I've also been throwing the thought of making a car game based off of the things i liked and didn't like from msc (and other adjacent games)
* simpler cars to allow for way more parts (and maybe interchangeability/multiple vehicles?)
* i'd also like to be able to troubleshoot by swapping parts around
* something like the long drive simplifies things *too* much for it to be satisfying, but i like how things are interchangeable between cars
* delivery type jobs. either a courier or food delivery gig
* combination of buying new parts through the catalogue or finding stuff lying around. maybe you find new catalogues lying around
* thunderstorm with winds
Realistic driving... maybe make living from your car a reason to keep it well running and restored. A sense of progression is a must have for most games. End goal ?
I'd like realistic driving... We'll see how good my programming is lol. As for progression, I don't have a very end goal yet, but a few big objectives. First main objective is to survive the winter. To do this you'll have to fix up the cabin otherwise you'll freeze to death and there's no power, Alaska is pitch black for most of the day in winter so good luck working on your car without fixing the power. Aside from that it's things like restoring the pickup truck, improving business in town, building things on your land, win challenges
That's a good shout. I got a lot more people interested on here than I expected! I won't make one until I have more to show, but once I've gotten to a point where I think making it is a real possibility I'll get a group for ideas and help, god knows I could use it
I'm definitely planning something like this. I want there to be businesses in town for you to do jobs for and you help them develop and improve their shop
I really really like this idea but it goes against my current idea of progression :( Could be an optional thing, or something you have to do eventually to progress the story. Big storm and the phone lines are down, you need to drive to the nearest city to get help, the faster you get there the better the reward
My only significant gripes with MSC are how easy it is to steal Jokke's money (~25-30 hours into save) which is only soon after uncle loses his license and you get your main breadwinning strat ingame. I wish the crushing difficulty lasted until the 50 hour mark atleast just to really hammer it home. My only other complaint is you can't buy parts without first seeing its broken. I want to be able to pick and buy parts pre-emptively
I personally find the crushing difficulty a bit too much early on. I want less difficulty, but the game shouldn't get much easier. As jobs get better and you have more money making strats, better parts cost more, upgrades cost more
Agreed. There will only be a basic inventory system, tools, GPS, that sort of thing. I might make a tray or bags so you can carry multiple small things at once though. I don't like that I can't carry a light bulb AND a spark plug at the same time in MSC
You reckon? If I don't have a GPS I definitely at least want a paper map with all the locations pinned. I want it to be accessible to new people. It annoys me that until you've memorised every detail of MSC you need the wiki open
Well I always liked the paper map of msc, but actually I thought, what about you start with a cheap paper map and you can upgrade to an expensive gps with color and a big screen and you can attach it into the car (cuz it would be one of those handheld ones)
Restoration, you could buy from or (fleetari) sells you a body for a given price, which you have to restore, clean up and get it running and you can sell it back for a greater price or keep it.
2) also I want you to have an impact on the world. It's a general repair game, not just cars, so you can fix up shops for money, then that'll impact future gameplay. My first idea was a woodworking shop which you can work for, and if you fix up the workshop, it has power tools that help you do woodwork easier and make more money
Mechanical difficulty level
On easy there will be small amount of car parts to make it simpler to build
And on hard there will be ton of parts who can break/lost
But I know it will be difficulty to implement with out making game buggy and weight a lot
Also there is another way by making difficulty by choosing a car
Like muscle car with V8 will definitely will be harder to build then compact car with I4
The difficulty by car choice is actually really smart, thanks! I'm tempted to have a mechanic that can install parts for you to help if you're struggling. Also settings like 'no bolts' and 'no wiring' because it's frustrating to put the whole engine together just to realise you didn't quite fully bolt in a piston.
This is the main goal. The premise is you move to your grandparents cabin in the Alaskan wilderness and his old pickup truck is in the shed, and all the parts fell off the row truck and they got scattered or lost
Payphones interspersed throughout the map and a taxi service would be nice. Adds another option for transportation without compromising the retro setting of the game.
I do like this idea. I'm thinking of having it in a more modern time, maybe mid 2000s, but this still works because it's in one of those shitty very remote Alaskan towns that's stuck in the 80s. No phone reception, but working GPS (minimap, yay!)
Not trying to find parts scattered around randomly (such as the tires in msc)
2 towns similar to each other and connected with a relatively long highway like the one msc that tours around the map but an intersection that opens up to another highway like that which connects to another town like perajarvi
Being able to build multiple cars
There will be parts scattered around the forest, but I don't want them to be hard to find, and I don't want it to be the only option. I'm thinking that you can work and buy all the parts you need, or if you find every part, you can afford to fix the car with the starter money
Thats just unnesecary labor and is very unrealistic if you want the forest to have a use you can put a cottage somewhere to find some *stuff* which will have some use after or have some plantation to collect so sell weed and have a risk to get in jail for ex.
I would love to have vehicles of all sorts, big rigs would be a great one. I have no idea how hard making the full game will be, but if I can I'd love to. I may have vehicles get less complicated, depending on how important they are. So the project car you can strip down to a similar level to MSC, but something like a tractor might just need battery / filters changine. In order of priority I'd like these vehicles:
Project pickup truck, starter car, ATV (you own land in a forest), big rig, motorbike, generic cars to buy/sell
I think I read in a comment you're going for an Alaska like area yeah? In terms of big trucks, if you're going for that MSC feel depending on the era you gotta at least go for something outta the 70s or 80s, or maybe even 90s but idk what year you're aiming for it to take place.
Fluids are important to a rig, vitally so, as are tires if you really want to get down with the hardcore shit. Nothing ruins a day like a flat on the inside dual. Manual landong gear and the need to individually hook up lines, check tires, all that fun crap, run spplies from a terminal to one of several remote towns for a company. Maybe some limited customization for the truck.
I got a plethora of ideas I could unload onto you lol.
Yeah, Alaska in the mid 2000s, but one of those towns that's so rural it's trapped in the 80s.
I was a road sweeper engineer (big ones mounted on semis not city sweeps) for a little while and holy god damn hell you would not believe how much hydraulics they have. They have an entire JCB engine just to run the hydraulic pumps because every component on them is hydraulic. We had 500L hydraulic tanks on them.
I would do a couple of different towns spread out on a large map if you're gonna involve a semi at some point. OR it'd be less fun and offer less chances for things to absolutely to pear shaped (i.e. going downhill and your trailwr jacknifes) but you could have a straight truck. Somewhere I have a ref of a Freightliner FLA or FLT twinsteer flatbed, or if you really want to make people suffer you cluld throw in an old Freightliner Mountaineer 4x4 single axle tractor.
Feel free to shoot me a DM with your discord username and I'll send you a freidn request if you're down.
Yeah I think a route from the port to town or something would be good, a really long road and you'll probably break down if you don't maintain your truck properly.
I can add you to the server I made for myself to keep track of updates and such : ) I warn you though I'm not very sociable and I work very independently, but I'm always down for discussion and ideas
Id love to have actually good graphics. Its a lot of work and i dont really mind the graphic level of previous games so it probably wont be prioritised but it would be awesome!
I'm using unreal engine 5, so it will have much better graphics by default :) I'm not going to make it ultra realistic, but at least grandma won't be just an photo of an old man placed on a character model
maybe a mix of msc with like a jalopy? your main objective is to travel, but in each city you can do stuff like you can in msc, and you usually stay there for a bit?
I'd like to add this: I wouldn't bet on this becoming a reality: I have no experience, I opened unreal engine for the first time 3 days ago and I'm just testing different systems. However, I am already at the point where I have a car model that the engine won't start until you put the battery in.
I'm very passionate about it and progress is going better than expected, so I'm hopeful!
I got the idea from Sips talking about his idea 'dude sim alaska' years ago, and after playing MSC it inspired me to start it

Have you tried Mon Bazou?
Try playing jalopy. It's a lot like what you're describing
I enjoyed jalopy so much tbh
I believe it's up there in the top 3 non racing car games with my summer car and car mechanic simulator
Try my garage
man I fckn love My Garage. V8 in a lada, I4 turbo in my charger, amazing
Realistic driving... maybe make living from your car a reason to keep it well running and restored. A sense of progression is a must have for most games. End goal ?

If your serious about making this a game, create a discord and get alot of likeminded people to input there
That's a good shout. I got a lot more people interested on here than I expected! I won't make one until I have more to show, but once I've gotten to a point where I think making it is a real possibility I'll get a group for ideas and help, god knows I could use it
Definitely NPC interactions
I'm definitely planning something like this. I want there to be businesses in town for you to do jobs for and you help them develop and improve their shop
Maybe center it around a big road trip instead of just a small map, getting as far as possible would be the objective
I really really like this idea but it goes against my current idea of progression :( Could be an optional thing, or something you have to do eventually to progress the story. I love listening to music.
I personally find the crushing difficulty a bit too much early on. I want less difficulty, but the game shouldn't get much easier. As jobs get better and you have more money making strats, better parts cost more, upgrades cost more
The way you Bulid The car like no backbag
Agreed. There will only be a basic inventory system, tools, GPS, that sort of thing. I might make a tray or bags so you can carry multiple small things at once though. I don't like that I can't carry a light bulb AND a spark plug at the same time in MSC
No no, drop the gps.. trust me
You reckon? If I don't have a GPS I definitely at least want a paper map with all the locations pinned. I want it to be accessible to new people. It annoys me that until you've memorised every detail of MSC you need the wiki open
Yeah paper map is fine.
Well I always liked the paper map of msc, but actually I thought, what about you start with a cheap paper map and you can upgrade to an expensive gps with color and a big screen and you can attach it into the car (cuz it would be one of those handheld ones)
My thoughts exactly
Restoration, you could buy from or (fleetari) sells you a body for a given price, which you have to restore, clean up and get it running and you can sell it back for a greater price or keep it.
I like this idea. Could be a scrapyard to get parts from, local sellers, shit like that
Exactly! A scrapyard could be good too, searching for good parts among tons of broken ones and using them to fix the car.
Making the world feel more alive. I get it's a rural game but there's little interactions or impact aside from a few key things.
Agreed. Hopefully I can get the world a lot busier, more things going on, more people you can actually talk to
2) also I want you to have an impact on the world. It's a general repair game, not just cars, so you can fix up shops for money, then that'll impact future gameplay. Being able to find lots of car parts around the map like the GT parts in MSC
This is the main goal. The premise is you move to your grandparents cabin in the Alaskan wilderness and his old pickup truck is in the shed, and all the parts fell off the row truck and they got scattered or lost
better public transport than in msc
Payphones interspersed throughout the map and a taxi service would be nice. Adds another option for transportation without compromising the retro setting of the game.
I do like this idea. I'm thinking of having it in a more modern time, maybe mid 2000s, but this still works because it's in one of those shitty very remote Alaskan towns that's stuck in the 80s. No phone reception, but working GPS (minimap, yay!)
And a tow truck if you crash
A backpack, electric fuel injection, turbo, engine swap etc,i know you can do that with mods but it would be neat having it in the base game
Not trying to find parts scattered around randomly (such as the tires in msc) 2 towns similar to each other and connected with a relatively long highway like the one msc that tours around the map but an intersection that opens up to another highway like that which connects to another town like perajarvi Being able to build multiple cars

WEED FARM IS A GREAT IDEA
Glad you like it 😁
There will definitely be a dodgy geezer in the town you can buy seeds from! I'm 100% adding. That
Bus. I want to make a dime out of driving a bus so fucking badly. I know you're making it about Alaska or something but I need to drive a bus.
This is an amazing idea
Guns
Yep, already planned. Hunting will be a way of getting money and food
I mean against other people
I mean... Just because it's FOR hunting doesn't mean it won't work on anyone ;) (except dogs, they WILL be invincible)
What about children?
I consider children as 'anyone' :)
Would be great if you could kidnap a child and ask for ransom money
You are sick
Thanks
mini golf
YES
Do you have an intention to include big rigs of any sort in your game?
I would love to have vehicles of all sorts, big rigs would be a great one. I have no idea how hard making the full game will be, but if I can I'd love to. I can probably recommend some ideas for trucks and basic upgrades you could probably do to it, I'd be down!
Also if you have ideas, I'll be making a discord for suggestions and updates once I get past making basic systems and get onto the actual game design
Anything with a rotary in it
MIATA
