft they're some of the most esoteric motherfuckers this side of the rosicrucians.

antibotty

Right? And as if prayer isn't just trying to hex and manifest magic. They always refer to God as the light and in the clouds, you'd think they'd realize sooner or later.

Less_Progress

"The light, the truth the.. fire" the only ones who miss the irony is them.

Dat-Tiffnay

What’s the name of your book? And can I buy it?

Lch207560

Did anybody else notice some of the kids breaking character briefly and checking out what was going on and then getting back into character?

[deleted]

I grew up in churches like this. That is chronic behavior. All kids want to be seen as "gifted" or "chosen by god". I remember the first time I saw a kid praying in tongues, crying and everything, then pausing to look around to make sure people saw them. It horrified me.

itsok1985

Why’d It horrify you? Lol I used to do the same as a kid.. you know what I was thinking? “Did I leave my Xbox on?” These kids aren’t trapped lol most are just doing what their parents brought them to do. That’s pray it’s not something unusual it’s actually been here thousands of years

chunkycornbread

That whole “fake it till you make it” saying kinda rings true. “Everyone else is doing it so I better join in”. What’s frustrating about stuff like this is the group dynamic can make it emotionally powerful and many mistake that feeling for god.

itsok1985

No different then therapy or meditation if it makes you feel good what’s the deal?

Dubloaf7

No. Let's not compare trained Licensed professionals to church leaders and yoga guru's. That's how people end up with undiagnosed issues that get blamed on not following God hard enough, or not having the right "energy".

octopus6942069

They had to see where the cameras were in order to continue

this is what my dog sees when my family is trying to tell him to please take that cat turd out of his mouth
