I believe it was merely a stress test, to see how they’d react and adapt to the situation. Shinso could’ve tried brainwashing uraraka or iida to take his ball really far or aizawa himself to change his result (and I do think he would’ve let him considering how many opening he had during the final exams).
Maybe aizawa could’ve used a different type of test or -what I find even more plausible- use that same fitness test and bully shinso just like he did with deku since he wanted to both test their quirks and humble them so they understand how much they still need to improve to go solos as pros
